Background and aims: We aim to analyze the difference in quantitative features between culprit and non-culprit intracranial plaque without substantial stenosis using three-dimensional high-resolution vessel wall MRI (3D hr-vw-MRI). Methods: The patients with cerebral ischemic symptoms of the unilateral anterior circulation were recruited who had non-stenotic intracranial atherosclerosis (<50%) confirmed by computed tomographic angiographic (CTA) or magnetic resonance angiography (MRA). All patients underwent 3D hr-vw MRI within 1 month after symptom onset. 3D hr-vw-MRI characteristics, including wall thickness, plaque burden, enhancement ratio, plaque volume and intraplaque hemorrhage, and histogram features were analyzed based on T2-, precontrast T1-, and post-contrast T1-weighted images. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to identify key determinates differentiating culprit and non-culprit plaques and to calculate the odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: A total of 150 plaques were identified, of which 133 plaques (97 culprit and 36 non-culprit) were in the middle cerebral artery, three plaques (all culprit) were in the anterior cerebral artery (ACA) and 14 (11 culprit and three non-culprit) were in the internal carotid artery (ICA). Of all the quantitative parameters analyzed, plaque volume, maximum wall thickness, minimum wall thickness, plaque burden, enhancement ratio, coefficient of variation of the most stenotic site, enhancement ratio of whole culprit plaque in culprit plaques were significantly higher than those in non-culprit plaques. Multivariate logistic regression analysis found that plaque volume [OR, 1.527 (95% CI, 1.231-1.894); P < 0.001] and enhancement ratio of whole plaque [OR, 1.095 (95% CI, 1.021-1.175); P = 0.011] were significantly associated with culprit plaque. The combination of the two features obtained a better diagnostic efficacy for culprit plaque with sensitivity and specificity (0.910 and 0.897, respectively) than each of the two parameters alone. Conclusion: 3D hr-vw MRI features of intracranial atherosclerotic plaques provided potential values over prediction of ischemic stroke patients with non-stenotic arteries. The plaque volume and enhancement ratio of whole plaque of stenosis site were found to be effective predictive parameters.

BACKGROUND: Probiotics have been deemed multipotent and unprecedentedly applied in the health field recently. However, there are challenges in promoting credible and reliable resources while avoiding misinformation regarding probiotics for the public. METHODS: This study analysed 400 eligible probiotic-related videos selected from YouTube, and the three most popular video-sharing platforms (Bilibili, Weibo and TikTok) in China. Video retrieval was performed on September 5th, 2022. GQS and tailored DISCERN tool assess each video's quality, usage, and reliability. A comparative analysis of videos from different sources was carried out. RESULTS: The identity distribution of probiotic video-producers was predominantly experts (n = 202, 50.50%), followed by amateurs (n = 161, 40.25%) and health-related institutions (n = 37, 9.25%). The videos' content category mainly discussed the function of probiotics (n = 120, 30%), the way to choose suitable products (n = 81, 20.25%), and the methods for taking probiotics (n = 71, 17.75%).The overall quality of videos was moderate (3/5 point) assessed by GQS, while the usage (1/6 point) and reliability (2/5 point) detailing probiotics assessed by tailored DISCERN tool were poor. The attitude of probiotic video-producers was primarily positive (n = 323, 80.75%), followed by neutral (n = 52, 13.00%) and negative (n = 25, 6.25%) (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The current study showed that videos on social media platforms publicise important information including the concepts, usage, and precautions of probiotics to the public. But the overall quality of uploaded videos about probiotics was unsatisfactory. More efforts are needed to improve the higher-quality content of probiotic-related online videos and better propagate probiotic knowledge to the public in the future.

Adventitious root (AR) formation is of great significance for apple rootstock breeding. It is widely accepted that miR393 influences AR formation in many plant species; however, the molecular mechanism by which factors regulate AR formation remains insufficient. In this study, the evolutionary relationship of mdm-miR393 and candidate target genes MdTIR1/AFB was systematically identified, and the expression patterns were analysed. Multisequence alignment analysis of miR393 family members suggests that miR393 conservatively evolved between different species. The evolutionary relationship of the TIR1/AFBs can be divided into G1, G2 and G3 subgroups. During AR formation, the expression level of mdm-miR393a/b/c was significantly upregulated at 1 d and 7 d by exogenous auxin treatment. Furthermore, the expression levels of MdTIR1A, MdTIR1D, MdAFB1, MdAFB2, MdAFB3, MdAFB4 and MdAFB8 also appeared to be significantly changed by exogenous auxin induction. Subsequently, tissue-specific expression analysis showed that the expression levels of mdm-miR393 and MdTIR1/AFBs in different tissues exhibited significant differences. The promoter of mdm-miR393 contains multiple elements that respond to ABA, adversity and light signals; auxin treatment can activate the mdm-MIR393b promoter but is obviously inhibited by NPA treatment. The targeting relationship between mdm-MIR393b and MdTIR1A was verified by expression patterns, degradation group data, transient tobacco conversion results, and genes functions experiments. Heterologous overexpression of mdm-MIR393b (35S::mdm-MIR393b) decreased the number of ARs in the phenotype and reduced the expression level of the target gene NtTIR1 in tobacco. Compared to the wild type, the 35S::mdm-MIR393b transgenic plants demonstrated insensitivity to auxin. Furthermore, tir1 mutant exhibited reduced root system structure relative to the control. The above results illustrated that mdm-MIR393b is involved in mediating AR formation by targeted regulation of MdTIR1A expression in apple rootstock.

To explore the effects of different disturbance patterns on restoring the health of an infected stand, concentrated disturbance of not cutting trees before 10 years after infection, mode-rate disturbance of cutting infected pine trees, and strong distrubance of cutting infected pine trees, the neighboring trees and poorly growing pine trees were compared in a pure Pinus massomiana plantation infected by Bursaphelenchus xylophlius in Anji, Zhejiang, China. After 16 years, the importance values of P. massoniana in the three treatments were: concentrated disturbance > mode-rate disturbance > strong disturbance. However, the importance values of broad-leaved trees showed the opposite trend. Compared with the concentrated disturbance, the average DBH of P. massoniana in the moderate and strong disturbance treatments were 1.2 and 1.7 times higher, respectively, and those of broad-leaved species were 1.3 and 1.9 times higher, respectively. The average height of pine trees in the moderate and strong disturbance treatments increased 1.5 and 2.0 times, respectively, and those of broad-leaved species 1.2 and 1.8 times, respectively. The tree volume per hectare in moderate and strong disturbance treatments were 5.2 and 3.8 times that of concentrated disturbance treatment, respectively. In the moderate and strong disturbance treatments, the number of trees in each diameter class was greater than in the concentrated disturbance treatment. The stand diameter distribution in the multi-storied moderate and strong disturbance treatments followed an inverse J-shaped curve. The species richness and biodiversity were significantly higher in the mode-rate and strong disturbance treatments than in the concentrated disturbance treatment. The individual size inequality and structural complexity indices followed the order of moderate disturbance > strong disturbance > concentrated disturbance. Under moderate and strong disturbance treatments, the single-storied and evenly aged pure P. massoniana plantation became multi-storied and unevenly aged mixed stands. All the three disturbance patterns promoted the succession of broad-leaved trees, with the pace of succession in the order of strong disturbance > moderate disturbance > concentrated disturbance. In conclusion, moderate disturbance achieved better restoration. Thinning pure P. massoniana plantation could accelerate the succession of a mixed stand to enhance resistance against Bursaphelenchus xylophlius invasion.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the effects of region of interest (ROI) sizes on apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) measurements for the differentiation of normal pancreas (NP), pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and mass-forming chronic pancreatitis (MFCP). RESULTS: There were no significant differences for the mean ADCs measured by 12 different-size ROIs for MFCP, or PDAC and NP (P = 0.858-1.0). With the increase of ROI size (≥ 55 mm2), ADCs of PDAC were significantly lower than those of NP (all P < 0.05), but there was no difference of the accuracy in ADC for differentiating the two groups only at a ROI size of 214 mm2. When ROI size was above 99 mm2, ADCs of MFCP were significantly lower than those of NP (all P < 0.05). There were no significant differences for any of the mean ADCs measured by 12 different-size ROIs between PDAC and MFCP (P > 0.05). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) was performed on 89 participants: 64 with PDAC, 7 with MFCP, as well as 18 healthy volunteers. ADC maps were created using mono-exponential model. A homemade software was used to measure the mean ADC values of 12 concentric round ROIs (areas: 15, 46, 55, 82, 99, 121, 134, 152, 161, 189, 214, 223, and 245 mm2) for the mass of lesions and the NP tissue. CONCLUSIONS: In ADC measurements, the optimized ROI size is 214 mm2 for the differentiation of PDAC and NP; ROI size of ≥ 99 mm2 is recommended to differentiate between MFCP and NP. ADC was not useful for the differentiation of PDAC and MFCP.

PURPOSE: To assess the influence of region of interest (ROI) on tumor apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) measurements and interobserver variability in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-two patients recruited with pathology-proven PDAC underwent diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI, 3.0T) prior to the surgical resection. Two independent readers measured tumor ADCs according to three ROI methods: whole-volume, single-slice, and small solid sample of tumor. Minimum and mean ADCs were obtained. The interobserver variability for each of the three methods was analyzed using interclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Bland-Altman analysis. The minimum and mean ADCs among the ROI methods were compared using nonparametric tests. RESULTS: The single-slice ROI method showed the best reproducibility in the minimum ADC measurements (mean difference ± limits of agreement between two readers were 0.025 ± 0.25 × 10(-3) mm2 /s; ICC, 0.92) among the three ROI methods. For the solid tumor sample ROI, both minimum ADC and mean ADC measurements reproducibility were the worst, with limits of agreement up to ±0.50 × 10(-3) mm2 /s and ±0.32 × 10(-3) mm2 /s, respectively (ICCs, 0.41/0.58). Both the minimum and mean ADCs demonstrated significant differences among the three ROI methods (both P < 0.001). The post-hoc analyses results showed no significant difference with regard to the mean ADCs between whole-volume and single-slice ROI methods (P = 0.14). CONCLUSION: The ROI method had a considerable influence on both the minimum and mean ADC values and the interobserver variability in PDAC. The worst interobserver variability was observed for both the minimum and mean ADCs derived from small solid-sample ROI.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: To prospectively investigate and compare three techniques of region of interest (ROI) placement for apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) measurements in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-one patients with surgical pathology-proven PDAC and 18 healthy volunteers were included. Respiratory-triggered single-shot echo-planar diffusion-weighted imaging (b values = 0, 600 s/mm(2)) was used to calculate the ADC maps across all participants. Three readers independently measured the ADCs according to three ROI methods: whole-volume, single-slice, and small solid samples of tumor. Mean ADCs for the healthy pancreas were calculated using three measurements from pancreatic head to tail, and ADCs of distal pancreas to the tumor were also measured. The interobserver variability for the three techniques was measured using the interclass correlation coefficient. The diagnostic performances were calculated and compared using the receiver operating characteristic curves (ROC). RESULTS: All the ADCs measured from the three ROI placements on PDAC were significantly lower than that from the normal pancreas. ADCs of solid tumor samples were significantly lower than that measured from whole volume or single slice (both P < .001). Only the ADCs measured from the solid sample ROI placements on tumor were observed significantly lower than the ADC of distal pancreatic parenchyma (P = .005). Areas under the ROC for the identification of PDAC, based on small solid samples, single-slice and whole-volume ROIs, respectively, were 0.939, 0.791, and 0.735. CONCLUSIONS: ADC based on the small solid samples of tumor provided the highest diagnostic performance in assessing PDAC and was more accurate than ADCs measured from single-slice or whole-volume ROI.

BACKGROUND: To investigate the monoexponential and biexponential apparent diffusion parameters in different anatomical regions of the healthy pancreas using intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) diffusion weighted imaging (DWI). METHODS: Fifty-seven healthy volunteers (age, 45.0 ± 10.8 years) were recruited. DWI of the pancreas was performed with 9 b-values (0, 20, 50, 100, 200, 400, 600, 800, and 1000 s/mm(2) , respectively). The ADC was calculated for all b-values using linear regression yielding ADCtotal . The ADCb value of the monoexponential DWI, slow component of diffusion (ADCslow ), incoherent microcirculation (ADCfast ) and perfusion fraction (f) of the biexponential DWI were calculated for the pancreas head, body and tail. Dependency of the parameters on the anatomical regions was analyzed using Friedman test. RESULTS: All of the mean ADC400 , ADC600 , ADC800 , ADC1000 , ADCtotal and f values differed significantly among the anatomical regions with the lowest values were observed in the tail of pancreas (P < 0.05). The Friedman test results demonstrated a significant decline of the mean ADC values of the monoexponential DWI from b20 to b1000 for the three anatomical regions respectively (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Multi-b-value DWI derived quantitative parameters including ADC400 , ADC600 , ADC800 , ADC1000 , ADCtotal , and f differed significantly among the pancreatic head, body and tail, with the lowest values obtained in the tail.

Diffusion weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI) has been mostly acquired using single-shot echo-planar imaging (ss EPI) to minimize motion induced artifacts. The spatial resolution, however, is inherently limited in ss EPI especially for abdominal imaging, even with the advances in parallel imaging. A novel method of reduced Field of View ss EPI (rFOV ss EPI) has achieved high resolution DWI in human carotid artery, spinal cord with reduced blurring and higher spatial resolution than conventional ss EPI, but it has not been used to pancreas imaging. In the work, comparisons between the full FOV ss-DW EPI and rFOV ss-DW EPI in image qualities and ADC values of pancreatic tumors and normal pancreatic tissues were performed to demonstrate the feasibility of pancreatic high resolution rFOV DWI. There were no significant differences in the mean ADC values between full FOV DWI and rFOV DWI for the 17 subjects using b=600s/mm(2) (P=0.962). However, subjective scores of image quality was significantly higher at rFOV ss DWI (P=0.008 and 0.000 for b-value=0s/mm(2) and 600s/mm(2) respectively). The spatial resolution of DWI for pancreas was increased by a factor of over 2.0 (from almost 3.0mm/pixel to 1.25mm/pixel) using rFOV ss EPI technique. Reduced FOV ss EPI can provide good DW images and is promising to benefit applications for pancreatic diseases.

AIM: To obtain reference values for pancreatic flow output rate (PFR) and peak time (PT) in healthy volunteers and chronic pancreatitis (CP); to correlate quantification of secretin enhanced magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (SMRCP) of pancreatic fluid output following secretin with fecal elastase-1 (FE-1) tests. METHODS: The present study includes 53 subjects comprised of 17 healthy individuals and 36 patients with CP from April 2011 to January 2013. The 36 patients with CP were divided into three groups of mild CP (n = 14), moderate CP (n = 19) and advanced CP (n = 3) by M-ANNHEIM classification for CP.. Fifty-three cases underwent FE-1 test and magnetic resonance imaging using 3.0 T-device (Signa EXCITE, GE Healthcare). Coronal T2-weighted single-shot turbo spin-echo, spiratory triggered, covering the papillae, duodenum and small bowel. MRCP was performed with a heavily T2-weighted fat-suppressed long TE HASTE sequence (thick slab 2D MRCP sequence), repeated every 2 min up to 11 min after 0.1 mL/kg secretin injection (Secrelux, Sanochemia(®), Germany). FE-1 test used sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) test (ScheBo. Tech(®), Germany). RESULTS: A good linear correlation showed between the calculated volume and the actual volume by Phantom experiments. Fifty-three paired Quantification of secretin enhanced magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCPQ) and FE-1 data sets were analyzed. The mean FE-1 of 53 cases was 525.41 ± 94.44 µg/g for 17 healthy volunteers, 464.95 ± 136.13 µg/g for mild CP, 301.55 ± 181.55 µg/g for moderate CP, 229.30 ± 146.60 µg/g for advanced CP. Also, there was statistically significant difference in FE-1 (P = 0.0001) between health and CP. The mean values of PFR and PT were 8.18 ± 1.11 mL/min, 5.76 ± 1.71 min for normal; 7.27 ± 2.04 mL/min, 7.71 ± 2.55 min for mild CP; 4.98 ± 2.57 mL/min, 9.10 ± 3.00 min for moderate CP; 4.13 ± 1.83 mL/min, 12.33 ± 1.55 min for advanced CP. Further, statistically significant difference in PFR (P = 0.0001) and PT (P = 0.0001) was observed between health and CP. Besides, there was correlation (r = 0.79) and consistency (K = 0.6) between MRCPQ and ELISA Test. It was related between M-ANNHEIM classification and PFR (r = 0.55), FE-1 (r = 0.57). CONCLUSION: SMRCP can provide a safe, non-invasive and efficient method to evaluate the exocrine function of the pancreas.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the value of high b value diffusion-weighted (DW) imaging in differentiating between pancreatic carcinoma and mass-forming chronic pancreatitis (MFCP). METHODS: Fifty-one consecutive patients with pathology-proven pancreatic carcinoma (n = 37) or MFCP (n = 14) were evaluated with DW imaging (b value, 0 and 1000 s/mm(2)) at a 3-T MR system. Overall 20 healthy volunteers were evaluated as the control group. The apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values of normal pancreas, pancreatic carcinoma, MFCP, and mass-associated obstructive pancreatitis were measured. RESULTS: On high b value (1000 s/mm(2) ) DW images, both pancreatic carcinoma and MFCP were hyperintense focal lesions; mass-associated obstructive pancreatitis occurred in 17 of 37 (45.9%) pancreatic carcinoma and 8 of 14 (57.1%) MFCP. The ADC (×10(-3) mm(2) /s) of the pancreatic carcinomas (1.06 ± 0.15) was significantly lower than that of normal pancreas (1.47 ± 0.18; P < 0.01), MFCP (1.35 ± 0.14; P < 0.01) and mass-associated chronic pancreatitis (1.44 ± 0.17; P < 0.01). The ADC of MFCP was also lower than that in the normal pancreas (P = 0.025), whereas the ADC of mass-associated obstructive pancreatitis was not different from those of the MFCP (P = 0.113) and normal pancreas (P = 0.544). When 1.195 was used as the optimal cut-off value, ADC quantification obtained a sensitivity of 85.7% and a specificity of 86.5% for differentiating pancreatic carcinomas from MFCP. CONCLUSION: High b value DW imaging in combination with ADC quantification at a 3-T MR system is useful in differentiating between pancreatic carcinoma and MFCP.

RESUMEN

Predecessors researched emphatically the mineralization and the movement of ore body in space in fault movement. Study on particles that were formed from sulfide ore and wall rock in fault movement has been always ignored. The present paper studies the fault particles of the sulfide deposit using the FTIR spectroscopic spectra and scanning electron microscope. The results show that the samples consist of hydrous calcium sulphate, hydrous sulfur calcium carbonate, quartz, sericite, and organic matter. This shows that S(2-) in sulfide minerals is oxidized and transformed into S(6+) in fault movement. Sulfide minerals formed hydrous calcium sulphate and sulfide minerals and carbonate minerals formed hydrous sulfur calcium carbonate. Hydrous sulfur calcium carbonate is a mineral newly discovered in our study. The research results not only can be applied in the prospect and the exploration of this ore deposit type but also is important for ore utilization. In addition, this paper discussed identification characteristics of infrared spectrum of hydrous calcium sulphate and hydrous sulfur calcium carbonate and pointed out that infrared spectral analysis is suitable for analysis of hydrous calcium sulphate and hydrous sulfur calcium carbonate particles formed in fault movement.
