RESUMEN

Context: There are evidences that excessive production of reactive oxygen species is one of important abnormalities that contribute to development of chronic diabetic complications. Objective: To test the effect of intensive insulin therapy with analogues through the examining the level of oxidative stress parameters. Subjects and Methods: Comparison of data obtained by prospective analysis in 49 patients with T1DM was used, before and after six months of intensive insulin analog therapy. Results: The values of all three investigated parameters of oxidative stress malondialdehyde (MDA); xanthine oxidase (XO) and nitrates and nitrites (NOx) in our population with T1DM compared to the control (group of 42 voluntary blood donors) are statistically higher. The levels of antioxidant protection parameters compared to the control group also differ; the activities of catalase and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) are statistically higher in our population of T1DM patients compared to the control and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities are statistically lower. The values of all three examined parameters of oxidative stress decrease after six months of intensive insulin analog therapy and were statistically lower after the therapy: for MDA p<0.001, for XO p<0.01 and for NOx p<0.05. The activities of catalase (p<0.001) and GPx (p<0.01) both decrease with therapy, while the activity of SOD is highest after the sixth month of therapy (p<0.001). Conclusion: In our patients with T1DM compared to the control the level of oxidative stress is significantly higher. Intensive insulin analog therapy with aspart and glargine promotes predominantly the improvement of oxidative stress, and in a less degree antioxidant protection.

RESUMEN

In this paper, for the first time type and texture of northern Serbian soils were examined using DRIFT spectroscopy. It was investigated whether it is possible to use the specular reflection of the quartz band for the purpose of the preliminary quantitative determination of texture properties. Investigation is conducted on the five most common soil types in Vojvodina: Arenosols, Fluvisols, Chernozems, Vertisols and Solonetz. Spectra were obtained using diffuse reflectance (DRIFT) technique in mid-IR. Spectral characteristics for five characteristic soil types in this region were determined. Certain regularities were observed regarding inorganic bands and main relations between these inorganic components and the texture parameters were determined. The empirical equation for the rough preliminary estimation of the soil texture was determined based on the absorbance values on the 2228 and 1211 cm-1.

RESUMEN

Semi-essential amino acid L-arginine may be of fundamental importance in various intracellular and intercellular pathways related to skin repair and wound healing. Our current study was aimed to explore the effect of L-arginine on skin fibroblast (L929) signaling pathways involved in cell proliferation (Akt-pAkt kinase, Erk/pErk1/2 kinase, JNK/pJNK kinase and pStat-1), apoptosis (Bcl2 and Bax) and immune defense (NF-κB and CD26). Significant upregulation of Erk (p<0.011), pErk (p<0.017) and JNK (p<0.002) was documented, while the rise was not significant for pJNK kinase. The Akt/pAkt signaling pathway did not change significantly for the above-mentioned time and dose, while pStat-1 was significantly down regulated (p<0.011). The exposure of skin fibroblasts to L-arginine increased anti-apoptotic Bcl2/Bax stoichiometry ratio (p<0.05), obtained by calculation of their individual quantities. L-arginine was able to elicit NF-κB signaling through the increase of p65 active subunit level (p<0.004), while CD26 surface antigen level was not significantly changed. In conclusion, the exposure of skin fibroblasts to L-arginine may help in maintaining and stimulating skin fibroblast proliferative, anti-apoptotic and immune defense function. Therefore, the proposed L-arginine dose may be used for tissue regeneration application, which would be of importance in regenerative medicine, skin rejuvenation approaches and wound healing.

RESUMEN

We considered temporal and spatial variations to the thermal and moisture regimes of the most common RSGs (Reference Soil Groups) in Serbia under the A1B scenario for the 2021-2050 and 2071-2100 periods, with respect to the 1961-1990 period. We utilized dynamically downscaled global climate simulations from the ECHAM5 model using the coupled regional climate model EBU-POM (Eta Belgrade University-Princeton Ocean Model). We analysed the soil temperature and moisture time series using simple statistics and a Kolmogorov complexity (KC) analysis. The corresponding metrics were calculated for 150 sites. In the future, warmer and drier regimes can be expected for all RSGs in Serbia. The calculated soil temperature and moisture variations include increases in the mean annual soil temperature (up to 3.8°C) and decreases in the mean annual soil moisture (up to 11.3%). Based on the KC values, the soils in Serbia are classified with respect to climate change impacts as (1) less sensitive (Vertisols, Umbrisols and Dystric Cambisols) or (2) more sensitive (Chernozems, Eutric Cambisols and Planosols).
