Objetivou-se, com este trabalho, avaliar o efeito da utilização de complexo enzimático em rações para leitões sobre o desempenho zootécnico nas fases pré-inicial e inicial. Foram utilizados, para isso, 292 leitões, machos castrados e fêmeas, de linhagem comercial. O período de suplementação da enzima, na maternidade, foi do sétimo ao vigésimo primeiro dia de idade, e, na creche, foi do desmame até a saída para a fase de crescimento. O delineamento utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado, sendo a matriz e sua leitegada consideradas a unidade experimental durante a maternidade e uma baia com dez leitões na creche. Na maternidade, os tratamentos consistiram em: T1 - ração controle, sem complexo enzimático; T2 - ração controle com adição on top do complexo enzimático com inclusão de 5%. Na creche, foram definidos três tratamentos: T1 - ração controle; T2 - ração controle com inclusão on top de 5% do complexo enzimático na fase de maternidade; T3 - ração controle com inclusão de 5% de complexo enzimático nas fases de maternidade e creche. A suplementação durante a lactação não influenciou o desempenho da leitegada na maternidade até o 21º dia. Na creche, leitões alimentados com ração controle apresentaram maior peso inicial em relação aos suplementados na fase de maternidade e creche. Ao término da fase, os leitões mostraram desempenho semelhante, independente da dieta. Conclui-se que a inclusão do complexo enzimático na forma on top em dietas para leitões não influenciou parâmetros de desempenho na maternidade, porém, favoreceu a recuperação de leitões desmamados com menor peso.


This study aimed to evaluate the effect of using an enzymatic complex in piglet feeds on the zootechnical performance in the pre-starter and initial phases. For this purpose, 292 piglets, castrated males and females, of commercial lineage were used. The enzyme supplementation period in the maternity hospital was from the seventh to the twenty-first day of age, and in the nursery, it was from the waning until the exit for the growth phase. The design used was completely randomized, with the mother and her litter considered the experimental unit during maternity and a stall with 10 piglets in the nursery. In maternity, the treatments consisted of: T1 - control feed, without the enzymatic complex; T2 - control diet with on top addition of the enzymatic complex with 5% inclusion. Three treatments were defined at the nursery: T1 - control feed; T2 - control diet with inclusion on top of 5% of the enzymatic complex in the maternity phase; T3 - control feed with the inclusion of 5% enzymatic complex in the maternity and nursery phases. Supplementation during lactation did not influence litter performance in the maternity unit until 21 days. In the nursery, piglets fed with control feed had higher initial weight compared to those supplemented in the maternity and nursery phases. At the end of the phase, the piglets showed similar performance, regardless of diet. It is concluded that the inclusion of the enzymatic complex used in the on top form in diets for piglets did not influence performance parameters in maternity; however, it favored the recovery of weaned piglets with lower weight.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii (SB) for sows on their productive performance, colostrum and milk composition, and litter performance, in tropical humid climatic conditions. A total of 105 sows (Topigs Norsvin®) were allotted to a 5 × 3 completely randomized factorial design, with five diets (control diet; SBGL4 and SBGL8: 0.04 and 0.08% SB supplementation from the 90th day of gestation until 24th day of lactation; SBL4 and SBL8: 0.04 and 0.08% SB supplementation during lactation) and three parity order groups (PO: 1st and 2nd; 3rd and 4th; 5th to 7th), considering each sow and their litter as experimental unit. Sows above the 5th PO that fed control diet had a lower daily milk production (DMP), number of weaned piglets (NWP), and daily weight gain of litter (DWGL) than sows from 1st to 4th PO that fed the same diet (P < 0.05). Dietary supply of SBGL4 and SBGL8 to older sows provided a higher DMP, NWP, and DWGL when compared to sows of same PO that fed the control diet (P < 0.05). Dietary supply of SBGL4, SBGL8, SBL4, and SBL8 provided a higher dry matter and protein contents in sows' milk of 1st and 2nd PO when compared to sows from same PO that fed control diet (P < 0.05). Dietary supply of SB enhances milk yield of older sows and their litter performance, as well as the dry matter and protein content of younger sows' milk in tropical humid climatic conditions.

Circovirus is widespread in pig farming, and mainly affects piglets increasing morbidity and mortality rates, being vaccination the most effective strategy to control one. However, for an effective vaccine response, certain factors must be considered, such as the adoption of good practices during the conservation and handling of vaccines, environmental challenges, nutritional and health status of the animals, and presence of immunosuppressive agents, such as mycotoxins, in the feed. Here, we describe a circovirus outbreak associated with mycotoxin immunosuppression that occurred in the piglets during the nursery phase at a commercial farm, which initiated with a sudden increase in the mortality of vaccinated piglets. Blood samples were collected and analyzed using RT-PCR, while the feed was subjected to mycotoxicological analysis. RT-PCR analysis revealed the presence of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV-2) in the blood serum samples, thereby confirming the circovirus outbreak. The feed analysis revealed elevated levels of mycotoxins (deoxynivalenol, aflatoxins, and fumonisins), which were above the levels tolerated by the piglets during the nursery phase. Therefore, the contaminated feed was discarded, and a new ration was made available. Concurrently, the vaccination program was amended to normalize the mortality rate. O circovírus é muito difundido na suinocultura e atinge principalmente leitões, aumentando as taxas de morbi-mortalidade, sendo a vacinação a estratégia mais eficaz de controle. No entanto, para uma resposta vacinal eficaz, alguns fato-res devem ser considerados, como a adoção de boas práticas durante a conservação e manuseio de vacinas, desafios ambientais, estado nutricional e de saúde dos animais e presença de agentes imunossupressores, como micotoxinas, na ração. Descreveu-se um surto de circovírus associado à imunossupressão por micotoxinas que ocorreu em leitões durante a fase de creche em uma granja comercial, que começou com um aumento repentino na mortalidade de leitões vacinados. Amostras de sangue foram coletadas e analisadas por RT-PCR, enquanto a ração foi submetida à análise micotoxicológica. A análise de RT-PCR revelou a presença de circovírus suíno tipo 2 (PCV-2), confirmando assim o surto de circovírus. A análise da ração revelou níveis de micotoxinas (desoxinivalenol, aflatoxinas e fumonisinas) acima dos tolerados pelos leitões nesta fase. Portanto, o alimento con-taminado foi descartado e uma nova ração foi disponibilizada. Simultaneamente, o programa de vacinação foi alterado para normalizar a taxa de mortalidade. A presença de micotoxinas na ração pode ser o fator predisponente para infecção de leitões causada por PCV-2 e outras doenças. Esse é um aspecto importante, pois o efeito imunossupressor das micotoxinas pode alte-rar a resposta vacinal, tornando os leitões mais suscetíveis às doenças mesmo após vacinação.(AU)

Os helmintos gastrintestinais podem afetar o desempenho dos leitões e causar diarreias na fase de creche, um dos grandes desafios enfrentados na produção. Logo, o acompanhamento parasitológico é fundamental para que seja realizado o diagnóstico do grau de infecção animal para se tomar as medidas curativas e preventivas corretas. Portanto objetivou-se analisar as fezes de leitões com e sem diarreia na fase pré-inicial e sua relação com a presença de ovos de parasitas. As coletas foram realizadas em uma granja comercial de suínos, em que 40 animais foram escolhidos aleatoriamente e divididos igualmente em dois grupos, com e sem diarreia. As amostras foram analisadas pelo exame de direto das fezes e pelo método de flutuação. Das amostras analisadas, todas mostraram se negativas para o grupo sem diarreia. No entanto os animais com diarreia apresentaram prevalência de 10% e 5% quanto à presença de parasitoses gastrintestinais nos métodos direto e de flutuação respectivamente. Foram detectados: Ascaris sp., Strongyloides sp., Cystoisospora sp. e Eimeria spp. Dada a origem multifatorial das diarreias em leitões no pós-desmame, conclui-se que as diarreias de leitões na fase pré-inicial não estão somente relacionadas à presença de endoparasitos, dessa forma, outras possíveis causas devem ser estudadas para que haja um maior controle dos distúrbios entéricos nesta fase.

Therefore, parasitological monitoring is essential for the diagnosis of the degree of animal infection in order to take the right curative and preventive measures. Therefore, the objective was to analyze the feces of piglets with and without diarrhea in the pre-initial phase and their relationship with the presence of parasite eggs. The collections were carried out in a commercial pig farm, in which 40 animals were randomly chosen and divided equally into two groups, with and without diarrhea. The samples were analyzed by direct stool examination and the flotation method. Of the analyzed samples, all were negative for the group without diarrhea. However, animals with diarrhea had a prevalence of 10% and 5% regarding the presence of gastrointestinal parasites at direct and flotation method, respectively. Ascaris sp., Strongyloides sp., Cystoisosporasp. and Eimeria spp. were detected. Given the multifactorial origin of diarrhea in piglets in the post-weaning period, it is concluded that piglet diarrhea in the pre-initial phase is not only related to the presence of endoparasites, therefore, other possible causes must be studied so that there is a greater control of disorders enteric at this stage.
