RESUMEN

Background: Headache is considered a common health problem affecting physicians during Coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic and has direct impact on their productivity. Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), stress and lack of sleep are common factors affecting their headache. Results: Out of 165 participants, 38(23%) experienced new onset headache. Participants using Combined Face and eye PPE usage were at higher risk of developing headache compared to single PPE users, Participants wearing face shield were at higher risk of developing headache compared to eyewear non users. Conclusion: COVID-19 hospital's physicians may experience new-onset headache or change in their previously existing headache, mostly disposed by PPE eyewear and combined face and eye PPE.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a novel virus that has been reported to have various neurological manifestations. Cerebrovascular disorders have been encountered as a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) presentation in our center during the pandemic. CASE PRESENTATION: We are presenting 10 cases with cerebrovascular manifestations after having COVID-19 few days prior to stroke. CONCLUSION: Cerebrovascular manifestations can occur in association with COVID-19 and may have significant implications on prognosis and management.

RESUMEN

Introduction Determining the prognosis of ischemic stroke is important for neurologists and patients. The aim is to study the predictors of three months clinical outcome in ischemic stroke patients. Materials and methods A total of 397 patients were classified according to three months modified Rankin Scale score (mRS score) into two groups, favorable and unfavorable outcome. Favorable outcome was assumed if the score was zero or one, or unchanged if the score was ≥ 1 before the onset of the most recent event. Results The variables associated with unfavorable outcome were old age (P <0.001), presence of cardiac disease (P <0.001), low ejection fraction (P=0.008), low levels of total cholesterol and low-density lipoproteins (P <0.001), large artery atherosclerosis stroke (P <0.001), early confluent (P=0.005), high National Institute of Health stroke scale (NIHSS) score on admission (P <0.001), mRS score before admission (P <0.001), mRS score on discharge (P <0.001). Lacunar stroke was associated with favorable outcome (P <0.001). The regression analysis showed mRS score on discharge (P <0.001) and the presence of cardiac diseases (P=0.077) as independent predictors of unfavorable outcome. Conclusion High mRS score on discharge and presence of the cardiac disease independently could predict the unfavorable outcome and mRS score on discharge had a high sensitivity and negative predictive value in predicting the unfavorable outcome.
