RESUMEN

In this study we used the samples of autopsy material from 15 patients who died of myocardial infarction. As control we used autopsy material from 5 victims of car accidents. Quantitative comparison of area of coronary arteries of healthy persons and patients with myocardial infarction revealed its decrease in patients with myocardial infarction. In ischemic heart disease patients there were many "xanthoma cells" forming the basis net filled with glycoproteins. Thickening of intima in patients with ischemic heart disease was due to increased quantity of glycosoaminoglycans and glycoproteins. In coronary arteries of all patients with myocardial infarction we found inflammatory infiltrates, consisting of lymphocytes and xanthomatous cells.

RESUMEN

We present a description of a clinical observation of a histiocytoid cardiomyopathy in a female patient aged 4 months. This pathology is rare in pediatric cardiology. Its etiology is linked with mutation of the gene encoding mitochondrial cytochrome B (mitochondrial transport of electrons). This mutation leads to a specific morphological and functional abnormalities of cardiomyocytes. Purkinje cells and cells of conduction system at microscopy appear as histiocytolike foam cells cytoplasm of which contain large amount of lipids and glycogen. Girls prevail among those affected. The case reflects clinical picture characteristic for this nosology: malignant arrhythmia and cardiomegaly with fatal outcome.

RESUMEN

We studied the effect of xenogenic neonatal cardiomyocytes on enzymatic processes in rat myocardium under conditions of epinephrine-induced damage. It was found that transplantation of the cell preparation restricts the zone of suppressed enzyme activity in the myocardium and promotes its recovery. Less pronounced metabolic disturbances corresponded to less pronounced morphological changes in the myocardium.

RESUMEN

The neuroprotective properties of N6-cyclohexyladenosine (CHA) and N6-cyclopentyladenosine (CPA), adenosine receptor agonists (A-agonists), were studied on a model of spinal cord ischemia (SCI) in rats (most closely reproducing the analogous clinical pathological process in humans). The SCI model was induced by intravasal occlusion of the abdominal aorta and its branches. CHA and CPA were introduced by intracerebroventricular injections in a dose of 25 micrograms/kg, 60 min before SCI induction. The protective effect was judged by comparing the patterns of neurological and histopathological disturbances in the untreated control (ischemia) and on the CHA or CPA background. The A-agonist CPA produced a pronounced, statistically reliable neuroprotector effect on the minimum invasive SCI model studied. CHA is also a statistically reliable but less effective neuroprotector. The A-agonists may have good prospects in clinics.

RESUMEN

The problem of brain ischemia damage treatment stimulates the search for new effective methods, which are studied on various experimental models. Most of such models possess significant disadvantages, producing hypoxia in the whole organism, being poorly controlled, involving serious traumas, and still being far from true pathological mechanisms accompanying the ischemia development. A model of focal brain ischemia in rats, induced by middle cerebral artery intravasal occlusion, is free of these disadvantages.

RESUMEN

Morphological manifestations of narcomania in heroin users are described. Diseases associated with heroin narcomania and causes of death of heroin users are presented. Morphological manifestations at the site of injections and inflammatory reactions in parenchymatous organs are characterized. The authors pay special attention to the productive inflammation which can serve as one of the signs that confirm narcomania in cases with parenteral injections of crude heroin. The authors refer the granulomas to toxic allergic form of granulomatous hypersensitive inflammation.

RESUMEN

Glomerular and fascicular zones of the adrenal gland and the incretory renal structures of patients who had died from benign (20) and malignant (10) forms of essential hypertension, chronic glomerulonephritis (10) and of rats with a genetic hypertension (10) were examined by morphometric methods. Hypertrophy of glomerular and fascicular zones is observed in both forms of the hypertension disease, spontaneous hypertension and chronic glomerulonephritis. Correlation analysis revealed moderate and strong links between the volumes of nuclei and nucleoli; within each zone and between the zones. This may indicate an increased functional activity of the two zones and their close interaction. Factorial analysis revealed a sign indicator--nucleus volume of the glomerular zone cells. Numerous moderate and strong correlations between the incretory renal structures and the adrenal cortex in the malignant form of the hypertension disease may indicate not only the involvement of the renin-angiotensin-aldosteron- and prostaglandin-synthesizing systems in the pathogenesis of this disease but their interaction as well.

RESUMEN

The human adrenal cortex in essential hypertension and in the salt-losing form of the adrenogenital syndrome and the adrenal cortex in spontaneously hypertensive rats were studied by morphometry. Under long-term functional loading hypertrophy of adrenocortical cells is the common way of increasing the mass of the cortex. The correlation between the morphological parameters of the adrenocortical structures increases in this condition. Hyperplasia along with hypertrophy has been found in man at an early age. The differences in the degree of hypertrophy of the nuclei and nucleoli may be connected with different intensity of adrenocortical function in different pathological conditions.
