RESUMEN

The relevance of the problem of chronic inflammatory diseases of the pharynx is due to the significant prevalence of this pathology. Among all forms of chronic pharyngitis, the most adverse effect on the quality of life is observed in chronic athrophic pharyngitis. According to the literature, in this category of patients there are no clear criteria for assessing the functional state and morphological picture of the mucous membrane of the posterior pharyngeal wall. Most of the described signs of atrophic pharyngitis are insufficienyly informative, which necessitates further improvement of existing and possible search for new diagnostic methods. Many of the modern methods of treatment do not provide a lasting effect due to the presence of only a local effect on the altered mucous membrane of the posterior pharyngeal wall, without taking into account the changes that are caused by a violation of trophic processes in the tissue, which necessitates the search for new effective methods of treating this disease. The review article outlines modern ideas about the methods of diagnosis and treatment of chronic pharyngitis, presents promising areas in the treatment of patients with atrophic pharyngitis. In foreign countries, the term «chronic tonsillopharyngitis¼ is most often used. Due to the existing difference in terminology, the predominant part of the material on the problem of chronic pharyngitis is presented by domestic literature sources.

RESUMEN

The problem of chronic tonsillitis remains one of the urgent problems of modern otorhinolaryngology. The article discusses the statistics and complications of chronic tonsillitis, provides indications for tonsillectomy and its main complications. OBJECTIVE: Generalization and systematization of data on the impact of surgical treatment on the quality of life of patients with chronic tonsillitis. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Search for literary sources, carried out using the search engines of the RSCI, PubMed, Web of Science, and eLibrary. RESULTS: A review of literature sources demonstrates a significant improvement in the quality of life of patients after tonsillectomy; however, data from some studies show a trend towards a decrease in the number of planned tonsillectomies and an associated increase in the detection of local purulent-septic complications.

RESUMEN

The analysis of modern data on biochemical adaptation of microorganisms for living in extreme conditions is presented in this review. Special attention has been paid to the analysis of adaptive responses of microorganisms to the conditions of increased radiation at the molecular and cellular levels. The data on the practical application of extremophils and extremoenzymes, synthesized by them, biologically active substances, biopolymers and so on, have been systematized.

RESUMEN

Study of adsorption-desorption behavior of herbicide atrazine in soils of different geographical zones in the presence of Coriolus hirsutus laccase was performed. Laccase was shown to significantly increase adsorption coefficient and to facilitate irreversible adsorption of atrazine to soil. Supposably, laccase catalyzes oxidative binding of atrazine to soil.

RESUMEN

The 10.6-fold rise in the number of HIV-infected prisoners in the Ivanovo Region from 1999 to 2002 caused a 4.3-fold increase in the incidence of respiratory tuberculosis among them, which shows HIV infection to be a risk factor of tuberculosis among the contingents of penitentiary facilities. In this connection, HIV infection should be referred to as the most important tuberculosis epidemiological index requiring that antituberculois work should be organized among them.

RESUMEN

Nitrate reductase from the haloalkalophilic denitrifying bacterium Halomonas sp. strain AGJ 1-3 was isolated and purified to homogeneity. The isolated enzyme belongs to a novel family of molybdenum-free nitrate reductases. It presents as a 130-140 kD monomeric protein with specific activity of 250 micromol/min per mg protein. The enzyme reduces not only nitrate, but also other anions, thus showing polyoxoanion reductase activity. Enzyme activity was maximal at pH 7.0 and 70-80 degrees C.

RESUMEN

Tungsten in the presence of molybdenum stimulates nitrate reductase activity and growth of the salt-tolerant yeast Rhodotorula glutinis on medium with nitrates. Tungsten is not incorporated in proteins possessing nitrate reductase activity. A significant increase in molybdenum cofactor in cells grown on medium with equimolar amounts of molybdenum and tungsten may relate to the stimulatory action of tungsten.

RESUMEN

Studies of influenza virus type A and B strains isolated during the epidemics of 1990 and 1991 in Novgorod from sick children previously vaccinated with influenza vaccines demonstrated no influence of postvaccination immunity on the antigenic properties of the isolates from patients with different vaccination history. Under conditions of the concurrent circulation of viruses with previously known and new antigenic structures the difference in the immune response consisted in its greater stimulation of this response to new influenza virus strains.

RESUMEN

Epidemics of influenza in towns of Russia were found to have been caused by influenza type B virus. Strains similar to B/Yamagata/16/88 were first isolated in the country. The study of antigenic and biological properties showed that the epidemic strains could be divided into 2 groups: similar to B/Victoria/2/87 and to B/Yamagata/16/88, that is, representing two branches of the evolutionary tree. In both groups the viruses were heterogeneous both in antigenic and biological properties.

RESUMEN

Investigations on homogenates of the rat liver, kidney and spleen established an intensive incorporation of glycine carbon into the fraction of lipids, which exceeds much the incorporation of glycine carbon into proteins and acetate carbon into lipids. The data show that glycine incorporates into the lipid fraction without a preliminary conversion into acetate.

RESUMEN

The paper deals with conditions of the label incorporation from 1-14C glycine into lipids and proteins of the rat liver, kidney, and spleen homogenates. It is shown that in preliminary dialyzed homogenates the process proceeds intensely under anaerobic conditions. Changes in pH of the homogenates from 6.8 to 7.4 do not affect the intensity of the label incorporation. Certain conditions of the process activation and inhibition are elucidated.
