The relative severity between chromium (Cr)-mediated ecotoxicity and its bioaccumulation has rarely been compared and evaluated. This study employed pot incubation experiments to simulate the soil environment with increased Cr pollution and study their effects on the growth of crops, including pepper, lettuce, wheat, and rice. Results showed that increasing total Cr presented ascendant ecotoxicity in upland soils when pH > 7.5, and significantly reduced the yield of pepper, lettuce and wheat grain by 0.3-100 %, whereas, this effect was weakened even reversed as the pH decreased. Surprisingly, a series of soils with Cr concentration of 22.7-623.5 mg kg-1 did not cause Cr accumulation in four crops over the Chinese permissible limit. The toxicity of Cr was highly associated with extractable Cr, where Cr (VI) made the greater contributions than Cr (III). Conclusively, the ecotoxicity of Cr poses a greater environmental issue as compared to the bioaccumulation of Cr in crops in upland soils, while extractable Cr (VI) makes the predominant contributions to the ecotoxicity of Cr as the total Cr increased. Our study proposes a synchronous consideration involving total Cr and Cr (VI) as the theoretical basis to establish a more reliable soil quality standard for safe production in China.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Mild hypothermia in hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury is increasingly being studied. This study aimed to conduct a systematic evaluation of the effectiveness of mild hypothermia in improving hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury. METHODS: We systematically searched CNKI, WanFang Data, PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science for original studies that used animal experiments to determine how mild hypothermia(32-34°C) pretreatment improves hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury(in situ 70% liver IR model). The search period ranged from the inception of the databases to May 5, 2023. Two researchers independently filtered the literature, extracted the data, and assessed the risk of bias incorporated into the study. The meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.4.1 and Stata 15 software. RESULTS: Eight randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving a total of 117 rats/mice were included. The results showed that the ALT levels in the mild hypothermia pretreatment group were significantly lower than those in the normothermic control group [Standardized Mean Difference (SMD) = -5.94, 95% CI(-8.09, -3.78), P<0.001], and AST levels in the mild hypothermia pretreatment group were significantly lower than those in the normothermic control group [SMD = -4.45, 95% CI (-6.10, -2.78), P<0.001]. The hepatocyte apoptosis rate in the mild hypothermia pretreatment group was significantly lower than that in the normothermic control group [SMD = -6.86, 95% CI (-10.38, -3.33), P<0.001]. Hepatocyte pathology score in the mild hypothermia pretreatment group was significantly lower than that in the normothermic control group [SMD = -4.36, 95% CI (-5.78, -2.95), P<0.001]. There was no significant difference in MPO levels between the mild hypothermia preconditioning group and the normothermic control group [SMD = -4.83, 95% CI (-11.26, 1.60), P = 0.14]. SOD levels in the mild hypothermia preconditioning group were significantly higher than those in the normothermic control group [SMD = 3.21, 95% CI (1.27, 5.14), P = 0.001]. MDA levels in the mild hypothermia pretreatment group were significantly lower than those in the normothermic control group [SMD = -4.06, 95% CI (-7.06, -1.07) P = 0.008]. CONCLUSION: Mild hypothermia can attenuate hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury, effectively reduce oxidative stress and inflammatory response, prevent hepatocyte apoptosis, and protect liver function.

Mercury (Hg) is a persistent soil pollutant, and its toxicity can be evaluated using soil enzyme indicators. However, a thorough understanding of how the enzyme resists and remains resilient to Hg stress is essential, as it significantly impacts the accuracy of toxicity assessments. Therefore, it is worthwhile to understand the functional stability of urease in soil under Hg pollution. This study compares the effects of Hg at different concentrations and exposure times on soil urease. Results indicate that soil urease activity was enhanced in the first two hours under low levels of Hg pollution, decreased after six hours of acute Hg pollution, and reached its maximum reduction in 24 hours. The urease in fluvo-aquic soil, with higher soil organic matter showed higher resistance to Hg acute pollution than that in red soil. Over a longer aging process, soil urease activity gradually recovered with time. Hormesis effects were observed in red soil under high Hg stress after 30 days, showing the strong resilience of urease enzyme function to Hg pollution. The ecological dose, ED10, (the Hg concentration causing a 10% reduction in soil urease activity) ranged from 0.09 to 0.59 mg kg-1 under short-term exposure, and was lower than that under a longer aging process (0.28 to 2.71 mg kg-1). Further, aging reduced the Hg ecotoxicity due to decreased Hg availability and the resilience of soil urease activity. This indicates that the risk of Hg pollution estimated by soil urease as an indicator depends on exposure time and enzyme stability. These factors need consideration in heavy metal pollution assessments using soil enzymes.

BACKGROUND: Portal hypertension leads to lethal complications in liver cirrhosis. Oxidative stress induced hepatic vascular dysfunction, which exaggerated vasoconstriction and increases hepatic vascular resistance (HVR). Gut dysbiosis further exacerbates portal hypertension. Fructooligosaccharides are prebiotics with potent antioxidant effect. This study aimed to evaluate the roles of fructooligosaccharides in portal hypertension-related vascular dysregulation and gut microbiome. METHODS: Sprague-Dawley rats received bile duct ligation to induce cirrhosis or sham operation as controls. The rats then randomly received fructooligosaccharides or vehicle for 4 weeks. Experiments were performed on the 29th day after operations. RESULTS: Fructooligosaccharides did not affect portal pressure. Interestingly, fructooligosaccharides significantly attenuated HVR (p = .03). Malondialdehyde, an oxidative stress marker, reduced significantly in the liver in fructooligosaccharides-treated group. In addition, superoxide dismutase and trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity increased in the treatment group. On the other hand, vasodilatation-related protein expressions, GTPCH and phospho-eNOS, enhanced significantly. Fructooligosaccharides had no adverse vasodilatation effects on splanchnic vascular system or porto-systemic collateral systems. Locomotor function was not affected by fructooligosaccharides. Faecal microbiota analysis showed that Negativicutes, Selenomonadales and Lactobacillus salivarius reduced in the fructooligosaccharides-treated group. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, fructooligosaccharides attenuate hepatic vascular dysfunction in cirrhotic rats via at least partly, ameliorate of dysbiosis and oxidative stress.

Background: The permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation and pacemaker dependency rates after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) are highly variable as some of the conduction disturbances are reversible. It remains poorly investigated how to optimise temporary pacing in these patients. This study aimed to explore the potential reduction in the PPM implantation rate using temporary-permanent pacemaker (TPPM) as a 1-month bridge. Methods: This is a prospective, multicentre, single-arm, observational study. Consecutive patients undergoing TAVR from March 1, 2022 to March 1, 2023 in 13 tertiary hospitals in China were screened. Patients who developed high-degree atrioventricular block, complete heart block, or first-degree atrioventricular block plus new onset left bundle branch block during the TAVR procedure or within 1 month after TAVR were included to receive TPPM. Patients with pre-existing PPM implantation or indications for PPM implantation before the TAVR procedure were excluded. Patients with TPPM were monitored to determine whether the conduction disturbances persisted or recovered. The primary endpoint was the rate of freedom from indications for PPM implantation 1 month after TAVR. This study is registered with ChiCTR, ChiCTR2200057931. Findings: Of 688 patients who have undergone TAVR, 71 developed conduction disturbance and met the inclusion criteria, 1 patient withdrew due to noncompliance, 70 patients received TPPM and completed follow-up. There were 41 (58.6%) men and 29 (41.4%) women in the study, with a mean age of 74.3 ± 7.3 years. At 1 month follow-up, 75.7% (53/70) of the patients with TPPM did not require PPM implantation. For 688 patients who have undergone TAVR, the rate of PPM implantation at 1 month was 2.47% (17/688, 95% CI 1.55%-3.92%), representing a significant reduction in self-comparison with the rate at 48 h after TPPM (2.47% vs. 8.28% [95% CI 6.45%-10.58%], P < 0.0001). Similar results were obtained in the subgroup analysis of patients with HAVB/CHB. Multivariate analysis revealed the baseline PR interval, difference between the membranous septum length and implantation depth, and timing of postprocedural conduction disturbance occurrence were independent predictors of freedom from indications for PPM implantation at 1 month after TAVR. Interpretation: Using TPPM as a 1-month bridge allows for a buffer period to distinguish whether conduction disturbances are reversible or persistent, resulting in a significant reduction in the PPM implantation rate after TAVR when compared with the current strategy. However, this is an observational study, the results need to be confirmed in a randomized trial. In the development of back electrodes for perovskite solar cells (PSCs), the major challenges are stability and cost. To address this, we present an innovative approach: Simultaneous evaporation of two independently controlled sources of metal materials was performed to achieve a uniform distribution of the alloy electrodes. In this study, Ag-Cu alloys (the molar ratio of Ag/Cu is 7/3) with a high-index crystal face (111) and a work function matching perovskite were prepared using a codeposition technique. These properties mitigate nonradiative carrier recombination at the interface and reduce the energy barrier for carrier migration. Consequently, compared to Ag based PSCs (22.77%), the implementation of Ag-Cu alloy (Ag/Cu is 7/3)-based PSCs resulted in a power conversion efficiency of 23.72%. In a 1500 h tracking test in ambient air, the Ag-Cu alloy (Ag/Cu is 7/3)-based PSCs maintained their initial efficiency of 86%. This can be attributed to almost no migration of elements from the Ag-Cu alloy electrode to the perovskite layer. Our work presents a vital strategy for improving the stability of PSCs and reducing the costs associated with the back electrode in PSCs.

As urbanization speeds up, the concept of healthy cities is receiving more focus. This article compares Chongzuo and Nanning in Guangxi with Beijing to assess the development gaps in cities in Guangxi. An indicator system for healthy cities was designed from six dimensions-healthy economy, healthy population, healthy healthcare, healthy environment, healthy facilities, and healthy transportation-and 26 secondary indicators, which were selected from 2005 to 2022, and an improved factor analysis was used to synthesize a healthy city index (HCI). The number of factors was determined by combining characteristic roots and the variance contribution rate, and the HCI was weighted using the entropy-weighted Topsis method. A comprehensive evaluation of the urban health status of these cities was conducted. The results showed that extracting six common factors had the greatest effect, with a cumulative variance contribution rate of 93.83%. Chongzuo city scored higher in the field of healthcare. The healthy environment score of Nanning was relatively high, which may be related to continuous increases in green measures. In terms of the healthy economy dimension, Beijing was far ahead. However, in recent years, the healthy economy level in Chongzuo has increased, and the GDP growth rate has ranked among the highest in Guangxi. In addition, the growth rate of healthy facilities in Nanning was relatively fast and has been greater than that in Chongzuo in recent years, which indicates that the Nanning Municipal Government believes urban construction and municipal supporting facilities are highly important. In terms of healthy transportation, Chongzuo and Nanning scored higher than Beijing. This may be because the transportation in these two cities is convenient and the traffic density is more balanced than that in Beijing, thereby reducing traffic congestion. Chongzuo had the highest score for a healthy population, and a steadily growing population provides the city with stable human resources, which helps promote urban economic and social development. Finally, relevant policy recommendations were put forwards to enhance the health level of the cities.

Purpose: To explore the early diagnostic value of superb microvascular imaging (SMI) features within the rotator cuff gap for frozen shoulder. Patients and Methods: This prospective study enrolled patients with acute early-stage frozen shoulder seeking treatment at Zhabei Central Hospital in Jing'an District, Shanghai, between July 2021 and December 2022 were enrolled in this study. Healthy controls were collected in a 1:1 ratio from the same hospital's physical examination center. All participants underwent SMI and power Doppler ultrasound (PDUS) of the rotator cuff gap. Results: The study included 79 patients with frozen shoulder and 77 healthy controls. Compared with the healthy control group, the patient group had a higher proportion of hypoechoic rotator cuff gap (81.0% vs 48.1%, P<0.001), a thicker coracohumeral ligament (2.60±1.01 vs 2.03±0.97, P<0.001), a thicker glenohumeral joint capsule (3.10±0.99 vs 2.46±1.17, P<0.001), and elevated blood grading using SMI (P<0.001) and PDUS (P=0.014). The highest area under the curve (AUC) was observed for SMI blood flow grading (AUC=0.824, 95% CI: 0.755-0.880, P<0.001), resulting in 82% sensitivity and 77% specificity when using a cutoff of 1. SMI blood flow grading was associated with external rotation <30° (P=0.007) and abduction <30° (P=0.013) but not with internal rotation <30° (P=0.630) or flexion <30° (P=0.562). Conclusion: The grading of SMI blood flow may emerge as a valuable predictive indicator for the early stages of frozen shoulder. This simple ultrasound technique holds the potential to enhance the diagnostic process, enabling early initiation of treatment and potentially improving patient outcomes.

Selenium (Se) serves as a burgeoning high-energy-density cathode material in lithium-ion batteries. However, the development of Se cathode is strictly limited by low Se utilization and inferior cycling stability arising from intrinsic volume expansion and notorious shuttle effect. Herein, a microbial metabolism strategy is developed to prepare "functional vesicle-like" Se globules via Bacillus subtilis subsp. from selenite in sewage, in which Se nanoparticles are armed with a natural biological protein membrane with rich nitrogen and phosphorus, achieving the eco-efficient conversion of trash into treasure (selenite, SeO3 2- → Selenium, Se). The appealing-design "functional vesicle-like" Se globules are beneficial to accommodate volume changes of Se in electrochemical reactions, confining polyselenides via chemisorption, and enhancing mechanical strength of electrode by associated bacteria debris, realizing comprehensive utilization of microorganism. By conceptualizing "functional vesicle-like" Se globules, rather than artificial Se-host composites, as cathode for lithium-selenium batteries, it exhibits outstanding cycling stability and improved rate performance. This strategy opens the door to design smart electrode materials with unattainable structure that cannot be achieved by traditional approaches, achieving eco-efficient conversion of pollutants into energy-storage nanomaterials, which will be a promising research field for interdisciplinary of energy, biology, and environment.

PURPOSE: To analyse the types of chairside CAD/CAM all-ceramic restorations and the color range of all-ceramic materials used so as to provide reference for the application of clinical chairside all-ceramic restoration and the color selection of all-ceramic materials. METHODS: IPS e.max CAD prostheses and related data were collected from January 2021 to December 2021 from the Department of Prosthodontics, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. The number and type of restorations and the color of materials were investigated and analyzed by descriptive statistics. RESULTS: A total of 1 374 restorations were included, of which 624 were crown restorations, accounting for 45.41% of the total restorations. 516 cases were veneer, accounting for 37.55%; 219 were inlays, accounting for 15.94%; fixed bridges were all adhesive bridges, with the least number with only 15 cases, accounting for 1.09%. In terms of the selection of restoration materials, the use rate of low-transparent(LT) ceramic blocks was significantly higher than that of other transparent ceramic blocks. A was the most frequently used ceramic color. The most frequently used porcelain blocks for veneers were LTA2 and LTA1; for inlay were LTA3; for crowns were LTA2 and LTA3. The blocks used in the fixed bridges were all LT, and A3 color was the majority. CONCLUSIONS: Chairside CAD/CAM all-ceramic prostheses made of IPS e.max CAD materials have been widely used in clinical practice. The types of prostheses include veneer, inset, crown and fixed bridge. The most commonly used IPS e.max CAD blocks are LTA2, LTA3 and LTA1. These findings have certain guiding significance for the clinical restoration decision and the reserve of porcelain blocks in primary hospitals.

Backgrounds and Aims: Patients with cirrhosis are susceptible to sepsis and septic shock. Cirrhotic patients also have increased capillary permeability and are prone to developing volume overload. Patients with septic shock may have an enhanced pulmonary vascular permeability index (PVPI) and extravascular lung water index (EVLWI), both of which are associated with an unfavorable prognosis. It is plausible that pre-existing hyperpermeability may deteriorate when cirrhotic patients develop septic shock. However, it remains unknown whether PVPI and EVLWI can predict the prognosis of cirrhotic patients with septic shock. Pulse Indicator Continuous Cardiac Output (PiCCO) is an established tool to measure PVPI and EVLWI. Therefore, we conducted this retrospective study to investigate the prognostic significance of PVPI and EVLWI in cirrhotic patients with septic shock using PiCCO monitoring. Methods: We included 83 patients with liver cirrhosis and septic shock. EVLW indexed to actual body weight (aEVLWI), EVLW indexed to predicted body weight (pEVLWI), PVPI, disease severity scores, and other biomarkers were analyzed. We collected the PiCCO data on the first 2 days. Results: The overall 28-day mortality was 43.4%. The values of PVPI, aEVLWI, and pEVLWI on day 2 (PVPID2, aEVLWID2, EVLWID2) were significantly higher in non-survivors. The discriminating power of PVPID2 and EVLWID2 to predict 28-day mortality was tested using the area under a ROC curve. The areas under ROC curves (mean ± SEM) were 0.713 ± 0.061 and 0.650 ± 0.063 for PVPID2 and pEVLWID2. In the multivariate analysis, PVPID2, bilirubin, and lactate were independent factors which predicted 28-day mortality. Conclusions: Higher levels of PVPID2 and pEVLWID2 are associated with higher 28-day mortality rates in cirrhotic patients with septic shock. PVPI and pEVLWI may be useful to guide fluid management in this clinical setting.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate changes in ultrafast pulse wave velocity (ufPWV) in individuals with arterial stiffness and subclinical atherosclerosis (subAS), and to provide cutoff values. METHODS: This retrospective study recruited 231 participants, including 67 patients with subAS. The pulse wave velocity was measured at the beginning and end of systole (PWV-BS and PWVES, respectively) using ultrafast ultrasonography to assess arterial stiffness. The right and left common carotid arteries were measured separately, and laboratory metabolic parameters were also collected. Participants were balanced between groups using propensity score matching (PSM) at a 1:1 ratio, adjusting for age, sex, and waist-to-hip ratio as potential confounders. Cutoff values of ufPWV for monitoring subAS were determined via receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. RESULTS: PWV-ES, unlike PWV-BS, was higher in the subAS subgroup than in the subAS-free group after PSM (all P<0.05). For each 1 m/s increase in left, right, and bilateral mean PWV-ES, the risk of subAS increased by 23% (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.04 to 1.46), 26% (95% CI, 1.07 to 1.52), and 38% (95% CI, 1.12 to 1.72), respectively. According to ROC analyses, predictive potential was found for left PWV-ES (cutoff value=7.910 m/s, P=0.002), right PWV-ES (cutoff value=6.615 m/s, P=0.003), and bilateral mean PWV-ES (cutoff value=7.415 m/s, P<0.001), but not for PWV-BS (all P>0.05). CONCLUSION: PWV-ES measured using ultrafast ultrasonography was significantly higher in individuals with subAS than in those without. Specific PWV-ES cutoff values showed potential for predicting an increased risk of subAS.

BACKGROUND: Portal hypertension affects hepatic, splanchnic and portosystemic collateral systems. Although alcohol is a well-known risk factor for liver cirrhosis, it also affects vascular contractility. However, the relevant effects on portal hypertension have not been evaluated in non-alcoholic cirrhosis. The present study aimed to investigate the impacts of low-dose alcohol on portal hypertension-related derangements in non-alcoholic cirrhotic rats. METHODS: Sprague-Dawley rats received bile duct ligation to induce cirrhosis or sham operation as controls. The chronic or acute effects of low-dose alcohol (2.4 g/kg/day, oral gavage, approximately 1.3 drinks/day in humans) were evaluated. RESULTS: The chronic administration of low-dose alcohol did not precipitate liver fibrosis in the sham or cirrhotic rats; however, it significantly increased splanchnic blood inflow (P=0.034) and portosystemic collaterals (P=0.001). Mesenteric angiogenesis and pro-angiogenic proteins were up-regulated in the alcohol-treated cirrhotic rats, and poorer collateral vasoresponsiveness to vasoconstrictors (P<0.001) was noted. Consistently, acute alcohol administration reduced splenorenal shunt resistance. Collateral vasoresponsiveness to vasoconstrictors also significantly decreased (P=0.003). CONCLUSIONS: In non-alcoholic cirrhosis rats, a single dose of alcohol adversely affected portosystemic collateral vessels due to vasodilatation. Long-term alcohol use precipitated splanchnic hyperdynamic circulation, in which mesenteric angiogenesis played a role. Further studies are warranted to evaluate the benefits of avoiding low-dose alcohol consumption in patients with non-alcoholic cirrhosis.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to examine determinants of undernutrition among children under 2 years of age. DESIGN AND METHODS: A matched case-control study design was conducted to recruit 300 mothers comprising 100 mothers with an undernourished child (case group) and 200 mothers with a healthy child (control group). Measurements consisted of demographic characteristics of children data, mother's data, household data, mother's knowledge of child undernutrition, mother's knowledge of nutrition, complementary feeding practices, and undernutrition parameters of the children. A conditional logistic regression was used to identify determinants of undernutrition. The risk of undernutrition was estimated by odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Statistical significance was defined as any p value of <.05. RESULTS: Findings showed that mother's knowledge of undernutrition (AOR: 0.95; 95% CI: 0.91-0.98), mother's knowledge of nutrition (AOR: 0.90; 95% CI: 0.85-0.96), and mother's knowledge (AOR: 0.78; 95% CI: 0.67-0.91) and behavior of complementary feeding practices (AOR: 0.97; 95% CI: 0.94-0.99) were significant determinants of undernutrition (p < .05). PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: Mothers with high scores on knowledge of undernutrition, knowledge of nutrition, and knowledge and behaviors of complementary feeding practices would benefit the children under 2 years to reduce the risk of undernutrition. Healthcare professionals (i.e., pediatric nurses and community health nurses) should provide early assessment of knowledge related to undernutrition, nutrition, and complementary feeding practices for mothers with children under 2 years.

The research on the correlation or causality between gut microbiota and the occurrence, development, and treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC) is receiving increasing emphasis. At the same time, the incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer vary among individuals and regions, as does the gut microbiota. In order to gain a better understanding of the characteristics of the gut microbiota in CRC patients and the differences between different regions, we initially compared the gut microbiota of 25 CRC patients and 26 healthy controls in the central region of China (Hubei Province) using 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing technology. The results showed that Corynebacterium, Enterococcus, Lactobacillus, and Escherichia-Shigella were significantly enriched in CRC patients. In addition, we also compared the potential differences in functional pathways between the CRC group and the healthy control group using PICRUSt's functional prediction analysis. We then analyzed and compared it with five cohort studies from various regions of China, including Central, East, and Northeast China. We found that geographical factors may affect the composition of intestinal microbiota in CRC patients. The composition of intestinal microbiota is crucial information that influences colorectal cancer screening, early detection, and the prediction of CRC treatment outcomes. This emphasizes the importance of conducting research on CRC-related gut microbiota in various regions of China.

Background: As an autoimmune disease, antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) often affects multiple organs, including the ocular system. This study aims to investigate differences in retinal thickness (RT) and retinal superficial vascular density (SVD) between patients with AAV and healthy controls (HCs) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). Currently, these differences are not clear. Methods: A total of 16 AAV individuals (32 eyes) and 16 HCs (32 eyes) were recruited to this cross-sectional study conducted in the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from June 2023 to September 2023. The study protocol conformed with the tenets of the Declaration of Helsinki (as revised in 2013). Each image observed by OCTA was divided into 9 regions using the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) subzones as a guide. Results: In the full layer, the RT of AAV patients was found to be significantly reduced in the inner superior (IS, P<0.001), outer superior (OS, P=0.003), inner temporal (IT, P=0.003), and outer temporal (OT, P<0.001) regions; inner RT was significantly lower in the IS (P=0.006), OS (P<0.001), inner nasal (IN, P=0.005), outer nasal (ON, P<0.001), and center (C, P=0.01) regions than that in HCs. Outer RT of AAV patients showed a reduction in the IS (P<0.001), as well as IT (P=0.008), and OT (P<0.001) regions. No statistically significant differences were seen in the different subregions in other different layers (P>0.05). Only the inner inferior (II) and outer inferior (OI) regions of SVD in AAV patients did not differ significantly from controls. All other regions showed a reduction in SVD. The details are as follows: IS (P<0.001), OS (P<0.001), IT (P=0.005), OT (P<0.001), IN (P<0.001), ON (P<0.001), and C (P=0.003). According to receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, the full IS region [area under the curve (AUC): 0.8892, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.8041-0.9742, P<0.001] had the highest diagnostic value for AAV-induced reduction in RT. The IS (AUC: 0.9121, 95% CI: 0.8322-0.9920, P<0.001) region was also the most sensitive to changes in SVD of AAV individuals. In addition, we found that SVD in the IN region (r=-0.4224, 95% CI: -0.6779 to -0.0757, P=0.02) as well as mean visual acuity (r=-0.3922, 95% CI: -0.6579 to -0.0397, P=0.03) of AAV patients were negatively correlated with disease duration. However, we did not find an association between SVD and RT in this study. Conclusions: The findings from OCTA indicated a reduction in RT and SVD among patients with AAV. OCTA allows for the evaluation of AAV-related ocular lesions and holds promise for monitoring of disease progression through regular evaluations.

Two rare 8-hydroxysteroid glycosides (6-7), and their downstream metabolites (1-5) with an unprecedented 6/6/5/5/5-pentacyclic scaffold, together with seven known analogues (8-14) were isolated from the twigs and leaves of Strophanthus divaricatus. Their structures were fully assigned by analysis of the spectroscopic and ECD data, NMR calculations, X-ray crystallographic study, and chemical methods. In addition, the inhibitory effects of 1-14 on liver and lung cancer cell lines were evaluated, and preliminary structure-activity relationship was discussed. Data-independent acquisition (DIA)-based quantitative proteomic analysis and biological verification of H1299 cells suggested that this family of compounds may play an anticancer role by suppressing both DNA damage response (DDR) and mTOR/S6K signaling pathways.

Background: Although numerous studies have illustrated the connection between gut microbiota and endometriosis, a conspicuous gap exists in research focusing on the pathogenesis of endometriosis at various sites and its linkage with infertility. Methods: In this study, we used a two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis to investigate the effect of gut microbiota on the development of endometriosis in different regions, including the uterus, ovary, fallopian tube, pelvic peritoneum, vagina, and rectovaginal septum, as well as the intestine. Additionally, we explored the correlation between gut microbiota and endometriosis-induced infertility. Genetic associations with gut microbes were obtained from genome-wide association study (GWAS) datasets provided by the MiBioGen consortium, whereas endometriosis-related GWAS data were sourced from the FinnGen dataset. In our analysis, single-nucleotide polymorphisms were used as instrumental variables, with the primary estimation of the causal effect performed via the inverse variance weighting method. Our sensitivity analyses incorporated heterogeneity tests, pleiotropy tests, and the leave-one-out method. Results: We identified associations at the genus level between four bacterial communities and endometriosis. Subsequently, several associations between the gut microbiota and various subtypes of endometriosis at different anatomical sites were recognized. Specifically, three genera were linked with ovarian endometriosis, six genera were associated with tubal endometriosis, four genera showed links with pelvic peritoneum endometriosis, five genera were connected with vaginal and rectovaginal septum endometriosis, and seven genera demonstrated linkages with intestinal endometriosis. Additionally, one genus was associated with adenomyosis, and three genera exhibited associations with endometriosis-induced infertility. Conclusion: Our study elucidates associations between gut microbiota and site-specific endometriosis, thereby augmenting our understanding of the pathophysiology of endometriosis. Moreover, our findings pave the way for potential therapeutic strategies targeting gut microbiota for individuals grappling with endometriosis-related infertility.
