OBJECTIVE: To describe and analyze auditory and academic complaints of students and employees of a federal public university. METHODS: The study was carried out using a non-probabilistic. The EAPAC Scale with adaptations was used to fulfill the research objectives. It has 14 questions about complaints related to listening skills and 12 questions related to the academic environment. Descriptive data analysis was performed through the frequency distribution of categorical variables and Pearson's chi-square test was used for association analyses. RESULTS: 646 individuals aged between 17 and 67 years old participated in the research. The most prevalent complaints were academic difficulty related to memory, concentration, and planning, hearing and understanding speech in noise, and memorization of tasks that were only heard. There was an association with bidirectional statistical significance between academic and auditory complaints. CONCLUSION: It was possible to observe that there is an association between auditory and academic complaints in adults, marked by the relationship between cognitive and auditory aspects. It is relevant that these factors are considered when performing assessments of Central Auditory Processing when intervening in patients with auditory complaints, and in student life.

RESULTADOS: Participaram da pesquisa 646 indivíduos com faixa etária entre 17 e 67 anos. As queixas mais prevalentes foram: dificuldade acadêmica relacionada à memória, concentração e planejamento, ouvir e compreender a fala no ruído, e memorização de tarefas que foram apenas ouvidas. Houve associação com significância estatística bidirecional entre as queixas acadêmicas e auditivas. CONCLUSÃO: Foi possível observar que há associação entre queixas auditivas e acadêmicas em adultos, marcada pela relação de aspectos cognitivos com aspectos auditivos. É relevante que esses fatores sejam considerados ao realizar avaliações do Processamento Auditivo Central, ao se intervir em pacientes com queixas auditivas, e na vida estudantil.

Urinary incontinence due to urethral sphincter mechanism incompetence (USMI) affects up to 20% of bitches that undergo spaying surgery. Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant whose urinary retention is a reported side effect. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of amitriptyline when compared to estriol orally. Fifteen bitches with a clinical diagnosis of post-spaying UI were evaluated during 60 days in a non-blinded randomized clinical trial. All patients were enrolled after clinical evaluation consisting of anamnesis, physical examination, and complementary exams (complete blood count, biochemical parameters, urinalysis, and abdominal ultrasound). The amitriptyline (AMT) group consisted of 8 bitches, which received the initial dose of 1 mg/kg every 12 h, whereas the estriol (EST) group consisted of 7 bitches which were initially treated with 1 mg/animal every 24 h. Patients underwent clinical evaluation at 7 days, and then at 21 and 60 days of treatment to assess safety and efficacy, as well as adjustments of dose when necessary. A urinary incontinence scale was used to assess the level of incontinence and therapeutic response to treatment. During the period of the study, estriol was fully effective in 71% of cases and amitriptyline in 62%. Both drugs proved safe in the medical treatment of USMI, with adverse effects such as somnolence (AMT, n = 5/8) and male attraction (EST, n = 1/7). The results support the amitriptyline recommendation as a substitute for estriol in USMI treatment.

Resumo Objetivo Compreender o significado da dor pélvica crônica sob a ótica das mulheres diagnosticadas e analisar os fatores determinantes para a alta ambulatorial. Métodos Pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, tendo como referencial teórico metodológico a Pesquisa Social do tipo Estratégica. Participaram do estudo 14 mulheres, sendo sete em seguimento ambulatorial e sete que receberam alta, no ambulatório de ginecologia de um hospital universitário no município de Goiânia, Goiás, Brasil. Foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas, com questões norteadoras. A análise dos resultados baseou-se na modalidade temática da análise de conteúdo, segundo Bardin. Resultados A análise dos dados culminou em três categorias temáticas: "Antes da dor", "Convivendo com a dor" e " Tratando a dor". O abandono afetivo parental, o luto, o desentendimento com os pais e dificuldades na infância foram proeminentes antes do início da dor. O surgimento da dor relacionou-se ao nascimento dos filhos, menarca, cirurgias e conflitos familiares. A convivência com a dor promoveu grande sofrimento, medo, prejuízo aos relacionamentos e à atividade laboral. A melhora do estado emocional e das condições financeiras, a resolução dos conflitos matrimoniais, a oportunidade de poder expressar-se e conversar com outras pacientes, o uso de medicamentos e alguns procedimentos cirúrgicos foram determinantes para o controle da dor e da alta ambulatorial. Conclusão A dor pélvica crônica relacionou-se a sofrimentos socioeconômicos, emocionais e físicos. A resolução destes aspectos contribuíram para a alta ambulatorial.


Resumen Objetivo Comprender el significado del dolor pélvico crónico bajo la perspectiva de mujeres diagnosticadas y analizar los factores determinantes para el alta ambulatoria. Métodos Investigación de naturaleza cualitativa, que utilizó el marco referencial teórico metodológico de la investigación social estratégica. Participaron en el estudio 14 mujeres, de las cuales siete estaban realizando seguimiento ambulatorio y siete fueron dadas de alta, en consultorios externos de ginecología de un hospital universitario en el municipio de Goiânia, Goiás, Brasil. Se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas, con preguntas orientadoras. El análisis de los resultados se basó en la modalidad temática del análisis de contenido, de acuerdo con Bardin. Resultados El análisis de los datos culminó en tres categorías temáticas: Antes del dolor, Convivir con el dolor y Tratar el dolor. El abandono afectivo parental, el duelo, falta de entendimiento con los padres y dificultades en la infancia fueron prominentes antes del inicio del dolor. El surgimiento del dolor se relacionó con el nacimiento de los hijos, menarca, cirugías y conflictos familiares. La convivencia con el dolor causó gran sufrimiento, miedo, perjuicio en las relaciones y en la actividad laboral. La mejora del estado emocional y de las condiciones financieras, la resolución de los conflictos matrimoniales, la oportunidad de poder expresarse y hablar con otras pacientes, el uso de medicamentos y algunos procedimientos quirúrgicos fueron determinantes para el control del dolor y el alta ambulatoria. Conclusión El dolor pélvico crónico se relacionó con el sufrimiento socioeconómico, emocional y físico. La resolución de estos aspectos contribuyó al alta ambulatoria.


Abstract Objective To understand the meaning of chronic pelvic pain from the perspective of diagnosed women and analyze the determining factors for outpatient discharge. Methods This is qualitative research, using strategic social research as its theoretical methodological framework. 14 women participated in the study, seven of whom were undergoing outpatient follow-up and seven who were discharged from the gynecology outpatient clinic of a university hospital in the city of Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with guiding questions. The analysis of results was based on the thematic modality of content analysis, according to Bardin. Results Data analysis culminated in three thematic categories: "Before the pain", "Living with the pain" and "Treating the pain". Parental emotional abandonment, grief, disagreement with parents and childhood difficulties were prominent before the onset of pain. The onset of pain was related to the birth of children, menarche, surgeries and family conflicts. Living with pain promoted great suffering, fear, harm to relationships and work activity. The improvement in emotional state and financial conditions, the resolution of marital conflicts, the opportunity to express oneself and talk to other patients, the use of medication and some surgical procedures were decisive for pain control and outpatient discharge. Conclusion Chronic pelvic pain was related to socioeconomic, emotional and physical suffering. The resolution of these aspects contributed to outpatient discharge.

BACKGROUND: Few studies have evaluated the effects of structured early mobilization (EM) protocols on the level of mobilization in critical care patients. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of a structured EM protocol on the level of mobilization, muscle strength, and the level of activities of daily living (LADL) after intensive care unit (ICU) and hospital discharge. METHODS: This randomized clinical trial (U1111-1245-4840) included adults patients who were randomized into two groups: intervention (n = 40) and control (n = 45). The intervention group underwent conventional physiotherapy and structured EM protocols, and the control group underwent conventional physiotherapy. The level of mobilization from 0 (no mobilization) to 5 (walking), muscle strength (Medical Research Council scale), LADL (Katz Index), and incidence of complications were evaluated. RESULTS: The level of mobilization from day 1 to day 7 increased in the intervention group compared with the control group (p < .05). Muscle strength did not change during the protocol in the intervention and control groups {day 1 [effect size (r) = 0.15, p = .161], at ICU discharge [r = 0.16, p = .145], and after ICU discharge [r = 0.16, p = .191]}. The LADL did not differ between the intervention and control groups after ICU discharge [4 (1-6) vs. 3 (1-5), p = .702] or 30 days after hospital discharge [6 (5-6) vs. 6 (5-6), p = .945]. The structured EM protocol was safe, and no severe complications were observed during the protocol. CONCLUSION: A structured EM protocol increased the level of mobilization without improving muscle strength and the LADL compared with conventional physiotherapy.

BACKGROUND: Patients with end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis have postural balance impairments due to uremic syndrome and hemodialysis complications. This study evaluated the factors associated with postural balance in patients on hemodialysis. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included patients on hemodialysis [n = 93, 62.0 (16.0) years]. Postural balance was evaluated using a force plate in a static position with eyes opened and eyes closed on a firm surface and with eyes opened on a foam surface to register the center of pressure path length. Physical function was assessed by isometric handgrip force, the 5-repetition sit-to-stand test, and gait speed. The level of physical activity and quality of life were evaluated by accelerometry and the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey, respectively. FINDINGS: After adjustment for potential confounders, the multiple linear regression analysis showed that the presence of diabetes mellitus and neurological disease and gait speed were significantly associated with the center of pressure path length in the eyes opened test (R2 = 0.263; p < 0.001). The center of pressure path length in the eyes closed test was significantly associated with the presence of neurological disease (R2 = 0.177; p = 0.002). The center of pressure path length in the eyes opened on a foam surface test was significantly associated with the presence of diabetes mellitus (R2 = 0.223; p < 0.001). INTERPRETATION: Poor postural balance was associated with the presence of diabetes mellitus and neurological disease and a slower gait speed in patients on hemodialysis.

INTRODUCTION: Hemodialysis patients have complications that increase fear of falling (FOF). This study evaluated the association between FOF and a retrospective history of falls in hemodialysis patients and investigated the ability of the Fall Efficacy Scale-International (FES-I) to discriminate fallers from nonfallers. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted with 183 patients to investigate the history of falls in the last 12 months and to evaluate FOF by the FES-I. RESULTS: The univariate linear regression model showed that the FES-I score was significantly associated with a history of falls (p = 0.01). After adjustment for potential confounders, this association remained significant (R2  = 0.19, p < 0.001). The FES-I score showed an area under the curve of 0.660 with a cutoff point of 25 (sensitivity-61.8%; specificity-62.2%). CONCLUSION: FOF was associated with a history of falls in the 12-month period in hemodialysis patients, and FOF assessed by the FES-I was able to discriminate fallers from nonfallers.

Resumo O convívio em moradia estudantil revela desafios nas relações entre seus moradores e destes com o espaço que, então, habitam. O objetivo deste artigo foi o de apresentar os principais desafios de ser morador nesse contexto, compreendendo as sociabilidades e as relações com o lugar. Este estudo constitui-se, a partir de uma abordagem qualitativa, em uma pesquisa de intervenção participativa, com observação participante e entrevistas semiestruturadas. Os sujeitos da pesquisa apontaram a moradia como espaço que amplia a qualidade de vida e viabiliza laços de amizade, permitindo-lhes apropriar-se do lugar como lar. É na dimensão das sociabilidades que, comumente, encontram-se desafios como negociar rotinas, privacidade e organização do espaço e convivência com diferenças culturais, o que resulta situações de conflito. É relevante conhecer caminhos que contribuam para ações coletivas, formação de redes de apoio e mediações frente situações de vulnerabilidade e conflitos.


Resumen Vivir en viviendas para estudiantes revela desafíos en las relaciones entre sus residentes y entre ellos y el espacio que habitan. El objetivo de este artículo fue presentar los principales desafíos de ser residente en este contexto, comprendiendo las sociabilidades y las relaciones con el lugar. Este estudio se constituye, desde un enfoque cualitativo, en una investigación de intervención participativa, con observación participante y entrevistas semiestructuradas. Los sujetos de investigación señalaron que la vivienda como un espacio que potencia la calidad de vida y posibilita lazos de amistad, permitiéndoles apropiarse del lugar como hogar. Es en la dimensión de la sociabilidad donde comúnmente se encuentran desafíos, como las negociación de rutinas, la privacidad y la organización del espacio y la convivencia con las diferencias culturales, lo que resulta en situaciones de conflicto. Es importante conocer formas que contribuyan a acciones colectivas, formación de redes de apoyo y mediación en situaciones de vulnerabilidad y conflictos.


Abstract Living in student housing reveals challenges in the relationships between residents, as well as their interactions with the space they inhabit. The aim of this article was to present the main challenges of being a resident in this context, understanding the sociability and relationships with the place. This study is constituted, from a qualitative approach, in a participatory intervention research, with participant observation and semi-structured interviews. The research subjects indicated housing as a space that enhances the quality of life and enables bonds of friendship, allowing them to appropriate the place as a home. It is in the dimension of sociability that challenges commonly found, such as negotiating routines, privacy and organization of space and coexistence with cultural differences, which results in situations of conflict. It is important to know ways that contribute to collective actions, formation of support networks, and mediation in situations of vulnerability and conflict.

BACKGROUND: Mobility is human body movement in all its forms, including bed-to-chair transfer, walking, daily tasks, participating in work and social functions, exercising, and using public transport. The mobility of people living with COPD is affected negatively by the disease symptoms. However, limited data are available on the life-space mobility in people with COPD on long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT). This study aimed to explore the life-space mobility in subjects with COPD on LTOT and verify whether life-space mobility is associated with comorbidities and symptoms, activity in daily life, exercise capacity performance, and quality of life. METHODS: This cross-sectional study enrolled 61 subjects with COPD on LTOT (73.0 ± 8.8 y, FEV1 41.7 ± 16.0% predicted, on LTOT for 2.8 ± 3.3 y). Life-space mobility (Life-Space Assessment), LTOT usage time, comorbidities (Charlson comorbidity index), need for support from a caregiver, exercise capacity (6-min step test), dyspnea (modified Medical Research Council scale), activities of daily living (ADLs, Katz scale), and health-related quality of life (EuroQol 5-Dimension Questionnaire) were assessed. RESULTS: Mobility restriction was identified in 90% of participants. Life-space mobility was negatively associated with the number of comorbidities (rs = -0.31, P = .02), dyspnea symptom (rs = -0.60, P < .001), and positively associated with basic ADLs performance (rs = 0.59, P < .001) and exercise capacity (rs = 0.49, P < .001). Dyspnea and exercise capacity were independent predictors of vital space mobility. CONCLUSIONS: Subjects with COPD on LTOT had limited life-space mobility. Interventions to reduce dyspnea and improve exercise capacity should be prioritized to increase this population's domestic and community mobility.

Objetivo: analisar os fatores associados a candidíase vaginal em gestantes. Método: Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa de literatura realizado na PubMed. Utilizou-se os descritores: "pregnant women", pregnancy, candidiasis, "candidiasis, vulvovaginal". Foram selecionados ao final 07 estudos e o período de busca aconteceu entre os meses de novembro a dezembro de 2021. Resultados: a candidíase vulvovaginal teve uma média da prevalência geral de candidíase foi de 51,71% dos casos mencionados nos estudos. Dentre as manifestações clínicas da candidíase, destaca-se o corrimento alterado, prurido intenso, disúria, irritação ou queimação e dor pélvica Conclusão: A Candida albicans foi a cepa de levedura mais frequentemente identificada, mas, outras espécies também foram descritas, como a C. krusei, C.glabrata, Candida parapsilosis e C. tropicalis. A candidiasé não é letal, mas os sintomas podem definir o diagnóstico clínico da candidíase, na gestação o diagnóstico precoce norteia o tratamento eficiente e contribui para a melhora do prognóstico da gestante.(AU)


Objective: to analyze the factors associated with vaginal candidiasis in pregnant women. Method: This is an integrative literature review carried out at PubMed. The descriptors were used: "pregnant women", pregnancy, candidiasis, "candidiasis, vulvovaginal". At the end, 07 studies were selected and the search period took place between the months of November and December 2021. Results: vulvovaginal candidiasis had an average general prevalence of candidiasis of 51.71% of the cases mentioned in the studies. Among the clinical manifestations of candidiasis, there is an altered discharge, intense itching, dysuria, irritation or burning and pelvic pain. Conclusion: Candida albicans was the most frequently identified yeast strain, but other species were also described, such as C krusei, C. glabrata, Candida parapsilosis and C. tropicalis. Candidiasis is not lethal, but the symptoms can define the clinical diagnosis of candidiasis, in pregnancy, early diagnosis guides efficient treatment and contributes to improving the prognosis of the pregnant woman.(AU)

Se infiere que la VVC no es letal, pero los síntomas pueden definir el diagnóstico clínico de candidiasis, en el embarazo, el diagnóstico precoz orienta un tratamiento eficaz y contribuye a mejorar el pronósticode la gestante.(AU)

BACKGROUND: The influence of physical function of individuals on long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT) on caregiver burden is underexplored. This study investigated the association of caregiver burden with physical function of individuals on LTOT and the association between caregiver's burden and quality of life. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study. Informal caregivers were assessed for burden using the Caregiver Burden Inventory (CBI), the European Quality of Life 5 Dimension questionnaire index (EQ-5D index) and its Visual Analog Scale (EQ-VAS). Physical function of subjects on LTOT was assessed by dyspnea, activities of daily living (ADLs), and mobility. Univariate and multivariate linear regression models were explored. RESULTS: Fifty-four caregivers (54.7 ± 16.1 y, 74.1% female) were included. CBI total score was correlated with subject's dyspnea (r = 0.369, P = .006) and ADLs (r = 0.300, P = .03). In the multivariate regression models, subject's physical function limitation due to dyspnea explained 26.4% of the CBI total score variance (P = .005). In the CBI dimension analysis, the time-dependence caregiver burden was correlated with subject's dyspnea (r = 0.335, P = .01), ADLs (r = 0.436, P = .001), and mobility (r = -0.415, P = .002). CBI developmental and physical caregiver burden were correlated with dyspnea (r = 0.309, P = .02; r = 0.363, P = .007) and ADLs (r = 0.274, P = .045; r = 0.299, P = .03). Emotional caregiver burden was correlated with dyspnea (r = 0.333, P = .01). Higher CBI total score was correlated with worse quality of life on EQ-5D index (rs= -0.374, P = .005) and EQ-VAS (rs= -0.494, P = .001) in caregivers. CONCLUSIONS: Increased caregiver burden was associated with higher physical limitation due to dyspnea and dependence in ADLs of individuals on LTOT. The increased burden was associated with a worse caregiver's quality of life.

BACKGROUND: Management strategies that incorporate spirituality and religiosity (S/R) have been associated with better health status in clinical populations. However, few data are available for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) to improve the traditional disease-model treatment. AIMS: The objectives of this study were to evaluate the association between S/R and physical and psychological status in patients with stable COPD. DESIGN: This is a cross-sectional study. METHODS: Religiosity, spiritual well-being and S/R Coping were measured. Physical status was evaluated with the activity of daily living, dyspnoea and the impact of the disease. Psychological status was assessed with anxiety and depression symptoms and quality of life. Spearman correlation coefficients were calculated, multivariate linear regression was applied in the analyses. This study is reported following the STROBE recommendations. RESULTS: Seventy-two patients with stable COPD (male 58%, aged 68 ± 9 years, forced expiratory volume in 1s (FEV1 ) of 49.2 ± 19.6% predicted) were included. There was no association between S/R and activity of daily living. However, higher spiritual well-being and lower Negative S/R Coping was associated with reduced dyspnoea and burden of the disease. Increased S/R and lower Negative S/R Coping was also associated with less anxiety, depression and better quality of life. Multivariate linear regression showed that S/R variables explained the physical and psychological health status in people with stable COPD. CONCLUSIONS: Higher spirituality and less negative S/R Coping are associated with reduced dyspnoea, the burden of the disease, anxiety and depression symptoms, and better quality of life in patients with stable COPD. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: Understanding how religiosity and spirituality are associated with physical and psychological features in patients with COPD may contribute to the long-term management of this patient population.

Este estudo teve como objetivo verificar a associação entre os recursos do ambiente familiar e a leitura de adolescentes. Participaram 106 adolescentes, de ambos os sexos, de 11 a 16 anos, sem queixas de dificuldades de aprendizagem. Para a coleta de dados utilizou-se um texto narrativo, o questionário de múltipla escolha sobre o texto e o de Recursos do Ambiente Familiar, adaptado. Foi realizada a análise descritiva e inferencial por meio dos testes correlação de Spearman, Mann-Whitney e Kruskal Wallis, com nível de significância de 5%. Os recursos que promovem os processos proximais e as práticas parentais contribuíram para um melhor desempenho de leitura. Em contrapartida, a categoria de atividades previsíveis contribuiu negativamente. Assim, o ambiente e os recursos influenciaram o desempenho leitor dos adolescentes. Conclui-se que é importante a elaboração de medidas escolares e de políticas públicas, para fortalecer a relação família-escola, ampliar os recursos familiares e tornar o ambiente favorável ao ensino.

Para la recopilación de datos se utilizó un texto narrativo, el cuestionario de múltiple elección sobre el texto y el de Recursos del Ambiente Familiar, adaptado. Se realizó el análisis descriptivo e inferencial por intermedio de las pruebas correlación de Spearman, Mann-Whitney y Kruskal Wallis, con nivel de significancia del 5%. Los recursos que promueven los procesos proximales y las prácticas parentales contribuyeron al mejor rendimiento de lectura. Por otro lado, la categoría de actividades previsibles contribuyó negativamente. Así, el ambiente y los recursos influenciaron el rendimiento lector de los adolescentes. Se concluye que es importante la elaboración de medidas escolares y de políticas públicas, para fortalecer la relación familia-escuela, ampliar los recursos familiares y tornar el ambiente favorable a la enseñanza.


This study aimed to verify the association between the resources of the family environment and teenage reading. A total of 106 adolescents of both sexes, aged between 11 and 16 years, without learning difficulties, participated in the study. For data collection, a narrative text, a multiple-choice questionnaire about the text and an adapted Family Environment Resources questionnaire were used. Descriptive and inferential analysis was performed using Spearman, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal Wallis correlation tests, with a significance level of 5%. Resources that promote proximal processes and parenting practices contributed to better reading performance. In contrast, the predictable activities category contributed negatively. Thus, the environment and resources influenced the adolescents' reading performance. It is concluded that the elaboration of school measures and public policies is important to strengthen the family-school relationship, expand family resources and make the environment favorable to teaching.

RESUMO Objetivo caracterizar o desempenho de adolescentes em consciência fonêmica e verificar a associação entre essa habilidade e a leitura de palavras. Métodos participaram do estudo 83 adolescentes, sendo 58 do gênero feminino e 25 do gênero masculino, com idades entre 11 e 16 anos, matriculados do 6º ao 9º ano do ensino fundamental II de duas escolas públicas de Belo Horizonte. Foram aplicados testes de consciência fonêmica e a prova de leitura de palavras e pseudopalavras. Resultados os adolescentes apresentaram maior dificuldade em realizar a tarefa de segmentação fonêmica. Em contrapartida, na execução das tarefas de subtração de consoante/vogal/consoante e inversão, houve efeito teto. Observou-se correlação positiva entre as tarefas da consciência fonêmica e a leitura de palavras e pseudopalavras. Conclusão O desenvolvimento da consciência fonológica ainda é necessário na adolescência e, além disso, se pode dizer que o desenvolvimento dessa habilidade contribui de forma significativa para o bom desempenho da leitura no ensino fundamental II


ABSTRACT Purpose To ascertain the performance of adolescent's phonemic awareness and corroborate the association between this skill and reading. Methods Eighty-three adolescents participated in the study consisting of 58 girls and 25 boys aged between 11 and 16 years of age all being enrolled in the 6th to 9th grades of secondary elementary school in two public schools in Belo Horizonte. Phonemic awareness tests and word and pseudoword reading test were carried out. Results Adolescents had difficulty in performing the phonemic segmentation task, on the other hand when performing the CVC subtraction and inversion tasks there was a ceiling effect. A positive correlation was found between the phonemic awareness tasks and the reading of words and pseudowords. Conclusion This study concluded that the development of phonological awareness is still necessary in adolescence, i.e. the development of this skill contributes significantly to good reading performance at secondary elementary school level.

RESUMO Objetivo Caracterizar o processamento fonológico em adolescentes e identificar habilidades linguísticas e funções cognitivas que o influenciam nessa faixa etária. Método Participaram 83 adolescentes típicos de 11 a 16 anos. Utilizaram-se os testes de consciência fonológica, nomeação automática rápida, avaliação neuropsicológica e leitura. Foi realizada a análise descritiva e a regressão linear com nível de significância de 5%. Resultados Em relação ao processamento fonológico, observou-se menor desempenho na tarefa de segmentação fonêmica, maior tempo de nomeação de objetos e desempenho dentro do esperado para a idade em memória operacional. Verificou-se associação recíproca entre nomeação rápida de objetos, de letras e memória operacional, entre nomeação rápida de letras e consciência fonológica. As funções executivas e a atenção influenciaram a memória operacional e a consciência fonológica. A memória verbal episódica semântica influenciou a memória operacional e, a leitura, a consciência fonológica. Conclusão O desempenho no processamento fonológico foi influenciado por habilidades linguísticas e cognitivas e sugere ainda estar em aprimoramento na adolescência.

RESUMO Objetivo validar um questionário autorreferido para avaliação do processamento auditivo central para adultos. Métodos o instrumento foi testado e validado com 123 estudantes universitários de 18 a 59 anos, sem alteração auditiva e sem histórico de tratamento para transtorno do processamento auditivo central. Os participantes realizaram os testes Gaps in Noise e Fala com Ruído. Por meio da análise estatística, foi definido o ponto de corte para alterações, a sensibilidade e a especificidade. Resultados o instrumento foi elaborado contendo 21 questões relacionadas ao histórico de saúde, aos hábitos de vida, às queixas auditivas e de aprendizagem. Após a análise fatorial, as questões relacionadas ao hábito de vida e condições de saúde foram retiradas por apresentarem carga fatorial baixa. Assim, a versão final da escala foi composta por 13 questões. Os constructos de primeira ordem e o indicador diagnóstico apresentaram níveis de confiabilidade exigidos. Foram definidos os pontos de corte 6 e 5 que indicassem alteração nos testes Gaps in Noise e Fala com Ruído branco, respectivamente. Conclusão a escala apresentou resultados válidos, confiáveis e consistentes e foi capaz de realizar inferências sobre o processamento auditivo.


ABSTRACT Purpose To validate a self-report questionnaire to assess the central auditory processing in adults. Methods The instrument was tested and validated with 123 university students aged 18 to 59 years, without hearing changes or history of treatment for central auditory processing disorder. The participants were submitted to the Gaps-in-Noise and speech-in-white-noise tests. The cutoff scores for changes, sensitivity, and specificity were defined with statistical analysis. Results The instrument was developed with 21 questions related to health history, life habits, and hearing and learning complaints. After factor analysis, the questions related to life habits and health conditions were removed because they had a low factor loading. Thus, the final version of the scale comprised 13 questions. The first-order constructs and the diagnostic indicator achieved the required levels of reliability. The cutoff scores to indicate abnormal results in the Gaps-in- Noise and speech-in-white-noise tests were defined respectively as 6 and 5. Conclusion The scale obtained valid, reliable, and consistent results and enabled professionals to make inferences about auditory processing.

Introdução: A pandemia da doença por coronavírus 19 (COVID-19) contribui para a exacerbação do estresse e sofrimento dos profissionais de saúde. Objetivo: Avaliar a relação entre o medo da COVID-19 e a sobrecarga física e mental dos profissionais de saúde em atendimento contínuo de pacientes durante a pandemia de COVID-19 em duas cidades da região do Campo das Vertentes no estado de Minas Gerais. Material e Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo descritivo transversal com 77 profissionais de saúde (32 (14) anos; 67,5% do gênero feminino) que estavam em atendimento contínuo durante a pandemia de COVID-19. Dados sociodemográficos e profissionais foram coletados e o medo foi avaliado pela Escala de Medo da COVID-19 (EMC-19), sintomas depressivos pelo Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) e síndrome de Burnout pelo Maslach Burnout Inventory ­ Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS). Resultados: O escore total da EMC-19 se correlacionou com a carga horária de trabalho semanal (ρ= 0,395; p<0,001), o PHQ-9 (ρ= 0,332; p= 0,003) e as dimensões exaustão emocional (ρ= 0,253; p= 0,026), despersonalização (ρ= 0,243; p= 0,033) e baixa realização pessoal (ρ= -0,389; p<0,001) do MBI-HSS. No modelo de regressão linear ajustado para potenciais fatores confundidores, a EMC-19 continuou significativamente associada com a baixa realização pessoal apresentando coeficiente de determinação ajustado de 0,372 (p<0,001). Conclusão: O medo da COVID-19 nos profissionais de saúde em atendimento contínuo de pacientes durante a pandemia de COVID-19 nas duas cidades da região do Campo das Vertentes no estado de Minas Gerais se relacionou com sintomas depressivos e as características da síndrome de Burnout de exaustão emocional, despersonalização e baixa realização pessoal.


Introduction: The coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic contributes to the exacerbation of stress and suffering of health professionals. Objective: To evaluate the relationship between fear of COVID-19 and physical and mental burden of health professionals in the continuous care of patients during COVID-19 pandemic in two cities in the Campo das Vertentes region in the state of Minas Gerais. Material and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out with 77 health professionals (32 (14) years; 67.5% female) who were in continuous care during COVID-19 pandemic. Sociodemographic and professional data were collected and the fear of COVID-19 was taken from the Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S), depressive symptoms by the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and Burnout syndrome by the Maslach Burnout Inventory ­ Human Services Research (MBI-HSS). Results: The total score of FCV-19S correlated with the weekly workload (ρ= 0.395; p<0.001), the PHQ-9 (ρ= 0.332; p= 0.003) and the emotional exhaustion (ρ= 0.253; p= 0.026), depersonalization (ρ= 0.243; p= 0.033) and low sense of personal accomplishment (ρ= -0.389; p<0.001) dimensions of the MBI-HSS. In the linear regression model adjusted for potential confounders, the FCV-19S continued significantly associated with low sense of personal accomplishment and presented adjusted coefficient of determination of 0.372 (p<0.001). Conclusion: The fear of COVID-19 of health professionals in the continuous care of patients during COVID-19 pandemic in two cities in the Campo das Vertentes region in the state of Minas Gerais was related to depressive symptoms and as characteristics of the Burnout syndrome of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and with low sense of personal accomplishment.

Long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT) reduces hypoxaemia and mitigate systemic alterations in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), however, it is related to inactivity and social isolation. Social participation and its related factors remain underexplored in individuals on LTOT. This study investigated social participation in individuals with COPD on LTOT and its association with dyspnoea, exercise capacity, muscle strength, symptoms of anxiety and depression, and quality of life. The Assessment of Life Habits (LIFE-H) assessed social participation. The modified Medical Research Council dyspnoea scale, the 6-Minute Step test (6MST) and handgrip dynamometry were used for assessments. In addition, participants responded to the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the Chronic Respiratory Questionnaire (CRQ). Correlation coefficients and multivariate linear regression analyses were applied. Fifty-seven participants with moderate to very severe COPD on LTOT were included (71 ± 8 years, FEV1: 40 ± 17%predicted). Social participation was associated with dyspnoea (rs=-0.46, p < 0.01), exercise capacity (r = 0.32, p = 0.03) and muscle strength (r = 0.25, p = 0.05). Better participation was also associated with fewer depression symptoms (rs=-0.40, p < 0.01) and a better quality of life (r = 0.32, p = 0.01). Dyspnoea was an independent predictor of social participation (p < 0.01) on regression models. Restricted social participation is associated with increased dyspnoea, reduced muscle strength and exercise capacity. Better participation is associated with fewer depression symptoms and better quality of life in individuals with COPD on LTOT.
