RESUMEN

Background: Bronchopulmonary foregut malformation (BPFM) is an uncommon condition, with few case reports documented in both national and international literature. This scarcity underscores the importance of utilizing effective imaging techniques to improve our understanding and diagnostic precision concerning this disorder. Case description: In the first case report, a neonate, born at full term and aged 15 days, presented with symptoms including dyspnea, coughing, wheezing, cyanosis, and vomiting. Initial diagnostic evaluations, which included chest radiography and upper gastrointestinal tract radiography, led to an erroneous initial diagnosis of a left-sided diaphragmatic hernia, accompanied by a suspicion of infection. In the second case report, another neonate, also born at full term but aged 5 days, exhibited symptoms such as coughing, choking, and mild vomiting. Utilizing a combination of computed tomography (CT) scans (plain, enhanced, and reconstructed), chest x-ray, and upper gastrointestinal tract radiography, the diagnosis of BPFM was accurately determined. Conclusion: Comprehensive imaging examinations play a crucial role in reducing misdiagnosis and diagnostic oversights in cases of BPFM. Given its rarity, BPFM often manifests as a sequestered lung accompanied by gastrointestinal abnormalities. Hence, the integration of CT scans with gastrointestinal tract radiography can substantially improve diagnostic precision in such cases.

RESUMEN

Eco-friendly halide double perovskites are attracting significant attention as potential substitutes for traditional lead-based halide perovskites. However, their typically wide or indirect band gap limits further technological advancement. This study presents a new, eco-friendly, all-inorganic millimeter-scale CsCuAgI3 single crystal (SC). The crystal exhibits a direct band gap of 2.02 eV at the G-point, markedly superior to that of traditional double perovskites. The absorption and photoluminescence spectra further corroborate its band gap attributes. Owing to the B-site Cu-Ag disorder, the crystal possesses a higher Urbach energy (119 meV), indicative of structural disorder. CsCuAgI3 exhibits a wide Stokes shift of 230 nm, a wide full width at half-maximum (fwhm) of 152 nm, a long fluorescence lifetime of 7.29 µs, and excellent stability. In addition, a photoelectric detection prototype was prepared using a CsCuAgI3 single crystal. Using a 375 nm laser as the excitation source, the device showed a very sensitive photoelectric response, clocking in at (0.37/0.21) seconds. This work offers new insights into developing novel lead-free double perovskite single crystals and exploring their potential applications.

RESUMEN

Objective. For nonstationarity of neural recordings, daily retraining is required in the decoder calibration of intracortical brain-machine interfaces (iBMIs). Domain adaptation (DA) has started to be applied in iBMIs to solve the problem of daily retraining by taking advantage of historical data. However, previous DA studies used only a single source domain, which might lead to performance instability. In this study, we proposed a multi-source DA algorithm, by fully utilizing the historical data, to achieve a better and more robust decoding performance while reducing the decoder calibration time.Approach.The neural signals were recorded from two rhesus macaques using intracortical electrodes to decode the reaching and grasping movements. A principal component analysis (PCA)-based multi-source domain adaptation (PMDA) algorithm was proposed to apply the feature transfer to diminish the disparities between the target domain and each source domain. Moreover, the multiple weighted sub-classifiers based on multi-source domain data and small current sample set were constructed to accomplish the decoding.Main results. Our algorithm was able to make use of the multi-source domain data and achieve better and more robust decoding performance compared with other methods. Only a small current sample set was needed by our algorithm in order for the decoder calibration time to be effectively reduced.Significance.(1) The idea of the multi-source DA was introduced into the iBMIs to solve the problem of time consumption in the daily decoder retraining. (2) Instead of using only single-source domain data in the previous study, our algorithm made use of multi-day historical data, resulting in better and more robust decoding performance. (3) Our algorithm could be accomplished with only a small current sample set, and it can effectively reduce the decoder calibration time, which is important for further clinical applications.

RESUMEN

The efficient organic nonlinear optical material 4-hydroxy benzaldehyde-N-methyl 4-stilbazolium tosylate (HBST) was grown from methanol by slope nucleation method combined with slow cooling (SNM-SC) for the first time. The optimum growth conditions based on the cooling rate was further investigated. The single crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) revealed that the chromophores of HBST crystal make an angle of about 33° with respect to the a-axis, which is close to the optimum of Terahertz (THz)-wave generation and electro-optics applications. NMR and FT-IR spectral studies have been performed to ascertain various functional groups present in the sample. Futhermore, the thermal stability and decomposition stages were analyzed through TG-DTA and DSC techniques. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of HBST crystal have been studied. Critical optical properties like the absorption coefficient, refractive index, cut-off wavelength and band gap energy were calculated. Photoluminescence (PL) exication studies indicated green emission occured at 507nm. All the results of HBST crystal make it a promising candidate in the fields of optoelectronic and the generation of THz.

RESUMEN

KDP single crystals were grown in aqueous solution by using "point seeds" with a defined crystallographic direction of 59° to the Z axis. When hillock slopes on the (100) face of KDP crystals were measured within the supersaturation (σ) range of 0 < σ ≤ 0.06, the slope of hillocks with hollow cores depended nonlinearly on supersaturation. Below σ = 0.02, the hillock slope depended on supersaturation, but when σ was ≥ 0.02, the hillock slope increased more gradually and was less dependent on supersaturation. Hollow funnel-shaped growth dislocation on the (100) face of KDP crystals was observed at σ = 0.04, characterized by large holes with micro-steps and step bunching inside, the formation of which were analyzed. The result verified that the reversed growth appears to occur within hollow channels found on growth hillocks.

RESUMEN

High-efficiency frequency conversion into the deep ultraviolet in a partially deuterated ammonium dihydrogen phosphate (ADP) crystal is reported. For a 60% deuterated ADP crystal, the spontaneous Raman scattering intensity decreased by 38% compared with that of a pristine ADP crystal. At room temperature (24°C), noncritical phase-matching fourth harmonic generation of a 1053 nm laser was realized. The angular acceptance was 55.7 mrad, and the external conversion efficiency from 526 to 263 nm reached 85.3%.

RESUMEN

In current inertial confinement fusion (ICF) facilities, KDP and DKDP crystals are the second harmonic generation (SHG) and third harmonic generation (THG) materials for the Nd:glass laser (1053 nm). Based on the trend for the development of short wavelengths for ICF driving lasers, technical solutions for fourth harmonic generation (FHG) will undoubtedly attract more and more attention. In this paper, the rapid growth of an ADP crystal and non-critical phase-matching (NCPM) FHG of a 1053-nm laser using an ADP crystal are reported. The NCPM temperature is 33.7°C. The conversion efficiency from 526 to 263 nm is 70%, and the angular acceptance range is 55.4 mrad; these results are superior to those for the DKDP crystals. This research has shown that ADP crystals will be a competitive candidate in future ICF facilities when the utilisation of high-energy, high-efficiency UV lasers at wavelengths shorter than the present 351 nm is of interest.
