RESUMEN

The use of the anaerobic technique in bacteriological investigations has made it possible to establish the leading role of asporogenous anaerobes in the etiological structure of the causative agents of pulmonary abscesses. Asporogenous anaerobes have been isolated from 93% of all examined patients, and in 54.4% of such patients these microorganisms have proved to be an independent etiological factor. Among asporogenous anaerobes, the main causative agents of pulmonary abscesses have been found to belong to four genera: Bacteroides, Fusobacterium, Peptococcus and Peptostreptococcus. Pulmonary abscesses of purely aerobic etiology are rather rare (5.3%). The schemes of the antibacterial treatment of patients with pulmonary abscesses, developed with regard to the leading etiological role of asporogenous anaerobes and clinically approved, have permitted achieving a considerable improvement in the results of treatment and an essential economic effect.

RESUMEN

Vacuum treatment was used in 116 patients with purulent wounds. It was established that the vacuum treatment of purulent wounds was effective but after surgical treatment. It considerably decreased the amount of microbes in wound tissues, had no harmful effects and improved clinical results of healing the wounds after putting early sutures.

RESUMEN

By means of electron-microscopic radioautography RNA synthesis in blood neutrophils of burn patients was studied. Activation by phagocytic subjects was found to increase overall level of RNA synthesis in blood neutrophils either by increasing the number of cells capable of synthesis, or increasing their number in line with the intensification of the process in each of these cells. Alteration of activation conditions influences the degree of RNA synthesis by both of these means. Wound neutrophils are activated cells with a high level of RNA synthesis and low compared to blood cells, level of protein synthesis and increased capability of adhesion as well. They contain in their numerous phagosomata tissue detritus more frequently than bacteria do. Wound neutrophils are subjected to rapid destruction; it is not possible to stimulate in them phagocytic activity by means of opsonized Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

RESUMEN

A new multicomponent Pseudomonas vaccine 'pyoimmunogen' has been developed. It was tested for safety and immunogenicity by immunization of volunteer donors and burned patients. Immune plasma obtained from volunteers was used for treatment of severe forms of P. aeruginosa infections. Pyoimmunogen was shown to be of low toxicity for apparently healthy humans and to induce specific antibody formation. In 16 out of 20 burned patients it had a beneficial effect on the course of the disease and the period of hospitalization was shortened. As a result of complex treatment involving the use of anti-P. aeruginosa plasma 51 out of 60 patients recovered.

RESUMEN

The therapeutic efficacy, tolerance and pharmacokinetics of sisomicin, gentamicin and a new dosage form of kanamycin sulfate as an ampoule solution for intravenous injection were studied clinically. High therapeutic efficacy of the above three aminoglycosides in the treatment of severe inflammatory infections caused by gram-negative bacteria was shown with the use of the adequate doses. Favourable results of the therapy estimated by the laboratory and clinical data were observed in 81-90 per cent of the patients.
