A case of diaphragm hernia containing accessory spleen and great omentum detected by Tc-99m phytate scintigraphy.

A rare case of diaphragm hernia containing an accessory spleen and great omentum is reported. Tc-99m phytate SPECT showed tracer accumulation in the accessory spleen and was useful in the evaluation of the disease.

99mTc(V)-DMSA and 67Ga-citrate images in a patient with recurrent extraabdominal fibromatosis.

67Ga-citrate and 99mTc(V)-DMSA images were obtained in a patient with recurrent extraabdominal fibromatosis of the left calf. The 67Ga-citrate image showed abnormal uptake in the left calf lesion and right calf, which was considered due to probable myositis caused by overexertion. On the other hand, the 99mTc(V)-DMSA image showed abnormal uptake only in the left calf lesion. Surgical and radiation therapy was performed. Two years after the treatment, two lesions of the recurrent extraabdominal fibromatosis followed, and a 99mTc(V)-DMSA image could demarcate the two lesions. 99mTc(V)-DMSA images were considered to be useful in following up of recurrent extraabdominal fibromatosis.

Technetium-99m-sestamibi scintimammography of benign and malignant phyllodes tumors.

We presented two cases of phyllodes tumor of the breast examined by 99mTc-sestamibi (MIBI) two-phase scintimammography. In the case with malignant phyllodes tumor, 99mTc-MIBI accumulation was recognized on both early and delayed images. In the case with benign phyllodes tumor, however, 99mTc-MIBI accumulation was recognized on only the early image. 99mTc-MIBI delayed imaging may have the potential to distinguish between benign and malignant phyllodes tumors.

A case of malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the ilium, evaluation by blood-pool scintigraphy.

A rare case of malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) of the ilium was presented and blood-pool scintigraphic images and angiographic images were correlated. Hypervascular tumor and lacking of contrast material with arteriovenous shunts were shown by angiography. Intensive tracer accumulation was shown by blood-pool scintigraphy. After radiation therapy and transcatheter arterial embolization of the tumor, tracer accumulation was noticeable reduced. These findings suggested a vascular tumor such as angiosarcoma, but surgery revealed MFH of the bone. Blood-pool scintigraphy was useful in the evaluation of the vascular characteristics of the tumor.

99mTc-DTPA-HSA uptake in a case of splenic hamartoma.

Primary splenic tumors are very rare. The authors present a case of splenic hamartoma in which positive 99mTc-DTPA-HSA uptake was recognized with ultrasound, CT, MR and angiographic images. This case showed the need to consider hamartoma as well as hemangioma in the differential diagnosis of 99mTc-DTPA-HSA uptake in splenic tumors.

99mTc-MIBI accumulation in the parathyroid autograft in a patient with recurrent hyperparathyroidism.

A case with recurrent hyperparathyroidism secondary to chronic renal insufficiency is reported. The patient had undergone total parathyroidectomy and autotransplantation of parathyroid tissue five years ago. Bone scintigraphy clearly demonstrated skeletal involvement of secondary hyperparathyroidism and 99mTc-methoxyisobutylisonitrile scintigraphy clearly demonstrated a hyperfunctioning parathyroid autograft.

Incidental 67Ga uptake into an appendiceal mucocele in a patient with sigmoid colon cancer.

We report a case of sigmoid colon cancer in which visualization of an appendiceal mucocele was unexpectedly found during 67Ga scintigraphy, and discuss a proposed mechanism of uptake.

Ga-67 and Tc-99m (V) DMSA imaging in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma with amyloid tumor.

This report describes the localization and categorization of tumors using Ga-67 and Tc-99m (V) DMSA imaging in a rare case of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma associated with an amyloid tumor. Ga-67 uptake was found in both the lymphoma and the amyloid tumor. Significant Tc-99m (V) DMSA uptake was found only in the amyloid tumor. In this case, Ga-67 uptake was nonspecific, but Tc-99m (V) DMSA uptake gave additional information before treatment.

Gallium-67 scintigraphy in an adult intussusception caused by malignant lymphoma.

A rare case of adult intussusception caused by malignant lymphoma (ML) of the cecum was reported. In spite of the cecum lesion, strong 67Ga accumulation was located in the right epigastrium. This finding was useful in suggesting the presence of intussusception due to ML.

Liver scintigraphy in a patient with Gaucher disease.

Liver scintigraphy including SPECT was performed in a patient with Gaucher disease and compared with other methods. Multiple photon-deficient areas in the liver and spleen were recognized, and in evaluating the reticuloendothelial system of the liver, liver SPECT image was superior to US, CT and MR images.

99mTc-HMDP accumulation in a phyllodes tumor of the breast, a case report.

In a patient with breast tumor, 99mTc-HMDP accumulation in the tumor was recognized in evaluating bone metastasis. Surgery and histopathology revealed that the tumor was a phyllodes tumor. This scintigraphic finding was thought to be rare and phyllodes tumor should be included in differential diagnosis when 99mTc-HMDP accumulation in the breast was recognized.

67Ga citrate and 99mTc(v)-DMSA scintigraphy in a case of maxillary sinus liposarcoma.

Scintigraphic images with 67Ga citrate and 99mTc(v)-dimercaptosuccinic acid and MR image of a 16-year-old male with maxillary sinus liposarcoma (predominantly myxoid type) are reported. The MR image clearly indicated the exact location, size and anatomical relationship of the tumor. Scintigraphic evaluation was useful in suggesting the malignant nature of the tumor and showed no distant metastasis. Both examinations were effective in treating this case.

Brain perfusion abnormalities in a thinner and amphetamine abuser detected by I-123 IMP scintigraphy.

MR images and three dimensional surface images (3-D images) using N-isopropyl-p-[I-123] iodoamphetamine (I-123 IMP) were obtained in a patient who acknowledged using thinner and amphetamine. While MR images could not find any definite abnormality, 3-D images with I-123 IMP demonstrated multifocal defects. 3-D images with I-123 IMP might be able to detect an early abnormality in brain perfusion in a drug abuser.

Positive imaging of cardiomyopathy with 99mTc(V)-DMSA.

A case of histologically proven dilated cardiomyopathy and a case of clinically diagnosed cardiomyopathy (cardiac amyloidosis was strongly suspected but was not confirmed) were examined with 99mTc(V)-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA). 99mTc(V)-DMSA accumulation in the damaged myocardium was clearly demonstrated. These results suggested the possibility that 99mTc(V)-DMSA could be used as a positive agent for cardiomyopathy.
