RESUMEN

The authors have analyzed 32 cases of complex treatment of severe forms of neonatal intraventricular hemorrhages and proved high clinical efficiency of complex treatment. The stage-by-stage application of tissue plasminogen activator and operation of extracorporeal cerebrospinal fluid filtration resulted in decreased mortality, reduced duration of the cerebrospinal fluid sanitation period, reduced number of shunting-dependent children. One year follow-up showed an improvement of the patients' quality of life.

RESUMEN

Herpes infection is one of the most common types of virus infections in children. Diagnosis of herpes infection in infants is complicated due to low-grade ambiguous clinical symptoms and compromised Immune system. Brain herpes infection is the most severe type of the herpetic diseases. The role of neurovisual methods (transcranial ultrasonography, computer tomography) is increasing in cases of herpetic encephalitis development.

RESUMEN

Implication of transcranial ultrasonography (TUS) in diagnostics of acute disturbances of cerebral blood circulation (ADCBC) was studied in 324 subjects, aged from 20 to 83 years, including group I (208 subjects without neurological disturbances), group II (56 subjects without the structural intracranial changes which, along with TUS, underwent MRT), group III (60 patients with diagnosis of ADCBC which underwent TUS and then CT of the brain). The brain areas where intracranial hemorrhages (ICH) were most often localized in hemorrhage stroke (HS) were found in 166 subjects (80%) of group I. The second and third cerebral ventricles were seen in 187 (90%) people. The third ventricular was seen in 19 patients (the effectiveness was corresponded to Echo-EG). The comparison of US-, CT- and MRT-images did not reveal significant differences as in the total assessment of the intracranial structural state of the brain as well in the most relevant measurements. TUS revealed no significant changes in 40 patients from group III but the diagnosis of infarction was confirmed by CT. The specific US signs of ICH were found in HS. In 19 patients the CT revealed and verified the ICH of supratentorial localization. In conclusion, TUS with using portative US equipment provides the possibility of screening-diagnostics and monitoring of ICH in strokes.

RESUMEN

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy was used to study the structure of carbohydrate chains in glycosylated forms of alpha 1-acid glycoprotein (AGP) and in pseudoglycoproteins obtained by transferring the carbohydrate chains of AGP to a polyacrylamide carrier. It was found that AGP-D glycoform and pseudoglycoproteins containing three or more glycans per molecule, which possess high immunomodulating activity, have a specific spatial organization of carbohydrate chains. This organization is maintained by the interaction of neighboring glycans with each other and does not depend on the nature of the carrier (whether it is polypeptide or polyacrylamide).

RESUMEN

Neoglycoconjugates based on polyacrylamide and sialic acid with N-acetylneuraminic acid or sialooligosaccharides as side chains were studied by surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy. It had previously been found that these polymers can effectively inhibit influenza virus adhesion. This study revealed the possibility to evaluate, based on the intensity of SERS signals, the overall availability for interaction and the conformational freedom of sialic acid residues in glycoconjugates. The dependence of these two factors on the structure and density of sialylated side chains was studied. The uniformity of distribution of sialylated side chains in conjugates was shown. Comparison of the results of the SERS spectroscopic study of the conjugates and the data on their inhibitory effect on the adhesion of specific strains of influenza virus allowed the identification of the conjugates for which the availability and conformational freedom of sialic acid are the main factors determining their inhibitory properties. A conclusion was also reached about the predominance of one of the mechanisms (competitive inhibition or steric stabilization) in the inhibitory properties of the specific conjugates.
