RESUMEN

The importance of hydrogels in tissue engineering cannot be overemphasized due to their resemblance to the native extracellular matrix. However, natural hydrogels with satisfactory biocompatibility exhibit poor mechanical behavior, which hampers their application in stress-bearing soft tissue engineering. Here, we describe the fabrication of a double methacrylated gelatin bioink covalently linked to graphene oxide (GO) via a zero-length crosslinker, digitally light-processed (DLP) printable into 3D complex structures with high fidelity. The resultant natural hydrogel (GelGOMA) exhibits a conductivity of 15.0 S m-1as a result of the delocalization of theπ-orbital from the covalently linked GO. Furthermore, the hydrogel shows a compressive strength of 1.6 MPa, and a 2.0 mm thick GelGOMA can withstand a 1.0 kg ms-1momentum. The printability and mechanical strengths of GelGOMAs were demonstrated by printing a fish heart with a functional fluid pumping mechanism and tricuspid valves. Its biocompatibility, electroconductivity, and physiological relevance enhanced the proliferation and differentiation of myoblasts and neuroblasts and the contraction of human-induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes. GelGOMA demonstrates the potential for the tissue engineering of functional hearts and wearable electronic devices.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Family caregivers (CGs) of individuals with cancer are increasingly relied upon to provide long-term, sometimes intense care, although their integration into clinical cancer care remains minimal. The Caregiver Advocacy, Research, and Education (CARE) Center is a novel nurse-led academic-clinical partnership to support family CGs of individuals with gynecologic cancer. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Center protocols and report metrics of CG needs and Center support. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The Center's goals are to identify, assess, and provide tailored support to CGs. Initially, Center protocols included assessment of CGs' self-identified distress (distress thermometer, 0 = no distress to 10 = extreme distress) and needs (yes or no). Tailored support on the basis of CG distress was provided by in-person and remote staff who provided complementary, concurrent support based on CG need: evidence-based self-management guides, self-management support, referral to specialty services. Center documentation was analyzed to describe Center reach and CG distress. RESULTS: From November 2019 to June 2023, CGs (N = 1,250) were identified through referrals, new patient outreach, and inpatient visits. Seven hundred and six CGs (56.5%) were assessed through a needs-based assessment, and 515 (41.2%) CGs received tailored support. CGs were mostly men (53.0%) and the mean distress was 4.4/10 (standard deviation, 3.1). CG distress was moderately associated with CG needs including maintaining emotional (ρ = 0.40; P < .001) and physical (ρ = 0.31; P < .001) health and managing patient symptoms (ρ = 0.33; P < .001). CONCLUSION: Center protocols facilitate identification of high-need CGs within a cancer clinic. Future research will longitudinally evaluate the impact of Center protocols on CG and patient outcomes, incorporating updated assessment tools.

RESUMEN

Background: There is limited research on the intra-individual efficacy of ventricular pacing minimization algorithms developed by Biotronik-the Ventricular Pace Suppression algorithm (VpS) and the Intrinsic Rhythm Support plus algorithm (IRSplus) (BIOTRONIK SE & Co. KG, Berlin, Germany). We performed a randomized pilot trial that evaluated the efficacy of two algorithms in patients with symptomatic sinus node dysfunction (SND) who received a dual-chamber pacemaker. Methods: The trial was conducted in 11 tertiary hospitals in South Korea. The patients were randomized to either the VpS or IRSplus algorithm group after a 3-month period of fixed atrioventricular (AV) delay. The primary outcome was the ventricular pacing percentage (Vp%) at each follow-up visit. The secondary outcomes were the occurrence of heart failure (HF) and atrial fibrillation (AF) during the study period. Results: Data from 131 patients were analyzed. Initially, their average Vp% over 3 months with a fixed AV interval was 14.1 ± 19.4%. Patients were randomly assigned to VpS and IRSplus groups, with 66 and 65 in each. Algorithms reduced average Vp% to 4.0 ± 11.3% at 9 months and 6.7 ± 14.9% at 15 months. These algorithms were more effective for patients with paced AV delay (PAVD) ≤300 ms compared to those with PAVD >300 ms. Both algorithms were equally effective in reducing Vp%. Clinical AF or HF hospitalization was not observed during the study period. Conclusion: The VpS and IRSplus algorithms are effective and safe in minimizing unnecessary ventricular pacing in patients with SND.

RESUMEN

In pixel-based deep reinforcement learning (DRL), learning representations of states that change because of an agent's action or interaction with the environment poses a critical challenge in improving data efficiency. Recent data-efficient DRL studies have integrated DRL with self-supervised learning (SSL) and data augmentation to learn state representations from given interactions. However, some methods have difficulties in explicitly capturing evolving state representations or in selecting data augmentations for appropriate reward signals. Our goal is to explicitly learn the inherent dynamics that change with an agent's intervention and interaction with the environment. We propose masked and inverse dynamics modeling (MIND), which uses masking augmentation and fewer hyperparameters to learn agent-controllable representations in changing states. Our method is comprised of a self-supervised multitask learning that leverages a transformer architecture, which captures the spatiotemporal information underlying in the highly correlated consecutive frames. MIND uses two tasks to perform self-supervised multitask learning: masked modeling and inverse dynamics modeling. Masked modeling learns the static visual representation required for control in the state, and inverse dynamics modeling learns the rapidly evolving state representation with agent intervention. By integrating inverse dynamics modeling as a complementary component to masked modeling, our method effectively learns evolving state representations. We evaluate our method by using discrete and continuous control environments with limited interactions. MIND outperforms previous methods across benchmarks and significantly improves data efficiency. The code is available at https://github.com/dudwojae/MIND.

RESUMEN

Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) is an environmental alternative to petroleum-based plastics because of its biodegradability. The polymer properties of PHA have been improved by the incorporation of different monomers. Traditionally, the monomer composition of PHA has been analyzed using gas chromatography (GC) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), providing accurate monomer composition. However, sequential analysis of the thermal properties of PHA using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) remains necessary, providing crucial insights into its thermal characteristics. To shorten the monomer composition and thermal property analysis, we directly applied DSC to the analysis of the obtained PHA film and observed a high correlation (r2 = 0.98) between melting enthalpy and the 3-hydroxyhexanoate (3-HHx) mole fraction in the polymer. A higher 3-HHx fraction resulted in a lower melting enthalpy as 3-HHx provided the polymer with higher flexibility. Based on this, we selected the poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate) (P(3HB-co-3HHx)) producing strain from Cupriavidus strains that newly screened and transformed with vectors containing P(3HB-co-3HHx) biosynthetic genes, achieving an average error rate below 1.8% between GC and DSC results. Cupriavidus sp. BK2 showed a high 3-HHx mole fraction, up to 10.38 mol%, with Tm (℃) = 171.5 and ΔH of Tm (J/g) = 48.0, simultaneously detected via DSC. This study is an example of the expansion of DSC for PHA analysis from polymer science to microbial engineering.

RESUMEN

Despite recent calls to engage in scholarship with attention to anti-racism, equity, and social justice at a global level in Health Professions Education (HPE), the field has made few significant advances in incorporating the views of the so-called "Other" in understanding the nature, origin, and scope of knowledge as well as the epistemic justification of knowledge production. Editors, authors, and reviewers must take responsibility for questioning existing systems and structures, specifically about how they diffuse the knowledge of a few and silence the knowledge of many. This article presents 12 recommendations proposed by The Global South Counterspace Authors Collective (GSCAC), a group of HPE professionals, representing countries in the Global South, to help the Global North enact practical changes to become more inclusive and engage in authentic and representative work in HPE publishing. This list is not all-encompassing but a first step to begin rectifying non-inclusive structures in our field.

RESUMEN

We proposed a 2D 1 × 64 silicon optical phased array with a backside silicon-etched structure to achieve high tuning efficiency and a wide longitudinal steering range. At the radiator array, the n-i-n heater was implemented to steer the light in a longitudinal direction through the thermo-optic effect. The deep reactive ion etching process was utilized to generate the 600 µm depth air trench with a 1.8 cm2 area from the backside of the radiator array. We achieved almost 100% increment in terms of tuning efficiency, which is 1.56°/W for the proposed structure and 0.78°/W for the conventional structure.

RESUMEN

Background: Although the all-inside arthroscopic modified Broström operation (AMBO) and open modified Broström operation (OMBO) for chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI) showed favorable outcomes up to 1-year short-term follow-up, concerns about the long-term stability of AMBO are still present. Therefore, we aimed to compare midterm outcomes between the 2 methods by extending the observation period. Methods: Fifty-four patients undergoing ankle surgery between August 2013 and July 2017 were included in the AMBO (n = 37) and OMBO (n = 17) groups. The American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) ankle-hindfoot scale and a visual analog scale (VAS) were used to evaluate the clinical outcomes. Anterior drawer test and talar tilt angle were used to evaluate the radiological outcomes. The mean follow-up duration was 59.69 months. Results: The 2 groups both showed improved clinical and radiological results statistically. In addition, they did not differ in age, sex, or preoperative AOFAS ankle-hindfoot scale score, VAS score, anterior drawer test, or talar tilt angle. No significant difference in the final follow-up postoperative clinical scores or radiological outcomes was observed. Conclusions: AMBO and OMBO as treatments for CLAI did not yield differing clinical or radiological outcomes at a mean follow-up time point of 59.69 months.

RESUMEN

This paper presents experimental results of combined cyclic load testing on a reinforced concrete (RC) column that was retrofitted with newly designed steel rods. The steel rods were installed around the column longitudinally and then anchored. The proposed steel rods utilize simple components and installation to enhance both the strength and ductility of RC columns. Cyclic lateral load tests were conducted on three specimens: one unreinforced specimen as reference, one specimen with the entire length of the column retrofitted, and one specimen with only the plastic hinge region of the column retrofitted. All specimens were tested under eccentric constant axial load and incrementally increasing lateral loading cycles with eccentricity. The implementation of steel rods resulted in significant improvement in ductility and an up to 60% increase in ultimate loading capacity.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The incidence of cancer during pregnancy is increasing, presenting several challenges to the treatment of cancer in pregnant women. However, research focusing on the lived experiences of pregnant women with cancer in South Korea is limited. This study aimed to explore and describe the day-to-day lived experiences of women diagnosed with or treated for cancer during pregnancy and their husbands. METHODS: The study employed a qualitative descriptive design and utilized purposive sampling to recruit participants. The participants comprised six women living in Korea diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy and one husband of a female participant. In-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted, audiotaped, and transcribed. Five of the participants agreed to a second interview, resulting in a total of 12 individual interviews. A thematic analysis was then performed. The participants' ages ranged from 31 to 40 years, and their diagnoses during pregnancy were either breast or thyroid cancer. RESULTS: Four main themes were identified: (1) Participants faced various heart-breaking difficulties maintaining their pregnancies throughout cancer treatment; (2) Pregnant women with cancer experienced complex but responsible feelings toward their children; (3) Patients with cancer also fulfilled their roles as parents even with their own diseases; and (4) Family support had a significant impact on the pregnant women to overcome the path. CONCLUSIONS: These findings provide a comprehensive understanding of the lived experiences of being diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy. A recommended strategy is to develop a nursing education program for the pregnant women with cancer to provide necessary information and support, and to help them cope positively with their situation.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The potential relationship between mastication ability and cognitive function in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) patients is unclear. This report investigated the association between mastication and cognitive function in iNPH patients using the gray level of the co-occurrence matrix on the lateral pterygoid muscle. METHODS: We analyzed data from 96 unoperated iNPH patients who underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) between December 2016 and February 2023. Radiomic features were extracted from T2 MRI scans of the lateral pterygoid muscle, and muscle texture parameters were correlated with the iNPH grading scale. Subgroup analysis compared the texture parameters of patients with normal cognitive function with those of patients with cognitive impairment. RESULTS: The mini-mental state examination score correlated positively with the angular second moment (P < 0.05) and negatively with entropy (P < 0.05). The dementia scale (Eide's classification) correlated negatively with gray values (P < 0.05). Gray values were higher in the cognitive impairment group (64.7 ± 16.6) when compared with the non-cognitive impairment group (57.4 ± 13.3) (P = 0.005). Entropy was higher in the cognitive impairment group (8.2 ± 0.3) than in the non-cognitive impairment group (8.0 ± 0.3) (P < 0.001). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.681 (P = 0.003) and 0.701 (P < 0.001) for gray value and entropy, respectively. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest an association between heterogeneity of mastication and impaired cognitive function in iNPH patients and highlight muscle texture analysis as a potential tool for predicting cognitive impairment in these patients.

RESUMEN

This study was the first to document the fluctuations of nutritional constituents, antioxidant capacities, and physicochemical characteristics during the aging processes of red ginseng sprouts (RGS) and black ginseng sprouts (BGS) from dried ginseng sprouts (DGS). Total ginsenoside levels differed with 54.72 (DGS) → 57.15 (RGS) and 6.98 (BGS) mg/g, specifically, ginsenoside F2 and Rd2 in RGS remarkably increased with 1.97 â†’ 5.88 and 2.41 â†’ 5.49 mg/g, respectively. Phenolics increased dramatically as 297.02 â†’ 1770.01 (6.0-fold); 1834.94 (6.2-fold) µg/g in DGS → RGS; BGS with abundance contents of benzoic acid (>15.3-fold), chlorogenic acid (>9.5-fold), and catechin (>4.2-fold), whereas amino acids markedly decreased (3686.81 â†’ 1505.00; 364.64 mg/100 g), with arginine showing a significant decrease. Moreover, beneficial factors (total phenolic content: TPC; total flavonoid content: TFC; maillard reaction products: MRP) displayed increase tendencies (approximately 2.0-fold) with BGS > RGS > DGS, and antioxidant patterns significantly increased with potential capacities as follows: ABTS (48.3: DGS → 65.8: RGS; 70.2 %: BGS) > DPPH (18.5 â†’ 44.6; 59.2 %) > hydroxyl (23.2 â†’ 35.4; 39.9 %) > FRAP (0.6 â†’ 1.8; 1.8 %) at 500 µg/mL. In particular, DNA protection exhibited excellent rates of 100 %, in the order of BGS (25 µg/mL) > RGS (50 µg/mL) > DGS (500 µg/mL). These findings suggest that processed ginseng sprouts can be excellent agents for natural antioxidants.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Obesity, characterized by abnormal fat accumulation and metabolic disturbances, presents a significant health challenge. Opuntia humifusa Raf., commonly known as Korean Cheonnyuncho, is rich in various beneficial compounds and has demonstrated antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. However, its potential impact on glucose and lipid metabolism, particularly in obese rats, remains unexplored. We aimed to investigate whether O. humifusa stems and fruits could beneficially alter glucose metabolism and lipid profiles in a rat model of high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity. MATERIALS/METHODS: Thirty-two rats were allocated into 4 groups: normal diet (NF), HFD control (HF), HFD treated with 2% O. humifusa stems (HF-OS), and HFD treated with 2% O. humifusa fruits (HF-OF). Experimental diets were administered for 6 weeks. At the end of the treatment, liver and fat tissues were isolated, and serum was collected for biochemical analysis. The major flavonoid from O. humifusa stems and fruits was identified and quantified. RESULTS: After 6 weeks of treatment, the serum fasting glucose concentration in the HF-OS group was significantly lower than that in the HF group. Serum fasting insulin concentrations in both HF-OS and HF-OF groups tended to be lower than those in the HF group, indicating a significant improvement in insulin sensitivity in the HF-OS group. Additionally, the HF-OS group exhibited a tendency towards the restoration of adiponectin levels to that of the NF group. CONCLUSION: The 2% O. humifusa stems contain abundant quercetin and isorhamnetin, which alter fasting blood glucose levels in rats fed a HFD, leading to a favorable improvement in insulin resistance.

RESUMEN

Pectocin M1 (PM1), the bacteriocin from phytopathogenic Pectobacterium carotovorum which causes soft rot disease, has a unique ferredoxin domain that allows it to use FusA of the plant ferredoxin uptake system. To probe the structure-based mechanism of PM1 uptake, we determined the X-ray structure of full-length PM1, containing an N-terminal ferredoxin and C-terminal catalytic domain connected by helical linker, at 2.04 Å resolution. Based on published FusA structure and NMR data for PM1 ferredoxin domain titrated with FusA, we modeled docking of the ferredoxin domain with FusA. Combining the docking models with the X-ray structures of PM1 and FusA enables us to propose the mechanism by which PM1 undergoes dynamic domain rearrangement to translocate across the target cell outer membrane.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Cementless fixation has become increasingly popular in hip arthroplasty due to its shorter operation time, easier technique, biologic fixation, and avoidance of bone cement implantation syndrome compared to cemented fixation. However, intraoperative periprosthetic femoral fracture (IOPFx) is a disconcerting complication during cementless hip arthroplasty. Our purpose was to identify the features of cementless stem that increase the risk of IOPFx during primary hip arthroplasty. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed all 4806 hip arthroplasties that was performed in a single institution from May 2003 to December 2020. Age at the index arthroplasty, sex, body mass index, physical status, ambulatory function, side of the operation, operational history, cause of the index arthroplasty, type of arthroplasty, surgical approach, surgeon, implant information, and events during the operation were investigated. The shoulder geometry and length of stem were also reviewed. The event of interest was narrowed down to IOPFx among various records of intraoperative events. RESULTS: We found IOPFx of 2.6% among all the hips operated with cementless stem. In the multivariable analysis, female (OR = 1.52), childhood hip disease (OR = 2.30), stove-pipe femur (OR = 2.43), combined approach (OR = 2.60), and standard length of stem (OR = 1.59) were found to be significant risk factors of IOPFx. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, a stem with a standard length is significantly associated with risk of IOPFx compared to a shortened stem. These findings highlight the importance of careful consideration in terms of the risk of IOPFx when standard length cementless stem is chosen.

RESUMEN

Plastics pose a considerable challenge to aquatic ecosystems because of their increasing global usage and non-biodegradable properties. Coastal plastic debris can persist in ecosystems; however, its effects on resident organisms remain unclear. A metagenomic analysis of the isopoda Ligia, collected from clean (Nae-do, ND) and plastic-contaminated sites (Maemul-do, MD) in South Korea, was conducted to clarify the effects of microplastic contamination on the gut microbiota. Ligia gut microbiota's total operational taxonomic units were higher in ND than in MD. Alpha diversity did not differ significantly between the two Ligia gut microbial communities collected from ND and MD, although richness (Observed species) was lower in MD than in ND. Proteobacteria (67.47%, ND; 57.30%, MD) and Bacteroidetes (13.63%, ND; 20.76%, MD) were the most abundant phyla found at both sites. Significant different genera in Ligia from EPS-polluted sites were observed. Functional gene analysis revealed that 19 plastic degradation-related genes, including those encoding hydrogenase, esterase, and carboxylesterase, were present in the gut microbes of Ligia from MD, indicating the potential role of the Ligia gut microbiota in plastic degradation. This study provides the first comparative field evidence of the gut microbiota dynamics of plastic detritus consumers in marine ecosystems.

RESUMEN

In this study, the characteristics of grout mixed with charcoal as an expansive agent were examined to reduce the pre-hardening shrinkage of cementitious materials. This study compared and reviewed the application of CSA, a conventional expansive agent, to grout. The setting time, fluidity, compressive strength, and pre-hardening shrinkage/expansion were evaluated to explore the usability of charcoal as an expansive agent. The test results confirmed that, as the incorporation rate of charcoal increased, the pre-hardening expansion rate of the grout also increased, making it more effective for pre-hardening expansion than the conventional expansive agent CSA. However, when charcoal was used as an expansive agent, the compressive strength decreased after hardening, indicating the need for caution regarding the amount of charcoal used. Furthermore, the pre-hardening shrinkage and expansion rates of the various types of charcoal used in this study showed some differences, suggesting the need for further research on the internal pore volume and pore size of the charcoal.

RESUMEN

We investigated whether radiomics of computed tomography (CT) image data enables the differentiation of bone metastases not visible on CT from unaffected bone, using pathologically confirmed bone metastasis as the reference standard, in patients with gastric cancer. In this retrospective study, 96 patients (mean age, 58.4 ± 13.3 years; range, 28-85 years) with pathologically confirmed bone metastasis in iliac bones were included. The dataset was categorized into three feature sets: (1) mean and standard deviation values of attenuation in the region of interest (ROI), (2) radiomic features extracted from the same ROI, and (3) combined features of (1) and (2). Five machine learning models were developed and evaluated using these feature sets, and their predictive performance was assessed. The predictive performance of the best-performing model in the test set (based on the area under the curve [AUC] value) was validated in the external validation group. A Random Forest classifier applied to the combined radiomics and attenuation dataset achieved the highest performance in predicting bone marrow metastasis in patients with gastric cancer (AUC, 0.96), outperforming models using only radiomics or attenuation datasets. Even in the pathology-positive CT-negative group, the model demonstrated the best performance (AUC, 0.93). The model's performance was validated both internally and with an external validation cohort, consistently demonstrating excellent predictive accuracy. Radiomic features derived from CT images can serve as effective imaging biomarkers for predicting bone marrow metastasis in patients with gastric cancer. These findings indicate promising potential for their clinical utility in diagnosing and predicting bone marrow metastasis through routine evaluation of abdominopelvic CT images during follow-up.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: Dental caries, or tooth decay, is an oral health issue worldwide. Oral healthcare researchers are considering how to develop safe and effective preventive measures and treatments for dental caries. This study evaluated the potential applications of Compound K and BTEX-K, a Compound K-rich red ginseng extract, for the prevention and treatment of dental caries. Moreover, this study briefly confirmed its inhibitory effect on inflammation, an important factor in dental health. METHODS: The amount of organic acids produced by bacteria in biofilm was determined using in vitro and in vivo assays. The ability of these extracts to promote tooth remineralization and microhardness was evaluated using an in vivo mouse assay. We evaluated their anti-inflammatory potential by inhibiting proinflammatory cytokine expression and lipopolysaccharide-induced nitrous oxide production in cell lines. RESULTS: Compound K (10-20 µg/mL) and BTEX-K (50-100 µg/mL) effectively inhibited the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria, demonstrating significant antibacterial properties. They can potentially prevent biofilm formation by reducing lactic acid production in the teeth. These compounds showed a strong ability to promote tooth remineralization and improve the microhardness of acid-producing bacteria. They also possess potent anti-inflammatory properties that downregulate proinflammatory cytokine (interleukin-6, interleukin-1ß, inducible nitric oxide synthase) expression, suppress nuclear factor-kappa B transcription factor activation (∼1.6 times), and reduce nitrous oxide production in lipopolysaccharide-induced RAW264.7 cells. CONCLUSIONS: Compounds K and BTEX-K may provide a novel approach to dental caries prevention as well as inflammation prevention and treatment.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: This study assessed the use of liver stiffness (LS) and dispersion slope (DS) in classifying patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) by the necessity of antiviral treatment. METHODS: A retrospective review examined 249 patients with CHB (male:female, 107:142; mean age, 53±14 years) between April 2018 and March 2022. Patients for whom treatment was indicated, termed group 1, exhibited either serum alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase levels not exceeding five times the upper limit of normal and LS >13 kPa, or hepatitis B virus DNA >2,000 IU/mL and ALT >40 IU/L. The remaining patients comprised group 2 (treatment not required). In subgroup analysis, patients with LS <13 kPa were further examined. RESULTS: Overall, group 1 exhibited significantly higher LS (12.64±6.76 vs. 6.31±1.67 kPa, P<0.001) and DS (15.52±4.95 vs. 11.04±1.93 [m/s]/kHz, P<0.001) than group 2. In subgroup analysis, group 1 also demonstrated significantly higher values (LS: 8.05±2.12 vs 6.31±1.67 kPa, P<0.001, DS: 13.06±2.75 vs. 11.04±1.93 [m/s]/kHz, P<0.001). The areas under the curve (AUCs) for LS and DS in group 1 were 0.855 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.80 to 0.90; P<0.001) and 0.810 (95% CI, 0.75 to 0.86; P<0.001), respectively. In subgroup analysis, the AUCs for LS and DS in group 1 were 0.751 (95% CI, 0.69 to 0.81; P<0.001) and 0.711 (95% CI, 0.64 to 0.77; P<0.001), respectively. Within group 1, the AUCs for LS and DS did not differ significantly (P>0.05). CONCLUSION: LS and DS assist in classifying patients with CHB by their need for antiviral treatment.
