RESUMEN

Aqueous zinc (Zn) iodine (I2) batteries have emerged as viable alternatives to conventional metal-ion batteries. However, undesirable Zn deposition and irreversible iodine conversion during cycling have impeded their progress. To overcome these concerns, we report a dynamical interface design by cation chemistry that improves the reversibility of Zn deposition and four-electron iodine conversion. Due to this design, we demonstrate an excellent Zn-plating/-stripping behavior in Zn||Cu asymmetric cells over 1000 cycles with an average Coulombic efficiency (CE) of 99.95%. Moreover, the Zn||I2 full cells achieve a high-rate capability (217.1 mA h g-1 at 40 A g-1; C rate of 189.5C) at room temperature and enable stable cycling with a CE of more than 99% at -50 °C at a current density of 0.05 A g-1. In situ spectroscopic investigations and simulations reveal that introducing tetraethylammonium cations as ion sieves can dynamically modulate the electrode-electrolyte interface environment, forming the unique water-deficient and chloride ion (Cl-)-rich interface. Such Janus interface accounts for the suppression of side reactions, the prevention of ICl decomposition, and the enrichment of reactants, enhancing the reversibility of Zn-stripping/-plating and four-electron iodine chemistry. This fundamental understanding of the intrinsic interplay between the electrode-electrolyte interface and cations offers a rational standpoint for tuning the reversibility of iodine conversion.

RESUMEN

This study focuses on the role of topoisomerases (TOPs) in sarcomas (SARCs), highlighting TOPs' influence on sarcoma prognosis through mRNA expression, genetic mutations, immune infiltration, and DNA methylation analysis using transcriptase sequencing and other techniques. The findings indicate that TOP gene mutations correlate with increased inflammation, immune cell infiltration, DNA repair abnormalities, and mitochondrial fusion genes alterations, all of which negatively affect sarcoma prognosis. Abnormal TOP expression may independently affect sarcoma patients' survival. Cutting-edge genomic tools such as Oncomine, gene expression profiling interactive analysis (GEPIA), and cBio Cancer Genomics Portal (cBioPortal) are utilized to explore the TOP gene family (TOP1/1MT/2A/2B/3A/3B) in soft-tissue sarcomas (STSs). This in-depth analysis reveals a notable upregulation of TOP mRNA in STS patients arcoss various SARC subtypes, French Federation Nationale des Centres de Lutte Contre le Cancer classification (FNCLCC) grades, and specific molecular profiles correlating with poorer clinical outcomes. Furthermore, this investigation identifies distinct patterns of immune cell infiltration, genetic mutations, and somatic copy number variations linked to TOP genes that inversely affect patient survival rates. These findings underscore the diagnostic and therapeutic relevance of the TOP gene suite in STSs.

RESUMEN

Intonation words play a very important role in early childhood language development and serve as a crucial entry point for studying children's language acquisition. Utilizing a natural conversation corpus, this paper thoroughly examines the intentional communication scenes of five Mandarin-speaking children before the age of 1;05 (17 months). We found that children produced a limited yet high-frequency set of intonation words such as " [a], [æ], [ε], [ən], [ə], eng [əŋ], [o], and [i]." These intonation words do not express the children's emotional attitudes toward propositions or events; rather, they are utilized within the frameworks of imperative, declarative, and interrogative intents. The children employ non-verbal, multimodal means such as pointing, gesturing, and facial expressions to actively convey or receive commands, provide or receive information, and inquire or respond. The data suggests that the function of intonation words is essentially equivalent to holophrases, indicating the initial stage of syntactic acquisition, which is a milestone in early syntactic development. Based on the cross-linguistic universality of intonation word acquisition and its inherited relationship with pre-linguistic intentional vocalizations, this paper proposes that children's syntax is initiated by the prosodic features of intonation. The paper also contends that intonation words, as the initial form of human vocal language in individual development, naturally extend from early babbling, emotional vocalizations, or sound expressions for changing intentions. They do not originate from spontaneous gesturing, which seems to have no necessary evolutionary relationship with the body postures that chimpanzees use to change intentions, as suggested by existing research. Human vocal language and non-verbal multimodal means are two parallel and non-contradictory forms of communication, with no apparent evidence of the former inheriting from the latter.

RESUMEN

Purpose: Infection prevention and control (IPC) has a significant impact on the prognosis after pediatric cardiac surgery. This study aimed to provide surveillance data on the incidence and density of various infections during the COVID-19 epidemic and explore the influence of multi-drug resistant organisms (MDRO) on in-hospital prognosis after congenital heart disease surgery. Methods: This single-center retrospective study included pediatric patients who underwent cardiac surgery between 2021 and 2022. The results of the postoperative bacterial and fungal cultures and antimicrobial stewardship were collected. The demographic characteristics (age and weight), operation-related parameters (RACHS-1 grade, duration of cardiopulmonary bypass, and aortic cross clamp), and surgical outcomes (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, delayed sternal closure, mortality, duration of mechanical ventilation, length of intensive care unit stay and hospital stay, and hospitalization costs) of MDRO and non-MDRO patients were compared. Results: A total of 4776 patients were included. There were 101 infectious culture results after the operation, with a nosocomial infection rate of 2.1%. There were 40 MDRO specimens from 36 patients, 50 non-MDRO specimens from 30 patients, and 11 fungal specimens from 10 patients. The incidence of pneumonia was 1.5%, with a ventilator-associated pneumonia incidence density of 7.2/1000 patient-days. The incidence of sepsis was 0.4%, with a catheter-related bloodstream infection incidence density of 0.24/ 1000 patient-days. The incidence density of catheter-associated tract infection was 0.45/ 1000 patient-days. The incidence of surgical site infection was 0.06%. The culture proportion before commencing antibiotics was 93% and the antibiotic consumption intensity was 30.7 DDD/100 bed-days. The length of intensive care unit stay in MDRO infection patients increased compared with that in non-MDRO infection patients, 30 (18,52) vs 17 (7,62) days, p=0.05). Conclusion: The IPC performance of Fuwai Hospital achieved satisfactory results. MDRO infection can lead to prolonged intensive care unit stay.

Developed countries have advanced infection prevention and control systems and comprehensive postoperative infection monitoring data for congenital heart disease. While developing countries have initiated efforts in infection prevention and control, global attention remains substantial. This study aimed to provide comprehensive infection surveillance data and identify possible implementation for further improvement in the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases in China (Fuwai Hospital). This was a retrospective single-center study. We included pediatric patients who underwent cardiac surgery at a pediatric surgical center between 2021 and 2022, with an age limit of 14 years. Exclusion criteria included patients undergoing medical therapy, interventional therapy, or surgical therapy in other centers in Fuwai Hospital. This study, for the first time, reports the incidence of comprehensive healthcare-associated infection surveillance and targeted surveillance (encompassing device-associated infection, surgical site infection, and multi-drug resistant organisms) after pediatric cardiac surgery at the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases in China. In addition, we report the data on antimicrobial stewardship. We compared the surgical outcome and hospitalization costs between patients with multi-drug resistant organism infection and those without multi-drug resistant organism infection and found that multi-drug resistant organism infection can lead to prolonged intensive care unit length of stay. The Fuwai Hospital achieved satisfactory infection prevention and control results. However, because China is a large developing country exhibiting notable variations in medical conditions across its diverse regions, prospective, multicenter, observational studies should be carried out for future research based on existing evidence.

RESUMEN

Microplastics (MPs) are widespread in agricultural soil, potentially threatening soil environmental quality and plant growth. However, toxicological research on MPs has mainly been limited to individual components (such as plants, microbes, and animals), without considering their interactions. Here, we examined earthworm-mediated effects on tomato growth and the rhizosphere micro-environment under MPs contamination. Earthworms (Eisenia fetida) mitigated the growth-inhibiting effect of MPs on tomato plant. Particularly, when exposed to environmentally relevant concentrations (ERC, 0.02% w/w) of MPs, the addition of earthworms significantly (p < 0.05) increased shoot and root dry weight by 12-13% and 13-14%, respectively. MPs significantly reduced (p < 0.05) soil ammonium (NH4+-N) (0.55-0.69 mg/kg), nitrate nitrogen (NO3--N) (7.02-8.65 mg/kg) contents, and N cycle related enzyme activities (33.47-42.39 µg/h/g) by 37.7-50.9%, 22.6-37.2%, and 34.2-48.0%, respectively, while earthworms significantly enhanced (p < 0.05) inorganic N mineralization and bioavailability. Furthermore, earthworms increased bacterial network complexity, thereby enhancing the robustness of the bacterial system to resist soil MPs stress. Meanwhile, partial least squares modelling showed that earthworms significantly influenced (p < 0.01) soil nutrients, which in turn significantly affected (p < 0.01) plant growth. Therefore, the comprehensive consideration of soil ecological composition is important for assessing MPs ecological risk.

RESUMEN

PURPOS: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of the Medial Sustain Nail (MSN) for medial comminuted trochanteric fractures fixation in comparison to Proximal Femoral Nail Antirotation (PFNA) through a clinical study. METHODS: A non-inferiority randomized controlled trial was conducted at a single centre between July 2019 and July 2020. Fifty patients diagnosed comminuted trochanteric fractures were randomly assigned to either the MSN group (n = 25) or the PFNA group (n = 25). A total of forty-three patients were included in the final study analysis. The primary outcome measure was Short Form 36 health surgery physical component summary (SF-36 PCS) score. Secondary outcomes included the Oxford Hip Scores (OHS), weight bearing, complication relate to implant and so on. This study was not blined to surgeons, but to patients and data analysts. RESULTS: The MSN demonstrated significantly better functional outcomes as measured by SF-36 PCS and OHS at six months postoperative compared to PFNA (p < 0.05). Union of fractures in the MSN group reached 90.9% at three months after surgery, whereas the PFNA group achieved a union rate of 57.1% (p < 0.05). Furthermore, weight-bearing time of MSN group was earlier than PFNA group (p < 0.05). Additionally, complications related to implant usage were more prevalent in the PFNA group (33.3%) compared to the MSN group (4.5%) (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: MSN exhibited superior quality of life outcomes compared to PFNA at six months postoperative. This indicates that MSN effectively reconstructs medial femoral support in patients with comminuted trochanteric fractures, which facilitates early weight-bearing and accelerates the recovery process. RESUMEN

Calcium-ion batteries (CIBs) have emerged as a promising alternative for electrochemical energy storage. The lack of high-performance cathode materials severely limits the development of CIBs. Vanadium oxides are particularly attractive as cathode materials for CIBs, and preinsertion chemistry is often used to improve their calcium storage performance. However, the room temperature cycling lifespan of vanadium oxides in organic electrolytes still falls short of 1000 cycles. Here, based on preinsertion chemistry, the cycling life of vanadium oxides is further improved by integrated electrode and electrolyte engineering. Utilizing a tailored Ca electrolyte, the constructed freestanding (NH4)2V6O16·1.35H2O@graphene oxide@carbon nanotube (NHVO-H@GO@CNT) composite cathode achieves a 305 mAh g-1 high capacity and 10 000 cycles record-long life. Additionally, for the first time, a Ca-ion hybrid capacitor full cell is assembled and delivers a capacity of 62.8 mAh g-1. The calcium storage mechanism of NHVO-H@GO@CNT based on a two-phase reaction and the exchange of NH4 + and Ca2+ during cycling are revealed. The lattice self-regulation of V─O layers is observed and the layered vanadium oxides with Ca2+ pillars formed by ion exchange exhibit higher capacity. This work provides novel strategies to enhance the calcium storage performance of vanadium oxides via integrated structural design of electrodes and electrolyte modification.

RESUMEN

The main pathogenic factor leading to cardiac remodeling and heart failure is myocardial fibrosis. Recent research indicates that microRNAs are essential for the progress of cardiac fibrosis. Myocardial fibrosis is considered to be alleviated through the bone morphogenetic protein and activin membrane-bound inhibitor (BAMBI), which does this by blocking the transforming growth factor ß1 (TGF-ß1) signaling pathway. Here, this study sought to elucidate the post-transcriptional regulation of miR-19a-3p on BAMBI and its role in TGF-ß1-induced cardiac fibroblast activation. Transverse aortic constriction (TAC) caused both myocardial interstitial and perivascular collagen deposition. RT-PCR showed that miR-19a-3p was upregulated in the myocardial tissue of cardiac fibrosis, and TGF-ß1 induced an increase of miR-19a-3p expression in cardiac fibroblasts. The dual-luciferase reporter test and qRT-PCR confirmed that miR-19a-3p directly combined with BAMBI mRNA 3'UTR, thus reduced BAMBI expression, which diminished the capability of BAMBI to inhibit TGF-ß1. Furthermore, miR-19a-3p mimic increased the activation of TGF-ß1/SMAD2/3 pathway signaling, which supported cardiac fibroblast activation, which blocked by overexpression of BAMBI. These findings imply that miR-19a-3p enhances the activation of TGF-ß1/SMAD2/3 by inhibiting BAMBI, further boosting the activation of cardiac fibroblasts, and may thus offer a novel strategy to tackling myocardial fibrosis.

RESUMEN

Immunotherapy has revolutionized cancer treatment, but inconsistent responses persist. Our study delves into the intriguing phenomenon of enhanced immunotherapy sensitivity in older individuals with cancers. Through a meta-analysis encompassing 25 small-to-mid-sized trials of immune checkpoint blockade (ICB), we demonstrate that older individuals exhibit heightened responsiveness to ICB therapy. To understand the underlying mechanism, we reanalyze single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data from multiple studies and unveil distinct upregulation of exhausted and cytotoxic T cell markers within the tumor microenvironment (TME) of older patients. Recognizing the potential role of gut microbiota in modulating the efficacy of immunotherapy, we identify an aging-enriched enterotype linked to improved immunotherapy outcomes in older patients. Fecal microbiota transplantation experiments in mice confirm the therapeutic potential of the aging-enriched enterotype, enhancing treatment sensitivity and reshaping the TME. Our discoveries confront the prevailing paradox and provide encouraging paths for tailoring cancer immunotherapy strategies according to an individual's gut microbiome profile.

RESUMEN

1T-MoS2 has become an ideal anode for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). However, the metastable feature of 1T-MoS2 makes it difficult to directly synthesize under normal conditions. In addition, it easily transforms into 2H phase via restacking, resulting in inferior electrochemical performance. Herein, the electron configuration of Mo 4d orbitals is modulated and the stable 1T-MoS2 is constructed by nickel (Ni) introduction (1T-Ni-MoS2). The original electron configuration of Mo 4d orbitals is changed via the electron injection by Ni, which triggers the phase transition from 2H to 1T phase, thus improving the electrical conductivity and accelerating the redox kinetics of the material. Consequently, 1T-Ni-MoS2 exhibits superior rate capability (266.8 mAh g-1 at 10 A g-1) and excellent cycle life (358.7 mAh g-1 at 1 A g-1 after 350 cycles). In addition, the assembled Na3V2(PO4)3/C||1T-Ni-MoS2 full cells deliver excellent electrochemical properties and show great prospects in energy storage devices.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Surgical treatment with internal fixation, specifically percutaneous fixation with three cannulated compression screws (CCSs), is the preferred choice for young and middle-aged patients. The mechanical advantage of the optimal spatial configuration with three screws provides maximum dispersion and cortical support. We suspect that the spatial proportion of the oblique triangle configuration (OTC) in the cross-section of the femoral neck isthmus (FNI) may significantly improve shear and fatigue resistance of the fixed structure, thereby stabilizing the internal fixation system in femoral neck fracture (FNF). This study aims to explore the mechanical features of OTC and provide a mechanical basis for its clinical application. METHODS: Twenty Sawbone femurs were prepared as Pauwels type III FNF models and divided equally into two fixation groups: OTC and inverted equilateral triangle configuration (IETC). Three 7.3 mm diameter cannulated compression screws (CCSs) were used for fixation. The specimens of FNF after screw internal fixation were subjected to static loading and cyclic loading tests, respectively, with five specimens for each test. Axial stiffness, 5 mm failure load, ultimate load, shear displacement, and frontal rotational angle of two fragments were evaluated. In the cyclic loading test, the load sizes were 700 N, 1400 N, and 2100 N, respectively, and the fracture end displacement was recorded. Results were presented as means ± SD. Data with normal distributions were compared by the Student's t test. RESULTS: In the static loading test, the axial stiffness, ultimate load, shear displacement, and frontal rotational angle of two fragments were (738.64 vs. 620.74) N/mm, (2957.61 vs. 2643.06) N, (4.67 vs. 5.39) mm, and (4.01 vs. 5.52)° (p < 0.05), respectively. Comparison between the femoral head displacement after 10,000 cycles of 700N cyclic loading and total displacement after 20,000 cycles of 700-1400N cyclic loading showed the OTC group was less than the IETC group (p < 0.05). A comparison of femoral head displacement after 10,000 cycles of 1400N and 2100N cycles and total displacement after 30,000 cycles of 700-2100N cycles showed the OTC group was less than another group, but the difference was not significant (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: When three CCSs are inserted in parallel to fix FNF, the OTC of three screws has obvious biomechanical advantages, especially in shear resistance and early postoperative weight-bearing, which provides a mechanical basis for clinical selection of ideal spatial configuration for unstable FNF.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: All patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) receive postoperative management in ICUs. Infection prevention and control (IPC) has a significant impact on prognosis. This study provides a preliminary understanding of the fundamental aspects of IPC in ICUs following CHD surgery in China. METHODS: From September to October 2023, we initiated a survey on healthcare-associated infection (HAI) management in hospitals that perform CHD surgeries independently. The questionnaires were jointly completed by the ICU physicians and IPC personnel. Duplicate or unqualified questionnaires were excluded from the study. The contents of our questionnaires covered hospital and ICU capacity, performance of the infection control department, HAI surveillance, implementation of IPC measures, and antimicrobial stewardship (AMS). Qualified questionnaires were compared according to the volume of annual CHD surgeries performed in different ICUs. Group 1 was defined as volume more than 300 cases and group 2 was defined as volume less than or equal to 300 cases. RESULTS: Sixty-two of the 118 questionnaires were completed, with a response rate of 53%. The CHD surgical volume in 2022 of the 62 hospitals was 36342, accounting for 52% of the annual CHD surgical volume (69 672) across the country. The postoperative infection rates obtained from the 15 ICUs varied from 1.3 to 15%, with a median rate of 4.5%. A total of 16 ICUs provided data on drug-resistant bacteria, Klebsiella pneumoniae exhibiting the highest frequency. More than 95% of ICUs have established complete HAI management systems. Information-based HAI surveillance was conducted in 89% of ICUs. Approximately 67% of ICUs stopped prophylactic antibiotics within 48 hours after surgery. In complex cases, carbapenems were administered empirically in 89% of ICUs. Group 1 had an advantage over group 2 in preventing multi-drug-resistant organisms (all instruments should be used alone 100% vs. 86%, P =0.047; cleaning and disinfection of environmental surfaces, 100% vs. 81%, P =0.035; antibiotic consumption control 85% vs. 61%, P =0.044) and in preventing surgical site infections (perioperative blood glucose monitoring, 88% vs. 67%, P =0.048). However, Group 1 did not perform well in preventing catheter-related bloodstream infection (delayed catheter removal due to convenience of laboratory tests, 31% vs. 6%, P =0.021) and catheter-associated urinary tract infection (delayed catheter removal due to muscle relaxant administration, 88% vs. 58%, P =0.022). CONCLUSIONS: A relatively complete HAI management system has been established throughout the country in ICUs for CHD patients. Information-based surveillance of HAI needs to be promoted, and actions should be taken to facilitate the implementation of IPC measures and AMS bundles. Training and feedback are critical for implementing IPC measures.

RESUMEN

Background and objective: Treating geriatric osteoporotic distal femur fractures has always presented challenges, but developing biodegradable materials has brought new opportunities for therapeutic intervention. Despite this progress, there currently needs to be more evidence-based biomechanical guidelines for using dual plate fixation and biodegradable materials in treating osteoporotic comminuted distal femoral fractures. In this study, finite element analysis was conducted to evaluate the mechanical effectiveness of different implant materials (titanium alloys, biodegradable materials, and combinations of both) in the fixation of physiological and osteoporotic distal femoral fractures. Methods: We constructed finite element models of 33-C2 fractures and three types of plates: the Lateral Less Invasive Stabilization System (LISS) plate, the titanium-alloy medial plate (TAP), and the biodegradable plate (BP). To evaluate the biomechanical advantages in both physiological femur (PF) and osteoporotic femur (OF) conditions, three scenarios were developed: LISS + TAP, LISS + BP, and double biodegradable plates (DBPs). Five loading conditions were applied to measure structural stiffness, fracture micromotion, and implant stress: medio-lateral four-point bending, antero-posterior four-point bending, axial loading, torsional loading, and sideways falling. Several parameters were examined, including peak Von Mises Stress (VMS) of the femur and lateral plate, maximum displacement, bending angle, torsional angle of fracture, and risk of fracture. Results: In four-point bending tests, the lateral plate of the DBPs group exhibited a slightly lower peak VMS compared to the LISS + TAP and LISS + BP groups. When subjected to axial loading, the stiffness values of the LISS + TAP (OF) were 1.42 times and 1.86 times higher than LISS + BP (OF) and DBPs (OF) groups, and the peak VMS of lateral plate of DBPs (OF) construct was approximately 2% and 16% lower than that of the LISS + TAP (OF) and LISS + BP (OF) constructs. Under torsional loading, DBPs (OF) demonstrated rotational stiffness that was respectively 2% and 52% greater than that of LISS + TAP (OF) and LISS + BP (OF). Regarding the peak VMS of femur, the values of DBPs (OF) were almost 8% and 15% lower than those of LISS + TAP (OF) and LISS + BP (OF). Conclusions: The use of DBPs at 11.33 GPa facilitated early mobilization of load-bearing joints but exhibited limited ability to support full weight-bearing activities. Though LISS + TAP met practical strength requirements, one should consider the potential biological irritation and stress shielding. Thus, employing a combination of biodegradable and metal internal fixation is a valid approach to effectively treat weight-bearing joint fractures in clinical practice.

RESUMEN

Impaired fatty acid oxidation (FAO) is a prominent feature of metabolic remodeling observed in pathological myocardial hypertrophy. Hepatocyte nuclear factor 4alpha (HNF4α) is closely associated with FAO in both cellular processes and disease conditions. Pellino 1 (Peli1), an E3 ligase containing a RING-like domain, plays a crucial role in catalyzing polyubiquitination of various substrates. In this study, we aimed to investigate the involvement of HNF4α and its ubiquitination, facilitated by Peli1, in FAO during pressure overload-induced cardiac hypertrophy. Peli1 systemic knockout mice (Peli1KO) display improved myocardial hypertrophy and cardiac function following transverse aortic constriction (TAC). RNA-seq analysis revealed that changes in gene expression related to lipid metabolism caused by TAC were reversed in Peli1KO mice. Importantly, both HNF4α and its downstream genes involved in FAO showed a significant increase in Peli1KO mice. We further used the antagonist BI6015 to inhibit HNF4α and delivered rAAV9-HNF4α to elevate myocardial HNF4α level, and confirmed that HNF4α inhibits the development of cardiac hypertrophy after TAC and is essential for the enhancement of FAO mediated by Peli1 knockout. In vitro experiments using BODIPY incorporation and FAO stress assay demonstrated that HNF4α enhances FAO in cardiomyocytes stimulated with angiotension II (Ang II), while Peli1 suppresses the effect of HNF4α. Mechanistically, immunoprecipitation and mass spectrometry analyses confirmed that Peli1 binds to HNF4α via its RING-like domain and promotes HNF4α ubiquitination at residues K307 and K309. These findings shed light on the underlying mechanisms contributing to impaired FAO and offer valuable insights into a promising therapeutic strategy for addressing pathological cardiac hypertrophy.

RESUMEN

The widespread presence of soil microplastics (MPs) has become a global environmental problem. MPs of different properties (i.e., types, sizes, and concentrations) are present in the environment, while studies about the impact of MPs having different properties are limited. Thus, this study investigated the effects of three common polymers (polystyrene, polyethylene, and polypropylene) with two concentrations (0.01% and 0.1% w/w) on growth and stress response of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.), soil enzymes, and rhizosphere microbial community. Lettuce growth was inhibited under MPs treatments. Moreover, the antioxidant system, metabolism composition, and phyllosphere microbiome of lettuce leaves was also perturbed. MPs reduced phytase activity and significantly increased dehydrogenase activity. The diversity and structure of rhizosphere microbial community were disturbed by MPs and more sensitive to polystyrene microplastics (PSMPs) and polypropylene microplastics (PPMPs). In general, the results by partial least squares pathway models (PLS-PMs) showed that the presence of MPs influenced the soil-rhizosphere-plant system, which may have essential implications for assessing the environmental risk of MPs.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The aim of our meta-analysis and systematic review was to contrast the positivity rates of [68Ga]Ga-FAPI PET and [18F]FDG PET in detecting bone and lymph node metastases across diverse cancer types. METHODS: We conducted a comprehensive search for eligible articles up until August 2023, utilizing databases including PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science. Studies focusing on the positivity rate of [68Ga]Ga-FAPI PET vs. [18F]FDG PET for bone and lymph metastasis were included. Using random-effect model, the positivity rate for [68Ga]Ga-FAPI PET and [18F]FDG PET were generated. In order to gauge the heterogeneity among aggregated studies, we utilized the I2 statistic. Additionally, we applied the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Performance Studies (QUADAS-2) methodology to evaluate the caliber of the studies encompassed in our analysis. RESULTS: A total of 430 publications were initially identified in the search. Eventually, 25 studies, involving 779 patients, met the inclusion criteria. In terms of bone metastasis, the findings indicate no statistically significant difference between the use of [68Ga]Ga-FAPI PET and [18F]FDG PET (P = 0.34). However, concerning lymph node metastasis, the results demonstrate significant difference between the two imaging agents (P = 0.04). CONCLUSIONS: This systematic review suggests that [68Ga]Ga-FAPI PET appears to outperform [18F]FDG PET in detecting lymph node metastases. However, when it comes to bone metastasis, no statistically significant difference was observed. It is crucial to acknowledge that the insights concerning bone metastasis stem from studies with comparatively modest sample sizes. Consequently, there is a pressing demand for further, expansive prospective studies in this field.

RESUMEN

Advanced battery electrodes require a cautious design of microscale particles with built-in nanoscale features to exploit the advantages of both micro- and nano-particles relative to their performance attributes. Herein, the dynamic behavior of nanosized Sn clusters and their host pores in carbon nanofiber) during sodiation and desodiation is revealed using a state-of-the-art 3D electron microscopic reconstruction technique. For the first time, the anomalous expansion of Sn clusters after desodiation is observed owing to the aggregation of clusters/single atoms. Pore connectivity is retained despite the anomalous expansion, suggesting inhibition of solid electrolyte interface formation in the sub-2-nm pores. Taking advantage of the built-in nanoconfinement feature, the CNF film with nanometer-sized interconnected pores hosting Sn clusters (≈2 nm) enables high utilization (95% at a high rate of 1 A g-1) of Sn active sites while maintaining an improved initial Coulombic efficiency of 87%. The findings provide insights into electrochemical reactions in a confined space and a guiding principle in electrode design for battery applications.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Traumatic coronoid deficiency with persistent elbow instability is a challenging condition. Autologous bone graft reconstruction is often associated with a range of additional clinical problems and the outcome is often unpredictable. The purpose of this study was to design a prosthetic device that can reconstruct coronoid deficiency of any height and to evaluate its mechanical properties using finite element analysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A customized coronoid prosthesis was designed based on image registration, automatic measurement, and computer-aided design. After pilot study and sample size calculation, image data collected from 6 patients who underwent bilateral complete upper extremity CT scans were reconstructed. The test was divided into 3 groups: coronoid intact, prosthesis and autograft. Regan-Morrey type II and autologous olecranon osteotomy models were established. The prosthesis and autogenous olecranon were assembled to the coronoid base. Stress was applied axially along the proximal humeral diaphysis and implant micromotion and contact mechanics of the humeroulnar joint were measured at 30°, 45°, 60° and 90° of joint flexion respectively. RESULTS: At all flexion angles, the maximum stress on the coronoid articular surface was significantly reduced in the prosthesis and autograft groups, with the reduction being more significant in the latter (P < .001). With increasing flexion, the maximum stress at the coronoid articular surface increased significantly after autograft reconstruction (7.2 to 68 MPa, P < .001), whereas the humeroulnar joint obtained a similar contact mechanics pattern to that of the control group after prosthetic reconstruction. As the flexion angle increased, the relative micromotion of both the prosthesis and autograft increased significantly (0.5-1.6 vs. 0.2-1.2, Pmeasure time < 0.001, Pgroups < 0.001). Contact pressure and center-of-force paths of the humeroulnar joint experience abrupt stress changes at approximately 60° of flexion. CONCLUSION: The contact stress pattern in the humeroulnar joint is similar in prosthesis and intact coronoid groups. Autograft reconstruction increases contact stresses at the articular surface and alters the joint center-of-force path. The "stress surge phenomenon" in the humeroulnar joint surface before and after 60° of flexion may be one of the mechanisms of traumatic elbow degeneration.

RESUMEN

The development of urbanization has brought convenience to people, but it has also brought a lot of harmful construction solid waste. The machine vision detection algorithm is the crucial technology for finely sorting solid waste, which is faster and more stable than traditional methods. However, accurate identification relies on large datasets, while the datasets from the field working conditions are scarce, and the manual annotation cost of datasets is high. To rapidly and automatically generate datasets for stacked construction waste, an acquisition and detection platform was built to automatically collect different groups of RGB-D images for instances labeling. Then, based on the distribution points generation theory and data augmentation algorithm, a rapid-generation method for synthetic construction solid waste datasets was proposed. Additionally, two automatic annotation methods for real stacked construction solid waste datasets based on semi-supervised self-training and RGB-D fusion edge detection were proposed, and datasets under real-world conditions yield better models training results. Finally, two different working conditions were designed to validate these methods. Under the simple working condition, the generated dataset achieved an F1-score of 95.98, higher than 94.81 for the manually labeled dataset. In the complicated working condition, the F1-score obtained by the rapid generation method reached 97.74. In contrast, the F1-score of the dataset obtained manually labeled was only 85.97, which demonstrates the effectiveness of proposed approaches.

RESUMEN

In the realm of engineering rotary excavation, the rigid and brittle nature of the Polycrystal Diamond Compact (PDC) layer poses challenges to the impact resistance of conical teeth. This hinders their widespread adoption and utilization. In this paper, the Abaqus simulation is used. By optimizing the parameters of the radius of the cone top arc, we analyzed the changing law of the parameters of large-diameter D30 series conical PDC teeth, such as the equivalent force, impact force, and energy absorption of the conical teeth during the impact process, and optimized the best structure of the conical PDC teeth. After being subjected to a high temperature and high pressure, we synthesized the specimen for impact testing and analyzed the PDC layer crack extension and fracture failure. The findings reveal the emergence of a stress ring below the compacted area of the conical tooth. As the radius of the cone top arc increases, so does the area of the stress ring. When R ≥ 10 mm, the maximum stress change is minimal, and at R = 10 mm, the stress change in its top unit is relatively smooth. Optimal impact resistance is achieved, withstanding a total impact work value of 7500 J. Extrusion cracks appear in the combined layer part of PDC layers I and II, but the crack source is easy to produce in the combined layer of PDC layer II and the alloy matrix and extends to both sides, and the right side extends to the surface of the conical tooth in a "dragon-claw". The failure morphology of the conical teeth includes ring shedding at the top of the PDC layer, the lateral spalling of the PDC layer, and the overall cracking of the conical teeth. Through this study, we aim to promote the popularization and application of large-diameter conical PDC teeth in the field of engineering rotary excavation.
