To explore the differential cohort situation between preschool development of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and naturally conceived infants. From April 2014 to June 2022, 60 preschool IVFs were selected as the research subjects for follow-up at the pediatric health clinic of hospital's prevention and health department. They were set as the experimental group (Group S), and 60 naturally conceived infants of the same age were selected as the control group (Group Z). Data from both groups were collected through telephone follow-up and other methods. No significant difference showed between the 2 groups in age specific height, age specific weight, Gesell developmental score, Denver developmental screening test screening results, intellectual development index, and motor development index (P > .05). The influence of birth environment factors such as family background and maternal education level on children's height and weight was not significant (P > .05), while maternal education level had a significant impact on children's intellectual development index (P < .05). No significant difference showed in the development of preschool children in IVF compared to naturally conceived children, and the level of parental education has a significant impact on children's mental and motor development.

BACKGROUND: Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) in early adolescence has been amply documented. However, there has been little research on the progression of NSSI over time. Most studies have focused on the risk factors for NSSI, with less attention devoted to understanding the role of protective factors. This paper aimed to expand existing knowledge about the development of NSSI, with an emphasis on the impacts of protective factors such as social support and socioeconomic status (SES). METHODS: A total of 436 adolescents completed self-report surveys that addressed social support including friend, family, and teacher support, objective and subjective SES, and NSSI at three different points in time for 2 years. RESULTS: Latent growth curve analyses revealed that NSSI increased across early adolescence to mid-adolescence. Support from friends and family negatively predicted adolescents' initial NSSI level. Furthermore, subjective SES negatively predicted the rate of NSSI. CONCLUSIONS: These findings contribute to an understanding of the influences of both social support and SES on NSSI over time. NSSI interventions and education should include considerations of both the value of support from friends and family as well as subjective SES.

Basic standard samples are integral for ensuring consistency and quality control of tea. Understanding the real reasons behind the hierarchical system of Shuixian tea grades in the Chinese national standard is crucial to the scientific development of tea standardization. In this investigation, different grade samples of Shuixian tea strictly conformed to the Chinese national standard, serving as the research objects. Sensory evaluation, SEM and HS-SPME-GC-MS were employed to comprehensively analyze the aroma characteristics. The odor profiles of special grade samples predominantly featured floral and fruity aromas, which attributed to compounds such as geraniol, indole, phenylethyl alcohol. Additionally, hexanal, (E)-3-hexen-1-ol and other compounds contributed to fruity and sweet aroma in first grade. Notably, the predominant roasted and sweet aromas of second grade were attributed to compounds including pyridine, 2,5-dimethyl-pyrazine. This study lays a solid foundation for the scientific development of Chinese national standards and international standard system.

BACKGROUND: There are a growing number of studies on the effect of acupuncture on glial cells in the central nervous system; however, there are few related bibliometric analyses in this area. Therefore, the purpose of this bibliometric study was to visualize the literature on acupuncture-regulated glial cells. METHODS: On November 23, 2022, regular and review articles on acupuncture and glial cell-related research were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. The R package "bibliometrix" was used to summarize the main findings, count the occurrences of the top keywords, visualize the international collaboration network, and generate a 3-field plot. The VOSviewer software was used to conduct both co-authorship and co-occurrence analyses. CiteSpace was used to identify the best references and keywords with the highest citation rates. RESULTS: Overall, 348 publications on acupuncture and glial cells were included. The publications were primarily from China, Korea, and the United States of America. The majority of publications were found in relevant journals. Apart from "acupuncture" and "glial cells," the most frequently used keywords were "neuroinflammation," "hyperalgesia," and "pain." CONCLUSION: This bibliometric study mapped a fundamental knowledge structure comprising countries, institutions, authors, journals, and articles in the research fields of acupuncture and glial cells over the last 3 decades. These results provide a comprehensive perspective on the wider landscape of this research area.

There are presently no acknowledged therapeutic targets or official drugs for the treatment of muscle fatigue. The alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7nAChR) is expressed in skeletal muscle, with an unknown role in muscle endurance. Here, we try to explore whether α7nAChR could act as a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of muscle fatigue. Results showed that nicotine and PNU-282987 (PNU), as nonspecific and specific agonists of α7nAChR, respectively, could both significantly increase C57BL6/J mice treadmill-running time in a time- and dose-dependent manner. The improvement effect of PNU on running time and ex vivo muscle fatigue index disappeared when α7nAChR deletion. RNA sequencing revealed that the differential mRNAs affected by PNU were enriched in glycolysis/gluconeogenesis signaling pathways. Further studies found that PNU treatment significantly elevates glycogen content and ATP level in the muscle tissues of α7nAChR+/+ mice but not α7nAChR-/- mice. α7nAChR activation specifically increased endogenous glycogen-targeting protein orosomucoid (ORM) expression both in vivo skeletal muscle tissues and in vitro C2C12 skeletal muscle cells. In ORM1 deficient mice, the positive effects of PNU on running time, glycogen and ATP content, as well as muscle fatigue index, were abolished. Therefore, the activation of α7nAChR could enhance muscle endurance via elevating endogenous anti-fatigue protein ORM and might act as a promising therapeutic strategy for the treatment of muscle fatigue.

This study aims to develop an effective bivalent subunit vaccine that is promising to prevent both porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV) and porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV). The receptor-binding domains (RBDs) of PDCoV and PEDV were fused and cloned into the eukaryotic expression vector pCDNA3.1(+). The fusion protein PDCoV-RBD-PEDV-RBD (pdRBD-peRBD) was expressed by the ExpiCHOTM expression system and purified. Mice were immunized with the fusion protein at three different doses (10, 20, and 30 µg). The humoral immune response and cellular immune response induced by the fusion protein were evaluated by ELISA and flow cytometry. The neutralization titers of the serum of immunized mice against PDCoV and PEDV were determined by the microneutralization test. The results showed that high levels of IgG antibodies were induced in the three different dose groups after booster immunization, and there was no significant difference in the antibody level between different dose groups, indicating that the immunization dose of 10 µg could achieve the fine immune effect. The results of flow cytometry showed that the immunization groups demonstrated increased proportion of CD3+CD4+ T cells and decreased proportion of CD3+CD8+ T cells, which was consistent with the expectation about the humoral immune response induced by the subunit vaccine. At the same time, the levels of interleukin (IL)-2, IL-4, and interferon (IFN)-γ in the serum were determined. The results showed that the fusion protein induced both humoral immune effect and cellular immune response. The results of the neutralization test showed that the antibody induced by 10 µg fusion protein neutralized both PDCoV and PEDV in vitro, with the titers of 1:179.25 and 1:141.21, respectively. The above results suggested that the pdRBD-peRBD could induce a high level of humoral immune response at a dose of 10 µg, and the induced antibody could neutralize both PDCoV and PEDV. Therefore, the fusion protein pdRBD-peRBD is expected to be an effective subunit vaccine that can simultaneously prevent PDCoV and PEDV.

Background: When resuscitating patients with septic shock, cerebrovascular reactivity parameters are calculated by monitoring regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2) using near-infrared spectroscopy to determine the optimal blood pressure. Here, we aimed to analyze the impact of cerebral autoregulation-directed optimal blood pressure management on the incidence of delirium and the prognosis of patients with septic shock. Methods: This prospective randomized controlled clinical study was conducted in the Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, China. Fifty-one patients with septic shock (December 2020-May 2022) were enrolled and randomly allocated to the experimental (n=26) or control group (n=25). Using the ICM+ software, we monitored the dynamic changes in rSO2 and mean arterial pressure (MAP) and calculated the cerebrovascular reactivity parameter tissue oxygen reactivity index to determine the optimal blood pressure to maintain normal cerebral autoregulation function during resuscitation in the experimental group. The control group was treated according to the Surviving Sepsis Campaign Guidelines. Differences in the incidence of delirium and 28-day mortality between the two groups were compared, and the risk factors were analyzed. Results: The 51 patients, including 39 male and 12 female, had a mean age of (57.0±14.9) years. The incidence of delirium was 40.1% (23/51), and the 28-day mortality rate was 29.4% (15/51). The mean MAP during the first 24 h of intensive care unit (ICU) admission was higher ([84.5±12.2] mmHg vs. [77.4±11.8] mmHg, P=0.040), and the incidence of delirium was lower (30.8% vs. 60.0%, P=0.036) in the experimental group than in the control group. The use of cerebral autoregulation-directed optimal blood pressure (odds ratio [OR]=0.090, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.009 to 0.923, P=0.043) and length of ICU stay (OR=1.473, 95% CI: 1.093 to 1.985, P=0.011) were risk factors for delirium during septic shock. Vasoactive drug dose (OR=8.445, 95% CI: 1.26 to 56.576, P=0.028) and partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2) (OR=0.958, 95% CI: 0.921 to 0.996, P=0.032) were the risk factors for 28-day mortality. Conclusions: The use of cerebral autoregulation-directed optimal blood pressure management during shock resuscitation reduces the incidence of delirium in patients with septic shock. A cellulose-based carbon aerogel (CTN) loaded with titanium dioxide (TiO2) and graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) was prepared using sol-gel, freeze-drying, and high-temperature carbonization methods. The formation of the sol-gel was carried out through a one-pot method using refining papermaking pulp, tetrabutyl titanate, and urea as raw materials and hectorite as a cross-linking and reinforcing agent. Due to the cross-linking ability of hectorite, the carbonized aerogel maintained a porous structure and had a large specific surface area with low density (0.0209 g/cm3). The analysis of XRD, XPS, and Raman spectra revealed that the titanium dioxide (TiO2) and graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) were uniformly distributed in the CTN, while TEM and SEM observations demonstrated the uniformly distributed three-dimensional porous structure of CTN. The photocatalytic activity of the CTN was determined according to its ability to degrade rhodamine B. The removal rate reached 89% under visible light after 120 min. In addition, the CTN was still stable after five reuse cycles. The proposed catalyst exhibits excellent photocatalytic performance under visible light conditions.

Anion exchange membrane (AEM) water electrolysis employing non-precious metal electrocatalysts is a promising strategy for achieving sustainable hydrogen production. However, it still suffers from many challenges, including sluggish alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) kinetics, insufficient activity and limited lifetime of non-precious metal electrocatalysts for ampere-level-current-density alkaline HER. Here, we report an efficient alkaline HER strategy at industrial-level current density wherein a flexible WS2 superstructure is designed to serve as the cathode catalyst for AEM water electrolysis. The superstructure features bond-free van der Waals interaction among the low Young's modulus nanosheets to ensure excellent mechanical flexibility, as well as a stepped edge defect structure of nanosheets to realize high catalytic activity and a favorable reaction interface micro-environment. The unique flexible WS2 superstructure can effectively withstand the impact of high-density gas-liquid exchanges and facilitate mass transfer, endowing excellent long-term durability under industrial-scale current density. An AEM electrolyser containing this catalyst at the cathode exhibits a cell voltage of 1.70 V to deliver a constant catalytic current density of 1 A cm-2 over 1000 h with a negligible decay rate of 9.67 µV h-1.

Accurate detection of heterogeneous circulating tumor cells (CTCs) is critical as they can make tumor cells more aggressive, drug-resistant, and metastasizing. Although the leukocyte membrane coating strategy is promising in meeting the challenge of detecting heterogeneous CTCs due to its inherent antiadhesive properties, it is still limited by the reduction or loss of expression of known markers. Bioorthogonal glycol-metabolic engineering is expected to break down this barrier by feeding the cells with sugar derivatives with a unique functional group to establish artificial targets on the surface of tumor cells. Herein, an engineered leukocyte biomimetic colorimetric sensor was accordingly fabricated for high-efficient detection of heterogeneous CTCs. Compared with conventional leukocyte membrane coating, the sensor could covalently bound to the heterogeneous CTCs models fed with Ac4ManNAz in vitro through the synergy of bioorthogonal chemistry and metabolic glycoengineering, ignoring the phenotypic changes of heterogeneous CTCs. Meanwhile, a sandwich structure composed of leukocyte biomimetic layer/CTCs/MoS2 nanosheet was formed for visual detection of HeLa cells as low as 10 cells mL-1. Overall, this approach can overcome the dependence of conventional cell membrane biomimetic technology on specific cell phenotypes and provide a new viewpoint to highly efficiently detect heterogeneous CTCs.

Addressing burdens of electronic waste (E-waste) leachate while achieving sustainable and selective recovery of noble metals, such as gold, is highly demanded due to its limited supply and escalating prices. Here we demonstrate an environmentally-benign and practical approach for gold recovery from E-waste leachate using alginate-derived pyrocarbon sorbent. The sorbent demonstrates potent gold recovery performance compared to most previously reported advanced sorbents, showcasing high recovery capacity of 2829.7 mg g-1, high efficiency (>99.5%), remarkable selectivity (Kd ~ 3.1 × 108 mL g-1), and robust anti-interference capabilities within environmentally relevant contexts. The aromatic structures of pyrocarbon serve as crucial electrons sources, enabling a hydroxylation process that simultaneously generates electrons and phenolic hydroxyls for the reduction of gold ions. Our investigations further uncover a "stepwise" nucleation mechanism, in which gold ions are reduced as intermediate gold-chlorine clusters, facilitating rapid reduction process by lowering energy barriers from 1.08 to -21.84 eV. Technoeconomic analysis demonstrates its economic viability with an input-output ratio as high as 1370%. Our protocol obviates the necessity for organic reagents whilst obtaining 23.96 karats gold product from real-world central processing units (CPUs) leachates. This work introduces a green sorption technique for gold recovery, emphasizing its role in promoting a circular economy and environmental sustainability.

BACKGROUND: The role of Claudin-1 in tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC) metastasis needs further clarification, particularly its impact on cell migration. Herein, our study aims to investigate the role of Claudin-1 in TSCC cell migration and its underlying mechanisms. METHODS: 36 TSCC tissue samples underwent immunohistochemical staining for Claudin-1. Western blotting and immunofluorescence analyses were conducted to evaluate Claudin-1 expression and distribution in TSCC cells. Claudin-1 knockdown cell lines were established using short hairpin RNA transfection. Migration effects were assessed through wound healing assays. Furthermore, the expression of EMT-associated molecules was measured via western blotting. RESULTS: Claudin-1 expression decreased as TSCC malignancy increased. Adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activation led to increased Claudin-1 expression and membrane translocation, inhibiting TSCC cell migration and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Conversely, Claudin-1 knockdown reversed these inhibitory effects on migration and EMT caused by AMPK activation. CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicated that AMPK activation suppresses TSCC cell migration by targeting Claudin-1 and EMT pathways.

BACKGROUND: Left-behind adolescents are vulnerable to stressful life events and often engage in nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI), which is a growing public concern in China. However, little is known about the synergistic protective effect of family resources on the relationship between stressful life events and NSSI in these adolescents. OBJECTIVE: Based on theories of family socialization and resilience, the aim of this study was to examine the synergistic protective role of maternal knowledge and mother-child cohesion in buffering the effect of stressful life events on NSSI in father-absent left-behind adolescents. METHODS: This study used two-wave longitudinal data. The analytical sample included 673 adolescents (Mage = 13.47 ± 1.11 years, 48 % male) who were enlisted from 4 junior high schools in rural China. Respondents completed questionnaires on stressful life events, parental knowledge, parent-child cohesion, and NSSI at two-time points. RESULTS: The effects of stressful life events on NSSI were significant in father-absent left-behind adolescents. Additionally, maternal knowledge moderated the associations between stressful life events and NSSI in father-absent left-behind adolescents. Moreover, maternal knowledge and mother-child cohesion were found to play synergistic protective roles in the relationship between stressful life events and NSSI. In father-absent left-behind adolescents, only high maternal knowledge and high-quality mother-child cohesion could eliminate the negative effect of stressful life events on NSSI. CONCLUSION: The findings underscore the synergistic protective roles of maternal knowledge and mother-child cohesion in buffering the negative effect of stressful life events on NSSI in father-absent left-behind adolescents. Both maternal knowledge and mother-child cohesion should be considered in interventions aimed at reducing NSSI in these adolescents.

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of mortality on a global scale. Individuals who possess risk factors for cardiovascular disease, such as high blood pressure (BP) and obesity, face an elevated risk of experiencing organ-specific pathophysiological changes. This damage includes pathophysiological changes in the heart and peripheral vascular systems, such as ventricular hypertrophy, arterial stiffening, and vascular narrowing and stenosis. Consequently, these damages are associated with an increased risk of developing severe cardiovascular outcomes including stroke, myocardial infarction, heart failure, and coronary heart disease. Among all the risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure emerges as the most prominent. However, conventional resting BP measurement methods such as auscultatory or oscillometric methods may fail to identify many individuals with asymptomatic high BP. Recently, exercise BP has emerged as a valuable diagnostic tool for identifying real (high) blood pressure levels and assessing underlying cardiovascular risk, in addition to resting BP measurements in adults. Furthermore, numerous established factors, such as low cardiorespiratory fitness and high body fatness, have been confirmed to contribute to exercise BP and the associated cardiovascular risk. Modifying these factors may help reduce high exercise BP and, consequently, alleviate the burden of cardiovascular disease. A significant body of evidence has demonstrated cardiovascular disease in later life have their origins in early life. Children and adolescents with these cardiovascular risk factors also possess a greater propensity to develop cardiovascular diseases later in life. Nevertheless, the majority of previous studies on the clinical utility of exercise BP have been conducted in middle-to-older aged populations, often with pre-existing clinical conditions. Therefore, there is a need to investigate further of the factors influencing exercise BP in adolescence and its association with cardiovascular risk in early life. Our previously published work showed that exercise BP is a potential useful method to detect adolescents with increased cardiovascular risk. Children and adolescents with cardiovascular risk factors are more likely to develop cardiovascular diseases later in life. However, previous studies on the clinical utility of exercise BP have largely focused on middle-to-older aged populations with pre-existing clinical conditions. Therefore, there is a need to investigate further the factors influencing exercise BP in adolescence and its association with future cardiovascular risk. Our previous studies, which focused on exercise BP measured at submaximal intensity, have shown that exercise BP is a potentially useful method for identifying adolescents at increased cardiovascular risk. Our previous findings suggest that improving cardio-respiratory fitness and reducing body fatness may help to reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and improve overall cardiovascular health. These findings have important implications for the development of effective prevention and early detection strategies, which can contribute to improved public health outcomes.

The absence of effective therapeutic targets poses considerable obstacles to the treatment of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). This study aimed to explore the function and mechanism of polysaccharides derived from the aerial parts of Tetrastigma hemsleyanum (THP) for the treatment of TNBC. THP exerts notable anti-TNBC effects when used alone, and its combination with Doxorubicin (DOX) effectively augments the sensitivity of TNBC cells to DOX. Through RNA sequencing, Fe2+ assays, western blotting, and transmission electron microscopy, THP was identified as a natural inducer of ferroptosis and ferritinophagy through the xCT/GSH/GPX4 and Nrf2/NCOA4/FTH1 pathways. Further research revealed that the THP branched-chain hexose directly binds to the xCT protein to inhibit its expression and promotes ferroptosis. In vivo experiments confirmed the role of THP in inducing ferroptosis and showed that THP improves the tumor microenvironment and immune function by increasing the ratio of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells to regulatory T cells and modulating cytokine levels. As demonstrated by electrocardiography, blood chemistry, and histological analyses, THP alleviates organ toxicity caused by DOX. Overall, these results suggest that THP has significant clinical potential as a natural macromolecular drug and may provide a safe and effective treatment strategy for TNBC when combined with DOX.

As the central members of the microbiome networks, viruses regulate the composition of microbial communities and drive the nutrient cycles of ecosystems by lysing host cells. Therefore, uncovering the dynamic patterns and the underlying ecological mechanisms mediating the tiniest viral communities across space and through time in natural ecosystems is of crucial importance for better understanding the complex microbial world. Here, the temporal dynamics of intertidal viral communities were investigated via a time-series sampling effort. A total of 1911 viral operational taxonomic units were recovered from 36 bimonthly collected shotgun metagenomes. Functionally important auxiliary metabolic genes involved in carbohydrate, sulfur, and phosphorus metabolism were detected, some of which (e.g., cysH gene) were stably present within viral genomes over time. Over the sampling period, strong and comparable temporal turnovers were observed for intertidal viromes and their host microbes. Winter was determined as the pivotal point for the shifts in viral diversity patterns. Notably, the viral micro-diversity covaried with the macro-diversity, following similar temporal patterns. The relative abundances of viral taxa also covaried with their host prokaryotes. Meanwhile, the virus-host relationships at the whole community level were relatively stable. Further statistical analyses demonstrated that the dynamic patterns of viral communities were highly deterministic, for which temperature was the major driver. This study provided valuable mechanistic insights into the temporal turnover of viral communities in complex ecosystems such as intertidal wetlands.

A highly sensitive Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) sensor coupled magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers nanoparticles (MMIPs NPs) was developed and validated for the determination of 6-benzylaminopurine (6-BA) in vegetables. MMIPs NPs were synthesized using methacrylic acid (MAA) and sodium p-styrene sulfonate (SSS) as functional monomers. The SPR exhibited a linear dependence on 6-BA concentration in the range 5-300 pg/mL with a low limit of detection (3.02 pg/mL) and limit of quantitation (10.08 pg/mL). The SPR signal of 6-BA-captured MAA/SSS-MMIPs NPs is higher than those of the structural analogues (6-KT and 2-IP: 1.72 and 2.12 times) and the non-structural analogues (2, 4-D and NAA: 2.31 and 2.57 times), indicating the SPR sensor has good selectivity for 6-BA. The recovery of the established method was between 93.8% and 108.6% with a coefficient of variation less than 9.2% in four vegetables. This SPR sensor shows great potential in detecting 6-BA in more vegetables.

The human auricle has a complex structure, and microtia is a congenital malformation characterized by decreased size and loss of elaborate structure in the affected ear with a high incidence. Our previous studies suggest that inadequate cell migration is the primary cytological basis for the pathogenesis of microtia, however, the underlying mechanism is unclear. Here, we further demonstrate that microtia chondrocytes show a decreased directional persistence during cell migration. Directional persistence can define a leading edge associated with oriented movement, and any mistakes would affect cell function and tissue morphology. By the screening of motility-related genes and subsequent confirmations, active Rac1 (Rac1-GTP) is identified to be critical for the impaired directional persistence of microtia chondrocytes migration. Moreover, Rho guanine nucleotide exchange factors (GEFs) and Rho GTPase-activating proteins (GAPs) are detected, and overexpression of Tiam1 significantly upregulates the level of Rac1-GTP and improves directional migration in microtia chondrocytes. Consistently, decreased expression patterns of Tiam1 and active Rac1 are found in microtia mouse models, Bmp5se/J and Prkralear-3J/GrsrJ. Collectively, our results provide new insights into microtia development and therapeutic strategies of tissue engineering for microtia patients.
