RESUMEN

An experimental model of gastroduodenitis combined with hyperlipidemia was used to study the effects of the product Zolotoi rog (Golden Horn) which is a composition of biologically active substances of marine organisms and honey. It was found that a course administration of Zolotoi rog in a dose 2.5 mg/kg b.w. improves histomorphology of gastric mucosa, acts hypolipidemically, raises reserves of the antioxidant system of the body and suppresses intensity of lipid peroxidation.

RESUMEN

The experimental data on the study of the antibacterial and immunomodulating activity of phucoidan, a sulfatated polymer from brown algae (phucan sulfate), were generalized and it was shown that phucoidan was able to markedly inhibit the growth of gramnegative and grampositive organisms and to stimulate immunoreactions of the humoral and cellular types, as well as phagocytosis. The possible use of phucoidan as a drug with associated antibacterial and immunomodulating activity is discussed.

RESUMEN

Immunomodulating activity of zosterin was studied. Zosterin is a pectin from sea grass belonging to Zostera with pronounced antibacterial activity and therapeutic efficacy in experimental infections. It was shown that parenteral administration of the drug 24 hours before the antigenic irritation stimulated the humoral and cellular immunity in F1 (CBA X C 57 BL/6) mice: an increase in the number of the antibody cells in the spleen, the DTH and the index of the splenocyte spontaneous proliferation. In the animals treated with injections of zosterin and infected intraperitoneally with a virulent strain of S. enteritidis there was observed a marked increase in migration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes to the abdominal cavity accompanied by an increase in their phagocytic activity. The results suggested the possible use of zosterin as a drug with associated antibacterial and immunomodulating activities.

RESUMEN

The kinetics of the antibacterial activity of zosterin, a polysaccharide preparation of a sea grass belonging to Zoster, was studied. By its chemical structure zosterin is a low ++methoxylated pectin. In vitro the preparation markedly inhibited the growth of ++Gram-negative and ++Gram-positive organisms: S. aureus, E. coli, Y. pseudotuberculosis, S. typhimurium and Ps. aeruginosa. On a model of experimental pseudotuberculosis++ infection caused by oral contamination of mice F1 (CBA X C57B1) with a suspension of Y. pseudotuberculosis zosterin was shown to have a therapeutic effect. It protected 30 to 40 per cent of the animals when administered per os simultaneously with or 24 hours after the contamination. The results are in favour of the zosterin further investigation as a preparation useful in prevention of intestinal infections in persons being in contact with the patients.

RESUMEN

The authors presented experimental data on the assessment of radiation pathomorphosis of squamous cell carcinoma (RShM-2) in mice after single total irradiation at a dose of --Gy using radiomodifiers in various combinations. Blood flow inhibition used independently was shown to be and important factor in the implementation of the radiation antitumor effect. Good results were obtained in the combined use of blood flow inhibition and short-term induced hyperglycemia, the best results were achieved with the combined use of radiomodifiers during blood flow inhibition.

RESUMEN

The effect of triterpene glycosides synthesized on the basis of betulafolientriol, ginsenoside Rb1 from gingseng, betulafolientriol and its 3-epimer on the growth of the Ehrlich tumor cell cultures was studied. It was shown that, in relation to the quantitative composition and sites of carbohydrate residue linkage to aglycone as well as configuration of the alpha- or beta-hydroxyl group at C-3, the activity of the triterpenoids of the dammaranic series changed within wide ranges. 3- and 12-0-beta-D-glycosides of 3-epibetulafolientriol proved to be the most active.

RESUMEN

The effect of the increased levels of cholesterol in ascites tumor cells of mouse sarcoma 37 on the cytochemical activity of 4 triterpene glycosides was studied. A definite correlation between the increase in the cholesterol level in the cells and the glycoside activity was noted. The effect character of some triterpene glycosides depended on the pH value of the medium.
