[Hypophyseal-adreno-gonadal system function in myasthenia patients with tumorous and nontumorous pathology of the thymus]. / Sostoianie gipofizarno-adrenogonadnoi sistemy u bol'nykh miasteniei pri opukholevoi i neopukholevoi patologii vilochkovoi zhelezy.

Overall twenty-five patients (all women) who ranged from 16 to 56 years old were examined. They were divided into two groups: group I was formed of subjects with hyperplasia of the thymus gland, group II--thymoma. Blood serum levels of prolactin, progesterone, estriol, estradiol, testosterone hydrocortisone. All patients showed a significant increase in average blood plasma levels of estrogens, testosterone and prolactin. Average levels of progesterone and hydrocortisone in patients with thymus hypertrophy were lower than in controls, while in thymoma patients these were much higher. The data submitted are indicative of substantial differences in the endocrine status of myasthenia patients depending on tumor or nontumor lesion of the thymus gland, which fact may suggest different pathogenetic mechanisms of development of the condition.

[A method for intermittent hypoxic exposures in the combined treatment of bronchial asthma patients]. / Metod preryvistykh gipoksicheskikh vozdeistvii v kompleksnom lechenii bol'nykh bronkhial'noi astmoi.

The method of intermittent increasing normobaric isocapnic hypoxia was used for the treatment of bronchial asthma. The parameters of respiration, metabolism, free-radical processes and immune system were monitored before and after training. The therapeutic diagnostic complex "Hypotron" (Ukraine), which allowed to determine the individual reactivity of the patient's respiratory system, tolerance to hypoxia, and to choose an optimal program of treatment, was used. The hypoxic training resulted in considerable increase of lung vital capacity, maximal ventilation and forced expired velocity. Normalization of initially increased free radical processes, accompanied by a decrease in the lipid peroxidation products was observed. The hypoxic training positively influenced specific and nonspecific immunological status, and appeared to be associated with a far better stimulation of lymphocytes and neutrophils.

Arthralgia and arthritis may be one of the early signs of hepatic diseases. Comparison of the course of the articular syndrome with the biochemical and immunological data (cationic proteins, NAD, NADP, antigenic markers of viral hepatitis, T lymphocyte subpopulations, and so forth) allowed one to establish a relationship between the parameters studied, to define an important role they play in early diagnosis of liver injuries, in predicting the course of the autoimmune process in active hepatitis. Extracorporeal methods of treatment for chronic hepatic diseases are an important prophylactic and therapeutic factor in the correction of pathogenetic alterations underlying the diseases.
