RESUMEN

The electrophoretic behavior of the 111In-DTPA radiopharmaceutical has been investigated. The stability constant, diffusion coefficient and effective charge of the complex as well as the temperature dependence of the electrophoretic mobility were determined. No-carrier-added 111In with high specific activity was used in the electrophoretic experiments in ultramicroconcentrations (10(-9)M).

RESUMEN

The accumulation of radionuclides in Black Sea marine ecosystems was investigated by low level gamma spectrometry. Artificial as well as natural radionuclides were determined in bottom sediments samples from 35 reference locations along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, evenly distributed from the Rumanian to the Turkish border including the main Black Sea resorts and rivers. The measurement of radionuclides in sea bed sediments was carried out during six consecutive seasons using a HPGe detector. The data obtained show that the nuclide concentrations depend strongly on the sediment nature. Results for sandy sediments are within close range, while those for slime and silt vary to a much greater extent. The radionuclide content in the sandy sediments of the main Black Sea resorts is at the lowest limit of the determined values. Small seasonal changes of radionuclide concentration in sandy sediments were observed while greater variations in slime and silt occur. From the data obtained 134Cs/137Cs and 137Csmeas/137CsChern ratios are calculated to determine the Chernobyl part of the measured 137Cs. The activities determined in the sediments for natural radionuclides correspond to those cited in the literature for natural levels, showing no additional anthropogenic contamination. A data base for the nuclide concentration values was created which will enable the modeling of radionuclide transfers by estimation of their concentration variations, accumulation and influence on the marine ecosystems.

RESUMEN

Endorectal ultrasound examination is known mainly as a method of examination of the prostate gland. In this report results are presented of the use of this method in patients with tumors of the rectum or of the adjacent organs, with the purpose of evaluating the relation of the tumor to the intestinal wall. In 7 cases gamma 4 with cancer of the colon and 1 with benign tumor, 1 patient with cancer of the uterine cervix and 1 patient with recurrent tumor in the pararectal space) the results of endorectal ultrasound examination matched the data of the histopathologic examination (in 6 cases) and with the clinical course of the disease (in 1 case) followed up over a period of 5 years. It is suggested that endorectal echography has a place as supplementary method of examination in patients with malignant tumors in the rectal area; the accumulated information will help to choose the therapeutic approach.

RESUMEN

The overall ion mobilities u of carrier-free radiobismuth have been measured in aqueous solutions of some dicarboxylic acids (H(2)L)-xalic, fumaric and succinic-by means of a new version of the electromigration method in electrolytes consisting of HClO(4)/H(2)L, 0.20m H(+), mu = 0.20m; Na(H)ClO(4)/H(2)L, 0.05m H(+), mu = 0.20m; Na(H)ClO(4)/H(2)L, 0.05m H(+), mu = 0.25m; at 298.15 K. Mathematical processing of the experimental functions u = f([L(2-)]) allowed calculation of the mean individual stability constants K(n) and ion mobilities u degrees of the complex ions [BiL(n)](3-2n), n = 1, 2: [Bi(C(2)O(4))](+), log K(1) = 7.65 (8), u degrees = +2.26 (5) x 10(-4) cm(2). sec(-1).V(-1); [Bi(C(2)O(4))(2)](-), log K(2) = 4.81 (2), u degrees = -1.63 (64) x 10(-4) cm(2).sec(-1).V(-1); [Bi(C(4)O(4)H(2))](+), log K(1) = 6.90 (20); [Bi(C(4)O(4)H(4))](+), log K(1) = 8.76 (48).

RESUMEN

Studied was the occurrence of enzootic bovine leukosis as dependent on the use of semen of leukosis-affected bulls for the artificial insemination of cows and heifers and their offsprings in the F1 generation on 16 farms. Semen was used of a total of 30 bulls of the Holstein-Friesian, American Brown, and European Black-and-white breeds. The agar gel immuno-diffusion test was employed to establish antibodies to the bovine leukosis virus in the sera of the bulls. On 9 farms with 2,997 cows and heifers that were negative for leukosis antibodies a total of 800 female calves (F1) were born. Serologic investigations of both dams and calves, aged 2 to 5 years revealed no leukosis antibodies. On other 7 farms with 1,717 cows and heifers, among which sporadic carriers of BLV-antibodies were discovered, 713 female offsprings (F1) were born. Seventeen (2.38 per cent) out of these responded positively for BLV antibodies. Twenty-two (3.0 percent) of the dams following calving also showed a positive reaction. Over the 1981-1985 period a total of 1,593 female calves were born as the offsprings of 4,714 cattle on all 16 farms. The percent of the positively responding to leukosis was 1.06, resp., 1.38. These results were considered indicative in ruling out the transmission of enzootic bovine leukosis with semen in the artificial insemination of cows and their F1 offsprings.

RESUMEN

Colorimetric analysis, biochemical methods, and the complement-fixation test were employed to study 3 Australian and 5 Bulgarian strains of Brucella ovis. Determined were some biochemical manifestations, the adaptation capacity with regard to aerobic conditions of cultivation without serum, the amount of polysaccharides contained in the strains, and the properties of the antigens obtained as checked via CFT. Milanov's method was employed for antigen production. Three of the Bulgarian strains showed definite advantages in the commercial production of antigens for the serologic diagnosis of the Brucella ovis infection in sheep.

RESUMEN

In vitro experiments have shown that PGF2 alpha or indomethacin produces different effects on muscle strips isolated from different compartments of sheep complex stomach. PGF2 alpha (10(-6) - 10(-5) M) increases the tone of the ruminal preparations and exerts a negligible effect on the reticulum and omasum strips. Indomethacin (5 X 10(-6) M) inhibits the mechanical activity of the rumen and omasum and has no effect on that of the reticulum. More pronounced are the effects on the different parts of the abomasum: PGF2 alpha (10(-9) - 10(-6) M) markedly increases the tone of the proximal abomasum and decreased the amplitude and the phasic contractions of the antral abomasum; indomethacin (5 X 10(-6) M) inhibits the tone and the phasic contractions of the middle abomasum. PGF2 alpha (10(-9) - 10(-6) M) inhibits while indomethacin (5 X 10(-6) M) stimulates the contractile activity of the antral abomasum.

RESUMEN

In the majority of experiments the ruminal preparations did not exhibit spontaneous electrical and contractile activity but showed a Ca-dependent spike-free myogenic tone. Ba2+ or Sr2+ evoked spike activity and phasic contractions and increased the muscle tonic tension. Tetraethylammonium (TEA) exerted no effect on the ruminal preparations but potentiated the effect of Ba2+. Acetylcholine (ACh) induced dose-dependent spike-free tonic contractions which were verapamil resistant and were suppressed by sodium nitroprusside. When applied to BaCl2- or TEA-pretreated preparations ACh caused spike activity and phasic contractions. The antral abomasum exhibited a spontaneous electrical activity--slow waves on which spike potentials were superimposed. ACh and TEA induced membrane depolarization and increased the spike activity and the phasic contraction amplitude.

RESUMEN

In vitro experiments were carried out on muscle strips from different compartments of sheep complex stomach. The following conclusions were drawn: 1. In Ca2+-free medium containing EDTA (0.5 mM) proximal and antral abomasum preparations are mechanically inactive. The addition of BaCl2 (0.2-1 mM) induces phasic contractions in the rumen and antrum strips. In contrast to the simple stomach Ba2+ causes a significant increase in the tone of the rumen and proximal abomasum preparations. This tonic contraction is verapamil resistant and is completely suppressed by sodium nitroprusside. 2. The Ba2+ effect is not mediated by cholinergic or adrenergic systems. Ba2+ can substitute Ca2+ in generating both phasic and tonic contractions in complex stomach smooth muscles. 3. Compared with the simple stomach Mn2+ (0.2-0.8 mM) influences neither the ACh-induced activity in normal nutrient medium nor the tone of the rumen and proximal abomasum preparations in Ca2+-free solution.

RESUMEN

The results of colonoscopy in 567 patients with malignant tumors of the colon have shown that in 10,0% of cases there were errors in primary endoscopic diagnosis due to inferior examination of the colon, missing of malignant tumors, misinterpretation of the alterations revealed. The authors believe that a single endoscopic examination can not be considered decisive, especially when tumor had been clinically or roentgenologically suspected. Only repeated dynamic observations during 12-14 months with 1-3 month intervals can give final conclusions. The authors believe the thorough early analysis, knowledge of endoscopic symptoms, correct estimation of the data of colonoscopy and biopsy to allow avoiding serious diagnostic errors in future.

RESUMEN

Atypically developing chicken septicemia was studied at 3 farms in Bulgaria. In one of the observed centers of chicken septicemia infection no pathologic anatomical changes were evident while in the other two centers of infection serofibrinose and serofibrinose vitelline peritonitis, as well as pleurisy were present. In the bacteriological investigation carried out on 2969 samples 233 strains of chicken septicemia were isolated. Identification of 84 of them by the aid of the specific bacteriophage P. multocida 115 and of sugar and alcohol fermantation revealed that they can be classified as P. multocida. They are lyzated by a phage but do not reproduce it. Chicken septicemia cultures are virulent for white mice. In intramuscular injections of pullets these cultures prove not virulent, but their intravenous application kills the pullets in 5--10 days and the initial strain is isolated from all inner organs. The biological test on pullets is suitable for determining chicken septicemia culture virulence.

RESUMEN

A total of 231 strains of Listeria organisms have been isolated during the last 14 years from adult sheep, lambs, fetuses, and ensilaged forage. Their differentiation have shown that 67 of them belong to the 1 st serotype, 77 -- to 4 c, and 26 have been determined as strains of the 5th serotype. The biochemical study on 170 of the strains have revealed that: more of them, belong to the 1 st, 4 c, and 5 th serotype break down dextrose, trehalose, levulose, salycin, esculin, ramnose, and glycerin. They do not produce hydrogen sulfide and indol, do not liquefy gelatin, and are negative for adonite and inulin. Not all prove catalase-Foges-Proskauer- and methylred--positive.

RESUMEN

Isolated were a total of 33 Streptococcus strains during two enzootics in adult and young chickens. Their cultural, morphologic, and biochemical aspects were studied in order to elucidate the biotype to which they belonged. Taking into consideration their capacity to ferment trehalose and the fact that they failed to ferment sorbite along with their beta-hemolytic activity, belonging to serologic group C, these Streptococcus cultures were determined as Streptococcus pyogenes hum. C.
