RESUMEN

Virological and cytogenetic characterization of line RH and its two clones (RHk-20 and RHk-13/6), having different sensitivity to the tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBE), has been made. The RHk-13/6-cells are 10,000 times more sensitive to cytopathic effect of the tick-borne encephalitis virus in comparison with the RHk-20-cells. By its sensitivity to the virus the base line is in the intermediate position. Cytogenetic analysis revealed the variability interval decrease as to the chromosome number at cloning, and showed the structural stability of the line and clone karyotypes. The line RH and its clone K-20 have modal number of chromosomes equal to 65; the cell population with the chromosome number equal to 66 dominated in RHk-13/6. The application of methods of chromosome differential (G, C) staining and these for the detection of active nucleolar organizers (NO) permitted identifying the marker chromosomes and determining the difference between the clones and the line as associated with the presence of an additional homologue of chromosome 8 in the sensitive clone.

RESUMEN

The status of the interferon system was studied in 100 schizophrenics, in 40 of them over time (during exacerbation of the process and after psychotropic therapy). It has been established that the lymphocyte production of alpha- and gamma-interferon is depressed during exacerbation of the disease. Following treatment lymphocyte production of alpha-interferon remained low, while the production of gamma-interferon normalized.

RESUMEN

Cytogenetical study of bone marrow cells of mice infected with pathogenic and attenuated strains of Venezuelan (VEE) and Eastern (EEE) equine encephalomyelitis viruses was carried out to elucidate the pattern of changes of the chromosomal apparatus in the infected animals, and differences in the effect of strains with different degree of pathogenicity on the cell during mitosis. It was shown that inoculation of mice with pathogenic and attenuated VEE and EEE virus strains led to the appearance in the bone marrow of a larger number of aberrant cells. Both VEE virus strain induced a significant increase both of the total number of aberrant cells and of the cells with true aberrations. The pathogenic and attenuated EEE virus strains also caused a marked increase in the number of aberrant cells, but while the number of true aberrant cells is significant for the pathogenic strain, the attenuated strain causes an insignificant change in this parameter.

RESUMEN

A comparative study of reproduction of Venezuelan and Eastern equine encephalomyelitis (VEE and EEE) viruses in L cell culture showed the disorders of the mitotic activity of the infected cultures to depend on the variant of the inoculated virus and the degree of its attenuation. The highest number of pathological mitosis was observed within 12--24 hours after inoculation of the cultures, the attenuated variants of both the viruses causing lower numbers of pathological mitoses than virulent variants. EEE virus was found to induce accumulation of pyknotized nuclei in the stage of telophase in the culture.
