RESUMEN

The authors studied the rat brain after prolonged (up to 18 months) alcohol intoxication as well as the progeny of female rats after alcohol consumption for 4 months. Some changes in the activity of acetyl cholinesterase and monoamine oxidase in different structures of the brain in parents and progeny were unidirectional while others were not. Other findings included a weight loss during alcoholization and a decline in the fertility and viability of the progeny.

RESUMEN

Allogenic bone marrow transplantation was performed in a patient with chronic myelocytic leukemia (Ph+) in a stable phase. A 1,5-year recurrence-free period since the time of transplantation was observed. Transplantation features were as follows: incompatibility of the recipient and donor by ABO-antigens, the development of acute graft versus host disease and transient Ph-positivity.

RESUMEN

Acetylcholinesterase (ACE) activity was studied by the Karnovsky-Ruts method from the 5th to the 30th day in the brain of young rats born to chronically alcoholized animals receiving ethanol for 3 to 5 months prior to conception as well as during pregnancy and breast feeding. Alcohol was found to induce deviations in the formation of the enzyme in the adjacents nucleus and Broca's diagonal strip on days 5 and 20 of the postnatal development, respectively. It is assumed that the above deviations are involved in manifestations of the alcoholic syndrome of the fetus.

RESUMEN

Distribution of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) in some of the structures of the forebrain and midbrain of the Arctic long-tail ground squirrel is similar to that in other mammals. Quantitative histochemical investigation (incubation of slices at 7 and 25 degrees C) showed that onset of hibernation is accompanied by opposite changes in AChE content of different brain structures. Similar studies on the SDH activity in 9 regions of the forebrain and midbrain did not reveal any significant differences between hibernating and active animals, except the substantia nigra where the activity was higher during hibernation.

RESUMEN

Animal experiments have shown that in the presence of tumor growth immunological stimuli can produce shifts in some reactivity characteristics of the affected organism, which are the reverse of the shifts occurring in a healthy organism under similar conditions. This is attributed to the fact that the immunological stimulus used in these experiments (complete Freund adjuvant) was excessively strong for the affected organism, thus causing the suppression of certain components of reactivity instead of their stimulation. This mechanism is supposed to induce the suppression of the ptocesses lying at the basis of enhanced tumor growth; nevertheless, this suppression is not considered to have a significant positive effect.

RESUMEN

The average correlation coefficient between the EEG of different parts of the cortex gradually decreases as the rabbit is habituated to the experimental surroundings. Elaboration of an electo-defensive conditioned reflex leads to its enhancement which is replaced by a phase of temporary decrease, to be followed again by an enhancement of EEG correlation. The pronouncedness of theta-frequencies in the spectral and coherent functions behaves in a similar way. Successive changes of delta-activity level reveal no regularity.
