Evaluation of a new dengue 3 controlled human infection model for use in the evaluation of candidate dengue vaccines.

All four serotypes of dengue virus (DENV) cause the full spectrum of disease. Therefore, vaccines must protect against all serotypes. To evaluate candidate vaccines, a human challenge model of dengue serotype 3 (rDEN30Δ30) was developed. All challenge virus recipients safely met the primary endpoint of viremia and secondary endpoints of rash and seroconversion to DENV-3.

[In vitro effect of asbestos fibers on short-term cultures of human lymphocytes]. / Studio dell'effetto in vitro di fibre di asbesto su colture a breve termine di linfociti umani.

The endocellular incorporation of asbestos fibres seems to be capable to induce on Chinese hamster cell cultures numerical and structural chromosome aberrations. In the present study asbestos fibres have been added at different concentrations to human cultured lymphocytes which have been harvested at 48 and 72 h, respectively. The results do not show significant difference in the distribution of chromatid and chromosome-type aberrations between the control cultures and the cultures treated with asbestos.
