RESUMEN

A comparative analysis of clinical, instrumental and laboratory data in groups of patients with Parkinson's disease and chronic brain ischemia (stages I-II) was carried out. The information obtained in the groups showed significant differences in clinical and instrumental data that indicated the presence of chronic brain ischemia. A significant increase in molecular markers of endothelial damage comparable with the group of chronic cerebral ischemia was identified in patients with Parkinson's disease. The increase in indicators including monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, vascular endothelial growth factor and endothelin-1 is important for the verification of the disease before the appearance of symptoms of chronic cerebral ischemia in the examined groups of patients.

RESUMEN

The paper presents the results of a study of the serum levels of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in 120 patients with types 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus complicated by diabetic retinopathy. All the patients with diabetes have been ascertained to show a rise in the levels of MCP-1 and VEGF. Calculation of VEGF/MCP-1 ratio is proposed to evaluate vascular bed lesion in diabetic patients.

RESUMEN

This paper analyzes the data of examination and the results of the treatment of 25 patients aged over 80 years (mean age 68.5+/-7 years) suffering from varicosity with long nonhealing trophic ulcers of the distal limb segments (CVI CMP C6) and 20 patients of the same age groups with CVI CEAP stages 3-5. All patients with CVI underwent either full-scope phlebectomy (64.4%) or partial truncal phlebectomy (35.6%), in which the trunk of the greater saphenous vein was stripped up to the upper third of the leg. A TCM-3 outfit (RADIOmeter, Denmark) was employed to measure oxygen tension in limb tissues. Parameters of lipid peroxidation and antioxidant tissue defence were measured intraoperatively in the capillary blood of the fingers as well as in the venous blood withdrawn from the cubital vein and the greater saphenous vein in the lower third of the leg near ulcer). The data obtained evidenced that lipid peroxidation activity was most pronounced in the soft tissues of the lower third of the leg in the group of patients with remarkable chronic venous insufficiency without trophic venous ulcers (GVI CEAP C3-5) and was significantly depleted after formation of varicose ulcers (CVI CEAP C6) associated with remarkable tissue hypoxia (TepO2 1.7-7.0 mm Hg). In all patients with CVI, the syndrome of lipid peroxidation was associated with the lowering of antioxidant defence activity. Patients with trophic venous ulcers had the signs of active inflammation in the soft tissues of the leg. The data obtained in the course of the study made it possible to optimize the treatment policy for elderly patients with trophic venous ulcers. In addition to the lowering of venous hypertension, the treatment included correction of microcirculatory disorders related to local hypoxia. Of special importance was reperfusion attenuation in the postoperative period.

RESUMEN

Three series of experiments were made on mature non-inbred male and females rats with body mass 160-200 g. Chronic circulatory vertebrobasilar disorder (CCVD) in the rats was provoked by ligation of subclavian arteries. The animals showed longer latent periods of evoked total motor potentials reflecting impairment of the central motoneuron. Inhibition of impulse conduction along the peripheral nerves and decreased M-response amplitudes in the experimental animals with CCVD and myeloid ischemia in the lumbosacral area points to a significant affection of the segmental system of the spinal cord and other parts of the autonomic nervous system.

RESUMEN

The efficacy of cytoflavin in the treatment of 60 patients (39 women, 21 men, age 32-64 year) with spondylogenic cervical and lumbosacral radiculomyeloischemia due to degenerative dystrophic spinal lesions was studied in a randomized double-blind placebo controlled study according to GCP rules. During 10 days 40 patients received intravenous cytoflavin dropper injections once daily; 20 patients (control group) received 5% glucose solution as a placebo. Considerable improvement was observed in 70% patients with radiculomyeloischemia of cervical localization and in 65%--with radiculomyeloischemia of lumbosacral segments. In the control group, positive dynamics of neurologic symptoms was 25-30% lower. Cytoflavin significantly reduced cognitive disturbances, improved reparative processes both in the central and peripheral neurons, and may be recommended in ischemic neuronal spinal lesions.

RESUMEN

A comparison study of some clinical and neuropsychological indices in two demyelinating disorders--multiple sclerosis (17 patients, mean age 31.6 years) and inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (7 patients, mean age 49.5 years) was conducted, using electromyography with registration of impulse velocity conduction along the nerve and M-responses as well as of the parameters of movement units potentials. The data obtained suggest the presence of demyelinating lesions of central and peripheral nervous systems, namely, symptoms of axonal demyelinating polyneuropathy with the prevalence of demyelinating process, its dissemination and generalization, in both disorders.

RESUMEN

Electromyographic diagnostical possibilities are not limited within a sphere of beiromusclers damages. It is widely spread for estimation of neuromotoric apparatus functional conditions with segmentary and oversegnebtary damages of spinal cord. In this connection an analysis of clinical and neurophysiological parameters of patients with demyelinisational damages of the nervoys system has been carried out.

RESUMEN

Three series of experiments on mature male and female non-inbred rats weighing 160-200 g with chronic vertebrobasilar circulation disorders (CVCD) and chronic myeloischemia (CMI) of the lumbosacral segments have been performed to assess efficiency of treatment with various physical methods. It was found that measurement of ribosomal cystrone activity by bone marrow preparations staining with silver salts is a simple and fast method of estimation of cell proliferation in the cystrones in exposure to different therapeutic factors, and of prediction of the disease outcome. Combined magnetic and electric therapy is more effective than monotherapy with sinusoidal modulated currents or modulated currents. This is explained by synergism of the therapeutic factors.

RESUMEN

The value and optimal parameters of a new method of therapy, magnetic impulse stimulation, was studied in 225 patients with neurological manifestations of osteochondrosis and vertebral spondyloarthrosis. Electromyography, thermography, rheovasography, and assays of lipid peroxidation were used to assess the mechanisms of the therapeutic actions of magnetic impulse stimulation.

RESUMEN

Studies were performed on 89 patients with organic lesions of the nervous system in which the leading clinical symptoms consisted of paralysis and pareses. Patients received complex treatment, including pulsed magnetic fields and an electrical stimulation regime producing multilevel stimulation. A control group of 49 patients with similar conditions was included, and these patients received only sinusoidal currents. Combined treatment with magnetic and electrical stimulation was more effective, as indicated by radiographic and electromyographic investigations.

RESUMEN

89 patients with organic damages of nervous system with paralyses and pareses as the main symptoms in clinical pattern were treated. Their treatment was complex with application of impulse magnetic field and electrostimulation which permitted to achieve multilevel electrostimulation. The control group was formed by 49 patients with analogous diseases which were treated by sinusoidal current electrostimulation only. Combined application of magnetic stimulation and electrostimulation was more effective. That was confirmed by data of roentgenographic and electromyographic studies.

RESUMEN

A new method of impulse magnetic therapy was studied in the treatment of neurologic complications of osteochondrosis and deforming spondylarthrosis in 225 patients with neurologic manifestations of pathology in cervical or sacral parts of spinal column. To assess the results obtained, EMG, thermography and determination of the levels of blood plasma lipid peroxidation were used.
