RESUMEN

This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of ensiling sorghum silage with urea and amending the aerobic exposure nutrients intake and apparent digestibility, ingestive behaviour and blood serum metabolites of feedlot lambs. Forty uncastrated crossbred Dorper × Santa Inês lambs, aged 150 ± 15 days and with an initial body weight of 21.73 ± 2.40 kg, were used. Animals were assigned in a 2 × 3 factorial arrangement. Thus, six silage diets were produced with various urea addition levels (UA: 0 and 5 g/kg on a natural matter basis) and periods of aerobic exposure of silages (PAE: 0, 24 and 48 h). An effect was observed for nutrient intakes of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fibre corrected for ash and protein (NDFap) and total digestive nutrients TDN (g/day) and for the total apparent digestibility of DM, OM and CP. There was an interaction effect between urea levels and aerobic exposure for ether extract (EE) and NDFap intakes (g/kg) and nonfibrous carbohydrate (NFC) digestibility (g/kg) (p = 0.012). The addition of 5 g/kg of urea to sorghum ensilage improved the digestibility parameters without changing dry matter intake and ingestive behaviour. The addition or not of urea does not change the blood parameters of the animals.

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of cottonseed hull (CH) in the diets of rams on intake, digestibility, nitrogen balance, ingestive behaviour, and blood metabolites. Twenty males, uncastrated with an average body weight of 29.08 ± 4.18 kg, were distributed in a completely randomized design with four treatment diets and five replicates. The diet contained a forage to concentrate ratio of 50 : 50 (ground corn, soybean meal, corn silage, and CH), and the experimental treatments were inclusion of 0, 10, 20, and 30% CH (dry matter basis). Inclusion of CH linearly increased water intake, effective intake of ethereal extract and non-fibrous carbohydrates, and crude protein digestibility. Dry matter (DM) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) digestibility, nitrogen faecal losses, and nitrogen balance reduced linearly with CH inclusion in the diet. Inclusion of CH in rams' diet reduces intake, nutrient digestibility, and intake and rumination efficiencies. Thus, it is not recommended to add this by-product to the diet of high-performance rams, but for nurture that does not aim at high performance, inclusion of up to 5% of this by-product is recommended.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the addition of increasing cottonseed cake contents in the diet. The diets were composed of corn silage (500 g kg-1) and concentrate feed (500 g kg-1) on a dry matter (DM) basis. The treatments consisted of the substitution of 0, 140, 280, and 420 g kg-1 soybean meal to cottonseed cake in the DM of concentrate feed. Four rams of the Santa Inês breed, average age of 12 months and average weight of 27.77 ± 3.87 kg, were distributed in a Latin square design (4 × 4) in a split-split-plot design, with diets in the plots and as subplots were 5 days of collection and the collection times. The results were subjected to analysis of variance and regression at 5% probability. The soybean meal substitution contents by cottonseed cake in the concentrate increased linearly the pH (P = 0.019). Ruminal ammonia-nitrogen concentration decreased linearly by 0.0137 mg dL-1 at each 10 g/kg of substitution and the time after feeding promoted the same effect (P < 0.001) decreased linearly by 0.6204 mg dL-1 at each hour after feeding. There was an increased linearly of 0.0116 mmol mL-1 at the concentration of propionic (P = 0.008) and a reduction of 0.0062 mmol mL-1 at the concentration of butyric (P = 0.009) with cottonseed cake content; however, the substitution did not influence the others short-chain fatty acids. Replacement of soybean meal with cottonseed cake in the sheep feed did not significantly alter the blood parameters, promoting minor changes in the ruminal parameters mainly in the ruminal ammonia-nitrogen without affecting the animal's health.

This study aimed to determine the protein and carbohydrate fractions as well as the in situ rumen degradability of Brachiaria decumbens silage (BDS) supplemented with soybean hulls. Five soybean hull inclusion levels were used: 0, 10, 20, 30, and 40% of the fresh matter of B. decumbens grass, distributed into a completely randomized design with five replications. The inclusion of soybean hulls caused a linear decrease (p < 0.001) in carbohydrate fractions A + B1 and a linear increase (p < 0.001) in carbohydrate fraction C. The percentage of non-protein nitrogen fraction increased linearly (p < 0.001), but the nitrogen fractions B1 + B2 and B3 presented a negative quadratic effect (p < 0.01) with soybean hull level and fraction C presented a linear decrease (p < 0.001). The dry matter (DM) degradability of soluble fraction (A) and the undigestible DM decreased linearly (p < 0.01) with the soybean hull level. The potentially degradable water-insoluble portion (DM fraction B) and degradability rate (c) of the DM fraction B increased linearly (p < 0.001) with soybean hull level. The crude protein (CP) fraction A presented a linear increase (p < 0.001) with soybean hull inclusion; however, soybean hull levels caused a linear decrease (p < 0.001) in the CP level of fraction B. The degradable insoluble fraction of NDF (D) of the silage increased linearly (p < 0.001) and the indigestible NDF fraction of the silage was linearly decreased with the soybean hull level (p < 0.001). The inclusion of intermediate levels (20-30%) of soybean hulls provided better protein and carbohydrate fractions and better quality of BDS.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the supplementation of dairy cows with different protein sources in relation to intake, digestibility, production and chemical composition of milk. For this, eight crossbred cows (Hostein x Gir) were used, distributed in two simultaneous latin squares (4x4). The treatments used were: bean coproduct, soybean meal, sunflower meal and cottonseed meal. Four variance-covariance structures were tested by means of the Akaike criterion corrected to determine the best fit to the data, and afterwards they were submitted to analysis of variance, and the means of the treatments were compared by the Tukey's test, at 5% probability. Only intakes of crude protein and crude fat were influenced by the treatments, for the digestibility, regardless of the evaluated nutrient, the soybean meal was the best treatment or was among the best, a behavior also observed for milk production. Thus, it was concluded that soybean meal is the best source of protein among the supplements used, and the bean coproduct stands out as a low-cost protein source but should not fully replace soybean meal, especially in animal categories of higher nutritional requirement.


Objetivou-se com este estudo avaliar a suplementação de vacas leiteiras com diferentes fontes proteicas em relação ao consumo, digestibilidade, produção e composição química do leite. Para tanto, utilizou-se oito vacas mestiças (Holandês x Gir), distribuídas em dois quadrados latinos (4x4) simultâneos. Os tratamentos utilizados foram: coproduto do feijão, farelo de soja, farelo de girassol e farelo de algodão. Foram testadas quatro estruturas de variância-covariância por meio do critério de Akaike corrigido para determinar o melhor ajuste aos dados, e posteriormente foram submetidas à análise de variância, sendo as médias dos tratamentos comparadas pelo teste de Tukey, a 5% de probabilidade. Apenas os consumos de proteína bruta e gordura bruta foram influenciados pelos tratamentos, já em relação a digestibilidade, independente do nutriente avaliado o farelo de soja foi o melhor tratamento ou esteve entre os melhores, comportamento este observado também para a produção de leite. Com isso, concluiu-se que dentre os suplementos utilizados o farelo de soja é a melhor fonte proteica, e o coproduto de feijão se destaca como uma fonte proteica de baixo custo, mas que deve substituir integralmente o farelo de soja, principalmente em categorias animais com alta exigência nutricional.

The objective was to evaluate the intake and the apparent digestibility in sheep fed on marandu grass silages added with dehydrated barley. Twenty crossbred Santa Inês lambs were used, with a mean initial weight of 30±4.5 kg and mean age of 14±2 months. The experimental sheep were distributed into a completely randomized design and lining, with five treatments and four repetitions, with treatments levels of inclusion of 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40% natural matter of naturally dehydrated brewery residue for 36 hours to the marandu grass silage to feed the sheep. The evaluation period lasted 21 days, 15 for adaptation to the diets and 7 days for data collection. The data was submitted to analysis of variance, and when significant (P<0.05) the treatment means were analysed by regression. The inclusion of dehydrated barley to silage showed a linear increase in water intake (P<0.05), increased by 0.02% per unit of dehydrated barley. A quadratic effect was observed for the levels of dehydrated barley on the dry matter intake (DM), estimating a maximum consumption of 2.86% DM for silages containing 17.8% dehydrated barley. The crude protein intake (CP) behaved quadratically, with the maximum value estimated of 0.29% CP at a level of 22.5% dehydrated barley. Ether extract (EE) intake also exhibited quadratic behaviour (P<0.05), with the maximum value estimated of 0.2% EE at a level of 28.25% dehydrated barley. The regression study showed quadratic behaviour; with the maximum estimated value of neutral detergent fibre was 2.33% at a level of 34.58% dehydrated barley. No statistical significance was found for the intake of acid detergent fibre or organic matter (P>0.05). It was concluded that the addition of levels of 20 to 30% of dehydrated barley to silage resulted in a positive response for the dry matter intake, crude protein, Ether extract and neutral detergent fibre.(AU)


Objetivou-se avaliar o consumo e a digestibilidade aparente de ovinos alimentados com silagens de capim marandu aditivadas com resíduo de cervejaria desidratado. Foram utilizados 20 ovinos mestiços de Santa Inês machos inteiros, com peso médio inicial de 30±4.5 kg e média de 14±2meses de idade. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado, com cinco tratamentos e quatro repetições, sendo os tratamentos níveis de inclusão de 0, 10, 20, 30 e 40% da matéria natural de resíduo de cervejaria desidratado naturalmente por 36 horas à silagem de capim-marandu. O período de avaliação teve duração de 21 dias, sendo 15 para adaptação às dietas e seis para as coletas. Os dados foram submetidas à análise de variância, e quando significativo, as médias dos tratamentos à análise de regressão. A inclusão do resíduo de cervejaria desidratado promoveu aumento linear (P<0,05) no consumo de água, que aumentou em 0,02 ponto percentual a cada unidade de resíduo adicionada. Observou-se efeito quadrático (P<0,05) nos níveis de resíduo de cervejaria desidratado sobre o consumo de matéria seca, estimando-se consumo máximo de 2,86% peso vivo (PV) para silagens contendo 17,8% de resíduo de cervejaria. O consumo de proteína bruta apresentou comportamento quadrático, de modo que o valor máximo foi estimado em 0,29%PV de proteína bruta para o nível de 22,5% de resíduo de cervejaria desidratado. The objective was to evaluate the ingestive behavior of ovine fed Marandu grass silage with dehydrated brewery residue added. The experiment had a completely randomized design with five treatments and four repetitions, with the treatments levels of inclusion being of 0, 10, 20, 30, and 40% natural matter of naturally dehydrated brewery residue for 36 hours to the marandu grass silage. 20 ovines were used and the experimental period was 21 days, 15 being for adaptation to diets. The use of brewery byproduct promoted quadratic effect (P < 0.05) for the consumption of dry matter with maximum point value estimated at adding 23.25% additive. Ingestion efficiency and rumination efficiency of dry matter (g DM/hour) were significant (P < 0.05), by quadratic behavior, and NDF ingestion and rumination efficiency showed crescent linear behavior. The DM and NDF consumption expressed in kg/meal and in minutes/kg were also significant (P < 0.05), showing quadratic behavior. Rumination activity expressed in g DM and NDF/piece was influenced (P < 0.05) by the adding of brewery residue in marandu grass silage in quadratic way, with maximum value estimated of 1.57 g DM/bolus chewed in inclusion of 24.72% additive in grass silage. The conclusion is that intermediary levels adding of 20 to 25% dehydrated brewery residue affects certain parameters of ingestive behavior.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Streptococcus bovis on the fermentation characteristics and nutritive value of Tanzania grass silage. Tanzania grass was chopped and left untreated (U) or treated with Streptococcus bovis JB1 at 1 × 10(6) colony-forming units per gram (cfu/g) of fresh forage or Streptococcus bovis HC5 at 1 × 10(6) cfu/g of fresh forage and packed into sixtuplicate laboratory silos. The largest number of enterobacteria, molds and yeast (M&Y) occurred in untreated silages and the smallest populations of enterobacteria and M&Y and the largest numbers of lactic acid bacteria (LAB), at 9.81 and 9.87 log cfu/g, were observed in Streptococcus bovis JB1 and HC5, respectively (P < 0.05). Silages treated with JB1 and HC5 had lower (P < 0.05) silage pHs and concentrations of ammoniacal nitrogen (NH3-N) than untreated silages. The application of Streptococcus bovis JB1 and HC5 resulted in fewer losses through gases and effluents (P < 0.05), which resulted in greater dry matter recovery (DMR) and crude protein recovery (CPR) (P < 0.05). Streptococcus bovis JB1 and HC5 improved the fermentative profile and increased the concentration of crude protein and DMR and CPR in Tanzania grass silage.

Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar o efeito da suplementação com diferentes fontes proteicas na dieta de vacas leiteiras mantidas em pastagem de Brachiaria brizantha MG5 sobre os níveis séricos de glicose, triglicerídeos, colesterol e ureia e das enzimas gama glutamina transferase, creatina quinase e aminotransferase. Avaliaram-se diferentes fontes proteicas: coproduto de feijão, farelo de soja, farelo de girassol e farelo de algodão. Foram utilizadas 8 vacas cruzadas 5/8 (Holandês x Gir), peso médio 500±60,33kg, produção média de leite de 14,85±3,28kg/dia, entre 60 e 90 dias de lactação, em delineamento quadrado latino 4 x 4 duplo e simultâneo. Cada período experimental teve duração de 15 dias, sendo 10 dias iniciais para adaptação dos animais e os demais para avaliação e coleta de dados. Houve efeito de interação (P0,05) das fontes proteicas para os valores de triglicerídeos, colesterol e ureia dos animais, com média de 6,46±2,05; 182,43±37,52 e 38,20±12,29mg/dL, respectivamente. Houve efeito (P0,05) os níveis séricos das enzimas gama glutamina transferase, creatina quinase e aminotransferase, com médias de 26,76±8,02; 112,13±31,72 e 58,79±20,13 UI/L, respectivamente. As fontes proteicas promoveram alterações na glicemia com os tempos de coletas, sendo que estes alteraram os valores de triglicerídeos e ureia. Objetivou-se avaliar o desempenho, consumo, comportamento ingestivo, os custos de produção e os parâmetros nutricionais de ovinos alimentados com dietas contendo diferentes teores de caroço de algodão - zero, 10, 20, 30 e 40%. Foram realizados dois experimentos, em que no primeiro foi usado um Delineamento Inteiramente Casualisado, com cinco tratamentos e seis repetições. Os animais foram mantidos em baias coletivas. O experimento teve duração de 70 dias, sendo os animais pesados no início e final do experimento. No segundo experimento, foram usados cinco animais por meio de quadrado latino 5x5, divididos em cinco períodos de 14 dias, totalizando 70 dias experimentais. Os consumos MS, MO, PB, EE, FDN e CNF foram influenciados de forma quadrática (P 0,01) pelos níveis de caroço de algodão na dieta. Os níveis de caroço de algodão tiveram efeito quadrático ( 0,01) apenas sobre a digestibilidade do EE, não sendo observado efeito sobre os demais nutrientes (P>0,05). Não foram observados efeitos (P>0,05) dos níveis de caroço de algodão nas dietas sobre o ganho médio diário, sendo obtido valor médio de 200,8 g/animal/dia, bem como sobre o comportamento ingestivo dos animais (P>0,05). Foram encontradas margens brutas de R$ 0,18 e 0,19 por animal/dia, respectivamente para os níveis 10 e 20% de caroço de algodão. Recomenda-se a inclusão de até 20% de caroço de algodão...(AU)

The second experiment was a 5x5 Latin square design with five treatments and five animals divided in five periods of 14 days, totaling 70 days of experimentation. The intakes of the DM, OM, EE, NDF and NFC ave been not affected by WC levels (P>0.01). The WC levels had quadratic affect only on EE digestibility (P 0.01) and there were no observed effects on digestibility for other nutrients (P>0.05). There were no effects (P>0.05) of whole cottonseed on average daily gain with average of 200.8g/animal/day, as well as there was no effect of the WC levels on intake behavior. A gross margins of R$ 0.18 to 0.19 per animal / day was observed for WC levels of 10 to 20%.Thus, it was concluded that whole cottonseed can be included in lambs diets up 20% of dry matter basis in which roughage has been not used.(AU)

The objective of the present study was to assess the chemical and bromatological composition and in situ degradability of elephant grass silages inoculated with Streptococcus bovis isolated from cattle rumen. A complete randomized design was used with four treatments and six replications: elephant grass silage, elephant grass silage inoculated with 10(6) CFU/g Streptococcus bovis JB1 strains; elephant grass silage inoculated with 106 CFU/g Streptococcus bovis HC5 strains; elephant grass silage inoculated with 106 CFU/g Enterococcus faecium with six replications each. The pH and ammoniacal nitrogen values were lower (P<0.05) for the silages inoculated with Streptococcus bovis JB1 and HC5, respectively. The silage inoculated with Streptococcus bovis had a higher crude protein content (P<0.05) and there were no differences for the fiber contents in the silage. The (a)soluble fraction degradability, especially in the silages inoculated with Streptococcus bovis JB1 and HC5, had higher values, 30.77 and 29.97%, for dry matter and 31.01 and 36.66% for crude protein, respectively. Inoculation with Streptococcus bovis improved the fermentation profile, protein value and rumen degradability of the nutrients.

The present study was conducted to determine the best level of substitution of soybean meal by sunflower cake in diets for kids through the evaluation of quantitative carcass traits. Thirty-two Boer kids X 1/2 NDB (no defined breed), males, non-castrated, with 4 months of age and initial body weight of 15±3.2 kg, were randomly assigned to individual pens. The treatments contained four substitution levels of soybean meal by sunflower cake (0, 33, 66 and 100% DM). At the end of the experimental period, the animals were slaughtered. There was no influence of the treatments on any of the mean values of the evaluated measures (p>0.05): 21.78 kg (body weight at slaughter), 8.65 kg (hot carcass weight), 8.59 kg (cold carcass weight), 40.27% (hot carcass yield), 39.20% (cold carcass yield), 7.73 cm(2)(rib eye area), 46.74 cm (carcass outer length), 45.68 cm (carcass internal length), 36.92 cm (leg length), 26.04 cm (leg perimeter), 48.66 cm (hind perimeter), 58.62 cm (thoracic perimeter), 0.20 (carcass compactness index), 68.48% (total muscle of the leg), 2.79% (total leg fat), 55.19% (subcutaneous leg fat), 28.82% (total bone), 81.66 g (femur weight), 14.88 cm (femur length), 0.38 (leg muscularity index), 2.53 (muscle:bone ratio) and 33.42 (muscle:fat ratio). The substitution of soybean meal by sunflower cake may be recommended up to a level of 100% without alterations to quantitative carcass traits.

RESUMEN

The objective was to evaluate the fermentation pattern and chemical composition of elephant grass silage using different additives. The experimental design was completely randomized with six treatments (elephant grass no additive; with 100 kg of rice bran ton-1 of green mass (GM); with 100 kg of soybean hulls ton-1 GM; with 100 kg of corn meal ton-1 GM; with 200 kg of sugar cane ton-1 GM; with inoculants) and four replications. PVC silos were used, adopting a density of 600 kg of green mass m-3. With the exception of inoculant, all additives used resulted in increased dry matter content (27.95 to 31.65%) and soluble carbohydrate contents (15.20 to 17.14%) in the forage being ensiled. The additives promoted an adequate fermentation pattern for pH values (3.70 to 3.96) and ammonia nitrogen (3.67 to 4.44% of total N) observed in the silage. The rice bran additive yielded silage with higher contents of crude protein (6.41%) and total digestible nutrients (61.91%) compared to the treatment without any additive.


Objetivou-se avaliar o padrão de fermentação e a composição bromatológica da silagem de capim-elefante utilizando diferentes aditivos. Utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado com seis tratamentos (capim-elefante sem aditivo; com 100 kg de farelo de arroz t-1 de massa verde (MV); com 100 kg de casca de soja t-1 MV; com 100 kg de fubá de milho t-1 MV; com 200 kg de cana-de-açúcar picada t-1 MV; com inoculante bacteriano) e quatro repetições. Utilizaram-se silos de PVC, adotando densidade de 600 kg de massa verde m-3. Com a exceção do inoculante bacteriano, todos os aditivos proporcionaram aumento nos teores de matéria seca (27,95 a 31,65%) e carboidratos solúveis (15,20 a 17,14%) na forragem a ser ensilada. Os aditivos promoveram adequado padrão de fermentação face aos valores de pH (3,70 a 3,96) e de nitrogênio amoniacal (3,67 a 4,44% do N-total) verificados na silagem. O aditivo farelo de arroz proporcionou a obtenção de silagens com teores mais elevados de proteína bruta (6,41%) e nutrientes digestíveis totais (61,91%) em relação ao tratamento sem aditivo.

The additives promoted an adequate fermentation pattern for pH values (3.70 to 3.96) and ammonia nitrogen (3.67 to 4.44% of total N) observed in the silage. The rice bran additive yielded silage with higher contents of crude protein (6.41%) and total digestible nutrients (61.91%) compared to the treatment without any additive.


Objetivou-se avaliar o padrão de fermentação e a composição bromatológica da silagem de capim-elefante utilizando diferentes aditivos. Utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado com seis tratamentos (capim-elefante sem aditivo; com 100 kg de farelo de arroz t-1 de massa verde (MV); com 100 kg de casca de soja t-1 MV; com 100 kg de fubá de milho t-1 MV; com 200 kg de cana-de-açúcar picada t-1 MV; com inoculante bacteriano) e quatro repetições. Utilizaram-se silos de PVC, adotando densidade de 600 kg de massa verde m-3. Com a exceção do inoculante bacteriano, todos os aditivos proporcionaram aumento nos teores de matéria seca (27,95 a 31,65%) e carboidratos solúveis (15,20 a 17,14%) na forragem a ser ensilada. Os aditivos promoveram adequado padrão de fermentação face aos valores de pH (3,70 a 3,96) e de nitrogênio amoniacal (3,67 a 4,44% do N-total) verificados na silagem. O aditivo farelo de arroz proporcionou a obtenção de silagens com teores mais elevados de proteína bruta (6,41%) e nutrientes digestíveis totais (61,91%) em relação ao tratamento sem aditivo.
