RESUMEN

With continued technologic advances, it is not surprising that gaming techniques are increasingly being used in radiology residency programs. This comprehensive review on gaming in radiology education offers insight into the importance of gaming, types of games and principles utilized in gaming, as well as applications that are inherent in artificial intelligence and continued medical education. The advantages and disadvantages of gaming will be considered, as well as barriers to successful adoption of gaming.

RESUMEN

Parkinsonian Syndromes are difficult to accurately diagnose and distinguish from other neurological processes such as essential tremor. Until now, physical exam and clinical presentation have been the gold standard for diagnosis (bradykinesia, tremor, rigidity, and postural instability).1 However, this leads to over- or under diagnosis and improper treatment due to variability in presentation and symptoms.1 A nuclear medicine study using I-123 Ioflupane (DaTSCAN) has been developed, which allows accurate differentiation of Parkinsonian Syndromes from other etiologies.1 This study is now widely performed on the mainland, but has never been done in Hawai'i due to its East Coast sourcing and relatively short physical half-life. Through a highly coordinated logistical effort, Tripler Army Medical Center's Nuclear Medicine Department conducted the first DaTSCAN in Hawai'i in April 2016.

RESUMEN

We describe a case of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) in a 21-year-old male U.S. Army Private. Pre-operative radiographs demonstrated a dysplastic bump at the right head-neck junction. The patient underwent arthroscopy and resection of the bump, resulting in a improved contour of the femoral head-neck junction. After standard recovery, he is now able to ambulate and flex his right hip without pain and has returned to full duty.

RESUMEN

Herein is a case of a 23-year-old man with recurrence of a seminal vesicle cyst after percutaneous drainage and laparoscopic excision complicated by hemorrhage requiring embolization. He presented to the emergency department for pain after ejaculation. Computed tomographic scan of his pelvis revealed extravasation of contrast near his cyst and pelvic fluid collection suspicious for a hematoma. The patient had steadily decreasing hemoglobin and hematocrit levels. An interventional radiologist performed an embolization of the left seminal vesicle cystic arteries. Hemoglobin and hematocrit values improved and he was discharged. Hemorrhage resolved with embolization procedure and pain dissipated over the course of follow up care.

RESUMEN

Meniscal tears and meniscal instability are rare complications of a discoid lateral meniscus in a very young child. We report a case of a 32-month-old male who presented with a limp and limited extension of his right knee. Magnetic resonance and sonographic images demonstrated a discoid meniscus with a posterior horn tear and unstable anterior horn, confirmed by arthroscopy. The patient was treated with saucerization of the lateral discoid meniscus, debridement of the posterior horn tear, and repair of the unstable anterior horn. This case shows a rare complication of variant anatomy that is not well documented in the pediatric radiologic literature, but nonetheless should be considered in the pediatric population.

RESUMEN

A 42-year-old male presented to the emergency department with difficulty breathing and body pain particularly in his bilateral lower extremities. A workup was done and he was diagnosed with sarcomatoid carcinoma of the lung. Bone scintigraphy was performed and hypertrophic pulmonary osteoarthropathy was diagnosed to be the source of the pain.
