RESUMEN

Canopy interception significantly affects hydrological processes such as infiltration, runoff and evapotranspiration. Research on grass canopy interception remains limited, and the experimental methods employed differ substantially. To thoroughly investigate the canopy interception characteristics of grass and clarify the methodological differences, five commonly utilized slope protection grass species in temperate regions were cultivated in a laboratory setting, and their canopy interception characteristics were experimentally investigated using the water-balance method (WBM), the water-wiping method (WWM) and the water-immersion method (WIM), respectively. The results showed that the WBM is more accurate for measuring canopy interception in grass, whereas both the WWM and the WIM underestimate grass canopy interception capacity. The canopy interception capacity measured by the WBM was 1.61-2.09 times higher than that of the WWM and 1.93-3.47 times higher than that of the WIM. Grey correlation analysis of the eight evaluated factors indicated that leaf area is the most influential factor affecting canopy interception in grass, followed by rainfall amount, dry mass, rainfall intensity, canopy projection area, leaf contact angle, fresh weight, and average height. There is a negative power function relationship between the interception ratio and the rainfall amount. With increasing rainfall intensity, the canopy interception capacity initially increases and then decreases, peaking at rainfall intensities of 15 to 20 mm/h. Leaf contact angle is a key quantifiable parameter that explains the differences in canopy interception among different grass species, and the canopy interception per unit leaf area decreases as the leaf contact angle increases. This study demonstrates that the WBM provides the most accurate measurements of grass canopy interception compared to the WWM and WIM, and highlights the leaf contact angle as a key factor in explaining interspecies differences. These findings could enhance the understanding of grass canopy interception and guide the selection of experimental methods.

RESUMEN

To investigate the relationship between several factors and urinary stone as well as different stone compositions. To guide the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of urinary stone recurrence. We used bidirectional Mendelian randomization to analyze the causal relationship between hypertension and urinary stones, diabetes and urinary stones, and body mass index (BMI) and urinary stones. We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of patients with urinary stones admitted to a tertiary care hospital in Chongqing, China, from July 2015 to October 2022. Patients were included when they were first diagnosed with urinary stones. The odds ratio of calculi on hypertension estimated by inverse variance weighted was 8.46 (95%CI: 4.00-17.90, P = 2.25 × 10-8). The stone composition analysis showed that there were 3101 (67.02%) mixed, 1322 (28.57%) calcium oxalate monohydrate, 148 (3.20%) anhydrous uric acid, 16 (0.35%) magnesium ammonium phosphate hexahydrate, 11 (0.24%) dicalcium phosphate dihydrate, 10 (0.22%) carbonate apatite, 8 (0.17%) L-cystine, 4 ammonium uric acid (0.09%), and 7 other stone types (0.15%). Mendelian randomization studies have proven that urinary stones may be a potential risk factor for hypertension, while there is no causal relationship between diabetes and stones, BMI, and stones. Our retrospective study has shown that urinary stone components are closely associated with sex, age, hypertension, diabetes, and BMI. It is reasonable to suspect that treating a single stone component is ineffective in preventing recurrence. We also found that the peak incidence of urinary stones was at the most active stage of most people's working lives.

RESUMEN

A transition metal coordination polymer (CP), [Cd(Hdpcp)]n (Cd-CP) was prepared based on 3-(2,4-dicarboxyphenyl)-6-carboxypyridine ligand (H3dpcp), and then its composite Eu@Cd-CP was synthesized by the post-modification through loading Eu3+ ions on Cd-CP. Eu@Cd-CP has outstanding fluorescence stability in aqueous solution with a wide range of pH. Furthermore, Eu@Cd-CP can distinguish sodium salicylate (SS) and sodium dehydroacetate (SA) in some food additives by quenching the characteristic fluorescence of Eu3+ ion. Eu@Cd-CP is the first known CP-based fluorescent probe for selective detection of SS and SA. In addition, the fluorescence mechanisms of discerning above analytes by Eu@Cd-CP have been thoroughly evaluated. It has found that synergistic effect of the dynamic process, photoinduced electron transfer (PET) process, energy absorption competition, and formation of Eu-O bonding interactions in sensing SA lead to the fluorescence quenching of Eu@Cd-CP. The fluorescence response mechanism of Eu@Cd-CP with SA is ascribed to the combination of the dynamic process, PET process, and energy absorption competition. A series of portable devices based on Eu@Cd-CP including fluorescence test strips, lamp beads, and composite films were developed to discern SS and SA via visual changes in luminescence color. This composite material can be potentially used as a multifunctional fluorescent probe for practical applications.

RESUMEN

The rapid detection of internal rail defects is critical to maintaining railway safety, but this task faces a significant challenge due to the limited computational resources of onboard detection systems. This paper presents YOLOv8n-LiteCBAM, an advanced network designed to enhance the efficiency of rail defect detection. The network designs a lightweight DepthStackNet backbone to replace the existing CSPDarkNet backbone. Further optimization is achieved through model pruning techniques and the incorporation of a novel Bidirectional Convolutional Block Attention Module (BiCBAM). Additionally, inference acceleration is realized via ONNX Runtime. Experimental results on the rail defect dataset demonstrate that our model achieves 92.9% mAP with inference speeds of 136.79 FPS on the GPU and 38.36 FPS on the CPU. The model's inference speed outperforms that of other lightweight models and ensures that it meets the real-time detection requirements of Rail Flaw Detection (RFD) vehicles traveling at 80 km/h. Consequently, the YOLOv8n-LiteCBAM network is with some potential for industrial application in the expedited detection of internal rail defects.

RESUMEN

Avian leukosis virus subgroup K (ALV-K) is composed of newly emerging isolates, which cluster separately from the well-characterized subgroups A, B, C, D, E, and J in sequence analysis, and exhibits a specific host range and a unique pattern of superinfection interference. Avian leukosis virus subgroup K replicate more slowly in avian cells than other ALV strains, leading to escaped detection during ALV eradication, but the underlying mechanism are largely unknown. In our previous study, we have reported that JS11C1 and most of other suspected ALV-K strains possessed unique mutations in the U3 region. Here, we selected 5 mutations in some important transcriptional regulation elements to explore the possible factor contributing for the lower activity of LTR, including CA-TG mutation in the CAAT box, 21 nt deletion in the CAAT box, A-G and A-T mutations in the CArG boxes, 11 nt insertion in the PRE boxes, and C-T mutation in the TATA box. On the basis of infectious clone of JS11C1, we demonstrated that the 11 nt fragment in the PRE boxes was associated with the transcription activity of LTR, the enhancer ability of U3, and the replication capacity of the virus. Notably, we determined the differential U3-protein interaction profile of ALVs and found that the 11 nt fragment specifically binds to cellular SERPINE1 mRNA binding protein 1 (SERBP1) to increase the LTR activity and enhance virus replication. Collectively, these findings reveal that a 11 nt fragment in the U3 gene contributed to its binding ability to the cellular SERBP1 to enhance its transcription and the infectious virus productions in avian cells. This study highlighted the vital role of host factor in retrovirus replication and thus provides a new perspective to elucidate the interaction between retrovirus and its host and a molecular basis to develop efficient strategies against retroviruses.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The red-crowned crane is one of the vulnerable bird species. Although the captive population has markedly increased over the last decade, infectious diseases can lead to the death of young red-crowned cranes while few virological studies have been conducted. METHODS: Using a viral metagenomics approach, we analyzed the virome of tissues of the dead captive red-crowned crane with diarrhea symptoms in Dongying Biosphere Reserve, Shandong Province, China and feces of individual birds breeding at the corresponding captive breeding center, which were pooled separately. RESULTS: There is much more DNA and RNA viruses in the feces than that of the tissues. RNA virus belonging to the families Picornaviridae, and DNA viruses belonging to the families Parvoviridae, associated with enteric diseases were detected in the tissues and feces. Genomes of the picornavirus, genomovirus, and parvovirus identified in the study were fully characterized, which further suggested that infectious viruses of these families were possibly presented in the diseased red-crowned crane. CONCLUSION: RNA virus belonging to the families Picornaviridae, and DNA viruses belonging to the families Genomoviridae and Parvoviridae were possibly the causative agent for diarrhea of red-crowned crane. This study has expanded our understanding of the virome of red-crowned crane and provides a baseline for elucidating the etiology for diarrhea of the birds.

RESUMEN

We provide a remote sensing derived dataset for large-scale ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) power stations in China of 2020, which has high spatial resolution of 10 meters. The dataset is based on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform via random forest classifier and active learning strategy. Specifically, ground samples are carefully collected across China via both field survey and visual interpretation. Afterwards, spectral and texture features are calculated from publicly available Sentinel-2 imagery. Meanwhile, topographic features consisting of slope and aspect that are sensitive to PV locations are also included, aiming to construct a multi-dimensional and discriminative feature space. Finally, the trained random forest model is adopted to predict PV power stations of China parallelly on GEE. Technical validation has been carefully performed across China which achieved a satisfactory accuracy over 89%. Above all, as the first publicly released 10-m national-scale distribution dataset of China's ground-mounted PV power stations, it can provide data references for relevant researchers in fields such as energy, land, remote sensing and environmental sciences.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Pelvic lymphocele is the most common complication after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) with pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND), of which symptomatic lymphocele (sLC) ranges up to 10% and is associated with poorer perioperative outcomes. Peritoneal flap fixation (PFF) is a promising intraoperative modification to reduce sLC formation but the clinical evidence failed to reach consistency. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Randomized and nonrandomized comparative studies comparing postoperative sLC occurrence with or without PFF after RARP with PLND were identified through a systematic literature search via MEDLINE/PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and CENTRAL up to July 2023. Outcome data of sLC occurrence (primary) and major perioperative events (secondary) were extracted. Mean difference and risk ratio with 95% CI were synthesized as appropriate for each outcome to determine the cumulative effect size. RESULTS: Five RCTs and five observatory studies involving 3177 patients were finally included in the qualitative and quantitative analysis. PFF implementation significantly reduced the occurrence of sLC (RR 0.35, 95% CI: 0.24-0.50), and the specific lymphocele-related symptoms, without compromised perioperative outcomes including blood loss, operative time, and major nonlymphocele complications. The strength of the evidence was enhanced by the low risk of bias and low inter-study heterogeneity of the eligible RCTs. CONCLUSION: PFF warrants routine implementation after RARP with PLND to prevent or reduce postoperative sLC formation.

RESUMEN

The effective discrimination and determination of the chiral antimalarial drugs quinine (QN) and quinidine (QD) are extremely important for human health. Herein, a 2D achiral Sm-based metal-organic framework (IMU-MOF1 = [Sm(tpba)(L)]n, where Htpba = 4-(2,2':6″,2'-terpyridin)-4'-ylbenzioc acid and H2L = 2,2'-biquinoline-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid) was successfully prepared by the solvothermal method. More importantly, IMU-MOF1 was designed as an ultrasensitive fluorescent probe for the identification of chiral enantiomer drugs. The limits of detection for QN and QD are 4.24 × 10-11 and 7.54 × 10-12 M, respectively. Furthermore, it was demonstrated that the stronger hydrogen-bonding interactions between IMU-MOF1 and quinine furnish a more efficient energy transfer to the ligands in the sensing process, resulting in a significant fluorescence enhancement of IMU-MOF1.

RESUMEN

Safety is paramount in rail transportation. The International Safety Standard IEC 61508, issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in 2000, describes the modern concept of safety and the specifications for safety evaluation in a systematic manner. On this basis, the EN 50129 railway transportation safety standard and safety integrity level(SIL) are established. Through the above analysis, the relationship between safety-related system reliability, acceptable risk, and safety index is summarized. It is clear that the safety index is based on acceptable risks. Nonetheless, as the economy and society advance, the safety index mandated by the SIL falls behind. Consequently, the principles and methodologies for calculating the safety index are presented. The paper proposes a reference for the Chinese railway safety index based on actual data from the Chinese railways over the past few years.

RESUMEN

Introduction: Treatment of relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (R/R AML) and myeloid sarcoma (MS) has presented challenges for decades. Studies on selinexor in combination with various standard or intensive chemotherapy regimens for the treatment of R/R AML have demonstrated promising results. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of chemotherapy-free or low-dose chemotherapy regimens with selinexor for R/R AML and MS patients. Methods: Ten patients with R/R AML or MS who received chemotherapy-free or low-dose chemotherapy regimens in combination with selinexor at Tongji Hospital from October 2021 to August 2022 were included in this study. The primary endpoint was overall response rate (ORR) and secondary endpoints included complete remission (CR), CR with incomplete hematological recovery (CRi), partial remission (PR), transplantation rate, and safety. Results: All patients were evaluable for response, achieving CR in four (40.0%) patients and CRi in two (20.0%) patients for a total CR/CRi of 60.0%. The ORR was 80.0% when patients with PR were included. Five (50.0%) patients underwent allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) after treatment with selinexor-containing regimens. At the end of the follow-up, seven (70.0%) patients were alive, and three patients died of transplant-related complications or disease progression. The most frequently reported nonhematologic adverse events (AEs) in patients were grade 1 or 2 asymptomatic hyponatremia. Conclusion: The chemotherapy-free or low-dose chemotherapy regimens in combination with selinexor for R/R AML are feasible and tolerable and provide an opportunity for patients to receive transplantation.

RESUMEN

At present, most studies have shown that probiotics have a positive regulatory effect on the nutritional metabolism of the body, but the mechanism is still unclear. Here, 48 piglets were divided into four groups. The control group was not fed probiotics, the Lac group was fed L. Rhamnosus GG ATCC53103, the Rha group was fed L. Plantarum JL01, and the mix group was fed two types of probiotics. Nitrogen metabolism and mRNA levels of mTOR and S6K in skeletal muscle were observed in each group. Then, metagenome and non-targeted metabonomics were used to observe the changes of intestinal microorganisms and plasma metabolites in portal channels after probiotics feeding. Finally, we combined the results of omics analysis to reveal the mechanism of probiotics on nitrogen metabolism in weaned piglets. The results showed that L. Rhmnosus GG ATCC53103 and L. Plantarum JL01 increased nitrogen apparent digestibility, nitrogen deposition rate, and nitrogen utilization rate of weaned piglets (P < 0.05); the relative expression of mTOR and SK6 mRNA in skeletal muscle increased significantly (P < 0.05). When L. rhamnosus GG ATCC53103 and L. plantarum JL01 were combined, we found that Clostridium and Prevotella significantly increased in the jejunum (P < 0.05). The relative abundance of Lactobacillus, Ruminococcus, Streptococcus, and Prevotella in the ileum increased significantly (P < 0.05). Compared with the control group, L-Tryptophan, 3-Phosphonyloxypyruvate, cis-Aconitate, and Carbamoyl phosphate were significantly increased in the mixed group portal vein. The result of the combinatorial analysis showed that the significantly increased microorganisms could encode the enzyme genes for the synthesis of L-Tryptophan, 3-Phosphonooxypyruvate, cis-Aconitate, and Carbamoyl phosphate. In summary, our results demonstrated that L. Rhamnosus GG ATCC53103 and L. Plantarum JL01 could stimulate the expression of skeletal muscle protein synthesis genes of weaned piglets by modulating the structure of the gut microbiota and its metabolites, thereby improving nitrogen metabolism in weaned piglets.

RESUMEN

With the continuous development of carbon-based materials, a variety of new materials have emerged one after another. Carbon Quantum Dots (CQDs) have succeeded in standing out from the crowd of new materials due to their better optical properties in biomedicine, ion detection, anti-counterfeiting materials and photocatalysis. In recent years, through the continuous exploration of CQDs, research scholars have found that the organic substances or heavy metals contained in traditional ones can cause irreversible harm to people and the environment. Therefore, the application of traditional CQDs in future studies will be gradually limited. Among various new materials, biomass raw materials have the merits of good biocompatibility, lower toxicity and green and environmental protection, which largely overcome the defects of traditional materials and have attracted many scholars to focus on the research and development of various biomass CQDs. This paper summarises the optical properties, fluorescence mechanisms, synthetic methods, functionalisation modulation of biomass CQDs and their relevant research progress in the fields of ion detection, bioimaging, biomedicine, biosensing, solar cells, anti-counterfeit materials, photocatalysis and capacitors. Finally, the paper concludes with some discussion of the challenges and prospects of this exciting and promising field of application.

RESUMEN

In recent years, clinical cases of inclusion body hepatitis (IBH) and hydropericardium syndrome (HPS) have been emerging and increasing in chicken flocks worldwide. Mixed infections with 2 or more fowl adenovirus (FAdV) serotypes were common in these cases. Herein, we collected a clinical sample that was positive for FAdV from 40-day-old broilers with IBH and HPS symptoms in Shandong province of China and determined the complete genome of FAdVs on the Illumina HiSeq4000 platform. The results showed that the sample contained 2 FAdV strains of D species and C species and named SD1763-1 and SD1763-2 respectively. The genome of SD1763-1 strain was 43,913 nt in length, with a G+C content of 53.51%, whereas SD1763-2 strain was 43,721 nt in length, with a G+C content of 54.87%. Sequence alignment and phylogenetic analysis revealed that strain SD1763-1 was clustered together with serotype 2/11 of FAdV-D, and SD1763-2 was clustered together with FAdV-4. There is no recombination between the genomes of the 2 viruses of FAdV-D and FAdV-C in the present study. This is the first report of obtaining 2 genomic sequences of FAdV strains simultaneously by direct use of deep sequencing in one clinical individual chicken sample, which provided direct evidence for mixed infections of adenovirus serotypes in the clinic and enriched the genome data to explore the geographic biomarkers and virulence signatures of the genus Aviadenovirus.

RESUMEN

Tight junctions (TJs) are located in the apical region of the junctions between epithelial cells and are widely found in organs such as the brain, retina, intestinal epithelium, and endothelial system. As a mechanical barrier of the intestinal mucosa, TJs can not only maintain the integrity of intestinal epithelial cells but also maintain intestinal mucosal permeability by regulating the entry of ions and molecules into paracellular channels. Therefore, the formation disorder or integrity destruction of TJs can induce damage to the intestinal epithelial barrier, ultimately leading to the occurrence of various gastrointestinal diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). However, a large number of studies have shown that TJs protein transport disorder from the endoplasmic reticulum to the apical membrane can lead to TJs formation disorder, in addition to disruption of TJs integrity caused by external pathological factors and reduction of TJs protein synthesis. In this review, we focus on the structural composition of TJs, the formation of clathrin-coated vesicles containing transmembrane TJs from the Golgi apparatus, and the transport process from the Golgi apparatus to the plasma membrane via microtubules and finally fusion with the plasma membrane. At present, the mechanism of the intracellular transport of TJ proteins remains unclear. More studies are needed in the future to focus on the sorting of TJs protein vesicles, regulation of transport processes, and recycling of TJ proteins, etc.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to explore the expression and prognostic significance of PIK3CB in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and to analyse the possible molecular mechanism that promotes LUAD development. METHODS: Differences of PIK3CB expression at transcriptional level between LUAD and normal tissues were analysed with the Timer and UALCAN databases. Then, immunohistochemical staining was performed to investigate PIK3CB expression at the protein level, and relationships between PIK3CB and clinical characteristics were accessed. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression were performed to identify the independent prognostic risk factors for LUAD. Genetic alterations were analysed using the cBioPortal database. The main coexpressed genes and enrichment pathways of PIK3CB were estimated with the LinkedOmics database. RESULTS: Compared with normal tissues, PIK3CB was higherly expressed in LUAD at the transcriptional level and protein level, respectively. PIK3CB expression was closely related to prognosis of LUAD patients, and PIK3CB protein expression was associated with lymph node metastasis and pathological differentiation, but not related to sex, age, pleural invasion, vascular invasion, tumour site, tumour size or clinical stage. PIK3CB and tumour size were independent risk factors for LUAD patients. The expression of PIK3CB was negatively correlated with AKT1 and AKT2, but there was no significant correlation with AKT3, and strong positive correlations with ARMC8, DNAJC13 and PIK3R4. The main enrichment pathways of PIK3CB and related genes included adherens junctions and the phosphatidylinositol signalling pathways, ErbB signalling pathways, Hedgehog signalling pathways, and C-type lectin receptor signalling pathways. Therefore, we hypothesized that PIK3CB expression did not promote LUAD development through the classical PI3K/AKT pathway. CONCLUSION: High PIK3CB expression was associated with the development of LUAD and worse prognosis. PIK3CB was an independent risk factor for LUAD patients. Therefore, this study provides a reliable reference for the prognostic assessment and targeted therapy for LUAD patients.

RESUMEN

To further improve the line transport capacity, virtual coupling has become a frontier hot topic in the field of rail transit. Specially, the safe and efficient following control strategy based on relative distance braking mode (RDBM) is one of the core technologies. This paper innovatively proposes a cooperative collision-avoidance control methodology, which can enhance the operation efficiency on the premise of ensuring the safety. Firstly, a novel framework for the RDBM based on the predicted trajectory of the preceding train is proposed for the train collision-avoidance control. To reduce the train following distance, a cooperative control model is further proposed and is formulated as a Markov decision process. Then, the Deep-Q-Network (DQN) algorithm is introduced to solve the efficient control problem by learning the safe and efficient control strategy for the following train where the critical elements of the reinforcement learning framework are designed. Finally, experimental simulations are conducted based on the simulated environment to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. Compared with the absolute distance braking mode (ADBM), the minimum following distance between the adjacent trains can be reduced by 70.23% on average via the proposed approach while the safety can be guaranteed.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis), Enterococcus faecium (E. faecium), and Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) are probiotics that are widely used in the clinical treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Whether the supernatants of these three probiotics can improve gastrointestinal sensation and movement by regulating the serotonin transporter (SERT) expression needs to be clarified. AIM: To investigate whether B. subtilis, E. faecium, and E. faecalis supernatants can upregulate SERT expression in vitro and in vivo. METHODS: Caco-2 and HT-29 cells were stimulated with probiotic culture supernatants for 12 and 24 h, respectively. A male Sprague-Dawley rat model of post-infectious irritable bowel syndrome (PI-IBS) was established and the rats were treated with phosphate-buffered saline (group A) and three probiotics culture supernatants (groups B, C, and D) for 4 wk. The levels of SERT were detected by quantitative PCR and western blotting. RESULTS: The levels of SERT at post-treatment 12 and 24 h were significantly elevated in Caco-2 cells treated with B. subtilis supernatant compared with those in the control group (a P < 0.05). Those levels were markedly upregulated in Caco-2 cells stimulated with E. faecium and E. faecalis supernatants at 24 h (a P < 0.05). In addition, SERT expression in groups B, C, and D was significantly higher than that in group A in the 2nd wk (a P < 0.05). Increased SERT expression was only found in group D in the 3rd wk (a P < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference in SERT expression between the groups in the last week (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The supernatants of B. subtilis, E. faecium, and E. faecalis can upregulate SERT expression in intestinal epithelial cells and the intestinal tissues in the rat model of PI-IBS.

RESUMEN

Background: This study aimed to explore the feasibility and safety of single-incision plus one-port laparoscopic total gastrectomy (SITG + 1) with Overlap esophagojejunostomy (SITG + 1-Overlap) and to share preliminary experiences. Methods: This retrospective study included 10 patients with gastric cancer located in the cardia or body who underwent SITG + 1-Overlap between August 2020 and October 2021.The demographics, tumor characteristics, postoperative outcomes, and short-term complications of all the enrolled patients were summarized and statistically analyzed. Data were expressed as mean ± standard deviation (SD) if they were normally distributed. Otherwise, Median (Quartile1, Quartile3) was used. Results: In the collective perioperative data of these 10 patients who underwent radical gastrectomy, the median of the length of transumbilical incision and blood loss were 3.0 cm and 100.0 ml respectively, and the mean operation time and 385.5 ± 51.6 min. Postoperative data indicated that the gastric tube was removed on 2.0 (2.0, 3.0) days, and the timing of first feeding, activity, flatus, and defecation was 1.5 (1.0, 2.0) days, 2.0 (2.0, 2.0) days, 3.0 (2.0, 3.0) days, and 3.8 ± 0.6 days, respectively. The timing of drainage tube removal was 4.6 ± 1.0 days after operation. The duration of hospital stay was 7.5 ± 1.2 days and the VAS pain scores for the 3 days following surgery were 3.0 (2.0, 3.3), 2.0 (2.0, 3.0), and 1.5 (1.0, 2.0) respectively. The mean number of retrieved lymph nodes was 30.7 ± 13.2. Most biochemical indicators gradually normalized with the recovery of the patients after surgery. No 30-day postoperative complications were noted. Conclusions: For the first time, our preliminary data indicate the feasibility and safety of Overlap esophagojejunostomy in SITG + 1 surgery. This modified Overlap procedure has the potential to simplify the reconstruction procedure and lower the technical challenge of SITG + 1 radical gastrectomy for cardia or upper gastric cancer in the early and advanced stages.
