RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to determine if immune or nonimmune and acute or chronic lesions associated with mesangiolysis (MGLS) occurred in biopsy-proven pathological chronic active antibody-mediated rejection (P-CAABMR) in kidney transplant biopsies. METHODS: We evaluated MGLS in 41 patients with biopsy findings of P-CAABMR from January 2016 to December 2019. Histological scoring was evaluated by Banff classification. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed using a forward selection method. RESULTS: Fifteen of the 41 P-CAABMR biopsies (36.6%) cases showed MGLS. The estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was significantly lower in the MGLS-positive compared with the MGLS-negative group, and proteinuria was significantly higher in the MGLS-positive compared with the MGLS-negative group. In the clinical model, multivariate analysis was performed using covariates of eGFR and duration after transplantation significantly correlated with MGLS by simple analysis, in addition to type of calcineurin inhibitor use (tacrolimus or cyclosporine), donor-specific antibodies, diabetes, and hypertension grade defined by use of antihypertensive therapy or/and blood pressure level. Only hypertension grade was significantly correlated with MGLS. In the pathological model, multivariate analysis was performed using the presence of FSGS and the aah and cg scores significantly correlated with MGLS by simple analysis, in addition to g and ptc scores. The cg score was significantly correlated with hypertension grade, duration after transplantation, g, ah, and aah. CONCLUSION: Lower graft function and higher proteinuria was observed in MGLS of P-CAABMR. The Banff cg score was independently related to MGLS in multivariate analysis. Sustained glomerulitis, calcineurin inhibitor nephrotoxicity, and hypertension may cause Banff cg lesions, leading to MGLS in P-CAABMR.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study was to clarify whether or not body armor would protect the body of a swine model using a blast tube built at National Defense Medical College, which is the first such blast tube in Japan. Seventeen pigs were divided into two groups: the body armor group and the non-body armor group. Under intravenous anesthesia, the pigs were tightly fixed in the left lateral position on a table and exposed from the back neck to the upper lumbar back to the blast wave and wind with or without body armor, with the driving pressure of the blast tube set to 3.0 MPa. When the surviving and dead pigs were compared, blood gas analyses revealed significant differences in PaO2, PaCO2, and pH in the super-early phase. All pigs injured by the blast wave and wind had lung hemorrhage. All 6 animals in the body armor group and 6 of the 11 animals in the control group survived for 3 hours after injury. Respiratory arrest immediately after exposure to the blast wave was considered to influence the mortality in our pig model. Body armor may have a beneficial effect in protecting against respiratory arrest immediately after an explosion.

RESUMEN

Fluoroalkyl end-capped vinyltrimethoxysilane oligomeric silica/alkyl-modified cellulose (AM-Cellu) nanocomposites [RF-(CH2-CHSiO2)n-RF/AM-Cellu; n = 2, 3; RF = CF(CF3)OC3F7] were prepared by the sol-gel reactions of the corresponding oligomer [RF-(CH2-CHSi(OMe)3)n-RF] in the presence of AM-Cellu. The nanocomposites thus obtained were applied to the surface modification of glass to exhibit a highly oleophobic/superhydrophilic characteristic on the modified surface at 20 °C. Interestingly, a temperature dependence of contact angle values of dodecane and water was observed on the modified surface at 20~70 °C, and the dodecane contact angle values were found to decrease with increasing the temperatures from 20 to 70 °C to provide from highly oleophobic to superoleophilic characteristics on the surface. On the other hand, the increase of the water contact angle values was observed with the increase in the temperatures under similar conditions to supply superhydrophilic to superhydrophobic characteristics on the modified surface. The corresponding nanocomposites were also applied to the surface modification of the filter paper under similar conditions to afford a superoleophilic/superhydrophobic characteristic on the surface. It was demonstrated that the modified filter paper is effective for the separation membrane for W/O emulsion to isolate the transparent colorless oil.
