RESUMEN

The prevalence of Seoul virus in the Primorie territory is presented and its significance in the morbidity structure with regard to hemorrhagic fever with the renal syndrome (HLPS) is discussed. Epidemiological and clinical manifestations of HLPS caused by Seoul virus are described. The authors conclude that in the urban foci of HLPS it is associated mainly with Seoul virus, while in the rural foci, with Hantaan virus.

RESUMEN

A fluorescent dihydropyridine (DHP) derivative, ryodipine, was used to study structural characteristics of the DHP-sensitive Ca-channels in nerve terminals (synaptosomes) isolated from the rat cerebral cortex. It was found that an inductive resonance energy transfer from membrane proteins to ryodipine occurred in synaptosomal membranes. Two groups of membrane proteins differentially accessible to ryodipine were found by quenching of their own fluorescence. The percentage of group I proteins (20%) whose fluorescence was quenched by up to 1 microM ryodipine, was increased by 50% upon K(+)-depolarization and remained unchanged upon the addition of 100 microM Ni2+, whereas the addition of 100 microM Cd2+ prevented the increase induced by K(+)-depolarization. Nifedipine and nicardipine competed with ryodipine for the DHP receptor as evidenced by the change in percentage of group I proteins. The percentage of group II proteins (50% at 10 microM ryodipine) remained unchanged during various functional alterations of the synaptosomal membranes. Model experiments on proteoliposomes demonstrated that binding of ryodipine to synaptosomal membranes was due mainly to the hydrophobicity of DHP but not the ligand-receptor interaction. Nonetheless we that the membrane proteins-ryodipine system could be a qualitative test for the functional state of DHP-sensitive Ca-channels.

RESUMEN

Thirty-five patients with acute inflammations of the soft tissues were treated with procain blockages of the cervical sympathetic ganglia. This treatment modality has helped cut down the patients' hospitalization period by 3-4 days and did not involve therapy with other drugs, this being an important factor for patients with antibacterial drug allergies, contributing to improvement of the efficacy of the suggested method.

RESUMEN

The possibility to use 0.1% quercetin solution for the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the parotid glands was studied. The effectiveness of treatment of 26 patients was estimated according to the data of clinical examination and cytologic study of the saliva. The results obtained evidence in favour of a high effectiveness of the preparation suggested.

RESUMEN

Examinations of 137 patients with inflammatory diseases of the maxillofacial area and neck, treated with baliz-2, have shown that this agent is characterized by a manifest antibacterial action on the wound microflora, helps thinning the purulent exudate, and accelerates detachment of the necrotic mass. No cases of local irritation were recorded.

RESUMEN

The authors have developed this system (AIS), realized via CM 1420 mini-computer for many-terminal regime. The program provides operation in both the instruction and control modes; the control is realized via a display, that permits individual dialogues of students with the computer. The dialogue involves 12-16 questions in the curriculum. The answers are estimated and remembered by the computer. When the operation in the control mode is over, a register with students' marks is printed out. Therefore, the suggested AIS promotes autotraining of the students in this course and rules out the subjective aspects in assessment of students' knowledge.

RESUMEN

Infrared thermography proved useful for the diagnosis and treatment efficacy studies in the mandibular trauma injuries, trigeminal neuralgies, facial and cervical purulent inflammatory diseases. It appeared also effective in detection of dangerous complications: odontogenous mediastinitis and facial veins thrombophlebitis.

RESUMEN

The microstructure of lipid bilayer in synaptosomes from rat brain upon K+-depolarization (30 mM) was studied using the inductive resonance energy transfer (IRET) from proteins to the fluorescent probes, pyrene and DMC (4-dimethylaminochalcone). The effectiveness of IRET was not changed by the K+-depolarization. The monomer-to-eximer ration (Fm285/Fe285) of pyrene fluorescence intensities in IRET was 1.5 times lower upon depolarization than in controls. This suggested a decreased microviscosity of the lipid bilayer in immediate environment to proteins of the synaptosomal membrane. The Fm338/Fee338 ratio as well as polarization of DMC fluorescence indicative of the bulk lipid phase were not altered under these conditions. Neither cytochalasin B not colchicine had any effect on fluorescence polarization of DMC both in control and depolarized synaptosomes. It is suggested that the increased lateral mobility of protein-associated lipid molecules found in depolarized synaptosomes may be caused by alterations in the activity of ion channels and ion pumps or by restructuring of the cytoskeletal network.

RESUMEN

The effect of antioxidant--alpha-tocopherol--on Ca2+-transporting system in sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) of the rabbit skeletal muscles was studied in hypercholesterolemia (HC). alpha-tocopherol administration to animals with HC produced a break on the curve of temperature dependence of Ca-ATPase activity at about 20 degrees C, that disappeared in HC, increased the rate of "rapid" SH-group binding by thiol reagents, and normalized the level of unsaturated fatty acids in SR membranes without altering phospholipid content. It is suggested that the damage of Ca-ATPase in HC is mainly due to activation of lipid peroxidation.
