RESUMEN

A tooth that fails to erupt into a normal functional position by the time it normally should is considered impacted. Impactions of primary teeth are extremely rare, but when it does occur it usually involves the first and second molar. The purpose of this article is to present a case of a four-year-old patient with an impaction of an inverted primary mandibular incisor. On the basis of the patient's family history, the case might be considered as microform of ectodermal dysplasia.

RESUMEN

Conjoining abnormalities occur in less than 1 percent of the population. Triplication of primary teeth is even a rarer phenomenon with a prevalence of 0.02 percent. This study describes the clinical features and the light microscopic appearance of a case of triplicated primary teeth. The teeth with the conjoined defect were examined by light microscopy to evaluate the exact level and appearance of the fusion area. The light microscopic examination revealed grooves and cracks consisting of enamel and dentine in the fusion area, fusion was irregular and both dentin and cementum were confluent. It is concluded that the clinician should identify children were conjoined anomalies and should be aware of the oncoming problems.

RESUMEN

The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the crypt formation and calcification of the maxillary and mandibular third molars according to age and gender on panoramic radiographs in a group of Turkish children. Four hundred panoramic radiographs of 188 female and 212 male dental patients, ages six to thirteen years, were examined by two observers. The interrater reliability was tested by Kappa statistics. The earliest age for maxillary third molar crypt formation was eight years; mandibular third molars could be seen radiographically as early as seven years.

RESUMEN

This article presents different treatment aspects in three mandibular lateral incisor-canine transposition cases. The early identification of transposed teeth simplifies orthodontic correction. Incomplete transposition cases can be managed successfully by interceptive orthodontic treatment. If complete transposition occurs, two treatment alternatives may be possible: Extraction of the transposed tooth or keep the teeth in their transposed positions.

RESUMEN

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the surface topography of mandibular natal and neonatal incisors at the ultrastructural level using the scanning electron microscope (SEM). The enamel of the teeth exhibited hypoplastic, depressed areas and the incisal edge of natal tooth lacked enamel. In addition, root formation of the teeth was not completed, which correlated with findings that teeth may erupt without root formation.

RESUMEN

Supernumerary teeth may lead to impaction or ectopic eruption of maxillary incisors, crowding, oronasal fistula, follicular cyst, migration of adjacent teeth and root resorption. In this presentation, an 11-year-old male patient with 4 supernumerary teeth in the maxillary anterior region and a slight mental retardation problem will be presented. After extraction of the supernumerary teeth, the large space created by distal migration of central incisors was closed by orthodontic treatment. Although initial patient compliance was weak and caused difficulties in the course of treatment, orthodontic treatment was completed successfully.

RESUMEN

Early eruption of primary teeth rarely occurs and is referred to as "natal or neonatal teeth". These teeth may cause some complications, including ulceration of the sublingual area, pain during suckling and future nutritional problems. A two-month-old infant suffering from sublingual area ulceration due to two neonatal teeth was examined. His teeth were extracted and healing of the ulcerated area was observed within the first week.

RESUMEN

The case describes a double molar tooth in a seven-year-old girl who has ectodermal dysplasia. The most characteristic dental findings in ectodermal dysplasia are hypodontia and conically shaped crowns. In our case a double tooth was also present in the primary molar region, in addition to these characteristic findings.

RESUMEN

Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) comprises a diverse group of hereditary enamel disorders that are characterized by hypoplastic and in some cases hypomineralized defects. Purpose of this investigation was to characterize the ultrastructure of autosomal recessive smooth hypoplastic amelogenesis imperfecta enamel. The primary teeth that exfoliated physiologically were studied by scanning electron microscopy. By using scanning electron microscope, multiple shallow depressions and deep tubular voids were observed. Irregular enamel, irregularities in enamel crystallites, hypoplastic areas on the enamel surface were seen.

RESUMEN

Fusion has been described as a developmental anomaly characterized by the union of two adjacent teeth. Supernumerary teeth develop as a consequence of the proliferation of epithelial cells from dental lamina. In this paper a fusion between maxillary central incisor and a supernumerary tooth which required endodontic, surgical and periodontal treatment is presented.

RESUMEN

Dens invaginatus is a developmental malformation that mostly affects maxillary lateral teeth and mandibular teeth are rarely affected. In this paper a mandibular central incisor with a dens invaginatus is identified as requiring both endodontic and surgical treatment is presented. At one year recall appointment satisfactory clinical and radiographic healing was evident. This case demonstrates that also periapical surgery should be performed in some cases with dens invaginatus for resolution of periapical tissues.
