BACKGROUND: Robotic-assisted surgery (RAS) is increasingly used for treating low rectal cancer. Its comparative effectiveness against laparoscopic surgery (LAS) in enhancing long-term anal function remains uncertain. METHODS: A meta-analysis was conducted to compare long-term anal function outcomes between patients undergoing RAS and LAS. Meta-regression and sensitivity analyses were performed to assess available evidence. Studies published up to September 2023 in English or Chinese were included. RESULTS: Seven studies were identified. RAS patients exhibited lower low anterior resection syndrome (LARS) scores (standardised mean difference [SMD] = -1.39; 95% confidence interval [CI]: -2.64 to -0.15) and Wexner scores (SMD = -0.74; 95% CI: -1.20 to -0.27) compared with LAS patients. However, RAS did not significantly reduce major LARS risk (odds ratio = 0.85; 95% CI: 0.68-1.04). CONCLUSIONS: RAS slightly improved postoperative anal function compared with LAS. Further studies with large samples are warranted to confirm or update our findings.

Drug resistance and tumor recurrence remain clinical challenges in the treatment of urothelial carcinoma (UC). However, the underlying mechanism is not fully understood. Here, we performed single-cell RNA sequencing and identified a subset of urothelial cells with epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) features (EMT-UC), which is significantly correlated with chemotherapy resistance and cancer recurrence. To validate the clinical significance of EMT-UC, we constructed EMT-UC like cells by introducing overexpression of two markers, Zinc Finger E-Box Binding Homeobox 1 (ZEB1) and Desmin (DES), and examined their histological distribution characteristics and malignant phenotypes. EMT-UC like cells were mainly enriched in UC tissues from patients with adverse prognosis and exhibited significantly elevated EMT, migration and gemcitabine tolerance in vitro. However, EMT-UC was not specifically identified from tumorous tissues, certain proportion of them were also identified in adjacent normal tissues. Tumorous EMT-UC highly expressed genes involved in malignant behaviors and exhibited adverse prognosis. Additionally, tumorous EMT-UC was associated with remodeled tumor microenvironment (TME), which exhibited high angiogenic and immunosuppressive potentials compared with the normal counterparts. Furthermore, a specific interaction of COL4A1 and ITGB1 was identified to be highly enriched in tumorous EMT-UC, and in the endothelial component. Targeting the interaction of COL4A1 and ITGB1 with specific antibodies significantly suppressed tumorous angiogenesis and alleviated gemcitabine resistance of UC. Overall, our findings demonstrated that the driven force of chemotherapy resistance and recurrence of UC was EMT-UC mediated COL4A1-ITGB1 interaction, providing a potential target for future UC treatment.

OBJECTIVE: To put forward a new index of cervical curvature evaluation - relative cervical curvature area,and a new classification of cervical spine was proposed according to the relative cervical curvature area. METHODS: A total of 167 subjects with cervical spondylosis were included in the study. Firstly, 119 subjects were selected to measure C2-C7 lordosis angle by Cobb angle method, Harrison posterior tangent method and Jackson physiological stress line method, and then their relative cervical curvature area, C1-C7 Cobb angle, C7 slope and T1 slope were measured.The correlation between relative cervical curvature area and three measurement methods and common sagittal parameters was analyzed.According to the angle classification method, we calculated the diagnostic boundary value of the relative cervical curvature area classification, and selected 48 subjects to evaluate its diagnostic efficacy.Finally, 119 subjects were re-evaluated according to the diagnostic threshold and the number of intersections to verify the feasibility of the new classification. RESULTS: The results showed that the relative cervical curvature area index had good intra-observer and inter-observer repeatability. Relative cervical curvature area was correlated with Harrison posterior tangent method ( r = 0.930 ), Cobb angle method ( r = 0.886 ) and Jackson physiological stress line method ( r = 0.920 ), and correlated with C1-C7 Cobb angle, C7 slope and T1 slope.The relative cervical curvature area has a good diagnostic performance for distinguishing patients with lordosis, straightening and kyphosis.According to the new classification of cervical spine, 119 subjects were divided into 57 simple lordosis, 11 simple straightening, 4 simple kyphosis, 26 S-type and 21 RS-type. CONCLUSION: The relative cervical curvature area uses the area parameter instead of the original angle parameter and distance parameter to incorporate the change of segmental curvature, which makes up for the shortcomings of the Cobb angle method that only evaluates the curvature of two vertebrae, and better reflects the cervical curvature.Studies have shown that relative cervical curvature area has good repeatability and diagnostic value, and found that it has a good correlation with common cervical sagittal parameters.The new classification of cervical spine makes up for the disadvantage that the angle classification method cannot distinguish between S-type and RS-type, and initially proposes to use the number of intersections and the relative absolute value area to reflect the severity of S-type.

The utilization of rice heterosis is essential for ensuring global food security; however, its molecular mechanism remains unclear. In this study, comprehensive analyses of accessible chromatin regions (ACRs), DNA methylation, and gene expression in inter-subspecific hybrid and its parents were performed to determine the potential role of chromatin accessibility in rice heterosis. The hybrid exhibited abundant ACRs, in which the gene ACRs and proximal ACRs were directly related to transcriptional activation rather than the distal ACRs. Regarding the dynamic accessibility contribution of the parents, paternal ZHF1015 transmitted a greater number of ACRs to the hybrid. Accessible genotype-specific target genes were enriched with overrepresented transcription factors, indicating a unique regulatory network of genes in the hybrid. Compared with its parents, the differentially accessible chromatin regions with upregulated chromatin accessibility were much greater than those with downregulated chromatin accessibility, reflecting a stronger regulation in the hybrid. Furthermore, DNA methylation levels were negatively correlated with ACR intensity, and genes were strongly affected by CHH methylation in the hybrid. Chromatin accessibility positively regulated the overall expression level of each genotype. ACR-related genes with maternal Z04A-bias allele-specific expression tended to be enriched during carotenoid biosynthesis, whereas paternal ZHF1015-bias genes were more active in carbohydrate metabolism. Our findings provide a new perspective on the mechanism of heterosis based on chromatin accessibility in inter-subspecific hybrid rice.

7-Aminoindoles are important synthetic intermediates to a broad range of bioactive molecules. Transition metal-catalyzed directed C-H amination is among the most straightforward route for their synthesis, whereas methods that could directly incorporate an NH2 group in a highly selective manner remains elusive. Moreover, there is still high demand for the development of earth-abundant metal catalysis for such attractive reactivity. We present here the first C-7 selective NH2 amination of indoles through a directed homolytic aromatic substitution (HAS) with iron-aminyl radical. The reaction exhibits broad substrate scope, tolerates variety of functional groups, and is readily scalable with catalyst loading down to 0.1 mol% and turnover number (TON) up to 4500.

INTRODUCTION: Unplanned readmission is an important indicator for evaluating medical care quality. Adult liver transplant patients have high risk for readmission, which seriously affects their recovery. As there is currently a lack of research on risk factors for unplanned readmission of adult liver transplant patients in China, the purpose of this study was to elucidate such risk factors. METHODS: Data for patients undergoing liver transplantation surgery at a tertiary hospital in Zhejiang Province from March 2018 to July 2022 were retrospectively collected. Patients were divided into readmission and nonreadmission groups based on whether unplanned readmission occurred within 90 days. Univariate analysis and logistic regression were used to analyze risk factors for unplanned readmission. RESULTS: In total, 123 adult liver transplant patients were included; 38 had unplanned readmission, for a rate of 30.8%. There was a statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of age, educational level, operation time, intraoperative bleeding volume, number of complications, postoperative hospital stay, and hemoglobin (P < .05). Logistic regression analysis showed that age [OR = 1.085, 95% CI (1.022, 1.152)], operation time [OR = 1.010, 95% CI (1.001, 1.020)], postoperative hospital stay [OR = 1.124, 95% CI (1.023, 1.235)], and number of complications [OR = 4.487, 95% CI (1.234, 16.319)] were independent risk factors for unplanned readmission in adult liver transplant patients (P < .05). CONCLUSIONS: The current situation of unplanned readmission for adult liver transplant patients cannot be ignored, indicating that staff should identify risk factors for unplanned readmission as soon as possible and take targeted personalized measures and health education to reduce readmission risk.

As one of the most common cancers, accurate, rapid, and simple histopathological diagnosis is very important for breast cancer. Raman imaging is a powerful technique for label-free analysis of tissue composition and histopathology, but it suffers from slow speed when applied to large-area tissue sections. In this study, we propose a dual-modal Raman imaging method that combines Raman mapping data with microscopy bright-field images to achieve virtual staining of breast cancer tissue sections. We validate our method on various breast tissue sections with different morphologies and biomarker expressions and compare it with the golden standard of histopathological methods. The results demonstrate that our method can effectively distinguish various types and components of tissues, and provide staining images comparable to stained tissue sections. Moreover, our method can improve imaging speed by up to 65 times compared to general spontaneous Raman imaging methods. It is simple, fast, and suitable for clinical applications.

Chronic pancreatitis is usually accompanied by pancreatic duct stenosis and pancreatic duct stones (1). Pancreatic duct stent implantation can effectively drain pancreatic fluid and relieve symptoms. However, in many cases this is not easy, because of the presence of stones or the pancreatic duct is too narrow, the guide wire may not be able to enter the distal pancreatic duct. We present a case of chronic pancreatitis with pancreatic duct stenosis in which we assisted the passage of guidewires through the pancreatic duct stenosis by means of pancreatic duct occupation.

Paxlovid has been approved for use in patients who are at high risk for severe acute COVID-19 illness. Evidence regarding whether Paxlovid protects against Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC), or Long COVID, is mixed in high-risk patients and lacking in low-risk patients. With a target trial emulation framework, we evaluated the association of Paxlovid treatment within 5 days of SARS-CoV-2 infection with incident Long COVID and hospitalization or death from any cause in the post-acute period (30-180 days after infection) using electronic health records from the Patient-Centered Clinical Research Networks (PCORnet) RECOVER repository. The study population included 497,499 SARS-CoV-2 positive patients between March 1, 2022, to February 1, 2023, and among which 165,256 were treated with Paxlovid within 5 days since infection and 307,922 were not treated with Paxlovid or other COVID-19 treatments. Compared with the non-treated group, Paxlovid treatment was associated with reduced risk of Long COVID with a Hazard Ratio (HR) of 0.88 (95% CI, 0.87 to 0.89) and absolute risk reduction of 2.99 events per 100 persons (95% CI, 2.65 to 3.32). Paxlovid treatment was associated with reduced risk of all-cause death (HR, 0.53, 95% CI 0.46 to 0.60; risk reduction 0.23 events per 100 persons, 95% CI 0.19 to 0.28) and hospitalization (HR, 0.70, 95% CI 0.68 to 0.73; risk reduction 2.37 events per 100 persons, 95% CI 2.19 to 2.56) in the post-acute phase. For those without documented risk factors, the associations (HR, 1.03, 95% CI 0.95 to 1.11; risk increase 0.80 events per 100 persons, 95% CI -0.84 to 2.45) were inconclusive. Overall, high-risk, nonhospitalized adult patients with COVID-19 who were treated with Paxlovid within 5 days of SARS-CoV-2 infection had a lower risk of Long COVID and all-cause hospitalization or death in the post-acute period. However, Long COVID risk reduction with Paxlovid was not observed in low-risk patients.

OBJECTIVE: In this study, we compared the analgesic effects of intercostal nerve block (ICNB), ultrasound-guided paravertebral nerve block (PVB), and epidural block (EB) following single-port thoracoscopic lung surgery. METHOD: A total of 120 patients who underwent single-hole thoracoscopic lung surgery were randomly and equally divided into three groups: ICNB group, the PVB group, and the EB group. ICNB was performed under direct thoracoscopic visualization before the conclusion of the surgery in the ICNB group, while PVB and EB were performed after general anesthesia in the PVB and EB groups, respectively. Patient-controlled intravenous analgesia (PCIA) was used following the surgery in all the groups. The following indicators were recorded: Intraoperative sufentanil dosage, anesthesia awakening time, postoperative intubation time, nerve block operation time, postoperative visual analog scale (VAS) pain scores during resting and coughing at regular intervals of 0, 2, 4, 8, 24, and 48 h, the time until first PCIA, number of effective compressions within 24 h postoperatively, number of rescue analgesia interventions, and the side effects. RESULTS: In comparison to the ICNB group, the PVB and EB groups had a lower intraoperative sufentanil dosage, significantly shorter anesthesia awakening time, and postoperative intubation time, but longer nerve block operation time, lower VAS scores when resting and coughing within 24 h postoperatively (all p-values less than 0.05). Conversely, there were no statistically significant differences in VAS scores during resting and coughing after 24 h (all p-values greater than 0.05). Time to first PCIA, number of effective compressions and number of rescue analgesia at the 24-hour mark postoperatively were significantly better in the PVB and EB groups than that in the ICNB group (P < 0.05). However, there was a higher incidence of side effects observed in the EB group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The analgesic effect of PVB and EB following single-port thoracoscopic lung surgery is better than that of ICNB. PVB causes fewer side effects and complications and is safer and more effective.

BACKGROUND: Pelvic discontinuity (PD) presents a complex challenge in revision hip arthroplasty. The traditional cup-cage construct, which involves a screw-secured porous metal cup and an overlying antiprotrusio cage, has shown promising mid- to long-term results. However, there is limited information on the outcomes of modifications to the original technique. Our study aims to evaluate a modified technique in which the cup position is determined by the placement of the overlying cage, allowing for adjustments to achieve optimal orientation. QUESTIONS/PURPOSES: Among patients treated for PD with a cup-cage construct in which the cup position was dictated by the position of the cage: (1) What are Harris hip scores achieved at a minimum of 2 years of follow-up? (2) What is the Kaplan-Meier survivorship free from aseptic loosening or component migration? (3) What is the Kaplan-Meier survivorship free from revision for any reason? (4) What surgical complications are associated with the procedure? METHODS: Between October 2013 and January 2022, we performed 805 acetabular revisions. Among these, 33 patients with PD confirmed intraoperatively were considered potentially eligible for a cup-cage construct; no other method of surgical management was used. We performed 64% (21 of 33) of these procedures from October 2013 to January 2018, with 6% (2 of 33) of patients lost to follow-up before the minimum study follow-up of 2 years; these 19 patients were monitored over a period ranging from 70 to 115 months. A further 12 patients underwent this procedure from January 2018 to January 2022, with one lost to follow-up before the minimum study follow-up of 2 years; the other patients met the minimum 2-year follow-up requirement. The remaining 30 patients with data analyzed here (10 men, 20 women) had a mean ± SD age of 61 ± 12 years and a median BMI of 29 kg/m2 (range 20 to 33 kg/m2) at the time of revision surgery. Twenty-one patients underwent revision due to aseptic loosening, and nine due to periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). The causes of PD in our patients were as follows: cup aseptic loosening without significant osteolysis in 20% (6 of 30), where the loose cup caused erosion of the host bone, leading to PD; PJI in 30% (9 of 30); intraoperative iatrogenic PD in 3% (1 of 30); and osteolysis in 47% (14 of 30), which also resulted in aseptic loosening. The median follow-up time was 79 months (range 25 to 115 months). The Harris hip score was used to evaluate clinical outcomes, with preoperative values compared with the most recent follow-up. Radiographs were reviewed by two experienced surgeons at each follow-up visit to assess component loosening (defined as migration > 5 mm or the presence of circumferential radiolucent lines) or clear migration. PD was considered healed if bridging callus or trabecular bone was visible across the site of the discontinuity. Complications were assessed through a comprehensive review of electronic medical records. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to estimate implant survivorship and radiographic loosening, with aseptic loosening or component migration as the endpoint, as well as survivorship free from any reoperation. RESULTS: The Harris hip score improved from a median of 39 (range 30 to 66) preoperatively to a median of 76 (range 30 to 90) postoperatively (median difference 33 [range 2 to 48]; p < 0.01). Within the limitations of two-dimensional (2D) radiographic imaging, successful bone graft integration and the healing of PD were noted in 83% (25 of 30) of patients. Kaplan-Meier survivorship free from radiographic signs of aseptic loosening or component migration was 100% (95% CI 100% to 100%) at 115 months. When any revision related to the acetabular component was considered the endpoint, survivorship free from acetabular component revision at 115 months after revision surgery was 100% (95% CI 100% to 100%). When the need for any reoperation was considered the endpoint, survivorship free from needing reoperation at 115 months after revision surgery was 85% for all patients (95% CI 73% to 100%). When including only patients with a follow-up time of > 4 years (20 of 30), survivorship free from needing reoperation at 115 months after revision surgery was 90% (95% CI 78% to 100%). Postoperative complications during the follow-up period included one early dislocation on the fifth day after surgery, treated with closed reduction and 6 weeks of abduction bracing. One femoral stem loosening occurred at 56 months postoperatively, although the acetabular component remained securely fixed; this patient declined revision surgery. One patient experienced a dislocation 5 months after surgery but refused treatment and opted for prolonged bed rest. Additionally, one patient underwent a debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention procedure 1 week after the revision surgery and subsequently showed no signs of infection at the latest follow-up, 38 months postoperatively. CONCLUSION: Our study highlights the effectiveness of a modified cup-cage technique in complex hip revisions, showing promising results in terms of construct survivorship and low complication rates. Surgeons could consider delaying screw fixation until after positioning the cage within the porous cup to allow for optimal adjustment and using metal augments for severe bone defects to achieve better alignment. Surgeon experience with the cup-cage technique is crucial for achieving optimal outcomes. Future studies should focus on long-term follow-up visits to assess the durability and effectiveness of these modifications and explore the comparative effectiveness versus other methods, such as custom triflange components and jumbo cups with distraction. Precisely detecting organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) is paramount in upholding human safety and environmental preservation, especially in food safety. Herein, an electrochemical acetylcholinesterase (AChE) sensing platform entrapped in chitosan (Chit) on the glassy carbon electrodes (GCEs) decorated with Pt/MoS2/Ti3C2 MXene (Pt/MoS2/TM) was constructed for the detection of chlorpyrifos. It is worth noting that Pt/MoS2/TM possesses good biocompatibility, remarkable electrical conductivity, environmental stability and large specific surface area. Besides, the heterostructure formed by the composite of TM and MoS2 improves the conductivity and maintains the original structure, which is conducive to improving the electrochemical property. The coordination effect between the individual components enables the even distribution of functional components and enhances the electrochemical performance of the biosensor (AChE-Chit/Pt/MoS2/TM). Under optimal efficiency and sensitivity, the AChE-Chit/Pt/MoS2/TM/GCE sensing platform exerts comparable analytical performance and a wide concentration range of chlorpyrifos from 10-12 to 10-6 M as well as a low limit of detection (4.71 × 10-13 M). Furthermore, the biosensor is utilized to detect OPs concerning three kinds of fruits and vegetables with good feasibility and recoveries (94.81% to 104.0%). This work would provide a new scheme to develop high-sensitivity sensors based on the two-dimensional nanosheet/laminar hybrid structure for practical applications in environmental monitoring and agricultural product detection.

Developing novel strategies for catalytic asymmetric dearomatization (CADA) reactions is highly valuable. Visible light-mediated photocatalysis is demonstrated to be a powerful tool to activate aromatic compounds for further synthetic transformations. Herein, a catalytic asymmetric dearomative [2 + 2] photocycloaddition/ring-expansion sequence of indoles with simple alkenes was reported, providing a facile access to enantioenriched cyclopenta[b]indoles with good to high yields and enantioselectivities by means of chiral lanthanide photocatalysis. This protocol exhibited a broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance, as well as potential applications in the synthesis of bioactive molecules. Mechanistic studies, including control experiments, UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, emission spectroscopy, and DFT calculations, were carried out, shedding insights into the reaction mechanism and the origin of enantioselectivity.

Both autotrophic and heterotrophic denitrification are known as important bioprocesses of microbe-mediated nitrogen cycle in natural ecosystems. Actually, mixotrophic denitrification co-driven by organic matter and reduced sulfur substances are also common, especially in hypoxic environments such as estuarine sediments. However, carbon, nitrogen and sulfur co-metabolism during mixotrophic denitrification in natural water ecosystems has rarely been reported in detail. Therefore, this study investigated the co-metabolism of carbon, nitrogen and sulfur using samples collected from four distinct natural water ecosystems. Results demonstrated that samples from various sources all exhibited the ability for co-metabolism of carbon, nitrogen and sulfur. Microbial community analysis showed that Pseudomonas and Paracoccus were dominant bacteria ranging from 65.6% to 75.5% in mixotrophic environment. Enterobacter sp. HIT-SHJ4, a mixotrophic denitrifying strain which owned the capacity for co-metabolism of carbon, nitrogen and sulfur, was isolated and reported here for the first time. The strain preferred methanol as its carbon source and demonstrated remarkable efficiency for removing sulfide and nitrate with below 100 mg/L sulfide. Under weak acid conditions (pH 6.5-7.0), it exhibited enhanced capability in converting sulfide to elemental sulfur. Its bioactivity was evident within a temperature from 25 °C to 40 °C and C/N ratios from 0.75 to 3. This study confirmed the widespread presence of microbial-mediated synergistic carbon, nitrogen and sulfur metabolism in natural aquatic ecosystems. HIT-SHJ4 emerges as a novel strain, shedding light on carbon, nitrogen and sulfur co-metabolism in natural water bodies. Biothiols play essential roles in maintaining normal physiological functions, resisting oxidative stress, and protecting cell health. Establishing an effective and reliable sensor array for the accurate quantification and discrimination of diverse biothiols is extremely meaningful. In this work, Ag/Mn3O4, Ag3PO4, and Ag3Cit with excellent oxidase-mimetic activity and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)-enhanced features have been prepared and loaded onto Whatman filter paper (WFP) to build SERS paper chips as three sensing channels, which can induce 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) oxidation to SERS-active reporters (TMBox) and concurrently generate prominent SERS signals. Nevertheless, the addition of biothiols can suppress conversion from TMB to TMBox, which can cause the reduction of the SERS signal from TMBox. Interestingly, each SERS sensing channel can generate different TMBox signals' variations due to differences in the oxidative inhibition abilities of diverse biothiols and exclusive properties of each paper chip, which can be plotted as specific fingerprint patterns of each biothiol and further translated into intuitive two-dimensional (2D) clustering profiles through linear discriminant analysis (LDA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) techniques for precise identification of these six biothiols with the minimum concentration of 1 µM. More importantly, this SERS sensor array is exploited for the precise quantification of intracellular glutathione (GSH), and can differentiate between normal and cancer cells based on different intracellular GSH contents and even identify different types of tumor cells, demonstrating its powerful application prospects in disease diagnosis.

Black carbon (BC) formed after straw burning remains in farmland soil and coexists with plastic mulch film (PMF) debris. It is unclear how BC influences soil multifunctionality in the presence of PMF debris. In this study, we determined the joint effects of BC and PMF debris on soil biochemical properties and microbial communities. We conducted a soil microcosm experiment by adding BC formed by direct burning of wheat straw and PMF debris (polyethylene (PE) and biodegradable PMF (BP)) into soil at the dosages of 1 %, and soils were sampled on the 15th, 30th, and 100th day of soil incubation for high-throughput sequencing. The results showed that the degradation of PMF debris was accompanied by the release of microplastics (MPs). BC decreased NH4+-N (PE: 68.63 %; BP: 58.97 %) and NO3--N (PE: 12.83 %; BP: 51.37 %) and increased available phosphorus (AP) (PE: 79.12 %; BP: 26.09 %) in soil containing PMF debris. There were significant differences in enzyme activity among all the treatments. High-throughput sequencing indicated that BC reduced bacterial and fungal richness and fungal diversity in PMF debris-exposed soil, whereas PMF debris and BC resulted in significant changes in the proportion of dominant phyla and genera of bacteria and fungi, which were affected by incubation time. Furthermore, BC affected microorganisms by influencing soil properties, and pH and N content were the main influencing factors. In addition, FAPRPTAX analysis indicated that BC and PMF debris affected soil C and N cycling. These findings provide new insights into the response of soil multifunctionality to BC and PMF debris.

Mitophagy, a crucial pathway in eukaryotic cells, selectively eliminates dysfunctional mitochondria, thereby maintaining cellular homeostasis via mitochondrial quality control. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) refers to a pathological condition where pulmonary arterial pressure is abnormally elevated due to various reasons, and the underlying pathogenesis remains elusive. This article examines the molecular mechanisms underlying mitophagy, emphasizing its role in PH and the progress in elucidating related molecular signaling pathways. Additionally, it highlights current drug regulatory pathways, aiming to provide novel insights into the prevention and treatment of pulmonary hypertension.

The Aim of this study was to investigate the long-term impact of left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) on cardiac function and structure in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). 157 patients with NVAF who underwent LAAO or combined with ablation were included and divided into simple LAAO group or combined group. Long term impact of LAAO on cardiac function and structure were evaluated. Results showed that the procedures were performed successfully with 6.4% complications. During follow-up, there was a significant decrease of left atrial anteroposterior diameter (LAAD) at 6 months and a significant increase of left ventricular end-diastolic dimension (LVEDD) at 12 months after LAAO. A significant decrease in plasma N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) was noted at 3 months, 6 months and 12 months after procedure. There was a significant decrease of LAAD, LVEDD, left ventricular end-systolic dimension (LVESD) and NT-proBNP levels in combined group at 3 months, 6 months and 12 months post- procedure, while an increase of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). Meanwhile, no significant change of LAAD, LVEDD, LVESD, NT-proBNP and LVEF was seen in simple LAAO group at 3 months follow-up, but a decrease of NT-proBNP during 6 months and 12 months follow-up. Compared with simple LAAO group, combined group was associated with a significant increase of residual flow. In conclusion, LAAO has no significant effect on cardiac structure and function but can significantly reduce NT-proBNP. The improvement of cardiac structure and function in combined therapy comes from the result of ablation, not LAAO.

It is desirable but challenging to develop highly-efficient catalysts for the direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from methanol and CO2. The vacancy-mediated incorporation of heteroatom into surface reconstruction is an efficient method of defect engineering for enhancing the catalytic properties. In this work, manganese-doped cerium oxide porous nanoribbons (Mn/CeO2-BTC) were prepared derived from a Ce-BTC by a sacrificial template approach. It is found that the catalytic activity of Mn/CeO2-BTC catalysts can be readily controlled by varying the amount of Mn dopants and the as-synthesized 0.1-Mn/CeO2-BTC exhibited an outstanding activity for the synthesis of DMC from CO2 and methanol, which reached a high DMC yield (6.53 mmolDMC/gcat.) without any dehydrating agents. Based on characterization results, the enhanced performance may be attributed to the defective structures caused by Mn doping and the porous nanoribbons of the CeO2 crystals, which provide more surface oxygen vacancies and acidic-basic sites, favoring adsorption and activation of CO2 and methanol.

The electronic structure of the strongly correlated electron system plutonium hexaboride is studied by using single-particle approximations and a many-body approach. Imaginary components of impurity Green's functions show that 5fj=5/2 and 5fj=7/2 manifolds are in conducting and insulating regimes, respectively. Quasi-particle weights and their ratio suggest that the intermediate coupling mechanism is applicable for Pu 5f electrons, and PuB6 might be in the orbital-selective localized state. The weighted summation of occupation probabilities yields the interconfiguration fluctuation and average occupation number of 5f electrons n5f ~ 5.101. The interplay of 5f-5f correlation, spin-orbit coupling, Hund's exchange interaction, many-body transition of 5f configurations, and final state effects might be responsible for the quasiparticle multiplets in electronic spectrum functions. Prominent characters in the density of state, such as the coexistence of atomic multiplet peaks in the vicinity of the Fermi level and broad Hubbard bands in the high-lying regime, suggest that PuB6 could be identified as a Racah material. Finally, the quasiparticle band structure is also presented.
