RESUMEN

Background: Fu's subcutaneous needling (FSN) is a novel acupuncture technique for pain treatment. This study investigated the effects of postsurgical FSN on postoperative pain in patients receiving surgery for degenerative spinal disorders. Methods: This single-center, single-blind, randomized-controlled study involved patients undergoing surgery for degenerative spinal disorders. Participants were randomized into either an FSN group or a control group that received sham FSN. The primary outcomes were scores on the Brief Pain Inventory Taiwan version (BPI-T) and Oswestry Disability Index before and at 1, 24, and 48 hours after surgery. Secondary outcomes were muscle hardness, pethidine use, and inflammatory biomarker presence. Results: Initially, 51 patients met the inclusion criteria and were allocated (26 in the FSN group and 25 in the control group). Two patients were lost to follow-up, and finally, 49 patients (25 in the FSN group and 24 in the control group) who completed the study were analyzed. The FSN group had significantly lower pain intensity measured on the BPI-T compared with the control group at 1, 24, 48, and 72 hours after surgical treatment (all p < 0.001). Additionally, pain interference as measured on the BPI-T was lower in the FSN group than in the control group 1 hour (p = 0.001), 24 hours (p = 0.018), 48 hours (p = 0.001), and 72 hours (p = 0.017) after surgical treatment. Finally, the FSN group exhibited less muscle hardness in the latissimus dorsi and gluteus maximus 24, 48, and 72 hours (all p < 0.05) after surgery compared with the control group; patients in the FSN group also exhibited less muscle hardness in the L3 paraspinal muscle 48 hours (p = 0.001) and 72 hours (p < 0.001) after surgery compared with the control group. There were no significant differences in serum CRP, IL-1ß, IL-2, IL-6, and TNF-α levels between the FSN and control groups at 24 hours, 72 hours, and 1-month post-surgery (all p > 0.05). Conclusion: FSN treatment can reduce postoperative pain in patients receiving surgery for degenerative spinal disorders. However, larger sample sizes and multicenter clinical trials are required to verify these findings.

RESUMEN

This study aims to investigate longitudinal associations between the dietary glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load (GL) and changes in glycemic and cardio-metabolic outcomes. A 28-month retrospective cohort study included 110 Vietnamese diabetic patients, collecting their dietary GI and GL values along with blood biochemical data from baseline 24-h dietary recall and medical records. Latent class growth modelling identified three distinct HbA1c trajectories during the follow-up period, with 51% of patients achieving good glycemic control. The adjusted linear mixed-effect model showed that 1 unit increase in logarithms in dietary GL was associated with a 0.14% increase in the log-HbA1c. Among poorly controlled diabetic patients, baseline GL values were positively correlated with increases in HbA1c; GI showed effects on changes in fasting plasma glucose and the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index. No significant association was observed in patients with good glycemic control.

RESUMEN

Since traditional photocatalysts have suffered from higher charge carrier recombination and moderate photocatalytic efficiency, developing photocatalysts is crucial for water treatment objectives. Hence, the various ratios of TiO2 on g-C3N4 (CN) to form nano photocatalysts were synthesized by the solvothermal method. The 30%TiO2/CN showed the best performance to degradation and debromination of 4-bromophenol (4-BP) solution completely (kobs = 6.6 × 10-2 min-1) under visible light emitted by LED (420 nm) in 30 min. Remarkably, the photocatalyst showed superior stability and reusability, maintaining its efficiency after four cycles of 4-BP degradation. The dominant ROS participating in 4-BP degradation were ●O-2 and photogenerated holes (h+), as investigated by free radical scavenging tests. The optical properties analysis revealed that the introduction of TiO2 to the bulk CN decreases electron-hole recombination and improve photocatalytic performance by facilitating electrons transfer through the TiO2 nanoparticles in a chain. The findings of this study showed that the TiO2/CN photocatalyst is a promising catalyst for the degradation of 4-BP. It exhibits a higher rate constant and photocatalytic efficiency compared with previous studies conducted under visible light irradiation.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) describes a group of progressive lung diseases causing breathing difficulties. While COPD development typically involves a complex interplay between genetic and environmental factors, genetics play a role in disease susceptibility. This study used genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and polygenic risk score (PRS) to elucidate the genetic basis for COPD in Taiwanese patients. RESULTS: GWAS was performed on a Taiwanese COPD case-control cohort with a sample size of 5,442 cases and 17,681 controls. Additionally, the PRS was calculated and assessed in our target groups. GWAS results indicate that although there were no single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of genome-wide significance, prominent COPD susceptibility loci on or nearby genes such as WWTR1, EXT1, INTU, MAP3K7CL, MAMDC2, BZW1/CLK1, LINC01197, LINC01894, and CFAP95 (C9orf135) were identified, which had not been reported in previous studies. Thirteen susceptibility loci, such as CHRNA4, AFAP1, and DTWD1, previously reported in other populations were replicated and confirmed to be associated with COPD in Taiwanese populations. The PRS was determined in the target groups using the summary statistics from our base group, yielding an effective association with COPD (odds ratio [OR] 1.09, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.02-1.17, p = 0.011). Furthermore, replication a previous lung function trait PRS model in our target group, showed a significant association of COPD susceptibility with PRS of Forced Expiratory Volume in one second (FEV1)/Forced Vital Capacity (FCV) (OR 0.89, 95% CI 0.83-0.95, p = 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Novel COPD-related genes were identified in the studied Taiwanese population. The PRS model, based on COPD or lung function traits, enables disease risk estimation and enhances prediction before suffering. These results offer new perspectives on the genetics of COPD and serve as a basis for future research.

RESUMEN

Three previously undescribed and sixteen known alkaloids were bioguidedly isolated from the bulbs of Narcissus tazetta subsp. chinensis (M.Roem.) Masamura & Yanagih. The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic data, including HRESIMS, NMR, and ECD. Eleven of the isolated alkaloids exhibited immunosuppressive activity on the proliferation of human T cells. (+)-Narciclasine (18) showed the most significantly suppressive activity with an IC50 value of 14 ± 5 nM. In vitro, (+)-narciclasine (18) blocked NF-κB signal transduction, but did not affect PI3K/AKT signal transduction. What was more, (+)-narciclasine significantly reduced ALT and AST levels and alleviated liver damage induced by ConA in AIH mouse model.

RESUMEN

Background: Pulmonary infections are significant global health burdens, and conventional diagnostic methods (culture and polymerase chain reaction), are often limited by slow results and low sensitivity. Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) offers a rapid, comprehensive alternative for identifying diverse pathogens, including rare and mixed infections. Thus, we assessed the diagnostic performance of mNGS in pulmonary infections, compared the findings with those of traditional pathogen detection methods, and explored its potential to enhance clinical diagnostics and patient care. Methods: We collected samples from 125 immunocompromised patients diagnosed with pulmonary infection at the Department of Respiratory Medicine of Shenzhen Longgang Central Hospital from March 2020 to July 2022. We compared the rate of pathogen positivity and pathogen distribution between conventional pathogen detection methods and mNGS using samples including sputum, blood, and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. Results: Among the 125 cases of unexplained pulmonary infection, 82 (65.6%) and 40 (32.0%) tested positive for pathogens using mNGS and routine culture, respectively (P < 0.05). Both methods of pathogen detection were positive in 28 (22.4%) cases (complete match, 9; complete mismatch, 13; partial match, 6). However, 43.2% of cases only tested positive using mNGS, 9.4% only tested positive using routine tests, and 24.8% tested negative using both methods. A viral infection was present in 55.2% of cases. The detection rate of mycobacteria using mNGS (12.8%) was higher than that using conventional pathogen detection methods (5.6%). Conclusion: mNGS technology enhances pathogen detection in unexplained pulmonary infections, enabling targeted antimicrobial therapy and consequently helping to reduce broad-spectrum antibiotic use, aligning treatments more closely with the causative pathogens. Thus, mNGS offers significant clinical value by improving treatment efficacy and potentially reducing antibiotic resistance in pulmonary infection cases.

RESUMEN

Surgical site infection (SSI) significantly affects patient recovery time, health outcomes and quality of life which is closely associated with the use of implants or mesh. Sutures are the most frequently used implants that play a significant role in the development of SSI. Studies have demonstrated that the administration of effective bactericidal and anti-inflammatory treatments can significantly decrease the incidence of SSI. To address this concern, a versatile suture was engineered by coating MoO3-X nanodots in this study. The incorporation of MoO3-X nanodots endowed the suture with desirable antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that were evaluated in in vitro and in vivo experiments. The results showed its remarkable ability to facilitate wound healing and prevent SSI through its dual action of combating bacterial infection and reducing inflammation. These findings highlight the promising potential of this multifunctional surgical suture as a versatile tool to promote better outcomes in surgical procedures.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Recent studies indicated that bioactive lipids of phosphatidylcholines (PCs) and lysophosphatidylcholines (LysoPCs) predict unhealthy metabolic phenotypes, but results remain inconsistent. To fill this knowledge gap, we investigated whether essential trace elements affect PC-Lyso PC remodeling pathways and the risk of insulin resistance (IR). METHODS: Anthropometric and blood biochemical data (glucose, insulin, and lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2)) were obtained from 99 adults. Blood essential/probably essential trace elements and lipid metabolites were respectively measured by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), and ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS). RESULT AND CONCLUSION: Except for LysoPC (O-18:0/0:0), an inverse V shape was observed between body weight and PC and LysoPC species. A Pearson correlation analysis showed that essential/probably-essential metals (Se, Cu, and Ni: r=-0.4∼-0.7) were negatively correlated with PC metabolites but positively correlated with LysoPC (O-18:0/0:0) (Se, Cu, and Ni: r=0.85-0.64). Quantile-g computation showed that one quantile increase in essential metals was associated with a 2.16-fold increase in serum Lp-PLA2 (ß=2.16 (95 % confidence interval (CI): 0.34, 3.98), p=0.023), which are key enzymes involved in PC/Lyso PC metabolism. An interactive analysis showed that compared to those with the lowest levels (reference), individuals with the highest levels of serum PCs (pooled, M2) and the lowest essential/probably essential metals (M1) were associated with a healthier body composition and had a 76 % decreased risk of IR (odds ratio (OR)=0.24 (95 % CI: 0.06, 0.90), p<0.05). In contrast, increased exposure to LysoPC(O-18:0/0:0) (M2) and essential metals (M2) exhibited an 8.22-times highest risk of IR (OR= 8.22 (2.07, 32.57), p<0.05) as well as an altered body composition. In conclusion, overexposure to essential/probably essential trace elements may promote an unhealthy body weight and IR through modulating PC/LysoPC remodeling pathways.

RESUMEN

Compromises between enhanced on-targeting reactivity and precise real-time monitoring in the tumor microenvironment (TME) are the main roadblocks for catalytic cancer therapy. The hallmark of a high level of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and acidic extracellular environment of the hypoxia solid tumor can underpin therapeutic and tracking performance. Herein, this work provides an activatable wintersweet-like nanohybrid consisting of titanium (Ti) doped cerium vanadate nanorods with the modification of polypyrrole (PPy) nanoparticles (CeVO4-Ti@PPy) for combinatorial therapies of breast carcinoma. The Ti dopants in the size-controllable CeVO4 nanorods lower the energy barrier (0.5 eV) of the rate-determining steps and elaborate peroxidase-like (POD-like) activities to improve the generation of toxic hydroxyl radical (·OH) according to the density functional theory (DFT) calculation. The multiple enzyme-like activities, including the intrinsic glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and catalase (CAT), achieve a record-high therapeutic efficiency. Coupling this oxidative stress with the photothermal effects of PPy enables enhanced catalytic tumor necrosis. The exterior PPy heterogeneous structure can be further doped with protons in the local acidic environment to intensify photoacoustic signals, allowing the non-invasive accurate tracking of tumors. The theranostic performance displayed negligible attenuated signals in near-infrared (NIR) windows. This organic-inorganic nanohybrid with a heterogeneous structure provides the potential to improve the overall outcomes of catalytic therapy.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this research was to assess the effect of telehealth management via WeChat on improving the quality of life of patients after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). METHODS: In this study, we retrospectively collected the clinical data of 118 patients who underwent PCI and received remote health management from our hospital via WeChat from June 2021 to September 2021 (WeChat group). The clinical data of 114 patients who underwent PCI but did not receive remote health management from our hospital from September 2020 to December 2020 were also collected (conventional group). Anxiety, depression, and quality of life scale scores were compared between the 2 groups at 6 months postdischarge. RESULTS: Six months postdischarge, patients in the WeChat group had significantly lower Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) (55.7 ± 7.2 vs 58.8 ± 6.4, P = .001) and Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) (56.0 ± 5.9 vs 58.2 ± 6.2, P = .007) scores than did those in the conventional group. Compared to those in the conventional group, the patients in the WeChat group had significantly greater 6 months post-discharge The World Health Organization Quality of Life - BREF scores in the following domains: physical (14.3 ± 1.7 vs 13.1 ± 1.7, P < .001 psychological (15.2 ± 1.3 vs 13.5 ± 1.5, P < .001 social relationship (12.9 ± 1.7 vs 12.3 ± 1.8, P = .01) and environmental (12.7 ± 2.0 vs 12.0 ± 1.9, P = .006). CONCLUSION: The use of WeChat to carry out remote health management for patients who underwent PCI can be an effective way to provide high-quality hospital medical services to patients' families and can effectively alleviate patients' anxiety and depression and enhance their quality of life.

RESUMEN

A significant decline in both incidence and prevalence of cervical cancers after widespread-introducing cervical screening strategy by Papanicolau test (Pap test) has been found in the world, but cervical cancer is still one of the most common female cancers, reporting the fourth prevalence and also one of the leading causes to result in main women-associated morbidity and mortality, particularly for those women living in low- and middle-income countries. Cervical cancer is one of the most important health concerns directly destroying the global health-care system, partly because of not only increasing the disability either secondary to diseases themselves of victims or mediated by treatment-related adverse events to the survivors but also acting as a leading cause of death of diseased patients worldwide, alarming the urgent need to do something to minimize the catastrophic diseases-related heavy socioeconomic burden. It is fortunate that cervical cancer is a preventable disease, based on its strong association with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection (more than 95%), particularly for those high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) and its high possibility by detecting HPV infection before the development of cervical cancer as well as an effective prevention by HPV vaccination. That is why WHO (World Health Organization) considers cervical cancer as a public problem and attempts to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer program by three-pillar approach (90:70:90% targets), including (1) 90% of girls are fully vaccinated with HPV vaccine by 15 years of age; (2) 70% of women are screened with a high-performance test by 35 and 45 years of age and precancerous lesions are treated early; and (3) 90% of women identified with cervical diseases receive appropriate and adequate treatment. Herein, this review focuses on the HPV vaccination as Part I, including global recommendations and Taiwan government's policy for HPV vaccination.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Acupuncture exerts an anti-inflammatory effect and is recommended by the World Health Organization as a complementary therapy for stroke. This study investigated the improvement in neurological function outcome in acute-stage intervention of acute ischemic stroke (AIS), and the anti-inflammatory effect of early acupuncture. METHODS: Fifty patients with AIS were randomly assigned to either a control group (CG, 25 patients, received sham acupuncture) or treatment group (TG, 25 patients, received acupuncture treatment). Acupuncture intervention was administered twice a week for a total of 8 sessions over 4 consecutive weeks. The primary outcome was the changes in the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), modified Rankin Scale (mRS), and Barthel Index (BI) scores. The secondary outcome was the changes in serum inflammation-related biomarker levels.(ANAIS trial) RESULTS: A total of 35 patients (18 patients in the CG and 17 patients in the TG) completed the trial. The reduction in NIHSS scores was greater in the TG than in the CG between V2 (second assessment administered after acupuncture intervention) and V1 (first assessment administered before acupuncture intervention; 4.33 ± 1.91 vs. 2.68 ± 1.42, p = 0.005) and between V3 (third assessment administered 28 days after last acupuncture intervention) and V1 (6.00 ± 2.53 vs. 3.83 ± 2.31, p = 0.012). The increase in BI scores was greater in the TG than in the CG between V2 and V1 (28.89 ± 15.39 vs. 14.21 ± 19.38, p = 0.016) and between V3 and V1 (39.41 ± 20.98 vs. 25.00 ± 18.47, p = 0.038). Among participants with high inflammation, the increase in serum IL-12p70 level between V2 and V1 was greater in the TG than in the CG (0.20 ± 0.19 vs. -0.14 ± 0.30, pg/mL p = 0.006). CONCLUSIONS: Acupuncture improved the neurological function of patients with AIS, and the relationship between acupuncture improving neurological function and anti-inflammatory effect needs further study. In addition, studies with larger sample sizes and longer follow-ups as well as multicenter clinical trials are expected in the future.

RESUMEN

Intrauterine adhesions (IUA) occurred in the reproductive-age women are a big economic and health problem, resulting in severe impairment of social, psychological and physical function of the female genital organs. IUA-related symptoms or signs are varied greatly from free of symptoms or ambiguous symptoms (an incidental finding during the intervention) to ceased menstruation and loss of fecundability. The underlying pathophysiology is not completely understood, but intrauterine damage with broken basal layers of the endometrium formatting scar tissues or fibrosis in the endometrium with subsequently causing partial or complete occlusion of the uterine cavity may be a well-accepted hypothesis. Previously, infection is the most common cause to develop IUA, but now, intrauterine surgery may be a critical cause contributing to the majority of cases of IUA. In the current review, update information about the etiology, epidemiology, pathophysiology, sequelae and prevention of IUA will be renewed. We emphasize the importance of awareness of IUA, and primary prevention should be considered in the routine clinical practice if intrauterine surgery has been applied, based on uncertainty of ideal treatment for the established IUA and unpredictable outcomes after IUA treatment. So far, evidence supports that hyaluronic acid with/without other strategy is the most valuable and effective method to reduce the formation and re-formation of IUA as well as to achieve the best fertility outcome.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The clinical outcomes between left-sided colon cancer and middle/low rectal cancer seem to be different. This study aimed to examine the effect of primary tumor location regarding the left-sided colon and middle/low rectum on the overall survival (OS) of patients who underwent colorectal hepatic metastasectomy. METHODS: Patients who underwent colorectal hepatic metastasectomy were retrospectively enrolled. Patients were classified into 2 groups according to the primary tumor location (left-sided colon and middle/low rectum). Categorical variables were compared using the chi-square test or Fisher exact test, and continuous variables were analyzed using the Student t test. Survival was analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test. The prognostic factors were analyzed by univariate and multivariate analyses using Cox proportional hazards regression models. RESULTS: Overall, 365 patients were enrolled. Patients with left-sided colon cancer had significantly better OS than those with middle/low rectal cancer (hazard ratio [HR], 0.725; P = .018), with median OS estimates of 48 and 38 months, respectively. In the subgroup analysis of RAS mutations, patients with left-sided colon cancer had significantly prolonged OS compared with those with middle/low rectum cancer (HR, 0.608; P = .034), with median OS estimates of 49 and 26 months, respectively. This observation was limited to patients with RAS mutations. CONCLUSION: According to our findings, patients with middle/low rectal cancer had poorer survival outcome and should not be categorized together with patients with left-sided colon cancer in terms of OS after colorectal hepatic metastasectomy.

RESUMEN

Monitoring hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in living organisms is very important because H2S acts as a regulator in many physiological and pathological processes. Upregulation of endogenous H2S concentration has been shown to be closely related to the occurrence and development of tumors, atherosclerosis, neurodegenerative diseases and diabetes. Herin, a novel fluorescent probe HND with aggregation-induced emission was designed. Impressively, HND exhibited a high selectivity, fast response (1 min) and low detection limit (0.61 µM) for H2S in PBS buffer (10 mM, pH = 7.42). Moreover, the reaction mechanism between HND and H2S was conducted by Job's plot, HR-MS, and DFT. In particular, HND was successfully employed to detect H2S in HeLa cells.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Meeting people's needs is positively correlated with their recovery. However, recovery services rarely include nurse-led programs tailored to the needs of these people. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a new needs-tailored recovery program by using a cluster-randomized controlled trial design. METHODS: We conducted a parallel randomized controlled trial in two community psychiatric departments, employing nurse-level clustering for intervention delivery and selecting participants through convenience sampling. The participants were people diagnosed with schizophrenia that were receiving homecare services. The experimental group (n = 82) received needs-tailored recovery program for six months. The control group (n = 82) received traditional homecare. Data were collected at baseline, post-intervention, and the three-month follow-up (the study ran from February to December 2021). The outcomes were recovery, needs, hope, empowerment, psychotic symptoms, and medication adherence. We used repeated measures ANOVA tests to examine the effect of the group × time interaction. RESULTS: The participants in the experimental group demonstrated statistically significant improvements in recovery, hope, and medication adherence compared to the control group, both immediately post-intervention and at the three-month follow-up. Moreover, they exhibited statistically significant reductions in needs compared to the control group at the three-month follow-up (p < .05). While the interaction effect for psychotic symptoms was not significant, the time effect was significant (p < .05). No significant interaction or time effect was observed for empowerment. CONCLUSION: The findings increase our understanding of recovery-oriented care that prioritizes therapeutic alliance, integrated needs assessment, individual goals, hope, and empowerment. TRIAL REGISTRATION: The Clinicaltrials.gov identifier NCT05304780 retrospectively registered on 03/31/2022.

RESUMEN

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory dermatological disease, and there is a lack of understanding of the genetic factors involved in psoriasis in Taiwan. To establish associations between genetic variations and psoriasis, a genomewide association study was performed in a cohort of 2,248 individuals with psoriasis and 67,440 individuals without psoriasis. Using the ingenuity pathway analysis software, biological networks were constructed. Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) diplotypes and haplotypes were analyzed using Attribute Bagging (HIBAG)R software and chisquare analysis. The present study aimed to assess the potential risks associated with psoriasis using a polygenic risk score (PRS) analysis. The genetic association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in psoriasis and various human diseases was assessed by phenomewide association study. METAL software was used to analyze datasets from China Medical University Hospital (CMUH) and BioBank Japan (BBJ). The results of the present study revealed 8,585 SNPs with a significance threshold of P<5x108, located within 153 genes strongly associated with the psoriasis phenotype, particularly on chromosomes 5 and 6. This specific genomic region has been identified by analyzing the biological networks associated with numerous pathways, including immune responses and inflammatory signaling. HLA genotype analysis indicated a strong association between HLAA*02:07 and HLAC*06:02 in a Taiwanese population. Based on our PRS analysis, the risk of psoriasis associated with the SNPs identified in the present study was quantified. These SNPs are associated with various dermatological, circulatory, endocrine, metabolic, musculoskeletal, hematopoietic and infectious diseases. The metaanalysis results indicated successful replication of a study conducted on psoriasis in the BBJ. Several genetic loci are significantly associated with susceptibility to psoriasis in Taiwanese individuals. The present study contributes to our understanding of the genetic determinants that play a role in susceptibility to psoriasis. Furthermore, it provides valuable insights into the underlying etiology of psoriasis in the Taiwanese community.

RESUMEN

RATIONALE: Chlorothalonil (CHT), a broad-spectrum fungicide, has been employed widely to control foliar diseases, whereas with a major metabolite of polar 4-hydroxychlorothalonil (CHT-4-OH), only an acceptable nonpolar CHT residue is allowed by most countries. This study involves the method development for CHT residue in vegetables/fruits using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) with a novel modified discharge-adaptor (DA) interface. METHODS: CHT residue was analyzed using LC-MS/MS with DA interface (LC-DA-MS/MS), developed in our previous works. A DA was placed on the electrospray tip to switch the ionization modes. A modified quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe (QuEChERS) method was applied to extract CHT residue of vegetables/fruits efficiently with less sample preparation time and analysis cost. RESULTS: CHT and CHT-4-OH spiked in four different vegetables/fruits were extracted using the modified QuEChERS method. After LC with isocratic elution, CHT and CHT-4-OH were separated within 3 min. Using LC-DA-MS/MS, the ion signals of CHT were improved two to three times, and the limit of quantification of 5 ng/g and linearity (r2 > 0.99) in the range of 5-200 ng/g were achieved using 10 g of vegetables/fruits. The precision and accuracy were within 15% each. The modified QuEChERS and LC-DA-MS/MS were applied to examine eight field-grown vegetables/fruits; 9.5 and 2588.9 ng/g of CHT were detected in two vegetables/fruits. CONCLUSION: LC-DA-MS/MS combined with modified QuEChERS was successfully applied to determine CHT residue <10 ng/g in vegetables/fruits and with satisfied validation results. The developed method could reduce both analysis cost and time, attributing to simplifications in modified QuEChERS, isocratic elution, and DA interface in LC-DA-MS/MS.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The research findings suggest that the prognosis of children with Wilms tumor (WT) is affected by various factors. Some scholars have indicated that loss of heterozygosity (LOH) on chromosome 16q is associated with a poor prognosis in patients with WT. AIM: To further elucidate this relationship, we conducted a meta-analysis. METHODS: This meta-analysis was registered in INPLASY (INPLASY2023100060). We systematically searched databases including Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane, and Google Scholar up to May 31, 2020, for randomized trials reporting any intrapartum fetal surveillance approach. The meta-analysis was performed within a frequentist framework, and the quality and network inconsistency of trials were assessed. Odds ratios and 95%CIs were calculated to report the relationship between event-free survival and 16q LOH in patients with WT. RESULTS: Eleven cohort studies were included in this meta-analysis to estimate the relationship between event-free survival and 16q LOH in patients with WT (I2 = 25%, P < 0.001). As expected, 16q LOH can serve as an effective predictor of event-free survival in patients with WT (risk ratio = 1.95, 95%CI: 1.52-2.49, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: In pediatric patients with WT, there exists a partial correlation between 16q LOH and an unfavorable treatment prognosis. Clinical detection of 16q chromosome LOH warrants increased attention to the patient's prognosis.
