RESUMEN

Background: Extended surgery with multi-visceral resection is the standard treatment for retroperitoneal liposarcoma (RLPS). Malnutrition tends to result in increased surgical complications and reduced survival. The aim of this study was to identify the prognostic role of nutritional status in patients with RLPS. Patients and methods: Data from 189 consecutive patients with RLPS who underwent surgical treatment at the Peking University Cancer Hospital Sarcoma Center between April 2011 and August 2022 were retrospectively reviewed. The following nutritional parameters were calculated: nutritional risk index, prognostic nutritional index (PNI) and Nutrition Risk Screening 2002. Time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (time-ROC) curve analysis was conducted to compare the prognostic utility of nutritional indicators. The associations between nutritional indicators and major complications, local recurrence-free survival (LRFS) and overall survival (OS) were investigated. Results: Based on the time-ROC curve analysis, the PNI was superior to other nutritional indices at predicting OS. The optimal cut-off value of PNI was 41.2. The PNI was significantly inversely associated with tumor size, tumor grade, and histological subtype. Patients in the low PNI group (< 41.2) had significantly shorter LRFS and OS than those in the high PNI (≥ 41.2) group, with higher major morbidity and mortality rates. The PNI was found to be a unique nutritional predictor that independently predicted LRFS and OS in the multivariate analysis. Conclusion: The PNI is an effective tool for nutritional assessment in patients with RLPS. A low PNI value in patients with RLPS predicts worse survival outcomes.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the correlation between hip joint musculoskeletal ultrasound score and ankylosing spondylitis (AS) disease activity, as well as to investigate the value of high frequency ultrasound in the assessment of hip joint involvement in AS. METHODS: The clinical data of 244 patients with AS who were treated in the rheumatology department of from March 2019 to March 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Among them, there 174 males and 70 females, aged from 19 to 58 years old with an average of (34.22±9.49) years old;the disease duration of AS patients ranged from 8 months to 26 years, with an average of (13.68±4.04) years. The 244 patients were divided into disease group (83 cases) and control group (161 cases) based in the presence of hip joint involuement. According to the the disease activity, patients in the disease group were further categorezed into active phase (45 cases) and stable phase (38 cases). The ultrasound scores of patients in the active and stable phases of the disease group and the control group were compared. Relevant factors of hip joint involvement in AS patients were analyzed, and analyze the correlation between ultrasound score and Bath ankylosing spondylitis disease activity score index(BASDAI), Bath ankylosing spondylitis functional index(BASFI), visual analogue score of pain (VAS), C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and the correlation between hip joint capsule score and tendon attachment end score and BASDAI, BASFI, VAS, CRP and ESR. RESULTS: The hip joint capsule score(3.06±1.12), femoral head score(1.45±0.43), tendon attachment end score(3.28±1.30) and total ultrasound score(6.65±2.31) of the disease group were higher than those of the control group(1.51±0.48)、(0.66±0.27)、(1.61±0.53)、(3.81±1.44)scores (P<0.05). Multifactor Logstic regression analysis showed that the course of disease, hip joint capsule score and total ultrasound score were independent risk factors for hip involvement in AS patients. The hip capsule score (3.65±1.22)and total ultrasound score(8.28±2.33) in the active phase of the disease group were higher than those in the stable phase (2.48±1.04)、( 6.82±1.96)scores(P<0.05). The hip joint capsule score and total ultrasonic score of AS patients were positively correlated with BASDAI, BASFI, VAS, CRP, and ESR (P<0.05, P<0.01).The score of tendon attachment end was positively correlated with CRP (P<0.05). The score of joint capsule effusion in AS patients was positively correlated with BASDAI, BASFI and VAS (P<0.05, P<0.01). The synovial blood flow score was positively correlated with BASDAI, VAS, CRP and ESR (P<0.05, P<0.01). The synovial thickening score was positively correlated with BASDAI, BASFI, VAS, CRP and ESR (P<0.05, P<0.01). There was no correlation between the score of tendon attachment end and BASDAI, BASFI, VAS, CRP and ESR. CONCLUSION: There is a correlation between hip joint ultrasonic score of hip joint and clinical indexes in AS patients.Hip joint capsule score and total ultrasonic score were independent risk factors for hip involvement in AS patients. High frequency ultrasound exhibits clinical value in the diagnosis of hip joint involvement in AS patients.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To analyze factors associated with intestinal acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(allo-HSCT) in children and to develop a prediction model for intestinal aGVHD after allo-HSCT in children. METHODS: The clinical data of 62 children who underwent allo-HSCT at the Department of Hematology of the People's Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region from February 2018 to September 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Intestinal aGVHD was evaluated according to the Mount Sinai Acute GVHD International Consortium (MAGIC) grading criteria, the variables were screened by LASSO (least absolute shrinkage and selection operator) regression analysis with 10-fold cross-validation, and developed a model for predicting intestinal aGVHD after allo-HSCT in children. RESULTS: A total of 33 (53.2%) of the 62 children developed intestinal aGVHD, of which 25 were degree II and 8 were degree III-IV. The results of screening variables by 10-fold cross-validated LASSO regression showed that the significant variables included ethnic minorities (OR =7.229; 95%CI: 2.337-22.354), platelet (PLT) (OR =0.971; 95%CI: 0.932-0.993), uric acid (UA) (OR =0.971; 95%CI: 0.935-0.988), C-reactive protein (CRP) (OR =1.217; 95%CI: 1.053-1.545), and viral infection (OR =10; 95%CI: 3.021-32.668), and these variables were independently associated with intestinal aGVHD in children (all P <0.05). A prediction model was constructed based on above variables. The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) of the model was calculated, and the AUC value was 0.985 (0.966-1), the Brier score was 0.055. The evaluation showed that the model has a high degree of discrimination and calibration. CONCLUSION: Ethnic minorities, low PLT, low UA, high CRP, and viral infections are independently associated with intestinal aGVHD in children, and early attention should be paid to these high-risk children.

RESUMEN

The majority of colorectal polyps in adults are adenomatous polyps, while hamartoma polyps are rare. Juvenile polyps are the most common type of polyp in children; however, they are rare in adults. Fecal calprotectin (FCP) is commonly elevated in inflammatory bowel disease and is rarely studied in juvenile rectal polyps. Reports of elevated FCP in solitary juvenile rectal polyps of adults are rare. A 57-year-old female was admitted to The Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University (Qingdao, China) for treatment due to intermittent stool with mucus and blood. Colonoscopy revealed a solitary polyp in the rectum with a diameter of ~2.0 cm, a short and wide subpedicle, with congested and swollen mucosa on the surface and chicken skin-like changes in the surrounding mucosa. The patient had no family history of colorectal polyps or cancer. Endoscopic submucosal dissection was used to remove the polyp. Histopathological examination indicated that the polyp was a juvenile polyp and no signs of malignancy were found. The present case report describes details on this case of an adult patient with a solitary juvenile rectal polyp with chicken skin-like changes in the surrounding mucosa and high FCP.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Synchronous multiple primary lung cancers associated with small non-dominant nodules are commonly encountered. However, the incidence, follow-up, and treatment of small non-dominant tumors have been but little studied. We explored the prevalence and management of small non-dominant tumors and factors associated with interval growth. METHODS: This observational, consecutive, retrospective single-center study enrolled patients diagnosed with synchronous multiple primary lung cancers and small non-dominant tumors (≤ 6 mm in diameter) who underwent resection of the dominant tumor. The incidence, follow-up, and management of small non-dominant tumors and predictors of nodule growth were analyzed. RESULTS: There were 88 patients (12% of all lung cancer patients) with pathological diagnoses of synchronous multiple primary lung cancers. A total of 131 (18%) patients were clinically diagnosed with at least one small (≤ 6 mm in diameter) multiple primary lung cancer non-dominant tumor. 94 patients with 125 small-nodule non-dominant tumors clinically diagnosed as multiple primary lung cancers were followed-up for at least 6 months. A total of 29 (29/125, 23.2%) evidenced small pulmonary nodules (≤ 6 mm in diameter) that exhibited interval growth on follow-up computed tomography (CT). On multivariate analysis, a part-solid nodule (compared to a pGGN) (OR 1.23; 95% CI 1.08-1.40) or a solid nodule (compared to a pGGN) (OR 3.50; 95% CI 1.94-6.30) predicted small nodule interval growth. CONCLUSION: We found a relatively high incidence of multiple primary lung cancers with small non-dominant tumors exhibiting interval growth on follow-up CT, suggesting that resection of non-dominant tumors at the time of dominant tumor resection, especially when the nodules are part-solid or solid, is the optimal treatment.

RESUMEN

We aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of endoscopic resection for the treatment of gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) under single-channel gastroscopy and double-channel gastroscopy. We identified 154 patients with GISTs of the stomach who underwent endoscopic resection and were retrospectively analyzed at our hospital between May 2016 and March 2020, including 49 patients by single-channel gastroscopy and 105 patients by double-channel gastroscopy. We observed the clinical efficacy, complications, and safety of endoscopic resection of gastric GISTs, and the data were evaluated retrospectively. All patients underwent endoscopic resection successfully, without conversion to open surgery. In the single-channel gastroscopy group, 7 patients had lesions in the gastric cardia, 17 in the gastric fundus, 20 in the gastric corpus, and 5 in the gastric antrum. In the double-channel gastroscopy group, 13 patients had lesions in the gastric cardia, 34 in the gastric fundus, 46 in the gastric body, 10 in the gastric antrum, 1 in the pylorus, and 1 in the gastric angular incisure. The double-channel gastroscopy group had a shorter operation time than the single-channel gastroscopy group (59.9 ± 34.9 minutes vs 74.8 ± 26.7 minutes; P = .009 and P < .01, respectively), while they also had a lower perforation rate than the single-channel gastroscopy group (34.3% vs 51.0%; P = .048 and P < .05, respectively). No residual or recurrent lesions were discovered in any patients by gastroscopy reexamination. Both single-channel gastroscopy and double-channel gastroscopy can provide safe, effective, feasible endoscopic resection. However, double-channel gastroscopy has some distinct advantages in endoscopic resection.

RESUMEN

Background: The systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) is a significant prognostic factor for neoplastic diseases. However, the prognostic value of SII in patients with cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) remains unclear. This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the prognostic value of preoperative SII in patients with CCA. Method: We systematically searched for relevant studies in PubMed, Scopus, EMBASE, Web of Science, PROSPERO, and Cochrane Library databases up to March 22, 2022. Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to estimate the association between SII and survival outcomes, including overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival. Results: Five studies with 1402 patients were included in this meta-analysis to determine the prognostic value of preoperative SII. The results showed that a higher SII was associated with poor OS in patients with CCA who underwent invasive surgery (HR=1.916; 95% CI, 1.566-2.343; Z=6.329; P<0.001). The results were reliable in the subgroup analysis according to country, age, sample size, SII cutoff values, and treatment methods. Conclusions: A high preoperative SII appears to be an effective and practical method for monitoring survival in patients with CCA. RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: In this study, we investigated the time course in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) advanced oxidation protein products (AOPPs) levels in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH), and ascertained the relationship between the levels of AOPPs and early brain injury (EBI), hydrocephalus and prognosis of patients with aSAH. METHODS: We measured the CSF AOPPs levels in 50 patients with aSAH at 1-3 d, 4-6 d, 7-9 d, and 10-12 d after hemorrhage. The modified Fisher grades, Hunt-Hess grades, CSF IL-6 levels, peripheral blood count of white blood cells, cerebral edema scores and hydrocephalus were used to assess the severity of brain injury. Modified Rankin Scale (mRS) scores were used to assess the prognosis. Patients with mRS scores greater than 2 were considered to have a poor outcome. RESULTS: CSF AOPPs levels were significantly higher in patients with aSAH with poor prognosis, compared to patients with good prognosis and peaked in the early stage. Among patients with aSAH, the levels of CSF AOPPs on days 1-3 were significantly correlated with modified Fisher grades, Hunt-Hess grades, CSF IL-6 levels, peripheral blood count of white blood cells, and cerebral edema scores. Also, in patients with hydrocephalus, early CSF AOPPs levels were significantly elevated. Levels of CSF AOPPs in aSAH patients on days 1-3, 4-6, and 7-9 were independently associated with poor prognosis at the 90-day follow-up, and the optimal area under the curve (AUC) values for CSF AOPPs levels were found on days 1-3. CONCLUSIONS: AOPPs may serve as the potential biomarker to assess the severity of EBI and prognosis in patients with aSAH.

RESUMEN

Up to now, a variety of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been proved to have good therapeutic effects in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the effects of their applications in liver transplant (LT) recipients are still unclear. In this analysis report, the clinical applications and therapeutic effects of ICIs on LT recipients with hepatic tumor recurrence or de novo carcinoma based on eight databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Google Scholar, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Data, and CQVIP, were investigated. And the prior treatment, disease response, adverse reactions, and prognosis of patients with malignant tumors after LT and receiving ICI treatments were analyzed. After screening, a total of 28 articles with 47 recipients on the application of ICIs after LT were included. In these patients, their median age was 57 (14-71) years and the main type of tumor after LT was HCC (59.6%). The overall remission rate following ICI treatment was 29.8% (14/47) and the disease progression rate was 68.1% (32/47). Among all these patients, 31.9% (15/47) of patients had immune rejection; the median survival time was 6.5 (0.3-48) months, and the fatality rate was 61.7% (29/47). Considering that the therapeutic effect of ICIs in LT recipients with HCC recurrence or de novo carcinoma is not ideal, ICI treatment should be carefully considered for LT patients, and further research is needed.

RESUMEN

Tiller onion is a biennial herb and a fascicular variety of onion. Tiller onion has strong tillering ability and can produce up to ten bulbs per plant. It is widely cultivated due to nutrition and special flavor. In July 2020, we observed a disease that seriously affected the normal growth of tiller onion in Halahai Town, Nongan County, Jilin Province, China. At least 70% of tiller onions in the field were affected by this disease. Aboveground parts of the symptomatic plants showed stunted growth, wilting and drying. Underground parts of infected plants were shown that onion increase tiller number but did not grow and expand. Root appeared red lesions and rot in severe cases. The bulb disc appeared brown to dark brown rot. Symptomatic roots were cut into 0.5 cm pieces and surface-sterilized by dipping in 75% ethanol for 60 s, 3% NaOCl for 3 min, and rinsing three times with sterile distilled water. Pieces were placed on potato dextrose agar (PDA) plates and incubated at 25±1℃ for 4 days. Fifteen isolates were obtained and pure-cultured through single-sporing. On PDA plates, the colonies initially had white aerial mycelia that then turned pale purple. The color of the colonies on the back of the plates was purple. Macroconidia were hyaline, falcate and 14.4 to 38.7 × 1.2 to 3.0 µm. Microconidia were hyaline, reniform or elliptic, unicellular or bicellular and were 7.62 to 19.61 µm in length, and 3.23 to 8.41 µm in width. Based on these morphological and culture characteristics, the causal agent was tentatively identified as F. proliferatum. To confirm the pathogen identity, segments of the internal transcribed spacer region of the rRNA gene ( ITS, primers ITS4 and ITS5, White et al., 1990), ß-tubulin gene (TUB2, primers T1 and T2, O'Donnell and Cigelnik, 1997), and translation elongation factor 1-alpha gene (TEF-1α, primers EF1 and EF2 from O'Donnell et al., 1998) were amplified by PCR. Per the BLASTN search, TEF-1α (Accession No. OL355013), TUB2 (Accession No. OL355012), and ITS (Accession No. OL355011) queries showed 99.26%, 100%, and 99.82% homology to F. proliferatum GenBank accessions KU872098, MH398224, and MH997878, respectively. Pathogenicity of fifteen isolates of F. proliferatum from tiller onion was confirmed by inoculating healthy tiller onion roots and bulb disc with a spore suspension (1 × 106 spores/ml) produced on PDA. For each treatment, five plants were injected with 5 ml of spore suspension. Control plants (n=5) were injected with sterilized water. All plants were enclosed in plastic bags for 48 h in a greenhouse at 28℃ and 12 h/d light cycle. After 10 days, inoculated plants showed similar symptoms to those on the original diseased plants, while control plants remained symptomless. F. proliferatum was successfully re-isolated from symptomatic plants to fulfill Koch's postulates. Diseases caused by F. proliferatum are only reported in A. cepa. To our knowledge, this is the first report of F. proliferatum in Allium cepa L. var. agrogatum Don in China. Our findings are important for informed surveillance of the disease in China as F. proliferatum infection can not only reduce the quality and yield of tiller onion but also can contaminate the bulbs with harmful mycotoxins.

RESUMEN

Quercetin (1) was converted into quercetin 7-O-succinyl glucoside (2) by used Bacillus amyloliquefaciens FJ18 as a solvent-resistant whole-cell biocatalyst. The structure of the new compound was confirmed by LC-MS analysis and NMR spectroscopy. The water-solubility of this novel quercetin 7-O-succinyl glucoside (2) was approximately 1000 times higher than that of native quercetin (2). Quercetin (1) and quercetin 7-O-succinyl glucoside (2) exhibited significant DPPH scavenging capacity with IC50 values of 23.55 and 36.05 µM, respectively. Both compounds showed moderate cytotoxic effects against the two human cancer cell lines (MCF-7 and HepG2) with IC50 values ranging from 39.45-63.38 µM.

RESUMEN

Herein, we have developed a rhodium-catalyzed C-H functionalization and subsequent intramolecular ring-opening/cyclization of vinylene carbonate with 2-pyrrolyl/indolylanilines, which leads to oxazolidinones in moderate to good yields. In this transformation, vinylene carbonate only eliminates one oxygen atom rather than -CO3 or CO2. Furthermore, some control experiments are conducted to elucidate the reaction mechanism.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown that nutrition and systemic inflammation plays an essential role in the development of soft tissue sarcoma. However, few studies have explored the association of clinicopathologic features and local recurrence with nutritional and inflammatory markers in retroperitoneal liposarcoma (RPLS). This study sought to evaluate the prognostic value of the preoperative nutritional and inflammatory markers for local recurrence-free survival (LRFS) among surgical RPLS patients. METHODS: The study included 111 RPLS patients who underwent surgery between May 2010 and June 2019 at the Peking University Cancer Hospital Sarcoma Center. Time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (time-ROC) curve analysis was conducted to evaluate the ability of markers to predict LRFS. The associations of the CONUT-FAR score with clinicopathological variables and LRFS were evaluated. RESULTS: In the time-ROC curve analysis, the CONUT-FAR score was superior to other nutritional and inflammatory markers in predicting LRFS. The CONUT-FAR score was the only nutritional and inflammatory marker that independently predicted LRFS in the multivariate analysis, and patients with a high CONUT-FAR score (> 11) showed significantly decreased LRFS. Although the CONUT-FAR score failed to discriminate patients with low grade (G1) (p = 0.327) or undergoing incomplete (R2) resection (p = 0.072), it stratified patients with high grade (G2 and G3) or undergoing complete resection (R0/R1) into subgroups with significantly distinct LRFS (p < 0.001). The CONUT-FAR score also showed good clinical utility among patients with different clinical characteristics. CONCLUSION: The preoperative CONUT-FAR score reflects both nutritional and inflammatory factors and is an effective predictor of LRFS for surgical RPLS patients.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The complications caused by diabetes mellitus (DM) are the focus of clinical treatment. However, little is known about diabetic enteropathy (DE) and its potential underlying mechanism. METHODS: Intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) and intestinal epithelial stem cells (IESCs) were harvested from BKS.Cg-Dock7m+/+Leprdb/JNju (DM) mice, and the expression of R-Spondin 3 (Rspo3) was detected by RT-qPCR, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence. The role of Rspo3 in the abnormal differentiation of IECs during DM was confirmed by knockdown experiments. Through miRNA expression profiling, bioinformatics analysis, and RT-qPCR, we further analyzed the differentiation-related miRNAs in the IECs from mice with DM. RESULTS: Abnormal differentiation of IECs was observed in the mice with DM. The expression of Rspo3 was upregulated in the IECs from the mice with DM. This phenomenon was associated with Rspo3 overexpression. Additionally, Rspo3 is a major determinant of Lgr5+ stem cell identity in the diabetic state. Microarray analysis, bioinformatics analysis, and luciferase reporter assays revealed that microRNA (miR)-380-5p directly targeted Rspo3. Moreover, miR-380-5p upregulation was observed to attenuate the abnormal differentiation of IECs by regulating Rspo3 expression. CONCLUSIONS: Together, our results provide definitive evidence of the essential role of Rspo3 in the differentiation of IECs in DM.

RESUMEN

Chemotherapy resistance after curative surgery is a major contributor to the mortality of colorectal cancer (CRC). Detailed mechanism studies of specific molecular alterations are critical to improving the available therapies for long-term disease administration. We explored the functional role of LINC01347 in chemotherapy resistance of CRC. Elevated LINC01347 expression was correlated with CRC disease progression during chemotherapy treatment. However, the functional role of LINC01347 and mechanism remained undefined. In this study, we demonstrated that elevated LINC01347 expression was correlated with late clinical stage and poor prognosis in CRC tumor tissues with TCGA data. Exogenous LINC01347 expression promoted cell proliferation and 5-FU resistance of CRC cells, while LINC01347 knockdown attenuated cell growth and 5-FU resistance in vitro and in vivo. Molecular analysis indicated that LINC01347 participated in the transcriptional regulation of LOXL2 by sponging miR-328-5p. LOXL2 knockdown impaired the LINC01347 overexpression induced 5-FU resistance in CRC cells. The clinical analysis supported miR-328-5p/LOXL2 as a candidate biomarker for chemotherapy resistance of CRC patients. Our study provided a molecular basis for the development of 5-FU based chemotherapy resistance in CRC by LINC01347/miR-328/LOXL2 axis. We identified LINC01347 as a prognostic biomarker and potential therapeutic target against 5-FU based chemotherapy resistance of CRC.

RESUMEN

Triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 (TREM-1) was found to be induced in the context of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) before. This study further investigates its role in the development of SAH-induced early brain injury (EBI). Firstly, rats were randomly divided into Sham and SAH groups for analysis of temporal patterns and cellular localization of TREM-1. Secondly, TREM-1 intervention was administrated to produce Sham, vehicle, antagonist and agonist groups, for analyzing TREM-1, Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88) and NF-κB expressions at 24 h post-modeling, and EBI assessment at 24 h and 72 h. Thirdly, TLR4 inhibitor (TAK-242) was exploited to produce Sham, Sham+TAK-242, SAH, and SAH + TAK-242 groups to analyze the effects of TLR4 inhibition on TREM-1 induction and EBI evaluation at 72 h. Fourthly, the relationship of soluble TREM-1 (sTREM-1) levels in cerebrospinal fluid of SAH patients with Hunt-Hess grades were explored. The results showed that TREM-1 increased in the brain after experimental SAH (eSAH) early at 6 h and peaked at 48 h, which was found to be located in microglia and endothelial cells. TREM-1 inhibition attenuated EBI associated with TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB suppression, while enhancement had the opposite effects. Contrarily, TLR4 inhibition prevented TREM-1 induction and ameliorated EBI. In addition, sTREM-1 levels in SAH patients positively correlated with Hunt-Hess grades. Overall, the present study provides new evidence that TREM-1 increases dynamically in the brain after eSAH and it is located in microglia and endothelial cells, which may aggravate EBI by interacting with TLR4 pathway. And sTREM-1 in patients might act as a monitoring biomarker of EBI, providing new insights for future studies.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The medical consortium is an intensive and disease-specific association that integrates tertiary public hospitals and medical examination centers in China. We aimed to evaluate the feasibility of the medical consortium for screening upper gastrointestinal (GI) cancers (MCSC) by magnetically controlled capsule gastroscopy (MCCG). METHODS: 6627 asymptomatic subjects underwent MCCG as part of health check-ups in the MCSC between March and November 2018. Relevant clinical data were collected and analyzed. RESULTS: The MCSC detected 32 patients with upper GI cancer (0.48 %) confirmed by pathology. The detection rate of early gastric cancer was 16.67 % (4 /24). Gastric polyps, ulcers, and submucosal tumors were found in 15.54 %, 3.76 %, and 3.17 % of subjects, respectively. The whole GI preparation and operation process were well tolerated. CONCLUSIONS: The MCSC was a feasible model for upper GI cancer screening, especially for asymptomatic subjects. Further prospective studies with better operational quality control are warranted.

RESUMEN

Long intergenic noncoding RNAs (lincRNAs) play a vital role in the occurrence and progression of cancer. The mechanism of lincRNAs in colorectal cancer (CRC) has not been fully elucidated. In this context, an integrated comparative long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) microarray technology was used to determine the expression profile of lncRNAs in CRC. The roles of LINC00908 are unclear. We found that LINC00908 was significantly upregulated in CRC. Inhibition of LINC00908 resulted in reduced cell proliferation and G1 cell cycle arrest, which was mediated by cyclin D1, cyclin-dependent kinase 4, and phosphorylated retinoblastoma. Moreover, inhibition of LINC00908-induced apoptosis through the intrinsic apoptosis signaling pathway, as shown by the activation of caspase-9 and caspase-3. Mechanistically, miR-143-3p directly bound to LINC00908. miR-143-3p expression was negatively correlated with LINC00908 expression in CRC tissue. Functional experiments revealed opposing roles for miR-143-3p and LINC00908, suggesting that LINC00908 negatively regulates miR-143-3p. Mechanistically, miR-143-3p directly targets LINC00908. The KLF5 inhibitor ML264 affected proliferation and apoptosis, indicating that LINC00908 may act as a competing endogenous RNA to facilitate the expression of the miR-143-3p target gene KLF5. Thus, LINC00908 has an important proliferative and antiapoptotic role in CRC by regulating the cell cycle and intrinsic apoptosis. LINC00908 could be a potential biomarker and a new therapeutic target for CRC.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has considerably psychologically impacted Chinese college students. Several types of online mental health services were widely implemented for college students during the outbreak. This study investigated the relationship between college students' mental health status and psychological help-seeking behavior to test the phases-decision-making model (PDM). METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among college students in Guangdong Province using an online platform. In total, 4,164 students were assigned to the "counseling group" or "non-counseling group" according to whether they had sought psychological help because of the COVID-19 outbreak; the groups were matched based on age, sex, and grade. Demographics, perceived mental health, and experience with seeking psychological help were recorded. Fear, depression, and trauma were assessed by the COVID-19 Fear Screening Scale, Patient Health Questionnaire, and Impact of Event Scale-6. RESULTS: The fear, depression, and trauma scores were significantly higher in the counseling group than in the non-counseling group (P s < 0.001). Fear (OR = 1.27, p < 0.001), depression (OR = 1.02, p = 0.032), trauma (OR = 1.08, p < 0.001), poor perceived mental health status (OR = 3.61, p = 0.001), and experience with seeking psychological help (OR = 7.06, p < 0.001) increased the odds of seeking psychological help. CONCLUSION: During the COVID-19 epidemic, the rate of psychological help-seeking was still low, and college students in poor psychological condition sought psychological counseling more. Fear, depression, trauma, experience with seeking psychological help, and perceived mental health can effectively predict psychological help-seeking behavior. These findings emphasized the importance of closely monitoring college students' psychological status, providing psychological intervention, and improving the probability of seeking psychological help.
