RESUMEN

Objective: To explore the value of catheter-based adrenal ablation in treating Cushing's syndrome (CS)-associated hypertension. Methods: A clinical study was conducted in patients with CS, who received catheter-based adrenal ablation between March 2018 and July 2023 in Daping Hospital. Parameters monitored were blood pressure (outpatient and 24-hour ambulatory), body weight, clinical characteristics, serum cortisol and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) at 8 am, 24-hour urinary free cortisol (24 h UFC), fasting blood glucose and postoperative complications. Procedure effectiveness was defined as blood pressure returning to normal levels (systolic blood pressure<140 mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa) and diastolic blood pressure<90 mmHg), cortisol and 24 h UFC returning to normal and improvement of clinical characteristics. The parameters were monitored during follow up in the outpatient department at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after catheter-based adrenal ablation. Results: A total of 12 patients (aged (40.0±13.2) years) were reviewed. There were 5 males, with 5 cases of adenoma and 7 with hyperplasia from imaging studies. Catheter-based adrenal ablation was successful in all without interruption or surgical conversion. No postoperative complication including bleeding, puncture site infection, adrenal artery rupture or adrenal bleeding was observed. The mean follow up was 28 months. Compared to baseline values, body weight declined to (59.48±11.65) kg from (64.81±10.75) kg (P=0.008), fasting blood glucose declined to (4.54±0.83) mmol from (5.53±0.99) mmol (P=0.044), outpatient systolic blood pressure declined to (128±21) mmHg from (140±19) mmHg (P=0.005), diastolic blood pressure declined to (78±10) mmHg from (86±11) mmHg (P=0.041), and the mean ambulatory daytime diastolic blood pressure declined to (79±12) mmHg from (89±8) mmHg (P=0.034). Catheter-based adrenal ablation in 8 patients was defined as effective with their 24 h UFC significantly reduced after the procedure (1 338.41±448.06) mmol/L from (633.66±315.94) mmol/L, P=0.011). The change of 24 h UFC between the effective treatment group and ineffective group was statistically significant (P=0.020). The postoperative systolic blood pressure in the treated adenoma group was significantly lower than those of hyperplasia group (112±13) mmHg vs. (139±20) mmHg, P=0.026). Conclusions: For patients with CS-associated hypertension who are unwilling or unable to undergo surgical treatment, catheter-based adrenal ablation could improve the blood pressure and cortisol level. Catheter-based adrenal ablation could be a safe, effective, and minimally invasive therapy. However, our results still need to be validated in further large-scale studies.

RESUMEN

It is of great significance to analyze the configuration of programs funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China using funding data in the field of preventive medicine from 2007 to 2021. The analysis mainly focused on the funding status of the program, funding amount, funded institutions and personnel. A total of 5 349 programs in the discipline of preventive medicine were funded over the last 15 years. The funding amount in this discipline accounted for a relatively low proportion in the total funding amount of the Department of Medical Sciences and this proportion also showed a decreasing trend. Non-infectious disease epidemiology, human nutrition, and health toxicology were the top three subdisciplines of all funded programs in preventive medicine. The proportion of programs led by young scholars was gradually rising over the years, and young scholars were playing an increasingly influential role in scientific research. The funding status among each subdiscipline and institution also varied. The results of this study reflected the thriving of preventive medicine. Meanwhile, some problems and dilemmas were also revealed in its current development. Hopefully, this study could provide valuable information for institutions and preventive medicine researchers to apply for National Natural Science Foundation, and promote the long-term development of preventive medicine in the future.

RESUMEN

In this work, we correlate the microstructure and passivation of the Al95-x Ni x Y5 lightweight glassy ribbons (x = 7 and 10) using various techniques. The overdosed Ni (x = 10) can increase the melt viscosity and then deteriorate its glass-forming ability (GFA), ribbon formability, and Y-depleted extra layer formation. Consequently, the overdosed Ni weakens the passivation stability and corrosion resistance of the as-spun ribbon. The key role of the overdosed Ni can form a strong network and crystalline grain boundary in the amorphous matrix, which can transport Y and O to participate in the oxidation. These results can help us explore a valuable method for designing new Al-based metallic glasses.

RESUMEN

The corrosion resistance of the free surface (FS) and roller surface (RS) of Fe70Si8B12Nb10 amorphous ribbon was systematically compared in simulated seawater (0.6 M NaCl). The electrochemical method and scanning electron microscopy showed that the FS corrosion resistance was higher than that of the RS. XPS etching and Mott-Schottky tests indicated that the passivation films on the FS and RS were divided into outer and inner layers. In the spinning process, the elements with a higher atomic mass tend to segregate toward the FS, while the elements with a lower atomic mass segregate toward the RS. These results provide data that can be used to improve the quality of melt spinning ribbons and to optimize the manufacturing of involved electric devices.

RESUMEN

The scaling relations for the dispersion coefficients of long-range interactions between the Mu(1s)-Mu(1s, 2s, or 2p) systems and the H(1s)-H(1s, 2s, or 2p) systems are obtained using analytical properties of hydrogenic wavefunctions, which allows us to obtain the dispersion coefficients for Mu(1s)-Mu(1s, 2s, or 2p) systems from the corresponding H(1s)-H(1s, 2s, or 2p) systems. Additionally, the dispersion coefficients of long-range interactions of Mu(1s) with the ground-state H, noble gas atoms He, Ne, Ar, Kr, and Xe, alkali-metal atoms Li, Na, K, and Rb, alkaline-earth atoms Be, Mg, Ca, and Sr, and Cu, Ag, F, and Cl atoms are calculated.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To explore the role of HOTAIR in the pathogenesis of adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) and its underlying mechanism. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Differentially expressed lncRNA (HOTAIR) in ACC was screened out from the GEO database. The survival analysis and ROC curve were performed according to HOTAIR expressions in ACC patients. The correlation between HOTAIR expression and clinical information of ACC patients was analyzed by chi-square test. The univariate and multivariate COX regression analysis was carried out to analyze the relationship between HOTAIR expression, disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) of ACC patients. We then detected HOTAIR expression in 77 ACC tissues and 30 normal tissues by qRT-PCR (quantitative Real-time polymerase chain reaction). ACC cell lines were further screened out for the following in vitro experiments. After altering HOTAIR expression in ACC cells by plasmid transfection, proliferation and cell cycle were detected by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) and colony formation assay, respectively. Finally, Western blot was utilized to detect expressions of cell cycle-related genes in ACC cells. RESULTS: HOTAIR was overexpressed in ACC tissues than that of normal tissues. HOTAIR expression was remarkably increased in ACC with T3 and T4 stage than that of T1 and T2 stage. Moreover, HOTAIR expression was remarkably increased in ACC with stage III and IV than that of stage I and II. HOTAIR was an independent prognostic factor for DFS and OS of ACC patients. For in vitro experiments, inhibited proliferation and arrested cell cycle were observed in H295R cells transfected with si-HOTAIR. Opposite results were obtained after SW-13 cells were transfected with HOTAIR overexpression plasmid. Furthermore, expressions of cell cycle-related genes, including Cyclin D1, p-Rb and p-GSK3ß were remarkably decreased after HOTAIR knockdown. CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrated for the first time that HOTAIR is overexpressed in ACC and is a prognostic risk factor in ACC patients. HOTAIR participates in the development and progression of ACC via shortening cell cycle and promoting proliferation of ACC cells.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the value of simultaneous bispectral index (BIS) and intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring to evaluate postoperative consciousness and short-term prognosis in patients with severe traumatic brain injury. METHODS: We evaluated 30 brain trauma coma patients in the People's Hospital of Northern Jiangsu Province from January 2014 to December 2014 and evaluated Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) scores at 8-h intervals for 3days after surgery. BIS and ICP values were recorded at the same time. Based on the GCS score, patients were divided into two groups: group A (GCS score 3-≤5) and group B (>5-≤8). Natural survival rates were analyzed statistically and compared between groups. RESULTS: Chi-square testing revealed a significant difference in survival rates between the groups (P<0.05). Spearman's rank correlation analysis revealed that BIS value was positively correlated with coma degree post-operatively in patients with severe traumatic brain injury, and negatively correlated with ICP values (r=0.532, P<0.05; r=0.521, P<0.05, respectively). CONCLUSION: In patients with severe craniocerebral injury, higher severity, higher ICP, and lower BIS were associated with a worse prognosis. Combined monitoring of BIS and ICP is very useful when evaluating the coma degree and prognosis of patients with severe craniocerebral injury post-operatively.

RESUMEN

A novel method of degrading imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) in wastewater using plasma electrolysis (PE) was proposed. The advantage of the PE method was that the ILs acted as both pollutant and electrolyte in the system. Results indicated that ILs with initial concentrations of 1.0-4.0g/100mL readily decomposed under an applied voltage of 600V within 120min. The anion and alkyl chain lengths of the ILs, discharge time, and post-treatment time were also found to be significant, and the degradation could be described by pseudo-first-order kinetics. Moreover, the energy efficiency of PE for degradation was calculated. The energy yield was generally higher than 2.0g/kWh, which is approximately 100 times that of the degradation of methyl orange. The oxygen atom, hydroxyl radicals, and hydrogen peroxide produced by PE were important in the oxidation and cleavage of the ILs, and the degradation pathway of the imidazolium-based ILs was investigated using IC, FT-IR, NMR, and GC-MS techniques.

RESUMEN

Adsorbent made from sewage sludge is used to remove the Cr (VI) in wastewater. In this paper, the adsorption capacity, adsorption mechanism and regeneration of the adsorbent are studied. A systematic research is carried out to investigate the influence of adsorption capacities in various conditions, such as contact time, pH and initial dosage of adsorbent. The results show that: the equilibrium time is 6 h; the optimal pH is 2.5. The adsorption capacity increases as the initial concentration increase and as the dosage of activated carbon decrease. The data of adsorption capacity are more fit in Langmuir isotherms. The adsorption follows a pseudo-second-order kinetic model perfectly. From this research, the adsorption rate controlling step is film diffusion when the Cr (VI) concentration is low; otherwise, the adsorption rate controlling step is the diffusion among particles. The results of regeneration of saturated adsorbent show that the saturated adsorbent can be perfectly regenerated using alkali treatment. The regeneration ratio of the saturated adsorbent can reach more than 90% with proper concentration of alkali.

RESUMEN

An investigation was conducted to study the feasibility of ferric coagulant recovery from chemical sludge and its recycle in chemically enhanced primary treatment (CEPT) to make the process more cost-effective, as well as reduce sludge volume. The optimum conditions and efficiency of the acidification for ferric coagulant recovery from coagulation sludge were investigated. Experimental results showed that the recovered coagulants can be used in CEPT and the pollutants removal efficiency is similar to that of fresh coagulant, and for some aspects the effect of recovered coagulants is better than that of fresh ones, such as turbidity removal. Although some substances will be enriched during recycle, they have little effect on treated wastewater quality. Acidification condition also had significant influence on reduction of sludge volume. The efficiency of coagulant recovery had a linear relationship with sludge reduction. Experiments verify that it would be a sustainable and cost-effective way to recover ferric coagulant from coagulation sludge in water treatment and chemical wastewater treatment, and then recycle it to CEPT, as well as reduce sludge volume.

RESUMEN

Nuclear charge radii of ;{7,9,10,11}Be have been determined by high-precision laser spectroscopy. On-line measurements were performed with collinear laser spectroscopy in the 2s_{1/2}-->2p_{1/2} transition on a beam of Be+ ions. Collinear and anticollinear laser beams were used simultaneously, and the absolute frequency determination using a frequency comb yielded an accuracy in the isotope-shift measurements of about 1 MHz. Combining this with accurate calculations of the mass-dependent isotope shifts yields nuclear charge radii. The charge radius decreases from 7Be to 10Be and then increases for the halo nucleus 11Be. When comparing our results with predictions of ab initio nuclear-structure calculations we find good agreement. Additionally, the nuclear magnetic moment of 7Be was determined to be -1.3995(5)micro_{N} and that of 11Be was confirmed with an accuracy similar to previous beta-NMR measurements.

RESUMEN

An investigation was made to study the feasibility of recovering the Alum from coagulation sludges and reusing it in chemically enhanced primary treatment (CEPT) process to make the CEPT more cost-effective and recover the resource (Alum) efficiently. The optimum condition and efficiency of the acidification method for Alum recovery from coagulation sludge were investigated in the test. The results show that when the recovery rate of Alum reaches its highest level, 84.5%, the reduction rate of sludge is 35.5%. It turns out that the capability of recovered coagulant to remove turbidity, UV(254) and COD are 96%, 46% and 53%, respectively. The results prove that the recovered coagulants could be used in CEPT and the efficiency of recovered coagulant to remove pollutants is similar to that of fresh coagulant. Although some substances will be enriched during recycle, they have little effect on the quality of treated wastewater. The experiments verify that it would be an advisable and cost-effective way to recover Alum from coagulation sludges in water treatment and chemical wastewater treatment, and it could be then recycled to CEPT as well as reduce sludge volume.

RESUMEN

High-precision results are presented for calculations of the nonrelativistic energies, relativistic corrections, and quantum electrodynamic corrections for the 2 2S, 2 2P, and 3 2S states of Li and Be+, using nonrelativistic wave functions expressed in Hylleraas coordinates. Bethe logarithms are obtained for the states of Be+. Finite mass corrections are calculated with sufficient accuracy to extract the nuclear charge radius from measurements of the isotope shift for the 2 2S-2 2P and 2 2S-3 2S transitions. The calculated ionization potential for Be+ is 146 882.923+/-0.005 cm{-1}.

RESUMEN

The nuclear charge radius of 11Li has been determined for the first time by high-precision laser spectroscopy. On-line measurements at TRIUMF-ISAC yielded a 7Li-11Li isotope shift (IS) of 25 101.23(13) MHz for the Doppler-free [FORMULA: SEE TEXT]transition. IS accuracy for all other bound Li isotopes was also improved. Differences from calculated mass-based IS yield values for change in charge radius along the isotope chain. The charge radius decreases monotonically from 6Li to 9Li, and then increases from 2.217(35) to 2.467(37) fm for 11Li. This is compared to various models, and it is found that a combination of halo neutron correlation and intrinsic core excitation best reproduces the experimental results.

RESUMEN

The 2s-->3s transition of (6,7,8,9)Li was studied by high-resolution laser spectroscopy using two-photon Doppler-free excitation and resonance-ionization detection. Hyperfine structure splittings and isotope shifts were determined with precision at the 100 kHz level. Combined with recent theoretical work, the changes in the nuclear-charge radii of (8,9)Li were determined. These are now the lightest short-lived isotopes for which the charge radii have been measured. It is found that the charge radii monotonically decrease with increasing neutron number from 6Li to 9Li.

RESUMEN

The first fully correlated calculations of the magnetic moment in lithium are presented. Relative to the free-electron value, the Zeeman gJ factor for the ground state lithium gJ/g(e)-1 is calculated to a computational accuracy of 200 parts in 10(9), including relativistic and radiative corrections of orders alpha2, alpha2m/M, and alpha3. The isotope shifts in gJ are predicted precisely for various isotopes. The extensions to the first excited S state of lithium and the ground state of Be+ are made.
