RESUMEN

China is the most important steel producer in the world, and its steel industry is one of the most carbon-intensive industries in China. Consequently, research on carbon emissions from the steel industry is crucial for China to achieve carbon neutrality and meet its sustainable global development goals. We constructed a carbon dioxide (CO2) emission model for China's iron and steel industry from a life cycle perspective, conducted an empirical analysis based on data from 2019, and calculated the CO2 emissions of the industry throughout its life cycle. Key emission reduction factors were identified using sensitivity analysis. The results demonstrated that the CO2 emission intensity of the steel industry was 2.33 ton CO2/ton, and the production and manufacturing stages were the main sources of CO2 emissions, accounting for 89.84% of the total steel life-cycle emissions. Notably, fossil fuel combustion had the highest sensitivity to steel CO2 emissions, with a sensitivity coefficient of 0.68, reducing the amount of fossil fuel combustion by 20% and carbon emissions by 13.60%. The sensitivities of power structure optimization and scrap consumption were similar, while that of the transportation structure adjustment was the lowest, with a sensitivity coefficient of less than 0.1. Given the current strategic goals of peak carbon and carbon neutrality, it is in the best interest of the Chinese government to actively promote energy-saving and low-carbon technologies, increase the ratio of scrap steel to steelmaking, and build a new power system.

With the continuous control of anthropogenic emissions, China's air quality has improved significantly in recent years. Given this background, research on how the short-term exposure risks caused by air pollution in China have changed is insufficient. This study utilized hourly concentration data from ground observation stations and the official air quality guidelines of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China and the World Health Organization as standards to systematically investigate the spatiotemporal characteristics and short-term exposure risks of air pollution in China from 2015 to 2022. The results indicate that various atmospheric pollutants except for ozone showed a decreasing trend yearly. Nationwide, both single pollutant air pollution days (SAPDs) and multiple pollutant air pollution days (MAPDs) showed varying degrees of reduction within 15 and 25 days, respectively. SAPD was dominated mainly by excessive PM2.5 and PM10 pollutants, while MAPD was dominated mainly by excessive pollutant combinations, including PM2.5 + PM10, CO + PM2.5 + PM10, and SO2 + PM2.5 + PM10. As the concentration of atmospheric pollutants decreased, the total excess risk (ER) decreased yearly from 2015 to 2022, but there were significant regional differences. Now, the ER is less than 0.25% in southern China, in the range of 0.25%-0.5% in the North China Plain and some cities in the northeast, and higher than 1% in the northwest. Particulate matter is currently the primary pollutant posing short-term exposure risk in China, especially due to the impact of sandstorm weather. This study indicates that China's atmospheric cleaning action is significantly beneficial for reducing health risks.

Introduction: Understanding the relationship between parenting style and the non-cognitive development of high school students is crucial, particularly in rural China. Non-cognitive abilities, including traits such as emotional regulation, resilience, and interpersonal skills, play a significant role in students' overall development and future success. This study aims to investigate how different parenting styles impact non-cognitive abilities among high school students in rural China. Methods: This study surveyed 6,549 high school students and their primary caregivers in rural China. The students had an average age of 17.61 years, with 48% being male, and 62% of Han ethnicity. Primary caregivers self-reported their parenting styles, while the students' non-cognitive abilities were assessed using the Big Five Inventory-Short (BFI-S). The relationship between parenting style and non-cognitive development was analyzed using two distinct methods: two dimensions (authoritative and authoritarian) and four categories of parenting styles. Results: The study revealed that an authoritative parenting style had a positive impact on the non-cognitive abilities of students. Conversely, a negative association was observed between the authoritarian parenting style and the students' non-cognitive development. This association was more pronounced in the non-cognitive developmental scores of girls compared to boys. Additionally, parents from wealthier families or those with higher levels of education were more likely to adopt an authoritative parenting style rather than an authoritarian one. Discussion: The results of this study highlight the significant influence of parenting styles on the non-cognitive development of high school students in rural China. Authoritative parenting, characterized by warmth and structure, appears to foster better non-cognitive outcomes, while authoritarian parenting, marked by strictness and less warmth, is associated with poorer non-cognitive development. The gender differences observed suggest that girls may be more sensitive to variations in parenting style. Furthermore, the socioeconomic and educational background of parents plays a crucial role in determining the parenting style adopted. These findings underscore the importance of developing and implementing parenting training interventions in rural China, aimed at promoting authoritative parenting practices to enhance the non-cognitive development of students.

Domestic violence (DV) is a significant concern within China. Currently, there are few standardized measurement tools to gauge Chinese stakeholders' perceptions and beliefs concerning DV. This research sought to validate tools to be used with such stakeholders. Factor analyses were utilized on cross-sectional, survey data from a purposive sample of 683 Chinese DV professionals working in four institutions in Guangdong. Analyses developed three scales for measuring DV Definitions, DV Attitudes, and DV Policing. The development of these scales is beneficial to advance the already growing research related to DV in China in ways that are relevant to the Chinese context.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the pattern, appropriateness, and cost of antidiabetic drugs prescribed for patients with Type 2 diabetes at primary healthcare facilities (PHFs) in China. METHODS: We collected outpatient-visit prescriptions from 363 PHFs in 31 cities covering eastern, central, and western regions of China. The visits of adult patients with Type 2 diabetes diagnosis were collected and classified the antidiabetic medication pattern of each patient use as recommended or non-recommended according to Chinese guidelines. We then calculated the proportion of guideline-recommended patterns and the average monthly cost for each pattern, overall and by region. RESULTS: Of 33 519 prescriptions for Type 2 diabetes, most (73.9%) were for guideline-recommended antidiabetic treatments. The proportion of guideline-recommended prescriptions varied by region (eastern [75.9%], central [87.5%], and western [59.7%]). Metformin monotherapy was the most common guideline-recommended treatment in all three regions (eastern [20.1%], central [28.0%], and western [24.6%]). The most common non-guideline-recommended treatments were monotherapy of insulin (eastern [16.5%], central [5.1%], and western [25.7%]) and traditional Chinese antidiabetic medicines (eastern [5.6%], central [5.7%], and western [11.1%]). The average monthly costs were lower for guideline-recommended treatments compared to non-recommended treatments in all regions (eastern [13.6 ± 15.4 USD vs. 28.1 ± 22.0 USD], central [9.8 ± 10.9 USD vs. 28.7 ± 19.4 USD], and western [17.9 ± 21.4 USD vs. 30.3 ± 23.6 USD]). CONCLUSIONS: The majority of patients with Type 2 diabetes received guideline-recommended antidiabetic medications at PHFs in China, with only half of the prescriptions containing guideline-recommended metformin. Utilization of guideline-recommended therapies differed across regions. Tailored interventions to promote evidence-based antidiabetic prescribing are urgently needed, especially in the undeveloped western region.

An important concern is the availability of clean drinking water, which is an essential need for human survival. This issue arises due to the existence of hazardous micropollutants originating from various emission sources. Nanotechnology aids in the mitigation of micropollutants by assimilating and counteracting their effects, hence diminishing their influence on water and other ecosystems. The study investigates the relationship between nanotechnological progress, the adoption of renewable energy, environmental consequences, and economic growth in China, using the Environmental Kuznets Curve theory as a conceptual framework. The study employs panel cointegration tests to analyze structural breaks from 2000 to 2020. Nanotechnology is expected to reduce environmental degradation and the presence of micro-pollutants by increasing the use of renewable energy and promoting energy conservation. Nanotechnology is crucial for mitigating micro-pollutants and advancing sustainable development in this specific context. However, the literature also highlights the harmful consequences of nanoparticle emissions caused by nanotechnology on human and environmental health for a long duration, requiring more examination. This research is the first empirical inquiry into the relationship between improvements in nanotechnology, the use of renewable energy, economic growth, and ecological effect, all within the context of the Environmental Kuznets Curve theory. The results confirm the successful incorporation of all components with a focus on long-term outcomes. The findings suggest that the EKC hypothesis is relevant in China. In China, advancements in nanotechnology have a moderating effect on environmental degradation. The use of renewable energy sources in China enhances environmental circumstances. Given the offered empirical evidence, it is advisable for the government to have a leading role in the development of innovative nanotechnologies that have low emissions of nanoparticles. By using this approach, it will be possible to encourage the conservation of energy and the use of renewable sources in a more secure way, hence improving the effectiveness of sustainable development initiatives.

Objectives: The emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic may disrupt hospital management activities of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This study aimed to determine the changing AMR trend over the period in China when stringent COVID-19 response measures were implemented. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted in a designated hospital for COVID-19 patients in Guangzhou, China from April 2018 to September 2021. The prevalence of 13 antimicrobial-resistant bacteria was compared before and after the COVID-19 responses through Chi-square tests. Interrupted time series (ITS) models on the weekly prevalence of AMR were established to determine the changing trend. Controlled ITS models were performed to compare the differences between subgroups. Results: A total of 10,134 isolates over 1,265 days were collected. And antimicrobial-resistant strains presented in 38.6% of the testing isolates. The weekly AMR prevalence decreased by 0.29 percentage point (95% CI [0.05-0.80]) after antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) policy, despite an increase in the prevalence of penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae (from 0/43 to 15/43, p < 0.001), carbapenem-resistant Escherichia coli (from 20/1254 to 41/1184, p = 0.005), and carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (from 93/889 to 114/828, p = 0.042). And the changing trend did not vary by gender (male vs. female), age (<65 vs. ≥65 years), service setting (outpatient vs. inpatient), care unit (ICU vs. non-ICU), the primary site of infection (Lung vs. others), and Gram type of bacteria (positive vs. negative). Conclusion: The response to COVID-19 did not lead to an increase in overall AMR; however, it appears that management strategy on the prudent use of antimicrobials likely contributed to a sizable long-term drop. The frequency of several multidrug-resistant bacteria continues to increase after the COVID-19 epidemic. It is crucial to continue to monitor AMR when COVID-19 cases have surged in China after the relaxation of restriction measures.

Background: Studies have shown that work readiness is closely related to nurses' role adaptation, career development, and patient safety. However, we know little about the nursing students' work readiness and its influencing factors before participating in a nurse residency program, and whether factors have changed from before. Aim: (1) To investigate the work readiness of nursing students ready to engage in a nurse residency program; (2) to identify the factors affecting the nursing students' work readiness and the associations between emotional intelligence and work readiness; and (3) to discuss the changes of factors affecting nursing students' work readiness. Design: An online, multicenter cross-sectional study. Methods: 878 nursing students from eight tertiary hospitals in Chongqing, China were recruited. The online investigation used the General Information Questionnaire, the Nursing Students' Work Readiness Scale, and the Emotional Intelligence scale. The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS V23.0. Results: 768 valid questionnaires were included in this study. The nurses obtained a work readiness score of 277.08 ± 44.39 and an emotional intelligence score of 89.57 ± 13.89. Univariate analysis revealed that the following factors affected work readiness: age, sex, family support for becoming a nurse, voluntary choice of nursing major, previous experience as a student cadre, scholarship recipient status, willingness to engage in nursing work during the COVID-19 pandemic and confidence in clinical nursing practice. Frequent incidents of violence, poor salary for nurses for the nurse residency program, and low social acceptance were the top three reasons for decreased confidence in clinical nursing among nursing students. Furthermore, multiple linear regression analysis indicated that age, voluntary choice of nursing major, student leadership experience, confidence in clinical nursing work, self-emotion, and emotional application significantly influenced nurses' work readiness. Conclusion: Clinical instructors and administrators should dynamically assess nurses' work readiness, prioritize individuals aged ≤23, who have chosen the nursing profession involuntarily, lack prior experience as student cadres, and exhibit low confidence in clinical nursing work. This focus will enhance their emotional self-management skills and ability to apply emotions effectively, improving their work readiness and training efficacy.

BACKGROUNDS: To our knowledge, there is no available nationwide data on omicron symptom patterns in China mainland. We aim to determine the acute and long COVID-19 symptoms in the omicron-dominant period and to evaluate its association with risk factors. METHODS: We designed a cross-sectional nationwide study and data about self-reported symptoms were collected by an online platform named Wenjuanxing. Eligible participants were aged 25-65 years and were symptomatic. In this study, the ratios of the number of people of different ages and genders were weighted by the data from the Seventh National Census (2020 years), and validated by a published nationwide representative study through comparing smoking rates. Descriptive indicators were calculated for demographic characteristics, diagnosis ways, and duration time, acute symptoms, hospitalization, severity and long COVID-19 symptoms. And, the associations between risk factors and acute and long COVID-19 symptoms were analyzed by multivariable logistic regression models. RESULTS: A total of 32,528 individuals diagnosed as COVID-19 infection from October 1, 2022 to February 21, 2023 were included. The first three acute symptoms of COVID-19 infection were fever (69.90%), headache (62.63%), and sore throat (54.29%), respectively. The hospitalization rate within 7 days was 3.07% and symptoms disappearance rate within 21 days was 68.84%, respectively. Among 3983 COVID-19 patients with 3 months or more time difference between first infection and participation into the study, the long COVID-19 rate was 19.68% and the primary symptoms were muscle weakness (19.39%), headache (17.98%) and smell/taste disorder (15.18%). Age groups, smoking, marriage status and vaccination were risk factors for numbers of acute phase symptoms and long COVID-19 symptoms. Lastly, female and current smokers also showed more numbers of symptoms during acute infection period. CONCLUSIONS: In Chinese mainland, our respondent indicated that current smokers and women were associated with acute COVID-19 symptoms, which should be treated with caution due to the lack of representative.

BACKGROUND: Small songbirds respond and adapt to various geographical barriers during their annual migration. Global flyways reveal the diverse migration strategies in response to different geographical barriers, among which are high-elevation plateaus. However, few studies have been focused on the largest and highest plateau in the world, the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP) which poses a significant barrier to migratory passerines. The present study explored the annual migration routes and strategies of a population of Siberian Rubythroats (Calliope calliope) that breed on the north-eastern edge of the QTP. METHODS: Over the period from 2021 to 2023, we applied light-level geolocators (13 deployed, seven recollected), archival GPS tags (45 deployed, 17 recollected), and CAnMove multi-sensor loggers (with barometer, accelerometer, thermometer, and light sensor, 20 deployed, six recollected) to adult males from the breeding population of Siberian Rubythroat on the QTP. Here we describe the migratory routes and phenology extracted or inferred from the GPS and multi-sensor logger data, and used a combination of accelerometric and barometric data to describe the elevational migration pattern, flight altitude, and flight duration. All light-level geolocators failed to collect suitable data. RESULTS: Both GPS locations and positions derived from pressure-based inference revealed that during autumn, the migration route detoured from the bee-line between breeding and wintering grounds, leading to a gradual elevational decrease. The spring route was more direct, with more flights over mountainous areas in western China. This different migration route during spring probably reflects a strategy for faster migration, which corresponds with more frequent long nocturnal migration flights and shorter stopovers during spring migration than in autumn. The average flight altitude (1856 ± 781 m above sea level) was correlated with ground elevation but did not differ between the seasons. CONCLUSIONS: Our finding indicates strong, season-dependent impact of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau on shaping passerine migration strategies. We hereby call for more attention to the unexplored central-China flyway to extend our knowledge on the environment-migration interaction among small passerines.

Northwest China has undergone notable alterations in climate and vegetation growth in recent decades. Nevertheless, uncertainties persist concerning the response of different vegetation types to climate change and the underlying mechanisms. This study utilized the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and three sets of meteorological data to investigate the interannual variations in the association between vegetation and climate (specifically precipitation and temperature) from 1982 to 2015. Several conclusions were drawn. (1) RNDVI-GP (relationship between Growing Season NDVI and precipitation) decreased significantly across all vegetation, while RNDVI-GT (relationship between Growing Season NDVI and temperature) showed an insignificant increase. (2) Trends of RNDVI-GP and RNDVI-GT exhibited great variations across various types of vegetation, with forests displaying notable downward trends in both indices. The grassland exhibited a declining trend in RNDVI-GP but an insignificant increase in RNDVI-GT, while no significant temporal changes in RNDVI-GP or RNDVI-GT were observed in the barren land. (3) The fluctuations in RNDVI-GP and RNDVI-GT closely aligned with variations in drought conditions. Specifically, in regions characterized by VPD (vapor pressure deficit) trends less than 0.02 hpa/yr, which are predominantly grasslands, a rise in SWV (soil water volume) tended to cause a reduction in RNDVI-GP but an increase in RNDVI-GT. However, a more negative trend in SWV was associated with a more negative trend in both RNDVI-GP and RNDVI-GT when the VPD trend exceeded 0.02 hPa/yr, primarily in forests. Our results underscore the variability in the relationship between climate change and vegetation across different vegetation types, as well as the role of drought in modulating these associations.

BACKGROUND: Effective response and reducing the burden of family care for children with cancer is critical, and China currently lacks a specific assessment tool. AIMS: This study aimed to translate and validate the Caregiving Burden Scale for Family Caregivers of Children with Cancer (CBSFC-CC) and then test and implement the tool. METHODS: According to the Beaton cross-cultural debugging guide, preliminary Chinese version of CBSFC-CC scale was formed, which was suitable for Chinese language environment and clinical context. Exploratory factor analyses (EFA) and confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) were performed to verify structural validity. Convergent validity, discriminant validity and reliability were also conducted. RESULTS: A total of 529 family caregivers of children with cancer participated in the survey. EFA extracts and combines four factors and explained 65.80% of the total variation. CFA proved that all the goodness-of-fit indicators were acceptable. The Cronbach's alpha of the Chinese version of CBSFC-CC was .96, and the test-retest reliability coefficient was .95. Four dimensions and 29 items were identified in the final Chinese version of CBSFC-CC. CONCLUSION: The chinese version CBSFC-CC is scientifically reasonable and has good reliability and validity, which can be applied to the investigation of the nursing burden of family caregivers of children with cancer in China.

Introduction: SARS-CoV-2 infection is hypothesized to be more severe in immunocompromised patients; however, clinical outcomes in children with inborn errors of immunity (IEI) during the Omicron pandemic in China have not been reported. Methods: This cohort study retrospectively reviewed 71 SARS-CoV-2-infected children with IEI using nationwide data from the National Center for Children's Health of China. COVID-19 was diagnosed by a positive rapid antigen or nucleic acid test result. Results: Among 71 SARS-CoV-2-infected children with IEI, male preponderance (male: female ratio of ~1.8:1), a median age of 8 years (IQR 3-11), and a predominance of antibody deficiency (19/71, 26.8%) were detected. Most of the patients got infected through household transmission, while a small proportion of them did so during hospital visits. The mean time periods were 3.3 days (n=44) for incubation, 8.4 days for symptoms (n=69), and 8.8 days for viral shedding (n=37). The time to viral shedding was proportional to the symptomatic period (R2 = 0.1243, p=0.0323) and prolonged in children with X- linked agammaglobulinemia. The most common symptoms of COVID-19 were fever, and some children showed only aggravation of the underlying disease. 15% of IEI children progress to pneumonia, 85% require medication, 17% are admitted to hospital, and 4.1% are classified as critical. Previously application of anti- infective medications was associated with an increased risk of hospitalization after COVID-19 infection. Of the 71 children with IEI, all recovered from COVID- 19. Conclusion: Overall, Omicron variant did not cause significant life-threatening infections among children with IEI in China, and most of them had a good clinical outcome. Nevertheless, these children exhibit an increased vulnerability to higher hospitalization rates, pneumonia, and severe illness compared to the general pediatric population.

This study illuminates the complex relationship between cultural orientation towards collectivism, emotional regulation skills, cognitive reappraisal ability, sports engagement, perceived coach support, and sports self-efficacy in Chinese athletes' performance satisfaction. Seven hundred and fifty athletes from Guangdong, Jiangsu, and Sichuan completed 5-point Likert scale assessments. The study employed structural equation modeling (SEM) to analyze variable connections. The results reveal significant relationships between performance satisfaction and cultural orientation towards collectivism (ß = 0.35, p < 0.001), emotional regulation skills (ß = 0.28, p < 0.001), cognitive reappraisal ability (ß = 0.32, p < 0.01), sports engagement (ß = 0.20, p < 0.05), perceived coach support (ß = 0.25, p < 0.01), and self-efficacy in sports (ß = 0.30, p < 0.001). These findings underscore the importance of psychological factors in shaping athlete well-being and performance satisfaction. These relationships linked the self-determination theory, social support theory, and the transactional model of stress and coping. Treatments that improve athlete self-efficacy, emotional control, and coach-athlete relationships may improve player happiness, retention, and organizational performance. These actions affect management and the economy. A supportive environment and athlete development initiatives may boost athlete well-being and performance, leading to long-term sports success and competitiveness.

Purpose: Although transgender women (TGW) bear the highest HIV burden worldwide, routine surveillance of this group is rare. We aimed to evaluate the trends in health characteristics of Chinese TGW. Methods: Three cross-sectional studies using snowball sampling were conducted in 2014, 2017, and 2019, primarily in Shenyang, China. A questionnaire and voluntary HIV testing were used to obtain information on background characteristics, sexual behaviors, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) willingness, and HIV status. Results: There were 220 respondents in 2014, 198 in 2017, and 247 in 2019 (average age 31.1±7.6 to 33.5±9.6 years). HIV prevalence significantly decreased from 29.5% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 25.3-38.4%) in 2014 to 19.4% (95% CI: 14.7-24.9%) in 2019 (p<0.05). The proportion of participants reporting condomless anal intercourse (CAI) with any partner fluctuated from 30.8% (95% CI: 25.1-36.1%) to 53.0% (95% CI: 45.8-60.1%). The proportion of participants willing to use PrEP decreased from 86.4% (95% CI: 81.1-90.6%) in 2014 to 62.8% (95% CI: 56.4-68.8%) in 2019. Factors significantly associated with HIV infection were CAI with any partner (multivariate odds ratio [ORm]: 3.58, 95% CI: 1.55-8.29 in 2017; ORm: 3.18, 95% CI: 1.56-6.46 in 2019) and PrEP willingness (ORm: 0.26, 95% CI: 0.12-0.58 in 2017). Conclusion: HIV prevalence and associated risk factors remain substantial among Chinese TGW. There is an urgent need to strengthen HIV surveillance in this population, and develop trans-friendly and effective interventions to minimize HIV prevalence and transmission.

Rosa roxburghii Tratt is a rosaceous shrub originating from southwest China (Fu et al. 2020). From September to October 2022, R. roxburghii rot occurred in Guizhou Province, China, within a major R. roxburghii production area covering from 5 ha to 50 ha, with an incidence rate of 10 to 15%. Symptoms manifested as black and brown lesions on the fruit surface, which were concave, soft, foul-smelling, and surrounded by grayish-brown tissue. Three infected R. roxburghii shrubs were randomly collected from each household, placed in transparent plastic bags, and pathogen isolation was conducted in a laboratory. Infected R. roxburghii fruits were surface-sterilized with 0.5% NaOCl for 2 min, rinsed five times with sterile water, and dried. Symptomatic tissues from the margin between necrotic and healthy tissues were cut into 5 × 5 mm pieces, placed onto potato dextrose agar (PDA), and incubated at 28ºC in the dark for 5 days. Hyphal tips of fungi growing from the samples were transferred onto new PDA plates and incubated until they produced conidia. A total of five fungal isolates with similar morphological characteristics were obtained. The colony obtained by single-spore purification was light purple to dark purple with abundant aerial mycelium. Macroconidia were relatively slender with a curve and zero to three septate. Microconidia appeared obovoid to pyriform, with sizes of 5.2 to 17.2 × 2.1 to 3.3 µm (n = 50). The morphological characteristics were consistent with Fusarium annulatum (Yilmaz et al. 2021). Genomic DNA of two representative isolates (Zhaochanglin 1621 and 1622) was extracted using the DN14 cetyltrimethylammonium bromide rapid plant genome extraction kit (Aidlab Biotechnologies Co., Ltd, Beijing). The TEF1 and RPB2 gene were amplified by Polymerase Chain Reaction using primers EF1-983F/EF1-2218R (Rehner et al, 2005), bRPB2-6F/bRPB2-7.1R (Matheny et al, 2002), respectively. All sequences were deposited in GenBank (TEF1, PP236860, PP236861; RPB2, PP767864, PP767865). BLAST searches of the TEF1, and RPB2 sequences revealed the TEF1 sequences had 99.89% (937/938 bp) identity with F. annulatum isolate CBS 258.54; and the RPB2 sequences had 99.86% (737/738 bp) identity to isolate CBS 267.93. In the phylogenetic tree, the isolates (Zhaochanglin 1621 and 1622) clustered with the representative strains of F. annulatum. The morphology and multi-gene phylogenetic analysis indicated that is the isolates were F. annulatum. To complete Koch's postulates, five mature, healthy R. roxburghii fruits were surface disinfected with 1% NaClO solution for 1 min, rinsed with sterile water, and dried at 25℃ for 30 min. A conidial suspension (106 spores/ml) collected from two isolates (Zhaochanglin 1621 and 1622) was sprayed onto R. roxburghii fruits, and the control treatments were sprayed with sterile distilled water. All R. roxburghii fruits were incubated at 25 ºC with 80% relative humidity. The experiment had five replicates. After 7 days of incubation, all the inoculated fruits showed similar symptoms to those initially observed on the originally infected plants. The same pathogen was reisolated and identified by morphological character ization and molecular analysis, fulfilling Koch's postulates. Thus, the pathogen causing rot of R. roxburghii was determined to be F. annulatum (H. Zhang et al, 2024). To our knowledge, this is the first report of F. annulatum causing R. roxburghii rot disease in China. F.annulatum has a wide range of hosts and has been reported to infect a wide range of crops, fruits, and vegetables (Bacon and Nelson 1994). This study lays a foundation for further study and developing disease control methods and the improvement of the economic benefits of R. roxburghii.

This study aims to investigate the influence of agricultural insurance on the development of the agricultural industry. Employing the functional decomposition approach in systems engineering, we analyze the mechanisms by which agricultural insurance affects the development of rural industries. Additionally, we conduct an empirical analysis using panel data from Chinese provinces between 2011 and 2019, employing a two-way fixed effects model. The findings reveal a substantial and positive impact of agricultural insurance on the development of rural industries. Furthermore, we identify regional heterogeneity in the influence of agricultural insurance on rural industry development. Specifically, in major grain-producing provinces, the effect of agricultural insurance on rural industry development is not statistically significant. In contrast, non-grain-producing provinces experience a significantly positive impact on rural industry development from agricultural insurance. The outcomes of this study offer valuable insights for policymakers to promote rural industry development through the effective utilization of agricultural insurance.

BACKGROUND: The Diagnosis-Intervention Packet (DIP) payment system, initiated by China's National Healthcare Security Administration, is designed to enhance healthcare efficiency and manage rising healthcare costs. This study aims to evaluate the impact of the DIP payment reform on inpatient care in a specialized obstetrics and gynecology hospital, with a focus on its implications for various patient groups. METHODS: To assess the DIP policy's effects, we employed the Difference-in-Differences (DID) approach. This method was used to analyze changes in total hospital costs and Length of Stay (LOS) across different patient groups, particularly within select DIP categories. The study involved a comprehensive examination of the DIP policy's influence pre- and post-implementation. RESULTS: Our findings indicate that the implementation of the DIP policy led to a significant increase in both total costs and LOS for the insured group relative to the self-paying group. The study further identified variations within DIP groups both before and after the reform. In-depth analysis of specific disease groups revealed that the insured group experienced notably higher total costs and LOS compared to the self-paying group. CONCLUSIONS: The DIP reform has led to several challenges, including upcoding and diagnostic ambiguity, because of the pursuit of higher reimbursements. These findings underscore the necessity for continuous improvement of the DIP payment system to effectively tackle these challenges and optimize healthcare delivery and cost management.

The treatment process of tumors in surgical patients is typically prompt and efficient, whereas non-surgical patients are more prone to treatment delay due to various factors. However, the relationship between treatment delay and survival outcomes in non-surgical Esophageal cancer (EC) patients has received limited study. This study aims to evaluate the impact of waiting time from diagnose to treatment on survival outcomes among non-surgical EC patients in Shandong Province, China. Over a 20-year follow-up period, a total of 12,911 patients diagnosed with EC and not receiving surgical intervention were identified from 2000 to 2020. The Kaplan-Meier methodology was employed to determine overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS). Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to evaluate the impact of treatment delays on future outcomes. The nonlinear association between waiting time and survival outcomes was investigated using restricted cubic spline (RCS) functions. The average delay in initiating EC treatment from the initial medical consultation for symptoms of EC was 1.18 months (95%CI=1.16-1.20). Patients with a long delay (≥3 months) in treatment demonstrated significantly lower rates of 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS and CSS compared to those with a brief delay in treatment initiation. A long delay in EC treatment independently associated with an increased risk of mortality from all causes and cancer. The association between waiting time and both all-cause and cause-specific mortality illustrated a pronounced J-shaped pattern. The prolong delay in treatment initiation significantly impacts the OS and CSS outcomes for non-surgical EC patients. Timely administration of treatment has the potential to enhance survival outcomes in patients with EC who are ineligible for surgery, including those in advanced stages without surgical options available.

Adiposity, synonymous with obesity, is prevalent among both children and adults with type 1 diabetes in China. Recent literature underscored the patho-physiological and socioeconomic factors associated with adiposity, and consistently highlighted its impact on cardiovascular, kidney, and metabolic diseases among Chinese individuals with type 1 diabetes. Addressing and managing adiposity in individuals with type 1 diabetes are complicated and entail comprehensive approaches including lifestyle modifications, cognitive-behavioral therapy, insulin dose titration, and other diabetes treatment medications. The condition calls for coordination among policymakers, researchers, clinicians, and patients.
