Women live longer than men but spend more years in poor health. Menopausal symptoms are not generally associated with adverse health outcomes. However, increasingly, evidence suggests they can significantly impact future health and longevity. Understanding the long-term effects of menopausal symptoms will enable clinicians to identify risk factors and intervene with modifications to support healthy aging. This review examined the scope of research investigating the association between menopausal symptoms and future health outcomes. We searched for longitudinal cohort studies. Date and geographical restrictions were not applied. Articles were screened and data extracted using standardised methods. Included studies examined the role of menopausal symptoms on future health developments using a sample who had experienced menopause and were deemed healthy at baseline, with clear reporting of their menopausal status at symptom assessment. We identified 53 eligible studies with data from over 450,000 women enrolled in 28 longitudinal cohorts. Cardiovascular disease, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, and reduced bone mineral density were positively associated with menopausal symptoms. Breast cancer was associated with an asymptomatic menopause. Psychological menopausal symptoms and cognitive decline improved after menopause, except among women from low socioeconomic backgrounds. These findings demonstrate that menopausal symptoms are important indicators for future health risks. Future work should investigate the impact of underexplored menopausal symptoms on future health, such as sleeping problems and urogenital issues, and evaluate whether treating menopausal symptoms could lead to improvements in future health outcomes. Should future research continue to support these findings, clinical guidelines should be updated to support clinical decision-making in menopause care.

The ricefield eel (Monopterus albus) is inherently timid and highly sensitive to stress. Our previous studies have shown that low-temperature weather could significantly affect the sperm vitality of ricefield eels. This study aims to investigate the regulatory mechanism of low-temperature effects on testicular function and sperm vitality in ricefield eels. The ricefield eels were initially reared at low (10 °C) and normal (25 °C) temperatures for 24 h. Low temperatures were found to induce the expression of pituitary pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) and testes insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 1 (IGFBP1) mRNA expression, suggesting that the reduction in sperm vitality could be attributed to the activation of the stress axis. Moreover, the results indicated a significant decrease in sperm occupancy and count in the testes, along with a reduced percentage of motile sperm. Subsequent transcriptome analysis showed substantial inhibition of reproductive hormone genes (gnrh1, lh, and fsh) in the brain and pituitary, and downregulation of meiosis-related genes (dmc1, rec8, and sycp3) in the testes. These findings suggest that low temperatures might disrupt testicular development and spermatogenesis by inhibiting the reproductive axis. Metabolomics analysis then demonstrated a significant reduction in the levels of metabolites related to glycolysis, fatty acid metabolism, and the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle in the testes after low-temperature treatment. Interestingly, the expression of zona pellucida sperm-binding proteins 3 and 4 (ZP3 and ZP4), which may affect sperm vitality and spermatogenesis, was significantly induced by low temperatures in the testes. In conclusion, these findings suggested that low temperatures might affect testicular function and sperm vitality by simultaneously activating the stress axis and inhibiting the reproductive axis and energy metabolism in the testes.

Potential immortality is observed in several species (e.g. prickly pear cactus, hydra and flatworms) and is indicative of their negligible or even negative senescence rates. Unlike in senescent species, which experience reduced individual performance with age due to physiological degradation, species with negligible or negative senescence display mortality rates that remain constant or decline with age, respectively. These rates vary across taxa and are correlated with life history traits. Yet, the extent to which variable resource availability, a key driver of variation in life history traits, impacts species that show negligible or negative senescence is currently unknown. Here, we examine whether and how variation in the quantity, quality and feeding interval of resources impact population structure, population performance and life history trait trade-offs in two long-lived planaria that do not senesce: Schmidtea mediterranea and Dugesia tahitiensis. In a full factorial design, different combinations of resource quantity (reduced intake, standard intake and high intake) and quality (high and low quality) were provided in two different feeding intervals (7-day and 14-day intervals) for 19 weeks. We show that variability in resource availability, via decreases in quantity, quality and frequency of resources, does not diminish population viability in either species but does result in suboptimal conditions of stress in S. mediterranea. The high population viability we report can be attributed to two different mechanisms: increased reproduction or increased investment into maintenance at the expense of reproduction. Moreover, which mechanism was responsible for said high population viability was context-dependent and modulated by the specific life history strategy of the two planaria species. We show that suboptimal conditions can cause stress responses that have significant impacts on non-senescent species. The context-dependent response we observe suggests that species that do not senesce but are subject to suboptimal conditions of stress may ultimately exhibit declines in performance and ultimately die. A clearer understanding of the impact of suboptimal conditions of resource availability on non-senescent species is needed to determine the extent of stress experienced and ultimately whether a species can truly be immortal.

This paper aims to reply to Somay et al., regarding their comment to a previous paper from our group, titled "Clinical outcomes of teeth adjacent to the site of mandibulotomy or mandibulectomy in patients with head and neck cancer: results from a multidisciplinary mono-institutional head and neck tumor board".The following concerns were addressed: 1) Within the limits of a case series, mandibulectomy might be considered a risk factor for the loss of tooth vitality as well as mandibulotomy. 2) Root canal therapy before surgery on the teeth adjacent to the surgical site could be an appropriate strategy, although in some cased it may involve teeth which are not destinate to have endodontic complications. 3) Dose-volume data of the included teeth were provided: the impact of radiotherapy (RT) as a confounding factor seems not to be as relevant as Somay et al. have pointed out.

In previous studies, using transcriptomic analysis, we observed higher levels of aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) gene expression in the peripheral blood cells of centenarians compared to octogenarians. This suggests the potential significance of this receptor in maintaining physiological balance and promoting healthy aging, possibly linked to its critical role in detoxifying xenobiotics. In our current study, we confirmed that AHR expression is indeed higher in centenarians. We employed C. elegans as a model known for its suitability in longevity studies to explore whether the AHR pathway has a significant impact on lifespan and healthspan. Our survival assays revealed that two different mutants of AHR-1 exhibited lower longevity. Additionally, we used a mouse model to examine whether supplementation with pomegranate extract modulates the expression of AHR pathway genes in the liver. Furthermore, we studied a nutritional strategy based on pomegranate extract administration to investigate its potential modulation of life- and healthspan in worms.

As an important CXC chemokine, CXCL8 plays pleiotropic roles in immunological response. In teleost, CXCL8 is involved in cell migration and bacterial invasion. However, the immune antibacterial function of CXCL8 in Japanese flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) (PoCXCL8) is largely scarce. In this research, we investigated the antibacterial property and leukocyte activation of PoCXCL8. PoCXCL8 consists of 100 amino acid residues, with a conserved chemokine CXC domain. PoCXCL8 was expressed in various tissues, with the highest level in liver and the lowest level in muscle, and sharply induced by V. harveyi or E. tarda in liver, spleen, and head kidney. In vitro, the recombinant PoCXCL8 (rPoCXCL8) could bind to Bacillus subtilis, Edwardsiella tarda, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Vibrio anguillarum, Vibrio harveyi, Staphylococcus aureus, and Micrococcus luteus, affect the growth of E. coli, E. tarda, M. luteus, and P. fluorescens, and have a direct bactericidal effect on E. coli and E. tarda. Moreover, rPoCXCL8 was able to bind the outer membranal protein rPilA of E. tarda. In addition, rPoCXCL8 could bind to PBLs, activating the PBLs activity including chemotaxis, proliferation, phagocytosis, reactive oxygen species, acid phosphatase activity. At same time, rPoCXCL8 could induce neutrophil to generate neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) and promote the expression of inflammatory genes including IL-1ß, IL6, MMP13, TNF-α, and NF-κB. In flounder, the presence of rPoCXCL8 could enhance the in vivo resistance to E. tarda in liver, spleen, and head kidney. Moreover, the PoCXCL8-deficient could attenuate the fish defense against E. tarda infection in in spleen and head kidney. In conclusion, these results provided new insights into the antibacterial properties of CXCL8 in P. olivaceus.

Behavioral niceness has an important place in maintaining interpersonal relationships. Scale studies are needed to determine the level of niceness that plays a role in individuals' development of healthy daily interactions with other people. In this study, firstly, the psychometric properties of the Niceness Scale, which consists of six items, were examined in a Turkish sample (N = 404). Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the six-item one-dimensional structure, and item response analysis revealed a high level of discrimination across all items. The relationship of the Niceness Scale with previously validated and reliable scales was examined, and it was found that criterion-related validity was achieved. Furthermore, a network analysis revealed the relationships between the variables more clearly. In the scale's measurement invariance analysis, consistency was found for both genders. Then, the reliability of the Niceness Scale was proven with different reliability values. In a different Turkish sample (N = 372), it was determined that depression played a statistically significant mediating role in the relationship between niceness and subjective happiness. In conclusion, this study revealed that the one factor and six-item Niceness Scale are valid and reliable in the Turkish sample. Moreover, boosting niceness has been determined to reduce negative situations such as depression and therefore enhance subjective happiness. All these important implications about niceness are discussed in light of the literature.

Oil-mediated nano emulsion, a more advanced technology than other commercial extenders, will protect spermatozoa for extended periods against ROS and cryo injuries. The study is designed to elucidate the most suitable extender to preserve infertile subjects' sperm cells against ROS damage. This is a significant step forward for the andrology society, as it introduces the use of a nano emulsion extender (natural oil extract) for the first time, particularly for those who are undergoing urology-related defects. The study involved forty-four (44) infertile subjects with smoking habits and forty-two (42) fertile subjects without smoking habits, as per CASA guidelines. Semen preservatives (glycerol and egg yolk citrate), along with our naturally derived nano emulsion components (CN, EN, and EL), were prepared and used to preserve the semen sample for 24 hours. Standard semen parameters (morphology, viability, and integrity), ROS, and sperm acrosome state by staining were measured before and after cryopreservation. The results indicated that the morphology and motility of sperm features were better maintained in the CN-oil-mediated nano emulsion than in other emulsions, and ROS-induced DNA damage was reduced.

Introduction: This study explores the dynamics of Linguistic Landscapes (LL) in the commercial tourist district near Labrang Monastery by analyzing the use of Tibetan, Mandarin, and English on café menus. Traditionally, LL research has focused on language visibility as an indicator of vitality, overlooking contextual complexities. We challenge this approach by considering geocultural contexts, instigators' language proficiency, and intended audience. Method: This study employed a triangulation approach, combining multiple methods of data collection and analysis. First, we conducted a preliminary observation of shop names in the region. Second, with the consent of shop owners, we comprehensively documented visual and textual artifacts both inside and outside the cafés, including signboards, menus, wall billboards, and displayed books. Third, we conducted extensive semi-structured interviews with shop owners and customers. These interviews, transcribed for analysis, provided insights into language usage preferences and decision-making processes. Results: By advocating for a holistic LL research approach, integrating qualitative insights with quantitative data, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of LL dynamics. Our findings show that geocultural contexts, instigators' language proficiency, and intended audience all play a role in shaping language representation and vitality. Discussion: The absence of a language on signage does not necessarily signify diminished vitality but can reflect strategic decisions influenced by religious, individual and commercial factors. Beyond mere visibility, languages on café menus serve as symbolic markers of ethnic identity and reflect the functions they assume within the speech community, offering insights into language vitality across different usage contexts. This research enriches scholarly discourse on LL, particularly within the Chinese context, by emphasizing the multifaceted nature of language presence and its vitality.

Starch synthesis in maize endosperm adheres to the basipetal sequence from the apex downwards. However, the mechanism underlying nonuniformity among regions of the endosperm in starch accumulation and its significance is poorly understood. Here, we examined the spatiotemporal transcriptomes and starch accumulation dynamics in apical (AE), middle (ME), and basal (BE) regions of endosperm throughout the filling stage. Results demonstrated that the BE had lower levels of gene transcripts and enzymes facilitating starch synthesis, corresponding to incomplete starch storage at maturity, compared with AE and ME. Contrarily, the BE showed abundant gene expression for genetic processing and slow progress in physiological development (quantified by an index calculated from the expression values of development progress marker genes), revealing a sustained cell vitality of the BE. Further analysis demonstrated a significant parabolic correlation between starch synthesis and physiological development. An in-depth examination showed that the BE had more active signaling pathways of IAA and ABA than the AE throughout the filling stage, while ethylene showed the opposite pattern. Besides, SNF1-related protein kinase1 (SnRK1) activity, a regulator for starch synthesis modulated by trehalose-6-phosphate (T6P) signaling, was kept at a lower level in the BE than the AE and ME, corresponding to the distinct gene expression in the T6P pathway in starch synthesis regulation. Collectively, the findings support an improved understanding of the timing of starch synthesis and cell vitality in regions of the endosperm during development, and potential regulation from hormone signaling and T6P/SnRK1 signaling.

This study introduces an improved Ski Climate Index (SCI) designed to assess skiing suitability in China by applying fuzzy logic. Using daily meteorological data from 733 weather stations for the periods 1961-1990 and 1991-2020, the study identifies significant changes in SCI distribution over time. Additionally, a coupled analysis is performed, integrating the SCI results with the distribution and spatial vitality of 389 ski resorts in China. This analysis provides a comprehensive understanding of the interplay between actual ski resources and the ongoing evolution of the skiing industry in China and three significant results:1) The snow module has a major impact on SCI distribution, while other non-snow natural elements, such as sunshine duration, wind speed, and thermal comfort, influence the overall SCI assessment less; 2) High SCI values are concentrated in Northwestern and Northeastern China, with increased ski climate resources being observed in Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia, Southwest Tibet, and Sichuan due to climate change and noticeable declines in the Southern regions of Northeast China.; 3) In terms of the distribution and vitality of ski resorts, the SCI also partially reflects the development of ski resorts. This skiing suitability model uses climate resources to offer valuable insights for key decision-making in resort development and operation, thereby supporting advancement of the ice-snow economy.

This observational study explored the early-life challenges of intra-uterine growth restricted (IUGR), low birth body weight (LBW), and normal birth body weight (NBW) piglets. The aim was to understand the impact of birth weight and intra-uterine growth restriction phenotype on neonatal survival and behavior. Based on weight and phenotype, piglets were classified as IUGR (n = 32), LBW (n = 34), and NBW (n = 29) immediately after birth. The piglets were litter- and sex-matched. Vitality scores were assigned based on motor activity and breathing and complemented with an assessment of umbilical cord condition, rectal temperature, crown-rump length (CRL), time to reach the udder, time to suckle, colostrum intake, and weight gain over 24 h. Beyond the lower birth weight, reduced CRL, and higher mortality rate, IUGR piglets faced several other challenges compared with LBW and NBW piglets. Growth-impaired piglets often struggled to engage in early feeding behaviors and displayed consistently lower rectal temperatures at 1, 3 and 24 h after birth. IUGR piglets showed inadequate colostrum intake and weight loss, which were also observed for LBW counterparts. In contrast, no significant differences were observed in vitality scores and umbilical cord conditions across the groups. In conclusion, our findings underscore the impact of intra-uterine growth restriction on neonatal piglets, emphasizing the need for specialized care strategies to improve survival and health outcomes in IUGR.

Background: the global population is ageing. As older people become more susceptible to frailty, an increase in frailty prevalence is also expected. Although frailty has been defined before in research, older peoples' perceptions of frailty do not always coincide with those used in research or medical settings. Further exploring community-dwelling older people's viewpoints regarding frailty is essential for tailored care and policy. Aim: the aim of this study was to explore the perspectives of Dutch community-dwelling older people regarding frailty and its opposing concepts. Methods: a phenomenological qualitative study was conducted for which we carried out semi-structured interviews with independently living older people aged ≥65. Following the interviews, the participants filled out the Tilburg Frailty Indicator. Results: the different domains of frailty: 'physical', 'psychological', and 'social', were recognized by participants. In addition, other aspects, such as financial capacity and digital functioning, have been identified. Four aspects of the meaning of frailty were identified in the category of other frailty definitions: 'dependency', 'frailty as getting hurt', 'frailty as prone to deterioration', and 'frailty as experiences of loss and sacrifice'. Participants also described the opposites of frailty, which could also be distinguished according to the 'physical', 'psychological', and 'social' domains. In addition, participants mentioned the following concepts as opposing frailty: 'vitality', 'resilience', 'independence', 'autonomy', and 'ambition'. Conclusion: we found that frailty and its opposites share similar aspects, including physical, psychological, and social dimensions. Additionally, older people perceived cognition as an essential aspect of frailty. The psychological dimension seemed more dominant in concepts opposed to frailty, which raises opportunities to focus on the positive aspects and build on older people's (psychological) capabilities in managing frailty and its consequences. Based on these findings, policymakers and care professionals should consider the perspectives of older people regarding frailty and its opposing concepts.

The effects of radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation (RF-EMR) on semen quality have been in the spotlight in recent years, though research results to date have been contradictory. The effects of RF-EMR amongst others depend upon frequency, and there is currently no literature concerning the influence of 5G frequencies on both DNA integrity and spermatozoa vitality in males. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 5G RF-EMR on sperm membrane integrity, mitochondrial potential, and DNA integrity of in vitro exposed semen of breeding boars. The study included semen samples of eight breeding boars of the Pietren breed and four breeding boars of the German Landrace breed, from 1.5 to 3.5 years in age. Freshly diluted semen of each boar was divided into a control (n = 12) and experimental group (n = 12). The samples of the experimental group were exposed for 2 hours to continuous RF-EMR at a single frequency (700 MHz, 2500 MHz and 3500 MHz) and an electromagnetic field strength of 10 V/m using a transverse gigahertz electromagnetic cell. Sperm DNA fragmentation was assessed using a Halomax® kit and sperm membrane integrity and mitochondrial potential was assessed using a PI/SYBR-14 LIVE/DEAD viability kit with JC-1. A significantly higher proportion of spermatozoa with DNA fragmentation was found in exposed semen samples for all frequencies compared to the control group. The highest DNA damage was recorded in semen samples exposed to 5G RF-EMR at 2500 MHz (p < 0.01) and 3500 MHz (p < 0.05) vs. control semen samples. A significantly higher proportion of spermatozoa with damaged cell membrane and good mitochondrial potential was recorded in semen samples exposed with 3500 MHz. In vitro exposure of breading boar semen to 5G RF-EMR significantly increases the proportion of DNA fragmentation. The harmful effect of 5G RF-EMR on the proportion of spermatozoa with damaged DNA was frequency dependent. The 3500 MHz frequency displayed the most harmful effects due to significant impacts on DNA integrity and spermatozoa vitality indicators.

PURPOSE: This study aims to investigate the mediating roles of servant leadership and employee vitality in the relationship between psychological ownership and employee creativity among healthcare workers in Ghana. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: A sample of 736 public and private healthcare respondents was selected using a convenience sampling technique. Data collected using a self-reported questionnaire was analyzed via partial least square structural equation modeling. FINDINGS: The findings reveal that psychological ownership directly improves employee creativity, while servant leadership and employee vitality mediate the relationship between psychological ownership and employee creativity separately and complementarily. RESEARCH LIMITATIONS/IMPLICATIONS: The research used self-reported data, increasing the potential for common method variance. However, sufficient care was taken to minimize these limitations. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: This research makes valuable contributions to the field of healthcare practice literature. The findings suggest that management of health care entities should focus on creating a workplace culture that cultivates psychological ownership among employees and policies that enhance employee vitality and promote servant behavior to foster employee creativity. ORIGINALITY/VALUE: This study represents one of the earliest attempts to examine a theoretical framework that connects servant leadership, employee vitality, employee creativity and psychological ownership within the context of the health service industry.

Postoperative tissue flap vitality monitoring enables early detection of clinical complications, allowing for intervention. Timely re-operation can prevent the need for extensive correction procedures, thus reducing healthcare costs and hospitalization time. Statistics show that monitoring can increase the success rate of flap survival to 95% or higher. However, despite the significant progress in monitoring techniques, major and minor complications, leading to the loss of the flap, still occur. This clinical application review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the recent advancements and findings in flap surgery reconstructions, transplants, and systems for their postoperative assessment. The literature from the years 1925 to 2024 has been reviewed to capture previous and current solutions for monitoring flap vitality. Clinically acclaimed methods and experimental techniques were classified and reviewed from a technical and clinical standpoint. Physical examination, metabolism change, ultrasound method, and electromagnetic (EM) radiation-based measurement methods were carefully evaluated from the perspective of their considered applications. Guidelines aiding engineers in the future design and development process of monitoring systems were proposed. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the monitoring techniques used in postoperative flap vitality monitoring. It also gives an overview of each approach and potential ways for future development.

The development of tools to quickly identify the fate of damaged trees after a stress event such as a wildfire is of great importance. In this context, an innovative approach to assess irreversible physiological damage in trees could help to support the planning of management decisions for disturbed sites to restore biodiversity, protect the environment and understand the adaptations of ecosystem functionality. The vitality of trees can be estimated by several physiological indicators, such as cambium activity and the amount of starch and soluble sugars, while the accumulation of ethanol in the cambial cells and phloem is considered an alarm sign of cell death. However, their determination requires time-consuming laboratory protocols, making the approach impractical in the field. Biosensors hold considerable promise for substantially advancing this field. The general objective of this review is to define a system for quantifying the plant vitality in forest areas exposed to fire. This review describes recent electrochemical biosensors that can detect plant molecules, focusing on biosensors for glucose, fructose, and ethanol as indicators of tree vitality.

OBJECTIVE: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is essential for treating severe osteoarthritis. With various surgical approaches available, there has been a shift toward techniques that offer quicker recovery and fewer complications. In this study, contrast-enhanced ultrasound was used to evaluate the impact of the minimally invasive anterolateral versus conventional lateral approach in THA on the gluteus medius muscle, focusing on muscle vitality and functional outcomes. METHODS: A retrospective, cross-sectional analysis of 64 patients who underwent unilateral THA (26 lateral and 38 anterolateral) was conducted. Muscle strength was measured alongside joint flexibility and patient-reported outcome measures. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) examinations were conducted to visualize gluteus medius microperfusion. CEUS data were analyzed using VueBox 7.1 software and microperfusion parameters were calculated using peak enhancement (PE), wash-in perfusion index (WiPI) and rise time for muscle vitality evaluation. RESULTS: Patients from the anterolateral group exhibited higher relative muscle strength in the operated hip compared with the healthy side (96 ± 23% vs. 86 ± 23%, p = 0.048). CEUS revealed superior gluteus medius microperfusion in the anterolateral group (PE 36,300 ± 42,000 arbitrary units [a.u.] vs. 20,400 ± 20,200 a.u., p = 0.024; WiPI 23,600 ± 27,300 a.u. vs. 13,500 ± 13,300 a.u., p = 0.027). A positive Trendelenburg sign was evident in 2 out of 26 patients in the lateral group compared with none in the anterolateral group (χ2 = 0.082), indicating higher rates of gluteal insufficiency in the lateral approach group. CONCLUSION: Significantly higher muscle perfusion parameters in the anterolateral group, alongside improved muscle strength recovery, hint at a subtle but important advantage regarding post-operative recovery of the anterolateral approach. These findings support the ongoing trend toward minimally invasive surgical approaches in THA.

Fatigue is a symptom frequently complained about by older people but unfortunately poorly understood given its subjectivity and the lack of a gold standard for its assessment. The purpose of this study was therefore to preliminarily explore agreement among four different fatigue scales in a sample of persons with extreme longevity (PEL), their direct offsprings (DO), and controls (CO) matched for age and sex with DO. κ statistics was used to quantify agreement among four different fatigue scales. The agreement ranged from mild to substantial and almost perfect agreement depending on the group considered. The highest agreement was found between the Multidimensional Assessment of Fatigue scale and the Short Form Health Survey-36-Vitality Subscale in the PEL group (κ 0.820; 95 % CI 0.471-0.947). These preliminary findings may serve as a guide in selecting the most feasible instrument to assess fatigue in future large-scale research and clinical activities involving older people.

Continual changes in organizational structures within medical schools have contributed to the expanded scope and the centralization of faculty affairs offices, which support faculty administration and supportive functions. Using qualitative interviews, we investigated the perspectives of academic medicine faculty affairs leaders regarding their offices' priorities in sustaining faculty vitality in the face of current and anticipated challenges. A semi-structured interview protocol based on the researchers' practical knowledge, informed by the study's research inquiries, and pertinent academic literature guided the interviews. Deductive thematic analysis approach was used to identify the patterns and themes across the interviews. Our analysis revealed a central theme: the pivotal nature of the leader's role in strengthening faculty identity. Additionally, three sub-themes emerged concerning the leader's role in nurturing faculty well-being within today's academic medicine context: redefining faculty role, acknowledging and appreciating faculty contributions, and maintaining faculty engagement through a whole-person approach. Faculty affairs leaders describe widening roles with an emerging focus on a whole-person approach valuing the diverse contributions of faculty across the academic mission, supporting professional development, reflecting the individual motivations of faculty, and championing institutional processes that holistically evaluate and recognize faculty contributions.
