RESUMEN

Herein, three supported catalysts, CuO/Al2O3, CeO2/Al2O3, and CuO-CeO2/Al2O3, were synthesized by the convenient impregnation method to reveal the effect of CeO2 addition on catalytic performance and reaction mechanism for toluene oxidation. Compared with CuO/Al2O3, the T50 and T90 (the temperatures at 50% and 90% toluene conversion, respectively) of CuO-CeO2/Al2O3 were reduced by 33 and 39 °C, respectively. N2 adsorption-desorption experiment, XRD, SEM, EDS mapping, Raman, EPR, H2-TPR, O2-TPD, XPS, NH3-TPD, Toluene-TPD, and in-situ DRIFTS were conducted to characterize these catalysts. The excellent catalytic performance of CuO-CeO2/Al2O3 could be attributed to its strong copper-cerium interaction and high oxygen vacancies concentration. Moreover, in-situ DRIFTS proved that CuO-CeO2/Al2O3 promoted the conversion of toluene to benzoate and accelerated the deep degradation path of toluene. This work provided valuable insights into the development of efficient and economical catalysts for volatile organic compounds.

Catalytic destruction is an ascendant technology for the abatement of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) originating from solvent-based industrial processes. The varied composition tends to influence each VOC's catalytic behavior in the reaction mixture. We investigated the catalytic destruction of multi-component VOCs including dichloromethane (DCM) and ethyl acetate (EA), as representatives from pharmaceutical waste gases, over co-supported HxPO4-RuOx/CeO2 catalyst. A mutual inhibitory effect relating to concentrations because of competitive adsorption was verified in the binary VOCs oxidation and EA posed a more negative effect on DCM oxidation owing to EA's superior adsorption capacity. Preferential adsorption of EA on acidic sites (HxPO4/CeO2) promoted DCM activation on basic sites (O2-) and the dominating EA oxidation blocked DCM's access to oxidation centers (RuOx/CeO2), resulting in boosted monochloromethane yield and increased chlorine deposition for DCM oxidation. The impaired redox ability of Ru species owing to chlorine deposition in turn jeopardized deep oxidation of EA and its by-products, leading to increased gaseous by-products such as acetic acid originating from EA pyrolysis. Notably, DCM at low concentration slightly promoted EA conversion at low temperatures with or without water, consistent with the enhanced EA adsorption in co-adsorption analyses. This was mainly due to that DCM impeded the shielding effect of hydrolysate deposition from rapid EA hydrolysis depending on the decreased acidity. Moreover, water benefited EA hydrolysis but decreased CO2 selectivity while the generated water derived from EA was likely to affect DCM transformation. This work may provide theoretical guidance for the promotion of applied catalysts toward industrial applications.

BACKGROUND: Rs768705 (TMEM161B) is one of the identified single nucleotide polymorphisms related to major depressive disorder (MDD). Paranoid personality traits are independently associated with the risk of MDD. This study aimed to investigate the interaction effect between rs768705 (TMEM161B) and paranoid personality traits on the new-onset risk of MDD in Chinese freshmen. METHODS: A longitudinal study was conducted among 7642 Chinese freshmen without lifetime MDD at baseline in 2018. 158 new-onset MDD cases were ascertained in 2019. DNA samples were extracted to detect the genotype of rs768705. The diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders-IV criteria were used to determine MDD and personality disorder traits. Multiplicative interaction was assessed by logistic regression models. Tomas Andersson's method for calculating biological interactions was used to estimate the additive interaction. RESULTS: Rs768705(AG) (OR = 1.88, 95 % CI: 1.24-2.83) and paranoid personality traits (OR = 3.68, 95 % CI: 2.57-5.26) were significantly associated with the risk of MDD. The multiplicative interaction model with the product term of rs768705 and paranoid personality trait traits had a significant interaction effect (OR = 4.20, 95 % CI:1.62-10.91). There was also a significant additive interaction effect (RR = 7.08, 95 % CI:4.31-11.65) for the incidence of MDD. Seventy seven percent patients among new MDD cases were attributed to the additive interaction effect between rs768705 and paranoid personality traits. CONCLUSIONS: Rs768705 (AG) may interact with paranoid personality traits to increase the incidence of MDD among Chinese college students. Schools and psychosocial health organizations should pay more attention to individuals with paranoid personality traits for MDD intervention and prevention.

Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) residing in the tumor microenvironment (TME) are characterized by their pivotal roles in tumor progression, antitumor immunity, and TME remodeling. However, a thorough comparative characterization of tumor-TAM crosstalk across IDH-defined categories of glioma remains elusive, likely contributing to mixed outcomes in clinical trials. We delineated the phenotypic heterogeneity of TAMs across IDH-stratified gliomas. Notably, two TAM subsets with a mesenchymal phenotype were enriched in IDH-WT glioblastoma (GBM) and correlated with poorer patient survival and reduced response to anti-PD-1 immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI). We proposed SLAMF9 receptor as a potential therapeutic target. Inference of gene regulatory networks identified PPARG, ELK1, and MXI1 as master transcription factors of mesenchymal BMD-TAMs. Our analyses of reciprocal tumor-TAM interactions revealed distinct crosstalk in IDH-WT tumors, including ANXA1-FPR1/3, FN1-ITGAVB1, VEGFA-NRP1, and TNFSF12-TNFRSF12A with known contribution to immunosuppression, tumor proliferation, invasion and TAM recruitment. Spatially resolved transcriptomics further elucidated the architectural organization of highlighted communications. Furthermore, we demonstrated significant upregulation of ANXA1, FN1, NRP1, and TNFRSF12A genes in IDH-WT tumors using bulk RNA-seq and RT-qPCR. Longitudinal expression analysis of candidate genes revealed no difference between primary and recurrent tumors indicating that the interactive network of malignant states with TAMs does not drastically change upon recurrence. Collectively, our study offers insights into the unique cellular composition and communication of TAMs in glioma TME, revealing novel vulnerabilities for therapeutic interventions in IDH-WT GBM.

Background and objective: Depression is a widespread mental health condition that can impact both mental and physical well-being. Prior research has shown that high levels of copper in the blood and low levels of folate are linked to depression. This study aimed to explore whether serum folate levels, independently or in combination with serum copper levels, associated with the risk of depression. Methods: Data from participants aged 18-80 years in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2011 to 2016 were analyzed to examine the role of trace elements. Depression was assessed using the nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9). Logistic regression analyses were employed to evaluate the main effect of serum copper and folate levels on depression. Three indices, including the relative excess risk of interaction (RERI), attributable proportion of interaction (API), and synergy index (SI), were used to analyze the interaction effect. Results: Among the 4,847 participants selected for this study, 429 (8.9%) had PHQ-9 scores above 10, which we defined as having depressive symptoms. After adjusting for all confounding factors, higher serum copper levels [≥15.5 vs. <15.5 µmol/L, odds ratio (OR): 1.54; 95% confidence intervals (CI): 1.18-2.11] and folate deficiency (folate ≥53.7 vs. <53.7 µmol/L, OR: 1.44; 95% CI: 1.21-2.10) were associated with an increased risk of depression. Patients with both higher serum copper levels and folate deficiency (OR: 2.11; 95% CI: 1.43-3.14) had the highest risk of depression than other levels. High copper levels and low folate levels are associated with the occurrence of depression symptoms, and there may be a synergistic effect between them (SI: 1.65; 95% CI: 1.49-4.76), with this interaction accounting for 19% of depression cases (API: 0.19; 95% CI: 0.01-0.54). Conclusion: There may be a synergistic interaction between high copper levels and low folate levels associated with increasing risk of depression. Further population-based interventional studies are needed to confirm whether folic acid supplementation is effective in preventing depression in individuals with high blood copper levels.

In this study, the effect of different acetylated distarch phosphate (ADSP) ratios (0, 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%) on the physicochemical characteristics and stability of the oyster sauce (OS) system was investigated. The texture, water state, interactions, rheological properties, microstructure, and stability of OS samples were analyzed through the texture analyser, low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (LF-NMR), particle diameter and zeta potential, fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), rheometer, and microscopes. The results revealed that the addition of ADSP improved the firmness, consistency, cohesiveness, and water-holding capacity of OS. Moreover, ADSP reduced the average particle size and zeta potential of OS, indicating that electrostatic and steric stabilization existed in the ADSP-OS system. The addition of ADSP enhanced the hydrogen bonding and decreased water mobility for OS system, processing a more continuous and smooth structure. All ADSP-OS samples were typical non-Newtonian fluids with shear-thinning characteristics. In addition, the non-significant instability index changes of ADSP-OS over the whole storage period confirmed the excellent long-term stabilization capability of OS prepared with ADSP. This study provides a theoretical basis for starch-based sauce products and contributes to the development of sauce products.

Introduction: Dementia impacts millions worldwide and is challenging individuals' ability to engage in daily activities. Active living is crucial in mitigating dementia's neurodegenerative effects, yet people with dementia often struggle to initiate and complete tasks independently. Technologies offer promising solutions to engage people with dementia in activities of active living and improving their quality of life through prompting and cueing. It is anticipated that developments in sensor and wearable technologies will result in mixed reality technology becoming more accessible in everyday homes, making them more deployable. The possibility of mixed reality technologies to be programmed for different applications, and to adapt them to different levels of impairments, behaviours and contexts, will make them more scalable. Objective: The study aimed to develop a better understanding of modalities of prompts that people with dementia perceive successfully and correctly in mixed reality environments. It investigated interactions of people with dementia with different types of visual (graphics, animation, etc.) and sound (human voice, tones, etc.) prompts in mixed reality technologies. Methods: We used the Research through Design (RtD) method in this study. This paper describes the findings from the user research carried out in the study. We conducted observation studies with twenty-two people with dementia playing games on off-the-shelf mixed reality technologies, including both Augmented Reality (HoloLens, ArKit on iPhone) and Augmented Virtuality (Xbox Kinect and Osmo) technologies. The interactions with the technologies during the gameplay were video recorded for thematic analysis in Noldus Observer XT (version 16.0) for successful and correct perception of prompts. Results: A comparison of the probability estimates of correct perception of the prompts by people with dementia suggests that human voice, graphic symbols and text are the most prominently perceived modalities of prompts. Feedback prompts for every action performed by people with dementia on the technology are critical for successful perception and should always be provided in the design. Conclusion: The study has resulted in recommendations and guidelines for designers to design prompts for people with dementia in mixed-reality environments. The work lays the foundation for considering mixed reality technologies as assistive tools for people with dementia, fostering discussions on their accessibility and inclusive design in technology development.

Arbutin, a typical optical isomer, has garnered widespread acclaim in the whitening cosmetics for its favorable efficacy and safety. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying α-arbutin and ß-arbutin permeating across the skin have not elucidated clearly yet. Herein we aimed to unveil how α-arbutin and ß-arbutin interacted with keratin or SC lipids, further demonstrating their relationship with their drug permeability. We found that α-arbutin displayed significantly higher drug accumulation into the porcine skin than ß-arbutin within 24 h through in vitro permeation test. Moreover, α-arbutin predominantly induced the alternations of secondary structure of amide II during the drug permeation, which was favorable for α-arbutin permeation. On the contrary, ß-arbutin exhibited an observable effect on the stretching vibration of SC lipids, possessing a significantly stronger mixing energy, binding energy and compatibility with ceramide (Cer) than that of α-arbutin, which ultimately restricted its permeation. Interestingly, free fatty acids and ceramides of the SC lipids specifically utilized its oxygen atom of carboxyl group to dock the arbutin molecules, enhancing their affinity with ß-arbutin, as confirmed by molecular simulation and 13Carbon Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. Nevertheless, a favorable compatibility between α-arbutin and keratin was observed. It was emphasized that the distinct spatial configuration and opposite optical rotation of arbutin was the leading factor impacting the intermolecular force between arbutin and the SC, and resulted in a diverse drug permeation. In cellular and in vivo skin pharmacokinetic studies, α-arbutin also possessed a higher cellular uptake and topical bioavailability than ß-arbutin. This study revealed the transdermal permeation mechanisms of optical isomer arbutin at the molecular levels, providing methodological reference for the investigations of permeation behaviors of other isomers with similar spatial configuration.

Infants' thoughts are classically characterized as iconic, perceptual-like representations.1,2,3 Less clear is whether preverbal infants also possess a propositional language of thought, where mental symbols are combined according to syntactic rules, very much like words in sentences.4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17 Because it is rich, productive, and abstract, a language of thought would provide a key to explaining impressive achievements in early infancy, from logical inference to representation of false beliefs.18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,27,28,29,30,31 A propositional language-including a language of thought5-implies thematic roles that, in a sentence, indicate the relation between noun and verb phrases, defining who acts on whom; i.e., who is the agent and who is the patient.32,33,34,35,36,37,38,39 Agent and patient roles are abstract in that they generally apply to different situations: whether A kicks, helps, or kisses B, A is the agent and B is the patient. Do preverbal infants represent abstract agent and patient roles? We presented 7-month-olds (n = 143) with sequences of scenes where the posture or relative positioning of two individuals indicated that, across different interactions, A acted on B. Results from habituation (experiment 1) and pupillometry paradigms (experiments 2 and 3) demonstrated that infants showed surprise when roles eventually switched (B acted on A). Thus, while encoding social interactions, infants fill in an abstract relational structure that marks the roles of agent and patient and that can be accessed via different event scenes and properties of the event participants (body postures or positioning). This mental process implies a combinatorial capacity that lays the foundations for productivity and compositionality in language and cognition.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) has been linked with female infertility (FI). Nevertheless, our understanding of the molecular hallmarks and underlying mechanisms remains elusive. This research article aimed to find the hub genes, pathways, transcription factors, and miRNA involved. For this study, softwares like cytoscape, string, Enrichr, FFL loop, etc., were utilized. This research article employed differentially expressed genes (DEGs) to identify multiple biological targets to understand the association between T2D and female infertility (FI). Between T2D and FI, we found 3869 differentially expressed genes. We have also analyzed different pathways like thyroid hormone signaling pathways, AGE-RAGE signaling pathways in diabetic complications and ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis through pathway analysis. Moreover, hub genes MED17, PRKCG, THRA, FOXO1, NCOA2, PLCG2, COL1A1, CXCL8, PRPF19, ANAPC5, UBE2I, XIAP and KEAP1 have been identified. Additionally, these hub genes were subjected to identify the miRNA-mRNA regulation network specific to T2D-associated female infertility. In the FFL study (Feed Forward Loop), transcription factor (SP1, NFKB1, RELA and FOX01), miRNA (has-mir-7-5p, has-let-7a-5p, hsa-mir-16-5p, hsa-mir-155-5p, has-mir-122-5p, has-let-7b-5p, has-mir-124-3p, has-mir-34a-5p, has-mir-130a-3p, has-let-7i-5p, and hsa-mir-27a-3p) and six genes (XIAP, THRA, NCOA2, MED17, FOXO1, and COL1A1) among the thirteen key genes were recognized as regulator and inhibitor. Our analysis reveals that these genes can serve as a significant biomarker for female infertility linked with Type 2 Diabetes, through the prioritization of candidate genes. This study gives us insight into the molecular and cellular mechanism of T2D-associated FI. This finding helps in developing novel therapeutic approaches and will improve efficacy and reduce side effects of the treatment. This research requires further experimental investigation of the principal targets.

In search of novel therapeutic options to treat influenza virus (IV) infections, we previously identified a series of inhibitors that act by disrupting the interactions between the PA and PB1 subunits of the viral RNA polymerase. These compounds showed broad-spectrum antiviral activity against human influenza A and B viruses and a high barrier to the induction of drug resistance in vitro. In this short communication, we investigated the effects of combinations of the PA-PB1 interaction inhibitor 54 with oseltamivir carboxylate (OSC), zanamivir (ZA), favipiravir (FPV), and baloxavir marboxil (BXM) on the inhibition of influenza A and B virus replication in vitro. We observed a synergistic effect of the 54/OSC and 54/ZA combinations and an antagonistic effect when 54 was combined with either FPV or BXM. Moreover, we demonstrated the efficacy of 54 against highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIVs) both in cell culture and in the embryonated chicken eggs model. Finally, we observed that 54 enhances OSC protective effect against HPAIV replication in the embryonated eggs model. Our findings represent an advance in the development of alternative therapeutic strategies against both human and avian IV infections.

Application of microbial agents is a novel strategy to improve the quality and health of plant, which can be used to increase zinc (Zn) uptake and alleviate Zn toxicity. Here, endophytic bacteria with Zn solubilizing and growth-promoting properties were isolated from hyperaccumulating ecotype (HE) of Sedum alfredii Hance and their effects on Zn absorption and accumulation of non-hyperaccumulating ecotype (NHE) were studied. The results showed that most endophytic bacteria of HE have good Zn solubilizing or growth-promoting properties. Under the condition of 20 µM ZnSO4, the biomass of NHE inoculated with SaPS1, SaEN2, SaPR2, SaBA2, SaBA3 was 2.8-3.2 times higher than that of non-inoculation control, and the Zn concentration of shoots was increased by 45.9, 89.0, 53.7, 77.5, and 42.6% after inoculation with SaPA1, SaP1, SaEN2, SaBA1, and SaBA2. Under the condition of 100 µM ZnSO4, inoculation with SaVA1, SaPS3, SaB1, SaPR1, and SaEN3 alleviated Zn stress and significantly reduced Zn concentration of shoots. Therefore, endophytic bacteria can be an effective means of improving plant Zn nutrition quality in the normal condition and benefit plant health in the stress environment.


In this study, endophytes with Zn solubilizing properties were systematically isolated from Zn hyperaccumulator Sedum alfredii Hance. The aim is to identify endophyte resources with good promoting effect on plant growth and Zn uptake, and to provide scientific basis for the development of efficient biofortified agent.

Water occurrence states in sewage sludge, influenced by sludge physicochemical properties, are crucial for sludge dewaterability and have recently been regarded as a research hotspot. Here, the multifold characteristics of sludge flocs during hydrothermal treatment, including rheological properties, solid-water interfacial interactions, and the polarity distribution and molecular structure of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), were systematically investigated, and the impact of these characteristics on sludge dewaterability was explored in depth. Hydrothermal treatment at 80 °C and 100 °C induced the conversion of free water into bound water, while an increase in temperature to 180 °C resulted in a significant decrease in bound water content, approximately 4-fold lower than at 100 °C. In addition to the conventional view of decreased sludge surface hydrophilicity at high temperatures, the decline in bound water was associated with the reduction in sludge apparent viscosity. XAD resin fractionation identified the hydrophobic/hydrophilic EPS (HPO-/HPI) ratio as an important factor determining water occurrence states. Especially, hydrolysis of HPI-related hydrophilic proteins and subsequent increase in HPO-related tryptophan-like substances played a dominant role in reducing sludge viscosity and facilitating the release of bound water. Protein conformational analysis revealed that the disruption of α-helix structures and disulfide bonds significantly reduced EPS water-holding capacity, providing strong evidence for the potential of targeting these dense structure units to enhance sludge dewaterability. These findings provide a holistic understanding of multidimensional drivers of water occurrence states in sludge, and guide directions for optimizing sludge treatment efficiency through EPS modification.

Our aim was to explore young adults' anticipations of and motives for trusting robot medication counseling in a high-stakes scenario. Methods: Through a co-creation approach, we co-designed a prototype application for the Furhat platform together with young adults. In-lab testing of a pharmacy scenario, where the robot provides medication counseling related to emergency contraceptive pills, was conducted to deepen our understanding of some factors driving young adults' initial trust establishment and anticipations of interacting with a robot in a high-stakes scenario. Qualitative data from interviews with six study participants were analyzed using inductive, reflexive thematic analysis and are presented through a narrative approach. Results: We outline five tales of trust characterized by personas. A continuum of different anticipations for consulting a robot in medication counseling is presented, ranging from low to high expectations of use. Driving factors in the initial trust establishment process are position, autonomy, boundaries, shame, gaze, and alignment. Discussion: The article adds to the understanding of the dimensions of the multifaceted trust concept, of driving trust factors, and of the subsequent anticipation to trust robots in a high-stakes pharmacy context.

Objective: There is evidence that suggests that affective dimensions, personality traits, as well as students' cooperative interpersonal interactions, are an important element in the students learning process. In this work we propose a theoretical model, based on evidence, that shows the direct and indirect relationships between these factors and academic performance in mathematics courses, in undergraduate and school students. Methods: To understand the type of relationships between these variables, the PANAS psychometric test of positive and negative affect, the BIG FIVE personality test and the economic decision game DUPLES GAME were applied. The study sample was 130 students between 17 and 22 years of age from undergraduate and school (M ± SD = 20.1 ± 3.99). Results: From a path analysis, statistically significant relationships were found, for example, a direct relationship between neuroticism and positive affect, which in turn is related to academic performance. We also found a direct relationship between neuroticism and negative affect, extraversion and positive affect. This allows us to propose that some of the independent variables of the model directly and indirectly influence the academic performance of students in the subject of mathematics. Conclusion: Positive affect and negative affect directly affect academic performance in mathematics, neuroticism has a direct impact on negative affect and extraversion direct impact on positive affect. Consequently, there are direct and indirect relationships between personality traits and affective dimensions, which affect the academic performance of mathematics students.

Objective: Early psychosocial interventions for preterm infants and their parents are diverse. This study aimed to structure the knowledge on psychosocial parent-infant interventions and to identify gaps in the intervention studies. Methods: We included studies on early (during first year of life) psychosocial parent-infant interventions with parent-infant relationship outcomes after preterm birth (< 37 weeks). We excluded studies that did not focus on preterm infants, failed to indicate the studied intervention and outcomes, were not written in English, were not controlled or peer-reviewed studies, or did not provide essential information for eligibility. The search included studies published between January 2000 and March 2024 in PubMed and PsycINFO. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were followed in reporting. Psychosocial parent-infant intervention studies were classified adapting the International Classification of Health Interventions (ICHI) and the Template for Intervention Description and Replication (TIDieR). Results: The included 22 studies reported data from 18 different interventions with preterm infants (< 37 weeks). Studies excluded preterm infants with health risks (19/22, 86%), with very low gestational age and/or birth weight (7/22, 32%), and/or mothers with psychosocial risks (14/22, 64%). Of the 18 interventions, 12 (67%) were classified as counseling, 3 (17%) as emotional support, 2 (11%) as psychotherapeutic, and 1 (6%) as educational. The parent-child relationship was assessed using 30 different methods and varying time points up to 18 months of age. Most studies (17/22, 77%) reported positive changes in the parent-child relationship favoring the intervention group. Conclusion: We identified four types of interventions to influence parenting behavior; the most used was counseling. All four intervention types showed positive effects on parent-infant relationships, although the preterm populations studied were selective, the effects were evaluated using different methods, and the follow-up periods were short. These findings indicate a need for studies with standardized methods, longer follow-up, and less-restricted preterm populations to develop guidelines for all families with preterm infants.

Photons do not carry sufficient momentum to induce indirect optical transitions in semiconducting materials, such as silicon, necessitating the assistance of lattice phonons to conserve momentum. Compared to direct bandgap semiconductors, this renders silicon a less attractive material for a wide variety of optoelectronic applications. In this work, we introduce an alternative strategy to fulfill the momentum-matching requirement in indirect optical transitions. We demonstrate that when confined to scales below ∼3 nm, photons acquire sufficient momentum to allow electronic transitions at the band edge of Si without the assistance of a phonon. Confined photons allow simultaneous energy and momentum conservation in two-body photon-electron scattering; in effect, converting silicon into a direct bandgap semiconductor. We show that this less-explored concept of light-matter interaction leads to a marked increase in the absorptivity of Si from the UV to the near-IR. The strategy provides opportunities for more efficient use of indirect semiconductors in photovoltaics, energy conversion, light detection, and emission.

In this paper, with the goal of addressing the lack of tactile feedback in colorectal cancer (CRC) polyps diagnosis using a colonoscopy procedure, we propose the design and fabrication of a novel soft and inflatable strain-based tactile sensing balloon (SI-STSB). The proposed soft sensor features a unique stretchable sensing layer - that utilizes a liquid metal injected within spiral-shape microchannels of a stretchable substrate - and is integrated with a unique inflatable balloon mechanism. The proposed SI-STSB has been thoroughly characterized through different calibration experiments. Results demonstrate a phenomenal adjustable sensitivity with low hysteresis behavior under different experimental conditions for this sensor making it a great candidate for enhancing the existing diagnosis procedures.

This review provides a comprehensive overview of the progress in light-material interactions (LMIs), focusing on lasers and flash lights for energy conversion and storage applications. We discuss intricate LMI parameters such as light sources, interaction time, and fluence to elucidate their importance in material processing. In addition, this study covers various light-induced photothermal and photochemical processes ranging from melting, crystallization, and ablation to doping and synthesis, which are essential for developing energy materials and devices. Finally, we present extensive energy conversion and storage applications demonstrated by LMI technologies, including energy harvesters, sensors, capacitors, and batteries. Despite the several challenges associated with LMIs, such as complex mechanisms, and high-degrees of freedom, we believe that substantial contributions and potential for the commercialization of future energy systems can be achieved by advancing optical technologies through comprehensive academic research and multidisciplinary collaborations.
