RESUMEN

A previous study on ovarian and hypothalami transcriptome analysis in white Muscovy duck revealed that MAP3K8 gene participated in MAPK signaling pathway that influence egg production. Additionally, MAP3K8 was predicted as a target gene of miRNA-509-3p that promotes the secretion of oestradiol which is an important hormone in egg ovulation. This suggested that MAP3K8 might have a functional role in the reproductive performance "egg production" of white Muscovy ducks. Herein, we focused on expression level of MAP3K8 in reproductive and non-reproductive tissues of highest (HP) and lowest (LP) egg producing white Muscovy ducks and identified the polymorphism in MAP3K8 and its association with three egg production traits; Age at first egg (AFE), number of eggs at 300 days (N300D) and 59 weeks (N59W). The results of expression level indicated that mRNA of MAP3K8 was significantly (p < 0.01) expressed in the oviduct than in the ovary and hypothalamus. Seven synonymous SNPs were detected, and association analysis showed that g.148303340 G>A and g.148290065 A>G were significantly (p < 0.05) associated with N300D and N59W. The results of this study might serve as molecular marker for marker-assisted selection of white Muscovy ducks for egg production.

Lifespan is influenced by complex interactions between genetic and environmental factors. Studying those factors in model organisms of a single genetic background limits their translational value for humans. Here, we mapped lifespan determinants in 85 C. elegans recombinant inbred advanced intercross lines (RIAILs). We assessed molecular profiles-transcriptome, proteome, and lipidome-and life-history traits, including lifespan, development, growth dynamics, and reproduction. RIAILs exhibited large variations in lifespan, which correlated positively with developmental time. We validated three longevity modulators, including rict-1, gfm-1, and mltn-1, among the top candidates obtained from multiomics data integration and quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping. We translated their relevance to humans using UK Biobank data and showed that variants in GFM1 are associated with an elevated risk of age-related heart failure. We organized our dataset as a resource that allows interactive explorations for new longevity targets.

Manipulating root functional traits related to phosphorus (P) mobilization and acquisition by using the optimum rate of synthetic P fertilizer coupled with straw addition is a promising option for improving nutrient-use efficiency in agriculture. How such practices influence soil cadmium (Cd) fractions and plant Cd accumulation remains unknown. We conducted two field trials: exp. 1 with varied P fertilizer rates [control without P, reduced rates of P fertilization at 100 and 160 kg P ha-1 as well as the standard P fertilization rate (200 kg P ha-1) used by farmers], and exp. 2 with reduced P fertilization at 100 and 160 kg P ha-1 without or with straw addition (10 t ha-1) to investigate soil Cd fractionations and S. lycopersicum Cd uptake as influenced by root morphological and exudation traits related to P acquisition. In experiment 1, reduced P rates (100 and 160 kg P ha-1) increased the concentration of exchangeable Cd in soil by 6.4 %-77.1 %, which corresponded to a 12.6 %-18.4 % increase in Cd concentration in S. lycopersicum fruits. These reduced rates of P fertilization induced root proliferation and rhizosphere carboxylate exudation, increasing the relative proportion of exchangeable Cd in the soil solution and enhancing Cd uptake, especially from 30th to 45th day of S. lycopersicum growth. By contrast, the straw addition (exp 2) increased soil organic matter in soil by 7.19 %-15.8 % and decreased both rhizosphere carboxylate content by 6.47 %-35.5 % and soil exchangeable Cd content irrespective of P treatments. Consequently, with straw addition, fruit Cd content decreased by 26.5 % and 26.4 %, respectively, at 100 and 160 kg P ha-1. In summary, the P-responsive root functional traits influenced soil Cd fractionation (via carboxylate exudation) and mediated Cd accumulation (via root proliferation). Straw amendment diminished these P-responsive root traits, thus decreasing Cd accumulation by S. lycopersicum.

Objective: This study sought to explore the potential causal relationships among immune cell traits, Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) and metabolites. Methods: Employing a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) approach, the study investigated the causal associations between 731 immune cell traits, 1400 metabolite levels and GBS leveraging summary-level data from a genome-wide association study (GWAS). To ensure the reliability of our findings, we further assessed horizontal pleiotropy and heterogeneity and evaluated the stability of MR results using the Leave-one-out method. Results: This study revealed a causal relationship between CD3 on activated & secreting Tregs and GBS. Higher CD3 on activated and secreting Regulatory Tregs increased the risk of GBS (primary MR analysis odds ratio (OR) 1.31/SD increase, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.08-1.58, p = 0.005). There was no reverse causality for GBS on CD3 on activated & secreting Tregs (p = 0.36). Plasma metabolite N-Acetyl-L-Alanine (ALA) was significantly positively correlated with GBS by using the IVW method (OR = 2.04, 95% CI, 1.26-3.30; p = 0.00038). CD3 on activated & secreting Tregs was found to be positively associated with ALA risk (IVW method, OR, 1.04; [95% CI, 1.01-1.07], p = 0.0078). Mediation MR analysis indicated the mediated proportion of CD3 on activated & secreting Tregs mediated by ALA was 10% (95%CI 2.63%, 17.4%). Conclusion: In conclusion, our study identified a causal relationship between the level of CD3 on activated & secreting Tregs and GBS by genetic means, with a considerable proportion of the effect mediated by ALA. In clinical practice, thus providing guidance for future clinical research.

Aim: Pathological mechanisms of "long COVID" after recovery from the main symptoms of COVID-19 are unclear. We compared psychological differences between individuals with and without long COVID symptoms after initial COVID-19 infections. Methods: This study includes medical workers with and without history of COVID-19. We assessed the degree of depression, health-related quality of life (HRQOL), the degree of anxiety and fear of COVID-19, and we used an original questionnaire. In the COVID-19 group, we also assessed personality traits and anxiety. The COVID-19 group was subclassified into those with and without long COVID to examine differences in circumstantial and psychological examinations. Results: Of 310 participants (141 men, 169 women, median age: 40 years), 167 had history of COVID-19 (83/84, 37 years) and 143 did not (58 men/85 women, 46 years). In the COVID-19 group, 26 had long COVID (12/14, 32 years) and 141 did not (58/85, 46 years). Fewer participants in the COVID-19 group had had COVID-19 vaccinations. The long COVID group had higher number of symptoms at the time of illness and higher NEO Five Factor Inventory Neuroticism scores than the non-long COVID group. They also had poorer mental health according to HRQOL than those without. Conclusion: Risk factors for long COVID may include the number of symptoms at the time of illness and neurotic tendency on NEO Five Factor Inventory. Participants with long COVID had poorer mental health according to HRQOL. People with long COVID might be especially sensitive to and pessimistic about the symptoms that interfere with their daily lives, resulting in certain cognitive and behavioral patterns. They may benefit from early psychiatric intervention.

Phytomanagement of contaminated sites can mitigate exposure risks for surrounding populations while providing numerous ecological services. To meet these goals, trait-based models are proposed to guide plant selection. However, this relies on the assumption that plant traits can effectively predict key services and that traits of individual species can be used to predict mean, or community-level traits of a given species assemblage. To critically evaluate these assumptions, we conducted a mesocosm study where three willow species were planted in all possible combinations (1 to 3 species) in contaminated soil under a controlled environment, for 110 days. At the community-level (for every mesocosm), we measured ten functional traits and three phytoremediation services (i.e. phytoextraction, phytostabilization, and translocation factor). We evaluated the differences between observed community-level traits and expectations from traits of the corresponding species grown in monocultures. Then, we compared the predictability of phytoremediation services through species composition and community-level traits. Our results indicate that, despite the short phylogenetic gradient, willow species exhibit distinct and predictable traits within assemblages. Moreover, trait values measured here are comparable to the values retrieved on the TRY database, confirming the potential of global databases to guide trait-based efforts in phytoremediation. Phytoremediation services were not predicted by species composition (mean R2adj = 0.05), but rather well explained by community-level traits (mean R2adj = 0.52). This suggests that models incorporating functional information are better suited to predict and understand phytoremediation services. Phytoextraction was generally correlated to fast-to-intermediate aboveground growth strategies with fast-growing belowground tissues, while translocation factors were associated with slower root growth. Phytostabilization was associated with faster-growing root systems and stress-tolerant capacities from the aboveground tissues. This experiment represent a strong test for trait-based models, given the short phylogenetic and contamination gradients tested. This reinforces the potential of trait-based models in phytoremediation and phytotechnologies more broadly.

This essay discusses how the ultrastructural changes in chloroplasts, particularly the mechanisms of thylakoid membrane unstacking, help maintain the photosynthetic performance of photosystem II (PSII) under stress conditions. This phenomenon may facilitate the repair of damaged PSII by providing access to the repair machinery. It is argued that this PSII repair mechanism accelerates PSII recovery, optimizing photosynthetic processes in stressed plants. Although some studies demonstrate the relationship between thylakoid membrane unstacking in stress conditions, these studies were developed with model species under controlled conditions. Thus, this essay serves as a validation tool for these previous studies, because it demonstrates that the relationships between ultrastructural changes in chloroplasts and the functioning of PSII are essential acclimative strategies for nonmodel plants to survive the constant edaphoclimatic changes of natural environments. Understanding these subcellular dynamics can significantly inform biologists about the plastic potential of plants, especially in heterogeneous environments. An integrated approach in future studies is necessary, highlighting the importance of exploring plant functional traits at multiple scales, because subcellular characteristics have great potential to understand plant acclimatization.

We applied a novel framework based on network theory and a concept of modularity that estimates congruence between trait-based ( = functional) co-occurrence networks, thus allowing the inference of co-occurrence patterns and the determination of the predominant mechanism of community assembly. The aim was to investigate the relationships between species co-occurrence and trait similarity in flea communities at various scales (compound communities: across regions within a biogeographic realm or across sampling sites within a geographic region; component communities: across sampling sites within a geographic region; and infracommunities: within a sampling site). We found that compound communities within biogeographic realms were assembled via environmental or host-associated filtering. In contrast, functional and spatial/host-associated co-occurrence networks, at the scale of regional compound communities, mostly indicated either stochastic processes or the lack of dominance of any deterministic process. Analyses of congruence between functional and either spatial (for component communities) or host-associated (for infracommunities) co-occurrence networks demonstrated that assembly rules in these communities varied among host species. In component communities, stochastic processes prevailed, whereas environmental filtering was indicated in 4 and limiting similarity/competition in 9 of 31 communities. Limiting similarity/competition processes dominated in infracommunities, followed by stochastic mechanisms. We conclude that assembly processes in parasite communities are scale-dependent, with different mechanisms acting at different scales.

Among the many forms of psychological violence, gaslighting is a particularly insidious manipulative behaviour that includes acts aimed at controlling and altering one's own partner's sensations, thoughts, actions, affective state, self-perception, and reality-testing. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between the experience of gaslighting and dysfunctional aspects of the partner's personality. Gaslighter personality facets were assessed using the Personality Inventory for DSM-5-Informant Form-Adult (PID-5-IRF), while gaslighting behaviours were assessed using a 25-item questionnaire, based on the three categories of glamour, good-guy, and intimidator (Stern, 2007). The sample was made up of a group of 177 Italian emerging adults aged between 19 and 26 (49.2% male, 50.8% female; M = 21.88, SD = 1.75), enrolled at University, who participated voluntarily in the research. In fact, none of them received any form of direct or indirect incentive. In our study, we applied a beta regression model mapping the Likert scale into the open interval (0,1). The main results show (a) good-guy gaslighting is positively associated with manipulativeness and negatively associated with deceitfulness; (b) glamour gaslighting has a negative association with separation insecurity and manipulativeness, but it is positively associated with irresponsibility; (c) intimidator gaslighting has a positive association with separation insecurity and distractibility and a negative association with eccentricity and perceptual dysregulation; (d) all three gaslighting categories are negatively associated with anhedonia and impulsivity. Based on what emerged from the data, aspects such as separation insecurity, irresponsibility, and distractibility can be seen as serious risk factors for gaslighting. For this reason, with regard to clinical implications, an early recognition of dysfunctional traits in potential abusers should be fostered in order to protect both potential abusers and their partner from aggressive conduct within an intimate relationship.


Entre las muchas formas de violencia psicológica, el gaslighting es un comportamiento manipulador particularmente insidioso que incluye actos destinados a controlar y alterar sensaciones, pensamientos, acciones, estado afectivo, autopercepción y estado de realidad de la pareja. El propósito de este estudio fue evaluar la asociación entre la experiencia del gaslighting y los aspectos disfuncionales de la personalidad de la pareja. Los aspectos de la personalidad de gaslighting se evaluaron utilizando el Inventario de Personalidad para DSM-5-Formulario de Informante-Adulto (PID-5-IRF), mientras que los comportamientos de gaslighting se evaluaron usando un cuestionario de 25 ítems, basado en las tres categorías de glamoroso, buen tipo e intimidante (Stern, 2007). La muestra estuvo compuesta por un grupo de 177 adultos jóvenes italianos de entre 19 y 26 años (49.2% hombres, 50.8% mujeres; M = 21.88, SD = 1.75), quienes estaban matriculados en la universidad y participaron voluntariamente en la investigación. De hecho, ninguno de ellos recibió algún tipo de incentivo, ya fuera directo o indirecto. En nuestro estudio aplicamos un modelo de regresión beta que mapea la escala Likert en el rango abierto (0,1). Los principales hallazgos muestran (a) que el buen tipo de gaslighting está positivamente asociado con la manipulación y negativamente asociado con el engaño; (b) el gaslighting glamoroso tiene una asociación negativa con la separación, la inseguridad y la manipulación, pero está positivamente asociado con la irresponsabilidad; (c) la iluminación del intimidador tiene una asociación positiva con la inseguridad de la separación y la distracción y una asociación negativa con la excentricidad y la desregulación perceptiva; (d) las tres categorías de gaslighting están asociadas negativamente con la anhedonia y la impulsividad. Según lo que surgió de los datos, aspectos como la inseguridad en la separación, la irresponsabilidad y la distracción pueden considerarse factores de riesgo graves para el gaslighting. Por esta razón, en las implicaciones clínicas, se debe promover un reconocimiento temprano de los rasgos disfuncionales en los abusadores potenciales para proteger tanto a los abusadores potenciales como a su pareja del comportamiento agresivo dentro de una relación.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: There is ongoing debate about whether offspring perform best next to phylogenetically distantly related adult neighbours (due to the scarcity of enemies and competitors) or next to closely related adults (due to the abundance of mutualists). Here we hypothesise that relatedness of adult neighbours affects which traits confer performance rather than performance itself. METHODS: We studied seed removal, seed germination and sapling growth in Sessile Oaks (Quercus petraea and hybrids), and how they depend on size, shape and other traits, under both closely and distantly related canopies, manipulating offspring-density, presence of insects, and fungi, and spatial proximity to oaks. KEY RESULTS: We found that phylogenetic distance of adult neighbours affects only little performance of offspring but strongly which traits confer performance to offspring, in particular the size and shape of seeds and saplings. Differences in trait-performance relationships mostly disappear once insects or conspecific competitors are excluded (albeit exclusion of fungi reinforced these differences). Effects of phylogenetic distance of neighbours were not replaceable by the percentage of the gymnosperms among neighbours, nor the environmental conditions considered. CONCLUSIONS: We suggest that by responding to a biotic micro-mosaic of selection pressures, Sessile Oak flexibly succeeds in diverse neighbourhoods. Sessile Oak might maintain the potential for both, convergence with and divergence from phylogenetically distantly related species, thereby reinforcing or eroding phylogenetic signal of niches.

Grip strength (GS) is a proxy measure for muscular strength and a predictor for bone fracture risk among other diseases. Previous genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have been conducted in large cohorts of adults focusing on scores collected for the dominant hand, therefore increasing the likelihood of confounding effects by environmental factors. Here, we perform the first GWAS meta-analyses on maximal GS with the dominant (GSD) and non-dominant (GSND) hand in two cohorts of children (ALSPAC, N = 5450; age range = 10.65-13.61; Raine Study, N = 1162, age range: 9.42-12.38 years). We identified a novel significant association for GSND (rs9546244, LINC02465, p = 3.43e-08) and replicated associations previously reported in adults including with a HOXB3 gene marker that shows an expression quantitative trait locus (eQTL) effect. Despite a much smaller sample (~3%) compared with the UK Biobank we replicated correlation analyses previously reported in this much larger adult cohort, such as a negative correlation with coronary artery disease. Although the results from the polygenic risk score (PRS) analyses did not survive multiple testing correction, we observed nominally significant associations between GS and risk of overall fracture, as previously reported, as well ADHD which will require further investigations. Finally, we observed a higher SNP-heritability (24%-41%) compared with previous studies (4%-24%) in adults. Overall, our results suggest that cohorts of children might be better suited for genetic studies of grip strength, possibly due to the shorter exposure to confounding environmental factors compared with adults.

Poultry meat, particularly Peking ducks, holds a significant global market share, prized for their high meat yield and fat content. However, understanding of the molecular genetic mechanisms influencing carcass yield in ducks is limited. This research aims to use genome-wide association analysis to uncover single-nucleotide polymorphisms influencing carcass yield in Peking ducks, followed by identifying candidate genes linked to carcass traits. In this study, we analyzed seven traits of 643 Peking ducks at age 42 days and identified novel loci associated with these traits. A total of 35 significant loci were detected, with eight SNPs reaching genome-wide significance. KIF20B, AGBL5, SGSM1, MRO, PLAG1, XKR4, and TGS1 were considered as important candidate genes influencing carcass yield in ducks. This study adds to the list of genes affecting Peking duck body traits, aiding marker-assisted breeding and enhancing economic yield.

Past longitudinal research has demonstrated links between parenting behaviors and adolescent conduct problems (CP) and callous-unemotional (CU) traits on macro timescales (e.g., years). Less is known about daily fluctuations in parenting behaviors and adolescent CP and CU traits, as well as their daily associations on a micro timescale. This study investigated the daily reciprocal associations between three key dimensions of parenting behaviors-parental warmth, inconsistent discipline, and non-harsh discipline-and adolescent CP and CU traits, and explored potential moderating effects of person-mean levels of these parenting behaviors on within-person cross-day links. Participants included an ethnically-racially diverse low risk community sample of 86 adolescents (Mage = 14.5 years, 55% female, 45% non-White) who completed daily reports over 1 month regarding their perceived parenting behaviors and their own levels of CP and CU traits (2056 total observations). Results from dynamic structural equation modeling showed that at the within-person level, higher than average levels of inconsistent discipline were linked to higher than average levels of CU traits the next day. Among adolescents with higher person-mean levels of parental warmth and non-harsh discipline, daily parental warmth and non-harsh discipline were protective against CU traits. Moreover, among adolescents with higher person-mean levels of parental warmth, adolescent CU traits also evoked lower parental warmth the next day. These findings have significant implications for understanding daily fluctuations in parenting behaviors and adolescent CP and CU traits, and inform novel parenting-based interventions that capitalize on recent advances in mobile and other technology.

With the development of wearable devices, it is now possible to monitor livestock behavior 24 h a day. In this study, we estimated the genetic parameters of the daily duration of six behaviors (feeding, moving, lying, standing, ruminating while lying, and ruminating while standing) in beef cattle, automatically classified using wearable devices. The devices were attached to 332 Japanese beef cattle at two stations for approximately 5 months. We compared repeatability, Poisson regression, and random regression models using the deviance information criterion. Poisson regression models were selected for all traits at each station, probably because of the non-normal distribution of the phenotypes. The heritability estimates by the Poisson regression models were moderate at each station: 0.67 and 0.68 for feeding, 0.68 and 0.53 for moving, 0.47 and 0.55 for lying, 0.45 and 0.40 for standing, 0.51 and 0.59 for ruminating while lying, and 0.37 and 0.45 for ruminating while standing. The genetic correlations between these traits were all negative at both stations, whereas the residual correlations showed different directions depending on the station. Although validation studies with larger populations are needed to confirm these findings, this study provides fundamental knowledge of the genetic basis of daily behavior in beef cattle.

Schizotypal traits (i.e., personality characteristics that range from mild eccentricities to more pronounced schizophrenia-like perceptions, thought patterns, and behaviours) have been associated with a variety of cognitive impairments, including difficulties in language processing. Although these difficulties span several aspects of language (e.g., semantic processing, verbal fluency, visual word recognition), it is unclear whether reading abilities are also affected. Thus, the current study employed the Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire (SPQ) - Brief (Raine and Benishay, 1995) to examine how schizotypal traits impact both word-level and text-level reading skills (using a battery of standardized assessments) in a sample of healthy young adults. We found some evidence that higher schizotypal traits, specifically, increased Disorganized factor scores (reflecting aberrant thinking, communication patterns, and behaviour), were associated with reduced word-level reading abilities. However, this finding did not remain significant after correcting for multiple comparisons. Overall, our study suggests that reading may be another aspect of language affected by schizotypal traits, although additional research (with greater power) is needed to further explore and confirm this finding.

Carbon ion beam irradiation (CIBI) is a highly efficient mutagenesis for generating mutations that can be used to expand germplasm resources and create superior new germplasm. The study investigated the effects of different doses of CIBI (50 Gy, 100 Gy, 150 Gy, 200 Gy and 300 Gy) on seed germination and seedling survival, seedling morphological and physiological traits of an elite centipedegrass cultivar Ganbei. The results showed that irradiation greater than 50 Gy cause inhibition of seed germination, and the semi-lethal dose (LD50) is around 90 Gy for CIBI treated seeds of Ganbei. A carbon ion beam-mutagenized centipedegrass population was generated from Ganbei, with irradiation dosages from 50 Gy to 200 Gy. More than ten types of phenotypic variations and novel mutants with heritable tendencies mainly including putative mutants of stolon number, length and diameter, of internode length, of leaf length and width, of leaf chlorophyll content, of stolon growth rate, of aboveground tissue dry weight, of sward height were identified. While the total sugar content of the plants from irradiated seeds showed no obvious change in all treatments as compared to the control, the crude protein content displayed significant reduction at a high-dose treatment of 200 Gy. Genetic polymorphism was detected in mutagenized centipedegrass population using SSR-PCR analysis, suggesting that CIBI caused alteration of larger fragments of the DNA sequence. As a result, a preliminary batch of mutants was screened in this study. In summary, carbon ion beam mutagenesis is an effective way for developing centipedegrass germplasm with wider variation, and treating seeds with CIBI at a dosage of ~100 Gy could be effective in centipedegrass mutation breeding.

OBJECTIVE: Personal values and personality traits are both important aspects of personality, but much is still unknown about the fundamental differences between the constructs, including how their patterns of temporal stability compare. This paper investigated patterns of intra-individual stability in both values and traits. METHOD: Quantile correlations were estimated between each of the 20 refined personal values and the same values 2 years later in a large longitudinal sample of Australian adults (N = 2875). The same was done for each of the 15 Five-Factor Model trait facets in a subsample of these participants (n = 2424). RESULTS: It was observed that more important values tended to remain more stable over time, while traits retained a similar stability regardless of trait strength, and frequently showed small decreases in stability at extreme levels. CONCLUSIONS: Findings indicate that highly prioritized values may be a more central aspect of the self, and a more reliable element for predicting future outcomes, than less highly prioritized values, but in contrast, traits do not function in a way that is dependent on trait strength.

Aboveground and belowground attributes of terrestrial ecosystems interact to shape carbon (C) cycling. However, plants and soil organisms are usually studied separately, leading to a knowledge gap regarding their coordinated contributions to ecosystem C cycling. We explored whether integrated consideration of plant and nematode traits better explained soil organic C (SOC) dynamics than plant or nematode traits considered separately. Our study system was a space-for-time natural restoration chronosequence following agricultural abandonment in a subtropical region, with pioneer, early, mid and climax stages. We identified an integrated fast-slow trait spectrum encompassing plants and nematodes, demonstrating coordinated shifts from fast strategies in the pioneer stage to slow strategies in the climax stage, corresponding to enhanced SOC dynamics. Joint consideration of plant and nematode traits explained more variation in SOC than by either group alone. Structural equation modeling revealed that the integrated fast-slow trait spectrum influenced SOC through its regulation of microbial traits, including microbial C use efficiency and microbial biomass. Our findings confirm the pivotal role of plant-nematode trait coordination in modulating ecosystem C cycling and highlight the value of incorporating belowground traits into biogeochemical cycling under global change scenarios.

PURPOSE: Previous studies have identified associations between immune cell traits and endometriosis, but the causality of these relationships remains uncertain. In this study, we utilized Mendelian randomization (MR) to investigate the causal relationship between immune cell traits and endometriosis for the first time. METHODS: Seven hundred and thirty-one immune cell signatures associated with single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were extracted from a published genome-wide association study (GWAS) involving 472 174 individuals, while endometriosis data, including four stages and seven subtypes, were obtained from the FinnGen consortium. Four methods were used for MR. The causal effect of immune cell traits on endometriosis was explored after Bonferroni correction. RESULTS: Significant causal relationship included 92 immune cell traits distributed among B cell (28 cells), cDC (2 cells), maturation stages of T cell (10 cells), monocyte (12 cells), Myeloid cell (5 cells), TBNK (13 cells), and Treg panels (22 cells). One of the most significant findings is that for every 1-standard deviation (SD) increase in CD8 on Central Memory CD8+ T cell, the risks of developing endometriosis of the fallopian tube increased by 72%. In the reverse MR analysis, a one-unit increase in the log odds of endometriosis of the ovary risk corresponded to a decrease in the absolute count of CD4+ CD8dim T cell by 0.10. CONCLUSION: This study represents the first comprehensive evaluation of the causal effects of immune cell traits on the risk/protection of different stages/subtypes of endometriosis. The findings highlight the complex and significant role of immune-derived factors in the pathogenesis of the disease.

BACKGROUND: Doujin (どうじん) is a Japanese term referring to a circle where people share the same interests, usually something that belongs to the Anime, Comics, and Games (ACG) subculture. Individuals who belong to it and create related works, known as ACG doujin creators, are usually described as socially awkward and at potential risk of isolation. In such a context, they may theoretically exhibit higher autistic traits and manifest camouflaging tendencies, which may consequently be associated with their mental health. Nonetheless, the impact of autistic traits and camouflaging on mental health in this subculture remains significantly underexplored. METHODS: We recruited 183 Taiwanese ACG doujin creators (age ranges from 18 to 41, 146 female and 37 male) via social networking platforms. Participants completed Chinese online surveys assessing socio-demographic information, doujin activities, past psychiatric history, the 35-item Version of Autism-Spectrum Quotient (AQ-35), Chinese version Camouflaging Autistic Traits Questionnaire (CAT-Q-Ch), the General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). Linear regression analysis was employed to examine the associations between the aforementioned scales. RESULTS: Our findings revealed that among ACG doujin creators, descriptively higher level of AQ-35 and CAT-Q-Ch than previous studies were found. Moreover, we observed a positive association between camouflaging behaviours and most AQ-35 subscales, with the exception of the mindreading subscale. Additionally, we identified that both camouflaging and autistic traits were significantly linked to higher PHQ-9 and GAD-7 scores. CONCLUSIONS: Through this study, we gained insight into the distinctive characteristics of autistic traits, camouflaging behaviours, and mental health among Taiwanese ACG doujin creators, as the associations between the factors mentioned above are divergent compared to previous research. This topic demonstrated that camouflaging is also associated with adverse mental health in a subculture group.
