RESUMO

In this study, nanofibrous polymeric matrices were successfully developed with nanoclay, montmorillonite (MMT) and various boron (B) compounds, which were known to have positive effects on the wound healing with elevated antibacterial properties. For this purpose, MMT was modified with quaternary ammonium salt, trimethyl octadecyl ammonium bromide (TMOD), and boron compounds, boron nitride (BN), zinc borate (ZB), or phenylboronic acid (PBA) were adsorbed on organomodified MMT (OMMT). Then, poly (lactic acid) (PLA) based nanofibrous PLA-OMMT/B composites were fabricated via electrospinning. Modification of MMT nanoparticles with TMOD occurred through ion-exchange reaction and led to better homogenous fibrous structures which exhibited dramatic inhibition for gram-positive bacteria. Moreover, composites with ZB and PBA demonstrated both bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects for gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The chemical structures of the matrices were evaluated through ATR-FTIR and supported the intercalated composite formation. The thermal and mechanical stabilities of PLA matrices were also enhanced after OMMT and B incorporation. The lowest breaking strain value was recorded for PLA-OMMT/PBA composite compared to other B composites. The 100% and 50% extracts of the PLA-OMMT matrices showed modest cytotoxic effect on the human dermal fibroblasts (NHDF) on the second day culture that probably originated from TMOD. These results demonstrated that PLA-OMMT/B matrices, especially PBA including matrices, can be used as replaceable wound dressings that have limited interaction with cells but exhibit antibacterial activity and support the early stages of wound healing both morphologically and chemically.

BACKGROUND: Pregnancy is a very important period in the development of attachment. OBJECTIVE: To determine the correlation between prenatal attachment levels of healthy pregnant women and their styles of coping with stress and those of high-risk pregnant women. METHOD: This descriptive study consisted of 76 women in their third-trimester of pregnancy hospitalised at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology service at a hospital and 210 women in their third-trimester of pregnancy who were experiencing a healthy pregnancy process and admitted to the Gynaecology Outpatient Clinic for pregnancy follow-up. The data were collected with the Personal Information Form, the Prenatal Attachment Inventory and the Stress Coping Styles Scale. RESULTS: There was a statistically significant difference between the prenatal attachment levels of healthy and high-risk pregnant women. There was a positive correlation between the prenatal attachment levels and the self-confident and optimistic approaches among the styles of coping with stress in the healthy and high-risk pregnant women . CONCLUSION: The attachment levels of the high-risk pregnant women were higher than were those of the healthy pregnant women. As the use of the self-confident and optimistic approach styles in coping with stress increases among healthy and high-risk pregnant women, so do their prenatal attachment levels.

RESUMO

A new series of benzimidazole compounds including hydrazinecarbothioamide, 1,2,4-triazole, 1,3,4-oxadiazole and imine function were synthesized starting from 5,6-dichloro-2-cyclopropyl-1H-benzimidazole. All of the benzimidazole derivatives exhibited good urease inhibitor activity. Compound 6a proved to be the most potent showing an enzyme inhibitory activity with an IC50=0.06µM. Molecular docking studies were also conducted on enzyme extracted from Jack bean urease to identify the binding mode of the newly synthesized compounds.
