RESUMO
Retroperitoneal fibrosis is an entity with an unknown cause. It is characterized by symptoms associated with the gradual compression of the retroperitoneal structures. This case report demonstrates the use of Ga-67 imaging in the early noninvasive diagnostic work-up and follow-up evaluation of poststeroid therapy.

Five cases of artifactual In-111 leukocyte pulmonary activity were noted at three local hospitals in a 4-day period. Based on the differences in the preparation of the final indium leukocyte product, the problem could be attributed to the indium oxine reagent in a specific lot. This artifact of multiple small foci of marked increased activity in the lungs (clumping pattern), attributable to the In-111 oxine reagent, has not been described previously.

A case of focal decreased skeletal uptake with In-111 labeled white blood cells representing Paget's disease is reported. Although uncommon, other causes for skeletal photon deficient areas using In-111 white blood cells have been described. To the authors' knowledge, this finding representing Paget's disease has not been previously described.

A rare case of benign cardiac fibroma causing a focal defect on Tl-201 imaging in an adult patient is presented. The abnormalities on the Tl-201 scan are correlated with other studies performed on the same patient. The usefulness of the Tl-201 myocardial perfusion scan as an early, noninvasive test in cardiac workup is stressed.

The most common presentation for carcinoma of the thyroid is as a cold nodule in the thyroid gland. Other appearances for thyroid carcinoma do exist, however; two such examples are presented. Incidence and presentation of thyroid carcinoma is discussed, as are guidelines for detecting patients that have a higher than average incidence of thyroid malignancy.

Renal osteodystrophy, a frequent complication of chronic renal failure, can be recognized and the diagnosis suggested with a fairly high degree of confidence on bone imaging, if one is familiar with common scintigraphic findings. This case report illustrates some of those findings.

An unusual case of uptake of radioisotope by the liver during radioisotope venography/lung imaging with Tc-99m MAA is presented. Abnormalities in venous circulation of the lower extremities and abdomen, perfusion of the lung, and structure of the liver were detected, and correlated with other studies performed on a single patient. The mechanisms of uptake of Tc-99m MAA by the liver are discussed, with special attention paid to the mechanism believed to be present in this case.

We report a case of subclavian steal syndrome diagnosed by radionuclide arteriogram and subsequently confirmed by contrast arteriogram. We suggest that radionuclide arteriogram may sometimes be useful as a screening test.
