RESUMO

The wet-chemical synthesis of 3D confined antimony nanoparticles (Sb-NP) at low and high temperatures is described. Using reaction conditions that are mild in temperature and strong in reducing power allows the synthesis of amorphous Sb-NP stabilized with organic ligands. Exchanging the organic ligand 1-octanethiol by iodide enabled to investigate the unusual strong stability of this metastable material through simultaneous thermal analysis combining differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. Additionally, in situ high temperature powder x-ray diffraction (p-XRD) shows a significant increase in stabilization of the amorphous phase in comparison to thin layered, 1D confined Sb or bulk material. Further, it is shown with scattering-type scanning near-field optical microscopy (s-SNOM) experiments that the optical response of the different phases in Sb-NP make the distinctness of each phase possible. It is proposed that the Sb-NP introduced here can serve as a 3D-confined optically addressable nanomaterial of miniaturized phase change memory devices.

RESUMO

Covellite-phase CuS and carrollite-phase CuCo2S4 nano- and microstructures were synthesized from tetrachloridometallate-based ionic liquid precursors using a novel, facile, and highly controllable hot-injection synthesis strategy. The synthesis parameters including reaction time and temperature were first optimized to produce CuS with a well-controlled and unique morphology, providing the best electrocatalytic activity toward the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). In an extension to this approach, the electrocatalytic activity was further improved by incorporating Co into the CuS synthesis method to yield CuCo2S4 microflowers. Both routes provide high microflower yields of >80 wt %. The CuCo2S4 microflowers exhibit a superior performance for the OER in alkaline medium compared to CuS. This is demonstrated by a lower onset potential (∼1.45 V vs RHE @10 mA/cm2), better durability, and higher turnover frequencies compared to bare CuS flowers or commercial Pt/C and IrO2 electrodes. Likely, this effect is associated with the presence of Co3+ sites on which a better adsorption of reactive species formed during the OER (e.g., OH, O, OOH, etc.) can be achieved, thus reducing the OER charge-transfer resistance, as indicated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements.

RESUMO

Hexagonal p-type semiconductor CuS nanoplates were synthesized via a hot injection method from bis(trimethylsilyl)sulfide and the ionic liquid precursor bis(N-dodecylpyridinium) tetrachloridocuprate(ii). The particles have a broad size distribution with diameters between 30 and 680 nm and well-developed crystal habits. The nanoplates were successfully incorporated into organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells as hole conduction materials. The power conversion efficiency of OPV cells fabricated with the nanoplates is 16% higher than that of a control device fabricated without the nanoplates.

RESUMO

We present an efficient non-enzymatic hydrogen peroxide sensor composed of flower-like silver microstructures. The silver microstructures´ morphology is controlled by adding minute amounts of either succinic or malonic acid as directing agents. Morphologically, silver particles showed ball-like structures in the absence of both directing agents, while the presence of 50 ppm of succinic acid and malonic acid lead to monodisperse chrysanthemum and water-lily flower-like structure, respectively. A higher concentration of succinic acid resulted in a rose flower-like structures. Electrochemically, the rose flower-like silver microstructures exhibited the best performance for H2O2 detection as evaluated by their outstanding electrocatalytic activity (12 times higher) and sensitivity (2.4 mM-1 cm-2, 24 times higher) with lower detection limit (0.4 µM, 5 times smaller) together with their excellent H2O2 selectivity compared to that of the ball-shaped structures. Additionally, rose-flower microstructures exhibited excellent long-term stability; 11 and 3 times higher compared to ball- and water-lily structures, respectively. This substantial performance enhancement is attributed to their unique flower-like structure providing a higher number of active surface sites (at least 8 times higher) and a faster detachment rate of in-situ generated oxygen bubbles from their surface.
