INTRODUCTION: The success rates of NS-ReTx have varied across decades of prior research. Nonetheless, recent endodontic advances have substantially enhanced case management. This systematic review aimed to identify rigorous studies on contemporary NS-ReTx, investigating both periapical healing-evaluated strictly for complete resolution or loosely for size reduction of periapical radiolucency-and success, denoting clinical normalcy combined with periapical healing. METHODS: We systematically searched MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, and gray literature from January 1988 to December 2022. Article selection and data extraction were independently conducted by 3 reviewers. Selected studies underwent risk of bias assessment, and evidence quality using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach. Meta-analysis and meta-regression established pooled outcome rates, 95% confidence intervals (CIs), and significant clinical prognostic factors (P < .05). RESULTS: Twenty-nine articles were included. Pooled periapical healing rates using strict and loose criteria were 78.8% (95% CI: 75.2-82.4) and 87.5% (95% CI: 83.8-91.2), respectively. Pooled success rates using strict and loose criteria were 78.0% (95% CI: 74.9-81.2) and 86.4% (95% CI: 82.6-90.1), respectively. Meta-regression analyses revealed significant influences on NS-ReTx outcomes (P < .05), including periapical status, lesion size, apical root filling extent, and follow-up duration. CONCLUSIONS: Contemporary NS-ReTx shows encouraging outcomes, achieving periapical healing and success rates ranging from approximately 78% (strict criteria) to 87% (loose criteria). The absence of or smaller preoperative lesions, adequate root filling length, and extended follow-ups significantly improve NS-ReTx outcomes. Integrating these factors into treatment planning is pivotal for optimizing the outcome of NS-ReTx.

Acinetobacter baumannii is an important human pathogen responsible for a various type of infections. These bacterial strains are generally resistant to numerous antibiotics. Therefore, eradication of such strains is problematic and related to high mortality. We investigated the effect of cyanide 3-chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP) efflux pump inhibitor in tigecycline-resistant strains of Acinetobacter baumannii. In a cross-sectional study, from July until the end of February 2017, eighty isolates of A. baumannii were recovered. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing against tigecycline was performed by the disc diffusion method and determination of minimum inhibitory concentration by broth microdilution method, according to Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines. Active efflux pumps were detected by CCCP as an efflux pumps inhibitor, and the gene expression of some of the resistance/nodulation/division (RND)-type efflux pumps was measured by semiquantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR). Antibiotic susceptibility tests in this study showed that 78 of 80 A. baumannii isolates were resistant to tigecycline. The results of phenotypic detection of efflux pumps revealed that 23.07% of tigecycline-resistant A. baumannii isolates can contain active efflux pumps. On the basis of conventional PCR, genes coding for adeF and adeJ were detected in 76 (98%) A. baumannii isolates. The results of qRT-PCR showed that the transcript level of the adeJ gene increased in 66.6% A. baumannii isolates with CCCP-positive tests and was correlated with tigecycline resistance. The results of this study indicate that RND-type efflux pumps appear to play a significant role in the tigecycline resistance of A. baumannii.

Selecting a suitable Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) method is a crucial stage to establish a Solid Waste Management (SWM) system. Main objective of the current study is to demonstrate and evaluate a proposed method using Multiple Criteria Decision Making methods (MCDM). An improved version of Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) applied to obtain the best municipal solid waste management method by comparing and ranking the scenarios. Applying this method in order to rank treatment methods is introduced as one contribution of the study. Besides, Viekriterijumsko Kompromisno Rangiranje (VIKOR) compromise solution method applied for sensitivity analyses. The proposed method can assist urban decision makers in prioritizing and selecting an optimized Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) treatment system. Besides, a logical and systematic scientific method was proposed to guide an appropriate decision-making. A modified TOPSIS methodology as a superior to existing methods for first time was applied for MSW problems. Applying this method in order to rank treatment methods is introduced as one contribution of the study. Next, 11 scenarios of MSW treatment methods are defined and compared environmentally and economically based on the waste management conditions. Results show that integrating a sanitary landfill (18.1%), RDF (3.1%), composting (2%), anaerobic digestion (40.4%), and recycling (36.4%) was an optimized model of integrated waste management. An applied decision-making structure provides the opportunity for optimum decision-making. Therefore, the mix of recycling and anaerobic digestion and a sanitary landfill with Electricity Production (EP) are the preferred options for MSW management.
