RESUMO

Acute leukemia is rare during pregnancy, affects about 1 in 75,000 pregnancies, of all leukemias diagnosed only 28% are acute lymphoblastic leukemia, this is a risk factor to develop spontaneous tumor lysis syndrome, it's a oncologic complication potentially deadly if the prophylactic treatment its avoided. Cases of acute lymphoblastic leukemia associated with pregnancy has been poorly documented in the literature the association of these two entities to pregnancy is the first report published worldwide, so the information is limited.

RESUMO

High-resolution photoelectron spectra of the gas phase pyrimidine-type nucleobases, thymine, uracil, and cytosine, were collected using synchrotron radiation over the photon energy range 17 ≤ hν ≤ 150 eV. These data provide the highest resolution photoelectron spectra of thymine, uracil, and cytosine published to date. By comparing integrated regions of the energy dependent photoelectron spectra of thymine, the ionization potentials of the first four ionic states of thymine were estimated to be 8.8, 9.8, 10.3, and 10.8 eV. The thymine data also show evidence for low energy shape resonances in three of the outermost valence electronic states. Comparing the uracil spectrum with the thymine spectrum, the four outermost valence electronic states of uracil likely begin at binding energies 9.3, 9.9, 10.5, and 11.0 eV. High-resolution spectra indicate only one tautomeric form of cytosine contributes significantly to the spectrum with the four outermost valence electronic states beginning at binding energies 8.9, 9.9, 10.4, and 10.85 eV.

RESUMO

The vibrational branching ratios in the photoionization of acrolein for ionization leading to the X̃²A' ion state were studied. Computed logarithmic derivatives of the cross section and the corresponding experimental data derived from measured vibrational branching ratios for several normal modes (ν9, ν10, ν11, and ν12) were found to be in relatively good agreement, particularly for the lower half of the 11-100 eV photon energy range considered. Two shape resonances have been found near photon energies of 15.5 and 23 eV in the photoionization cross section and have been demonstrated to originate from the partial cross section of the A' scattering symmetry. The wave functions computed at the resonance complex energies are delocalized over the whole molecule. By looking at the dependence of the cross section on the different normal mode displacements together with the wave function at the resonant energy, a qualitative explanation is given for the change of the cross sections with respect to changing geometry.

RESUMO

The authors studied, prospectively, 102 cases of calcifying chronic pancreatitis in Goiânia, GO, Brazil, from 1985 to 1996. Alcohol was the major cause of calcifying chronic pancreatitis, responsible for 94.1% of the cases. In others 5.9% of the cases, not associated with alcohol, the etiologic diagnosis could not be confirmed. The average age of the patients was 39.8 +/- 9.8 years, and the first symptoms appeared with the average age of male sex in the proportion of 9.2/1. The average of alcoholic beverage ingested was 258 +/- 187.1 g/day of ethanol through an average period of 17.5 +/- years. The major complications found were: chronic diarrhea (malabsorption), pleural effusion, cysts, diabetes mellitus, jaundice and digestive hemorrhage. This study, when compared to others from other Brazilian cities, suggests that there are differences in the natural history of calcifying chronic pancreatitis among several regions of Brazil.

RESUMO

Effects of daily sometribove administration on milk yield and composition, body condition score, BW, and SCC were evaluated in Holstein cows milked three times daily. Lactating cows (n =104) were assigned randomly to control or sometribove-treated (25 mg/d) groups. The experimental period was 16 wk, consisting of 2-wk pretreatment, 12-wk treatment, and 2-wk posttreatment periods. All cows were injected once daily starting at 53 to 180 d postpartum, housed in free stalls, and fed one of five total mixed rations according to milk production. Body weights were measured weekly, and body condition was scored biweekly. Milk yield was recorded daily, and weekly milk samples were analyzed for fat, protein, lactose, total solids, and SCC. Milk yield and milk protein were increased 18.8% (38.6 vs. 32.5 kg/d) and 3.3% (3.1 vs. 3.0%), respectively, whereas percentage of milk fat, lactose, SNF, SCC, and BW were unaffected by treatment. Overall average body condition scores were lower for the sometribove-treated group versus control (2.2 vs. 2.4). No apparent differences in the number of cows treated for mastitis, foot rot, displaced abomasum, or lameness were observed between treatment groups. Sometribove treatment significantly enhanced milk yield (6.1 kg/d) with no apparent negative effects on health in high producing cows milked three times per day.

RESUMO

Experiments were conducted to determine digestibility of wet corn gluten feed in sheep and effect of wet corn gluten feed on DM intake, milk production, and milk composition by dairy cows. In Trial 1, six wethers were fed wet corn gluten feed at maintenance and ad libitum for determination of nutrient digestibility by the conventional 7-d total collection technique. The sheep ate 1.32 times maintenance at ad libitum intake and no significant differences were found in digestibility due to intake. Digestibilities of DM, organic matter, energy, CP, ether extract, ADF, NDF, and hemicellulose averaged 70.3, 73.0, 73.7, 78.3, 72.8, 51.4, 58.1, and 60.4%, respectively. Mean total digestible nutrients for both treatments was 70.3. In Trial 2, 12 Holstein cows in mid to late lactation were allotted to a 4 x 4 Latin square design. Cows were fed a total mixed ration twice daily. Wet corn gluten feed was fed at 0 (control), 10, 20, and 30% of the total ration DM. There were no significant treatment effects on DM intake, milk yield, or milk composition. Dry matter intake (kg/d), milk production (kg/d), and percent milk fat were 21.4, 22.9, and 3.71, respectively, for control; 21.4, 23.0, and 3.80 for the 10%; 21.0, 23.1, and 3.71 for the 20%; and 21.0, 23.2, and 3.89 for the 30% wet corn gluten feed.
