RESUMO

Purpose: Doogh is a famous Iranian drink based on fermented milk. Laminated film is one of the most common packaging for this beverage in Iran. So, chemical substances of the packaging may migrate to the Doogh and endanger human health. Method: In this research, High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) was used to determine the migration of Irganox 1010 and Irganox 1076 from the contact layer and inductively coupled plasma for Titanium dioxide (TiO2) from the second layer of three-layer laminate films into Doogh and acetic acid 3% (w/v). The influence of different storage temperatures and times was investigated by evaluating the samples stored in various conditions. The morphological, thermal and mechanical properties of the film, before and after contact with food simulant were further studied. Result: The highest amount of Irganox 1010 concentration of the tested samples were 0.8 ± 0.04 mg/l in acetic acid 3% (w/v), and 0.62 ± 0.04 mg/l in Doogh. The highest amount of TiO2 concentration were 0.25 ± 0.04 mg/l in acetic acid 3% (w/v), and 0.12 ± 0.02 mg/l in Doogh. The migration of Irganox 1076 was determined, but it was not detected. The results indicated that the food simulant had no significant effect on the microstructure and thermal properties of the polymer, but it reduced the mechanical properties. Conclusion: The results indicate the possible migrating of Irganox 1010 and TiO2 through laminate packaging into Doogh in some storage conditions. Since the migration value was low, the mentioned film was proven safe for Doogh packaging, imposing no hazards on human health.

RESUMO

In the present study, the occurrence and characterization of microplastics (MPs) content in the fishes of the river was studied. Therefore, six sampling stations were considered for fishing. Then, the entire stomach of fishes was investigated by visual stereomicroscope, FTIR, SEM, and EDX to analyze the content of the samples, by MPs type, shape, color, and size. The most frequency of MPs was observed in Ghazanchi (Siii) and Kermanshah (Siv) stations which were close to urban and industrial areas. Most types of detected MPs included polystyrene, polyethylene, and nylon with the highest frequency observed in Luciobarbus caspius and Alburnus chalcoides fishes. Overall, the frequency of detected MPs in the caught fishes was 93.8%. Indeed, MPs with a size of 0.025-1 mm (25-1000 µm) were the most frequency of MPs in fishes. The frequency of MPs shapes was fiber (85.12%), fragment (12.32%), foam (0.77%), film (1.21%), and microbead (0.56%), respectively. The highest and lowest percentage of MPs belonged to black and green with an abundance of 63% and 2%, respectively. The result implies that lots of riverine fishes are polluted with MPs, those which can move into the food chain.

RESUMO

This study investigated the effect of chitosan coating, nanopackaging, and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) to increase the shelf life and improve the quality of the white button mushroom. Uncoated and coated button mushrooms were stacked in three types of packages (normal, nano, and nano + MAP). The atmosphere inside the nano + MAP packages contained 10% oxygen and 10% carbon dioxide. The physical, chemical, mechanical properties and the evolution of oxygen and carbon dioxide inside the packages were investigated. The results showed that the triple interaction had significant effect (at 1% and 5% levels) on physical, mechanical properties and gas composition. The use of nanofilm (due to the low permeability to oxygen and carbon dioxide), as well as the modification of atmosphere had a positive effect on the control of mushroom respiration rate and the improvement in its physical, chemical, and mechanical properties.
