RESUMO

Using retrograde axonal transport of horseradish peroxidase, studies have been made on the thalamic projections in the anterior and posterior parts of the limbic cortex with special reference to exterosensory system projections (visual, auditory and somatic). Projections of the retinorecipient nuclei of the anterior hypothalamus and classic thalamic visual relays (n. geniculatus lateralis dorsalis, n. lateralis posterior, pretectum) were found in the anterior and posterior limbic cortex. There are also inputs from the thalamic relays of the auditory (n. geniculatus medialis) and somatic (n. ventralis posterior) systems in the posterior limbic cortex The data obtained indicate: 1) that sensory supply of the limbic cortex in rats may be realized via direct pathways from sensory thalamic relays; 2) that thalamic sensory supply of the anterior limbic cortex differs from that of the posterior one. In the former, projections of the thalamic relays of the visual, auditory and somatic systems were found, whereas in the posterior cortex only visual system is presented. Topographic organization of the thalamic nuclear areas sending afferents to the anterior limbic cortex differs from that of the posterior limbic cortex.

RESUMO

The sources of afferents to the rostral field CA3 of the dorsal hippocampus in rat were revealed with the help of HRP retrograde transport. After ionophoretic injections of HRP into the above mentioned region of the hippocampus labelled cells were found in the anterodorsal, anteroventral, anteromedial and anterolateral nuclei of thalamus; in the supramammillar and submammillothalamic nuclei of hypothalamus: in stratum griseum centralis of the optic tectum; in the parietal, insular, temporal, retrosplenial and pyriform areas of the neocortex.

RESUMO

The connections of the retrosplenial field of the limbic cortex and hippocampal formation in the rat were studied by the horseradish peroxidase method. After dry horseradish peroxidase application into dorsocaudal part of the retrosplenial cortex labelled cells were found in the rostral pole of the hippocampal field Ca3 and in the presubiculum. After ionophoretic injection of HRP into the rostral pole of the hippocamp labelled cells were found in the layers V and VI of the retrosplenial field of the limbic cortex and in the prosubiculum. The data obtained show reciprocal direct connections between the rostral pole of the hippocamp and retrosplenial field of the limbic cortex, as well as direct efferent projections of the dorsal subiculum to the rostral pole of the hippocamp.

RESUMO

The afferent connections of the retrosplenial field of the limbic cortex were studied in rats using the horseradish peroxidase method. The dry horseradish peroxidase was injected to the cortical surface in field 29. The HRP labelled cells were found in the dorsal part of the lateral geniculate body, nucleus lateralis posterior, in the pretectal and anterodorsalis nuclei. The connections of field 29 with fields 17 and 18 of the cortical visual areas and with contralateral field 29 were also revealed. According to the data obtained all principal thalamic structures project directly to the retrosplenial cortex.

RESUMO

After bilateral lesion of the posterior lateral thalamic nucleus in rats, studies been made of motor-feeding reflexes to light stimuli. Using spatial preference technique, it was shown that lesion of this nucleus (representing a part of the retino-tecto-thalamo-cortical system) disturbs differentiation of spatially uncoupled visual stimuli. These data confirm the idea on telencephalization of ancient retino-tectal part of the visual system in evolution and indicate that this part is involved into the analysis of spatial relationships.
