RESUMO

Cancer incidences are rising each year. In 2020, approximately 20 million new cancer cases and 10 million cancer-related deaths were recorded. The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that by 2024 the incidence of cancer will increase to 30.2 million individuals annually. Considering the invasive characteristics of its diagnostic procedures and therapeutic methods side effects, scientists are searching for different solutions, including using plant-derived bioactive compounds, that could reduce the probability of cancer occurrence and make its treatment more comfortable. In this regard, oridonin (ORI), an ent-kaurane diterpenoid, naturally found in the leaves of Rabdosia rubescens species, has been found to have antitumor, antiangiogenesis, antiasthmatic, antiinflammatory, and apoptosis induction properties. Extensive research has been performed on ORI to find various mechanisms involved in its anticancer activities. This review article provides an overview of ORI's effectiveness on murine and human cancer populations from 1976 to 2022 and provides insight into the future application of ORI in different cancer therapies.

RESUMO

Guava fruits have a short shelf life due to climacteric nature. The current work was conducted to extend the shelf life of guavas with garlic extract (GRE), ginger extract (GNE), gum arabic (GA), and Aloe vera (AV) gel coatings. After coating, fruits of guava were stored at 25 ± 3 °C and RH 85 ± 2% for 15 days. Results showed that guavas treated with plant-based edible coatings and extracts had lower weight loss than that of the control. GRE-treated guavas had the maximum shelf life in contrast to all other treatments including the control. GNE-treated guavas showed the lowest nonreducing sugar content, whereas they had higher antioxidant activity, vitamin C content, and total phenolics compared with all other coating treatments. After the control, antioxidant capacity was the highest in GNE- and GRE-treated fruits. On the other hand, GA-treated guavas had reduced total soluble solids and juice pH (more acidic) and exhibited higher total flavonoids compared with the control, while both GA- and GNE-treated guavas had the highest flavonoid content. GRE-treated fruits exhibited the highest total sugar content and taste and aroma scores. In conclusion, GRE treatment was more effective in conserving the quality and extending the shelf life of guava fruits.

RESUMO

Environment-friendly textile processing is the demand of the current global scenario, where the application of sustainable technologies such as microwave radiation has been gaining fame in all global fields due to their green and human-friendly nature. This study has been conducted to employ sustainable technology such as microwave (MW) rays for dyeing polyamide-based proteinous fabric using Acid Blue 07 dye. The fabric before and after MW treatment for up to 10 min has been dyed using an acid dye solution. Spectrophotometric analysis of the dye solution was performed before and after irradiation at a specific selected level. Using selected dyes and irradiation conditions, a series of 32 experiments using a central composite design has been employed. The shades made at selected conditions of irradiation and dyeing were assessed for colorfastness as per ISO standards. It was observed that for dyeing silk, 55 mL of Acid Blue 07 dye solution containing 1 g/100 mL salt solution at 65 °C for 55 min should be employed after MW treatment for 10 min. In comparison, for dyeing wool, 55 mL of Acid Blue 07 dye solution containing 2 g/100 mL salt solution at 65 °C for 55 min should be employed after MW treatment for 10 min. Physiochemical analysis shows that sustainable tool has not altered the chemical nature of fabric but has modified the fabric surface physically to enhance uptake ability. Colorfastness shows that the shades made have offered good resistance to fade and have given good to excellent ratings on the gray scale.
