RESUMO

A hitherto unreported duplication of the parotid duct in a 63-year-old man is reported. The ducts were found in the right cheek during cadaver dissection. The surrounding connective tissue of the ducts was removed and a photograph was taken. These two parotid ducts were then removed and fixed in a 10% formalin solution, embedded in paraffin blocks and the sections stained with hematoxylin eosin. The histologic findings showed that both had the normal ductal columnar epithelium. There was only one parotid duct in the left cheek.

RESUMO

Anatomical variations of the first extensor compartment of the wrist are important during surgical operations of the wrist with de Quervain's disease. We studied 41 wrists from cadavers (16 whole cadavers and nine forearms) and the wrists of twenty-eight patients with de Quervain's disease to determine the variations of tendons and septa in the first extensor compartment. In 85.4 percent of the wrists from cadavers, the number of the tendons differed from the standard. There was septation in 9.75 percent of the dissected wrists. These anatomic variations are discussed for de Quervain's disease. In twenty-eight patients with de Quervain's disease, septation was found in thirteen patients (46.43%). In 82.14 percent of the wrists from the patients, the number of tendons in the first extensor compartment was more than two.

RESUMO

This investigation was designed to extend our present knowledge of the origin of the anterior spinal a. and is based on 80 brains of human cadavers. The anterior spinal a. is usually formed rostrally by the union of the anterior spinal branches from the intracranial segments of the vertebral aa. In this study, we observed three different locations of the origin of the anterior spinal a. Each type has different characteristics. A bilateral origin (type I) was present in 60 specimens (75%). This type could be further subdivided according to the caliber of the arteries, into the following subtypes: "balanced" (type Ia 42.5%), right-dominated (type Ib 17.5%), and left-dominated (type Ic 15%). A unilateral origin (type II) was found in 9 specimens (11.3%), and an origin in an intervertebral transverse anastomosis was demonstrated in 11 (13.8%). In all cases, the anterior spinal a. had an average caliber of 1.145 +/- 0.12 mm.
