RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and reverse phase highperformance liquid chromatography, RP-HPLC analysis have been used for the quantitative determination of local l commercially available Pitavastatin products. METHODS: The FTIR method of analysis is not widely used in pharmaceutical quality control laboratories. This technique is non-destructive, reliable, precise, and efficient, and the samples can be prepared easily. These features emphasized that the FTIR technique can be considered as a potential analytical method for quantitative analysis in pharmaceutical laboratories. RESULTS: It is strongly recommended that FTIR analytical method can be applied simultaneously with RP-HPLC techniques for quality control purposes of drug analysis. Both methods of analysis have shown comparable precision and good repeatability and reproducibility for analysis of Pitavastatin which can be generalized for other pharmaceutical products. CONCLUSION: In addition, FTIR is not only used for the determination of vibrational modes and structure in the fingerprint region, but it can be also generally applied in quantitative analysis for many pharmaceutical products.

RESUMO

Free radicals are generated in our body by several systems. A balance among free radicals and antioxidants is an important matter for appropriate physiological function. If free radicals become greater than the ability of the body to control them, a case known as oxidative stress appears, as a result of that, a number of human diseases spread in the body. Antioxidants can contribute to facingthis oxidative stress. The present review provides a brief overview of free radicals, oxidative stress, some natural antioxidants and the relationship between them.

Stereochemistry has occupied a great role in the manufacture and development of pharmaceuticals. Chiral properties play an important role in the determination of pharmacological actions of the drug. In recent years, there is a considerable interest in chiral separation to isolate and examine both enantiomers. This article provides an overview about the stereochemistry and its role in drugs, and also, offers approved isolation methods for enantiomeric pairs.

RESUMO

For many years, colchicine has been used for therapeutic purposes and has been given considerable attention because of its association with tubulin and inhibition of small tubular polymerization. Colchicine is an alkaloid extracted from the colchicum autumnale plant, having molecular formula C22H25NO6, and consists of three rings. Many studies are concerned with structural changes in order to increase their pharmacological effectiveness and reduce the side effects of toxicity arising from it. The therapeutic use of colchicine has been mainly documented in Gout, Familial Mediterranean Fever, and many other diseases such as atrial fibrillation. This review summarizes the history of chemical structure of colchicine and presents some of its analogues. Furthermore, it shows binding mechanism with target protein when colchicine is used as a therapeutic drug, and gives a light spot on some studies that discuss the safe use of colchicine.
