Background and Objectives: Robotics is commonly used in the rehabilitation of neuro-musculoskeletal injuries and diseases. While in these conditions, robotics has clear benefits, it is unknown whether robotics will also enhance the outcome of cardiac rehabilitation. This systematic review evaluates the use of robotics in cardiac rehabilitation. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted using PubMed (MEDLINE), CINAHL, AMED, SPORTDiscus, and the Physiotherapy Evidence Database. Longitudinal interventional studies were included if they met specified criteria. Two reviewers independently conducted title, abstract, and full-text screening and data extraction. The quality assessment and risk of bias were conducted according to the PEDRO scale and Cochrane Risk of Bias tool 2, respectively. Results: Four trials were included in this review out of 60 screened studies. The quality of the included studies was good with a low risk of bias. The trials used different robotic systems: Lokomat® system, Motomed Letto/Thera Trainer tigo, BEAR, and Myosuit. It was found that interventions that included the use of robotic assistance technologies improved the exercise capacity, VO2 max/peak, left ventricular ejection fraction, QOL, and physical functioning in people with cardiac diseases. Conclusions: Robotic assistance technologies can be used in cardiac rehabilitation programs. Further studies are needed to confirm the results and determine whether the use of robotics enhances intervention outcomes above standard interventions.

Purpose: Parasitic infections are a primary cause of illness worldwide and a public health problem. This study highlighted the prevalence of intestinal parasitic (IP) infections and their updated epidemiologic status from 2019 to 2023 at King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Patients and Methods: A retrospective study was conducted from 2019 to 2023 at King Abdulaziz University Hospital. The laboratory results, socio-demographic information, and the year of data collection were collected from the hospital's parasitology laboratory. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 26. Ethical approval was obtained from the National Committee of Bioethics (NCBE) - King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology, with an approval number of 258-22. Results: During the study period, 7673 stool samples were requested for intestinal parasite examination. The prevalence of IP infection from 2019 to 2023 was 212/7673, with a percentage of 2.8%. Infected patients had a mean (SD) age of 37.68 (17.27) years. Most infected patients were females (61%) and from Saudi Arabia (37.1%). Most stool samples were brown (79.1%), and about half were soft (51.7%). 2019 had the highest number of infected cases (28.3%), while the number of cases decreased in 2023 (8.8%), the lowest during five years. The most predominant parasite among study subjects was Blastocystis hominis (48.11%). Conclusion: The prevalence of IP infection is lower than in previous comparable surveys. Maintaining personal hygiene, conducting epidemiological surveillance, and enhancing environmental sanitation can prevent and control infections.

Introduction: The thulium fiber laser (TFL) generates a focused beam, which can be transmitted to laser fibers with small core diameters and may facilitate in situ lower-pole lithotripsy. This study compares lithotripsy performance of the 150 and 200 µm TFL in a lower pole benchtop kidney model. Materials and Methods: Using a 3D model printed from an actual kidney, in situ laser lithotripsy was performed on 1 cm lower-pole BegoStones (calcium oxalate monohydrate consistency) using four different settings (all 20W) and two fiber sizes (150 and 200 µm). Procedure time, laser time, total pulse energy, and fiber stripping were compared between the two fibers using an ANOVA or independent t-test. Results: The 150 µm fiber at 0.2 J × 100 Hz had the shortest lasing and procedure time (17.3 and 18.5 minutes) and lowest total pulse energy (20.75 kJ) compared with other study arms (p < 0.001). Overall procedure time, lasing time, and total pulse energy were significantly different between the 8 settings (p < 0.001 for all). At higher frequency (100 and 200 Hz), lasing time was significantly faster compared with 20 and 50 Hz (19.9 vs 27.3 minutes; p < 0.001). Furthermore, the average total procedure time was shorter with 150 µm compared with 200 µm regardless of settings (23.2 vs 29.8 minutes; p < 0.001). Conclusion: The 150 µm fiber results in shorter procedure and lasing time at lower total energy levels during lower-pole in situ lithotripsy. Overall, the fastest setting was 0.2 J and 100 Hz with the 150 µm fiber. Smaller laser fibers can potentially allow more efficient in situ laser lithotripsy with better irrigation and visibility at higher deflection angles.

This study proposes an innovative expert system that uses exclusively EEG signals to diagnose schizophrenia in its early stages. For diagnosing psychiatric/neurological disorders, electroencephalogram (EEG) testing is considered a financially viable, safe, and reliable alternative. Using the reconstructed phase space (RPS) and the continuous wavelet transform, the researchers maximized the differences between the EEG nonstationary signals of normal and schizophrenia individuals, which cannot be observed in the time, frequency, or time-frequency domains. This reveals significant information, highlighting more distinguishable features. Then, a deep learning network was trained to enhance the accuracy of the resulting image classification. The algorithm's efficacy was confirmed through three distinct methods: employing 70% of the dataset for training, 15% for validation, and the remaining 15% for testing. This was followed by a 5-fold cross-validation technique and a leave-one-out classification approach. Each method was iterated 100 times to ascertain the algorithm's robustness. The performance metrics derived from these tests - accuracy, precision, sensitivity, F1 score, Matthews correlation coefficient, and Kappa - indicated remarkable outcomes. The algorithm demonstrated steady performance across all evaluation strategies, underscoring its relevance and reliability. The outcomes validate the system's accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and robustness by showcasing its capability to autonomously differentiate individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia from those in a state of normal health.

Empirical rovibrational energy levels are presented for the third most abundant, asymmetric carbon dioxide isotopologue, 16O12C18O, based on a compiled dataset of experimental rovibrational transitions collected from the literature. The 52 literature sources utilized provide 19,438 measured lines with unique assignments in the wavenumber range of 2-12,676 cm-1. The MARVEL (Measured Active Rotational-Vibrational Energy Levels) protocol, which is built upon the theory of spectroscopic networks, validates the great majority of these transitions and outputs 8786 empirical rovibrational energy levels with an uncertainty estimation based on the experimental uncertainties of the transitions. Issues found in the literature data, such as misassignment of quantum numbers, typographical errors, and misidentifications, are fixed before including them in the final MARVEL dataset and analysis. Comparison of the empirical energy-level data of this study with those in the line lists CDSD-2019 and Ames-2021 shows good overall agreement, significantly better for CDSD-2019; some issues raised by these comparisons are discussed.

Background: Tamoxifen is commonly used in the treatment of hormonal-positive breast cancer. However, 30%-40% of tumors treated with tamoxifen develop resistance; therefore, an important step to overcome this resistance is to understand the underlying molecular and metabolic mechanisms. In the present work, we used metabolic profiling to determine potential biomarkers of tamoxifen resistance, and gene expression levels of enzymes important to these metabolites and then correlated the expression to the survival of patients receiving tamoxifen. Methods: Tamoxifen-resistant cell lines previously developed and characterized in our laboratory were metabolically profiled with nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) using cryogenic probe, and the findings were correlated with the expression of genes that encode the key enzymes of the significant metabolites. Moreover, the effect of significantly altered genes on the overall survival of patients was assessed using the Kaplan-Meier plotter web tool. Results: We observed a significant increase in the levels of glutamine, taurine, glutathione, and xanthine, and a significant decrease in the branched-chain amino acids, valine, and isoleucine, as well as glutamate and cysteine in the tamoxifen-resistant cells compared to tamoxifen sensitive cells. Moreover, xanthine dehydrogenase and glutathione synthase gene expression were downregulated, whereas glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase was upregulated compared to control. Additionally, increased expression of xanthine dehydrogenase was associated with a better outcome for breast cancer patients. Conclusion: Overall, this study sheds light on metabolic pathways that are dysregulated in tamoxifen-resistant cell lines and the potential role of each of these pathways in the development of resistance.

Background Road traffic accidents (RTAs) are considered a major public health threat. The causes of RTAs are multifactorial, comprising both human and non-human factors. RTAs may result not only in detrimental health consequences but also in serious economic burdens. This study aimed to provide a retrospective overview of the health and economic impacts of RTAs in Jordan during the period 2013-2021, including the implemented multisectoral mitigation strategies. Methodology This study presents a retrospective chart review of the traffic reports published by the Public Security Directorate (PSD) in Jordan during the period 2013-2021. The examined variables were the total number of road accidents involving human injuries per year, average road accidents per day, annual deaths, average deaths per day, deaths per 100,000 population, annual number of injuries, average number of injuries per day, severity of human injury, number of registered vehicles, and the annual financial costs. Data were extracted from PSD reports and presented descriptively. Results The number of registered vehicles has risen from 1,263,754 in 2013 to 1,795,215 in 2021 with a 42.1% increase. This was also associated with an increase in the average RTAs per day from 28.0 in 2013 to 30.8 in 2021. The total number of RTAs that involved human injuries during the period 2013-2021 fluctuated with 8,451 in 2020 (lowest) and 11,241 in 2021 (highest). In the same period, annual deaths caused by RTAs peaked in 2013 with 768 deaths (highest) compared to 461 in 2020 (lowest). In the five years from 2017 to 2021, the total financial cost of RTAs in Jordan was nearly 1.561 billion Jordanian Dinars (~2.2 billion U.S. dollars) compared to 1.363 billion Jordanian Dinars (~1.92 billion U.S. dollars) in the five years from 2012 to 2016. Conclusions Targeting human and road infrastructure factors through effective government-society partnerships is crucial in mitigating the health and economic burden of RTAs in Jordan. More strict enforcement of traffic laws, along with incremental increases in the penalties for dangerous traffic violations, and regular road safety campaigns are expected to provide more control over the human factors of RTAs. Further research is needed to evaluate the impact of the recently amended traffic law on the trends of RTAs in the country.

OBJECTIVES: This research aims to investigate the prevalence, epidemiological characteristics, mortality rates, survival rates and the rate of malignancy in patients diagnosed with inflammatory myopathies (IIM) in Oman. METHODS: This is a longitudinal study, that covered a span of 16 years at eight rheumatology centres in Oman. The study included all adults and paediatric patients diagnosed with different types of idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM) and who fulfil either the Bohan classification criteria or the 2017 EULAR/ACR classification criteria. RESULTS: The study included a total of 116 patient with an average age of 38.78 (±17.61 SD) years. The most prevalent form of myositis was found to be dermatomyositis (DM) 48 (41.38%), followed by polymyositis (PM) 36 (31.03%) and juvenile myositis (JDM) 18(15.52%). However, inclusion body myositis and necrotising myopathy were relatively rare conditions. The prevalence rates for DM, PM and JDM were determined as 2.2, 2.2, and 1.14 per 100,000 population respectively. Cardiac complications were observed in 14.66% of cases. Among the individuals studied, a history of malignancy was present in around 1.72% of cases. ANA antibodies were present in 71.55% of the cases, anti-Jo 1 and anti-RNP/SM antibodies were detected in 8.62%, and Anti-Ro antibodies in 24.14%. The overall mortality rate was found to be 6.90% with a rate of 11.1% among JDM cases. The five-year survival rates for PM, DM and JDM were found to be 94.4%, 91.7% and 89.0% respectively. These rates decline over a 10-year period to 67%, 69% and 83.3% respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The study highlights the prevalence, mortality, and survival rates of IIM in Oman. Patients with JDM had a higher mortality rate. This underscores the significance of using novel healthcare strategies to improve clinical outcomes and meet special requirements for this group of patients.

Background and Objectives: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is the third most common cause of death globally. Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) programmes are important to reduce COPD symptoms and improve the quality of life of people with COPD. Digital health interventions have recently been adopted in PR programmes, which allow people with COPD to participate in such programmes with low barriers. The aim of this study is to review and discuss the reported effects of digital health interventions on PR outcomes in people with COPD. Materials and Methods: To achieve the study goals, a systematic literature search was conducted using PubMed (MEDLINE), CINAHL, AMED, SPORTDiscus and the Physiotherapy Evidence Database. Randomised clinical trials (RCTs) were included if they met specified criteria. Two reviewers independently checked titles, abstracts, and performed full-text screening and data extraction. The quality assessment and risk of bias were performed in accordance with the PEDRO scale and Cochrane Risk of Bias tool 2, respectively. Results: Thirteen RCTs were included in this systematic review with 1525 participants with COPD. This systematic review showed the potential positive effect of digital health PR on the exercise capacity-measured by 6- and 12-min walking tests, pulmonary function, dyspnoea and health-related quality of life. There was no evidence for advantages of digital health PR in the improvement of anxiety, depression, and self-efficacy. Conclusions: Digital health PR is more effective than traditional PR in improving the pulmonary and physical outcomes for people with COPD, but there was no difference between the two PR programmes in improving the psychosocial outcomes. The certainty of the findings of this review is affected by the small number of included studies.

Indoxyl sulfate (IxS) and p-cresyl sulfate (pCS) are toxic uremic compounds with documented pathological outcomes. This review critically and comprehensively analyzes the available liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry methods quantifying IxS and pCS in human matrices and the biological applications of these validated assays. Embase, Medline, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched until December 2023 to identify assays with complete analytical and validation data (N = 23). Subsequently, citation analysis with PubMed and Scopus was utilized to identify the biological applications for these assays (N = 45). The extraction methods, mobile phase compositions, chromatography, and ionization methods were evaluated with respect to overall assay performance (e.g., sensitivity, separation, interference). Most of the assays focused on human serum/plasma, utilizing acetonitrile or methanol (with ammonium acetate/formate or formic/acetic acid), liquid-liquid extraction, reverse phase (e.g., C18) chromatography, and gradient elution for analyte separation. Mass spectrometry conditions were also consistent in the identified papers, with negative electrospray ionization, select multiple reaction monitoring transitions and deuterated internal standards being the most common approaches. The validated biological applications indicated IxS and/or pCS were correlated with renal disease progression and cardiovascular outcomes, with limited data on central nervous system disorders. Methods for reducing IxS and/or pCS concentrations were also identified (e.g., drugs, natural products, diet, dialysis, transplantation) where inconsistent findings have been reported. The clinical monitoring of IxS and pCS is gaining significant interest, and this review will serve as a useful compendium for scientists and clinicians.

AIM: To quantify the economic burden associated with tobacco smoking among smokers aged 30-69 years, and second-hand smokers (SHS) aged 15-69 years in Jordan. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prevalence-based analysis was conducted in alignment with the Economics of Tobacco Toolkit developed by the WHO. The time-horizon of the analysis was one year (2019). Direct and indirect costs were estimated using data from the 2019 Global Burden of Diseases study. The analysis targeted the Jordanian population of smokers aged 30-69 years, and SHS aged 15-69 years. Adjustments were applied for age, gender, and smoking-related diseases. Direct costs were estimated using the smoking-attributable fraction (SAF) and national health expenditures. Indirect costs were divided into morbidity and mortality components. A discount rate of 3.0% and an annual productivity growth rate of 1.0% were assumed in modelling future economic losses. A sensitivity analysis was conducted on the lower and upper estimates of data used in this study. RESULTS: The cost of tobacco smoking and SHS exposure was estimated at US$2,108 million (95% confidence interval [CI] = US$2,003 million-US$2,245 million). This represents 4.7% (95%CI = 4.5%-5.0%) of national gross domestic product (GDP). Direct costs accounted for 3.1% of national GDP. Tobacco smoking accounted for 85.0% of total cost and SHS exposure accounted for 15.0% of total cost. Direct costs accounted for 67.0% of total cost, while indirect morbidity and mortality costs accounted for 9.0% and 24.0% of total cost, respectively. Non-communicable diseases accounted for 96.0% of total direct costs compared to communicable diseases (4.0% of total direct costs). CONCLUSIONS: Smoking cessation interventions such as raising taxes on cigarettes, protecting people from tobacco smoke, warning labels, plain packaging, and bans on advertising, are crucial for controlling national expenditures for treating smoking-related diseases and for averting future economic losses.


In this work, we aimed to calculate the annual economic impact of tobacco smoking in Jordan in 2019. We used the World Health Organization toolkit methodology to estimate both the direct and indirect costs associated with smoking nationally. Our focus was on Jordanian smokers aged 30-69 years and people exposed to second-hand smoke aged 15­69 years. Direct costs were calculated using epidemiological data on the proportion of health expenditures attributable to smoking and the national health expenditures. Indirect costs were divided into two components: morbidity and mortality. We also projected future economic losses, assuming a 3.0% discount rate and a 1.0% annual growth rate of productivity. Our study estimated that the cost of smoking and exposure to second-hand smoke was US$2,108 million (US$2,003 million-US$2,245 million), which accounted for 4.7% (4.5%-5.0) of Jordan's gross domestic product. The majority of the cost (85.0%) was due to direct smoking, while 15.0% was due to exposure to second-hand smoke. Direct costs made up 67.0% of the total cost, while the costs related to morbidity and mortality accounted for 9.0% and 24.0% of the total cost, respectively. In conclusion, our study emphasized that tobacco smoking has a significant economic impact on Jordan. Therefore, it is crucial to implement effective smoking cessation programs, such as enforcing existing anti-tobacco policies and raising taxes. These measures can help control national expenditures for treating smoking-related diseases and prevent future economic losses.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of musculoskeletal (MS) disorders in practicing German dentists and identify risk factors for pain chronification. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional, quantitative, questionnaire-based study in which the validated German version of the Örebro Musculoskeletal Pain Questionnaire was sent out to practicing German dentists. RESULTS: Of the 8,072 questionnaires sent out, 576 dentists responded (60.2% men, 39.8% women; mean [SD] age, 50 [10.1] years; response rate, 7.1%). Overall, 344 dentists had current pain at 719 pain sites (point prevalence, 59.7%). The risk of chronic pain in dentists with current MS pain was high in 28.5% (n = 98), moderate in 30.5% (n = 105), and low in 41% (n = 141). The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that specialization in restorative dentistry was associated with a significantly higher risk of experiencing pain chronification (odds ratio [OR], 3.94; P = .008), followed by specialization in pediatric dentistry (OR, 0.35; P = .048). A history of current pain, particularly current leg pain, was predictive of higher chronification risk (OR, 22.0; P < .001) and neck pain (OR, 4.51; P = .001). CONCLUSIONS: Almost two-thirds of practicing German dentists have MS pain, and one-third of these have a moderate through high risk of developing pain chronification. These health problems have an adverse impact on their ability to successfully perform dental services, with the potential for prolonged sick leave, disability, and early retirement. Accordingly, these problems deserve greater attention from the scientific community (identification of risk factors), universities (sensitization and education), and policy makers (development and implementation of appropriate countermeasures for MS disorders in the dental profession). PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: Knowing the risk factors associated with acute and chronic MS pain may help dentists take preventive measures and thereby improve their physical well-being and work-related quality of life.

Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent, debilitating joint condition primarily affecting the elderly. This investigation aims to develop an electromyography (EMG)-based method for diagnosing knee pathologies. EMG signals of the muscles surrounding the knee joint were examined and recorded. The principal components of the proposed method were preprocessing, high-order spectral analysis (HOSA), and diagnosis/recognition through deep learning. EMG signals from individuals with normal and OA knees while walking were extracted from a publicly available database. This examination focused on the quadriceps femoris, the medial gastrocnemius, the rectus femoris, the semitendinosus, and the vastus medialis. Filtration and rectification were utilized beforehand to eradicate noise and smooth EMG signals. Signals' higher-order spectra were analyzed with HOSA to obtain information about nonlinear interactions and phase coupling. Initially, the bicoherence representation of EMG signals was devised. The resulting images were fed into a deep-learning system for identification and analysis. A deep learning algorithm using adapted ResNet101 CNN model examined the images to determine whether the EMG signals were conventional or indicative of knee osteoarthritis. The validated test results demonstrated high accuracy and robust metrics, indicating that the proposed method is effective. The medial gastrocnemius (MG) muscle was able to distinguish Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) patients from normal with 96.3±1.7% accuracy and 0.994±0.008 AUC. MG has the highest prediction accuracy of KOA and can be used as the muscle of interest in future analysis. Despite the proposed method's superiority, some limitations still require special consideration and will be addressed in future research.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare and assess the stress distribution and failure possibility of endodontically treated central incisor protected with endocrowns with different heights, with various CAD-CAM blocks such as IPS e.max CAD, Katana Zirconia, and Zolid Fx Zirconia. Materials and Methods: A root canal-treated central incisor (plastic model) restored with an endocrown was scanned with a laser scanner to prepare a control model with a CAD software and then transferred to an FEA software. Proposed crown heights were 2, 4, and 6 mm. The model that was duplicated and restored with CAD-CAM blocks, IPS e.max CAD, Katana Zirconia, and Zolid Fx Zirconia were tested as endocrown materials. Bone geometry was simplified to be two coaxial cylinders in all models. Stress distributions under 50 N axial and oblique (with 135° angle from the vertical plane) loading were analyzed. Each model was then subjected to two occlusal loading conditions-the lingual slope of the incisal edge and the junction between incisal and middle thirds. Eighteen runs and calculations were performed to determine the endocrown height and material effect. Results: The results showed a minor or negligible effect of changing the endocrown material. Increasing endocrown height was shown to reduce stresses and deformations on most of the model components (bone, gutta-percha, periodontal ligament, and endocrown), except root and cement. Differences in deformations and stresses between the two models of 4 and 6 mm were relatively smaller (ranged between 1% and 30%) compared to those between the 2 and 4 mm models (ranged between 10% and 400%). Conclusions: The material used to fabricate endocrowns did not show considerable effect on the underlying structures. However, the endocrown design (2, 4, and 6 mm height) was shown to affect all components of the studied systems. Increasing endocrown height is recommended for bone, periodontal ligaments, and endocrown body, as it reduces stresses and deformations. On the other hand, it dramatically increases stresses on the root and cement layer. Smaller endocrown sizes represent an acceptable treatment option when there is a healthy periodontal state, while using larger sizes will be more suitable when there is a periodontal compromise with bone loss.

BACKGROUND: Vertebral augmentation including vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty may restore function without interfering with the therapeutic regimen of patients with multiple myeloma. We sought to evaluate the effects of adding multilevel vertebral augmentation to conventional therapy protocols for patients with multiple myeloma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-four patients recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma were randomly assigned to two groups. One group received multilevel vertebral augmentation (kyphoplasty or vertebroplasty) in addition to conventional therapy (MVA), and the other group received conventional therapy alone (CTA). Patients were evaluated before treatment and at 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, 4 years, and 5 years after treatment by using the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), the Stanford Score (SS), and the Spinal Instability Neoplastic Score (SINS). RESULTS: The mean ODI, SS, and SINS were nearly equal before treatment, being 34.19 (68.38%), 4.58, and 12.30, respectively, for the MVA group and 32.29 (64.58%), 4.63, and 13.88, respectively, for the CTA group. There were significant differences in the ODI, SS, and SINS between the two groups at all follow-up intervals. The ODI and SINS were statistically significantly different between the two groups (P=.020 and P<.001, respectively). There was an insignificant difference in SS between the two groups. CONCLUSION: This study found that performing kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty in addition to conventional therapy for patients with multiple myeloma resulted in enhanced morbidity and functional outcomes. The purpose of this study was to measure and compare renal pelvic pressure (RPP) between prone and supine percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) in a benchtop model. Six identical silicone kidney models were placed into anatomically correct prone or supine torsos constructed from patient CT scans in the corresponding positions. A 30-Fr renal access sheath was placed in either the upper, middle, or lower pole calyx for both prone and supine positions. Two 9-mm BegoStones were placed in the respective calyx and RPPs were measured at baseline, irrigating with a rigid nephroscope, and irrigating with a flexible nephroscope. Five trials were conducted for each access in both prone and supine positions. The average baseline RPP in the prone position was significantly higher than the supine position (9.1 vs 2.7 mmHg; p < 0.001). Similarly, the average RPP in prone was significantly higher than supine when using both the rigid and flexible nephroscopes. When comparing RPPs for upper, middle, and lower pole access sites, there was no significant difference in pressures in either prone or supine positions (p > 0.05 for all). Overall, when combining all pressures at baseline and with irrigation, with all access sites and types of scopes, the mean RPP was significantly higher in the prone position compared to the supine position (14.0 vs 3.2 mmHg; p < 0.001). RPPs were significantly higher in the prone position compared to the supine position in all conditions tested. These differences in RPPs between prone and supine PCNL could in part explain the different clinical outcomes, including postoperative fever and stone-free rates.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the coping strategies of caregivers of children who have survived paediatric cancer in Jordan. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study used a cross-sectional survey design and convenient sampling. The sample included 102 caregivers of children who have survived cancer, and outcome measures included the Arabic-translated Brief COPE, and caregiver and child demographic and condition questionnaire. Data analyses included descriptive statistics, analysis of frequencies, Spearman-rank order correlations and linear regression. RESULTS: Caregivers most frequently used religion coping (mean=6.42, SD=1.85), followed by acceptance (mean=5.95, SD=1.96) and planning (mean=5.05, SD=1.94). The least used coping strategies were humour (mean=2.98, SD=1.24) and behavioural disengagement as coping strategies (mean=3.01, SD=1.42). Having a female child predicted more self-distraction utilisation (ß=0.265, p=0.007). CONCLUSION: Caregivers of children who have survived cancer in Jordan frequently use passive coping strategies like religion and acceptance coping to overcome daily life stressors. Caregivers might benefit from psychosocial occupational therapy interventions to support their engagement in more active or problem-focused coping strategies.

Helminth-derived proteins have immunomodulatory properties, influencing the host's immune response as an adaptive strategy for helminth survival. Helminth-derived proteins modulate the immune response by inducing anti-inflammatory cytokines, promoting regulatory T-cell development, and ultimately favouring a Th2-biased immune response. This systematic review focused on helminth-derived proteins and explored their impact on reducing inflammatory responses in mouse models of colitis. A systematic search across Medline, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library identified fourteen relevant studies. These studies reported immunomodulatory changes, including increased production of anti-inflammatory cells and cytokines. In mouse models of colitis treated with on helminth-derived proteins, significant improvements in pathological parameters such as body weight, colon length, and microscopic inflammatory scores were observed compared to control groups. Moreover, helminth-derived proteins can enhance the function of Tregs and alleviate the severity of inflammatory conditions. The findings underscore the pivotal role of helminth-derived proteins in immunomodulation, specifically in the axis of cytokine secretion and immune cell polarization. The findings offer new opportunities for treating chronic inflammatory conditions such Crohn's disease.

A new series of 4-nitroimidazole bearing aryl piperazines 7-16, tetrazole 17 and 1,3,4-thiadiazole 18 derivatives was synthesized. All derivatives were screened for their anticancer activity against eight diverse human cancer cell lines (Capan-1, HCT-116, LN229, NCI-H460, DND-41, HL-60, K562, and Z138). Compound 17 proved the most potent compound of the series inhibiting proliferation of most of the selected human cancer cell lines with IC50 values in the low micromolar range. In addition, compound 11 exhibited IC50 values ranging 8.60-64.0 µM against a selection of cancer cell lines. These findings suggest that derivative 17 can potentially be a new lead compound for further development of novel antiproliferative agents. Additionally, 17-18 were assessed for their antibacterial and antituberculosis activity. Derivatives 17 and 18 were the most potent compounds of this series against both Staphylococcus aureus strain Wichita and a methicillin resistant strain of S. aureus (MRSA), as well as against Mycobacterium tuberculosis strain mc26230. The antiviral activity of 7-18 was also evaluated against diverse viruses, but no activity was detected. The docking study of compound 17 with putative protein targets in acute myeloid leukemia had been studied. Furthermore, the molecular dynamics simulation of 17 and 18 had been investigated.
