Amid a global aging trend, particularly notable in the U.S., there is a growing focus on achieving enhanced longevity and well-being. We evaluated the association between lifestyle factors (sleep, diet, and healthy lifestyle index) and COVID-19 infection in an older adult population in San Bernardino and Riverside counties in Southern California, the United States. A sample of 380 older adults ≥75 years old were surveyed cross-sectionally and self-reported lifestyle behaviors and COVID-19 infection. The results revealed that half the participants reported COVID-19 infection. Participants who slept less than 7 hours or more than 8 hours/night had higher odds of COVID-19 infection than those who slept 7-8 hours/night (OR = 1.62, 95% CI: 1.03, 2.55). Healthy lifestyle behaviors were significantly associated with reduced COVID-19 infection (OR = 0.61, 95% CI: 0.40, 0.92). In conclusion, adequate sleep and healthy lifestyle behaviors may be protective against COVID-19 infection among older adults and should be investigated further.

A key component of decreasing severe disease, hospitalizations, and death due to COVID-19 has been increasing vaccine accessibility to residents in communities where access to health care is poor and residents are at increased risk of poor health outcomes. Driven by the expansive geography and diverse population it serves, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health built an extensive school vaccination network by partnering with the county's roughly 3000 schools and vaccine providers. We report on the process of building this network and its impact on vaccination coverage. We describe a unique equity metric (HPI+) that used a combination of the Healthy Places Index (HPI) and COVID-19 transmission and vaccination data to prioritize school-located vaccination efforts. More than 328 991 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were administered at 1050 schools in Los Angeles County from April 15, 2021, through June 18, 2022. Nearly 10% of all doses administered to children aged 5-11 years in Los Angeles County were at school-located vaccine clinics. Most vaccine clinic days (77.3%) were held at schools in HPI+ zip codes. Most doses (68.3%) were administered in HPI+ regions and to people aged ≥12 years (70.3%). Vaccinating the community at schools is an effective public health intervention; however, increased outreach efforts were required in HPI+ regions to ensure equitable access to vaccines. This case study can be used to replicate public health interventions using schools to support access to health care services for students and the surrounding community.

Introduction: Gluten is the combination of gliadin and glutenin within a fraction of wheat. Its fraction is used in food because of its unique structure-building attributes. The gluten in wheat flour forms a three-dimensional protein network when mixed and hydrated properly. Even those with-out a diagnosis of an illness linked to gluten are beginning to follow a GFD. Methodology: This study aimed to examine the knowledge and use of the gluten-free diet among the general population of Saudi Arabia. This cross-sectional study included participants 18 years and older. Frequencies and percentages were used for descriptive data. Results: A total of 793 were included in the study. Morethan half of the participants knew what gluten and gluten-free diet are. Females demonstrated a greater awareness of gluten-free diet and their use (%). Other questions on the prevalence of gluten-free diet use showed that 5% follow itrigorously, while 10.3% follow it with lapses. Conclusion: The majority of the respondents were aware ofthe gluten diet; mostly, the gluten-free diet was followed due to health-related lifestyles. Future research on a broader scale in SA is highly needed to better understand the Saudi population (AU)

Introduction: Dietary habits in Saudi Arabia have been shifting toward the Western diet, which is high in fat, salt, and sugar, leading to a high obesity rate. Different dietary strategies such as the Ketogenic Diet (KD), Intermittent Fasting (IF), Gluten Free Diet (GFD), and Calorie Restriction Diet (CRD) have shown an influential role in weight loss. This study aimed to compare trending diets and correlate different types of diet with obesity and lifestyle among adults in Saudi Arabia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed on Saudis and non-Saudis over 18 years old. We used convenience sampling, an online questionnaire distributed via social media channels, including WhatsApp, LinkedIn, and Twitter. SPSS 28 software was applied for data analysis. The chi-square test was used to determine associations between different variables. Statistical significance was considered at a value of p less than 0.05. Results: Most participants were females residing in the Eastern and Central regions of Saudi Arabia. Although most do not follow any dietary plan, they exhibited acceptable exercise and lifestyle. The minority of the study population followed different types of diet plans, such as KD, IF, and GFD. The purpose of most of the participants who have used these strategies was for weight loss but failed to sustain the dietary plan for more than 1 month. Conclusion: Obesity remains a challenging issue in Saudi Arabia. Adherence to dietary regimes could help in controlling obesity. Increasing the awareness of the benefits of each dietary plan for health, choosing the appropriate one, and sustaining a balanced nutrition pattern.
