The work presents an analysis of condition severity of 139 casualties with isolated and combined spleen injuries on admission to a surgical hospital. The assessment of condition severity was made using the traditional gradation and score scale VPH-SP. The degree of the severity of combined trauma of the spleen was determined by the scales ISS. The investigation showed that the scale ISS and VPH-SP allowed objective measurement of the condition severity of patients with spleen trauma. The score assessment facilitated early detection of the severe category of the patients, determined the diagnostic algorithm and the well-timed medical aid.

Results of the surgical treatment of 96 patients with isolated blunt spleen trauma and 43 patients with intraoperative spleen injury were analyzed. Acute postoperative pancreatitis developed in 20 patients (14,4%). Interdependence between the type and extent of the operative spleen treatment and pancreatitis frequency was registered. Of 93 splenectomized patients 18 (19,4%) developed postoperative pancreatitis, and of 46 patients, who had an organ-preserving operation, pancreatitis was registered in only 2 cases (4,3%). Thus, spleen-preserving operations allow to decrease the frequency of postoperative pancreatitis. Method of the reversible spleen mobilization increases the possibilities of the organ-preserving treatment in case of hard-to-reach ruptures.

A comparative analysis of certain hematological indices was made in 50 children with traumatic injuries of the spleen. Splenectomy was fulfilled in 29 patients, organ-sparing treatment in 21 patients. There were no lethal outcomes. Five children during laparotomy were found to have an accessory spleen. In 7 (24.1%) patients there was thrombocytosis from 3-6 days after splenectomy, coming to its maximum in 10-12 days. After organ-sparing treatment and in children with an accessory spleen after splenectomy no thrombocytosis was observed in the postoperative period.

Hygienic aspects and ecologic problems arising due to the development of biotechnology are shown in the article. Necessity to work up the theory of the relationship between biological agents, the human body and ecological situation in different regions is also demonstrated. Principal directions of hygienic investigations are determined.

The contributors present a generalized description of the labour conditions' hygienic assessment and state of health of the communication service technicians and weather forecasters engaged in the State meteorology service centres in the northern and southern regions of the country. The unfavourable labour conditions' impact on the health state is revealed depending on the specificity of the weather-chart makers' working conditions, which lead to morbidity with temporary disability and occupational skin and upper respiratory tract diseases. A complex of tested measures is proposed for the improvement of the working conditions in question.

The influence of different levels of noise and vibration on the content of GABA and glutamic acid in the brain and on behavioural characteristics of rats have been studied on 60 white rats under voyage conditions. A correlation is determined between biochemical and physiological reactions of the central nervous system in animals and duration and level of the influence of the studied factors.
