RESUMO

Neurilemmomas are relatively rare tumors derived from Schwann cells that may occur at any part of the body. Many are encapsulated and they are more frequently encountered in adults. A neurilemmoma of the hypoglossal cervical nerve, an unusual site, is reported. Submaxillary angioma was initially suspected.

RESUMO

Benign positional paroxysmal vertigo is a common disease which may be caused by abnormal movement of utricular debris in the posterior semicircular canal. It is diagnosed by the Dix-Hallpike positional maneuver eliciting vertigo and nystagmus. Treatment generally consists of physical exercises with the Epley or Semont maneuvers. We review 43 consecutive patients diagnosed as BPPV in the last year and treated with physical therapy (Epley maneuvers). Results were very good, with a cure rate of 88.37% (53.5% after a single maneuver). Physical therapy is an effective treatment for BPPV.

Crouzon's syndrome is a chapter of the craneosynostosis, congenital diseases characterized for the precocious closure of cranial sutures. It represents an autosomal dominant heredity. Recently has been find out that the mutation lies in the short arm of chromosome 10, which causes the alteration of type 2 receptor of growth factor of fibroblasts (FRFG2). Clinically together with the cranial deformities appear frequently malformations in ENT-sphere, but only in 3 percent of all cases has been observed otic changes. We present the case of a young girl of 16, bearing a Crouzon's syndrome, coming to our office because of bilateral hypacusis. Clinical examination and complementary tests showed bilateral atresia of both auditive meatus lack of mastoid pneumatization, anomalous facial route and heavy bilateral transmissive hearing impairment, together with septum nasi deflection and hypoplasy of paranasal sinuses.

RESUMO

Granular cell tumor is an unusual growth of probably neuroectodermal histogenesis, first reported by Abrikossoff in 1926 with the name of myoblastoma. Of the about 1200 cases reported since, the 50 percent were found in the head and neck. Of second mentioned 10 percent had a laryngeal sitting. A case of glottic granular cell tumor surgically removed with free borders is presented. Bibliographical review.
